John McCain on big money influence: "It taints me."

A old gem from "Nightline" calling out John McCain's hypocrisy when it comes to positioning himself as a corruption-fighter.

I believe there have been times where I have probably been influenced because the big donor had - buys access to my office, and we know that access is influence. And honestly, that taints us all. It taints me.

Sometimes I feel I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
From the pain that you drive into the heart of me
The love we share
Seems to go nowhere
And I've lost my light
For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night

Once I ran to you, (Iran)
Now I'll run from you
This tainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Oh...tainted love
Tainted love

All Republicans AND Democrats are bought and sold. Obama may be a better choice than McCain but don't put on any rose-colored glasses here. Until we get rid of the lobbyists it won't make a significant difference who gets elected.

And let's not forget who worked for Paxson -- Vicki Iseman. She's the one McCain's staff was so worried about re: an affair w/McCain.

Tainted for sure. A real moldy oldy.

replace taint with corrupt to get the real feel

respectible. yet damning. he pretty much says--for which i give him credit--that he is for sale and that he has been bought.

C'mon guys, Johnnie boy was just a little naive when he ask the investigators to back down on good ole Chuck. Things turned out all right in the end. Chuck and his gang got his, Johnnie boy got a slap on the wrist. It's not like Johnnie didn't learn his lesson, he's stayed away from lobbyist ever since. I heard he won't have one within ten miles of his location.

/sarcasm

Can you imagine if Sen. Obama had a past like this? The media would be having vapors they would be so freakin' appalled.

It taints them all.

The solution is to disband both parties and start new ones.

Lobbyists banned and corporate can contact like we the people.

Typical crooked repub. The crime they bitch the most and loudest about is the one they are guilty of committing.

When will call a spade a spade? This isn't about anything other than plain old BRIBERY!

'Lobbyist'- "Senator, here's $50,000 dollars from RJ Reynolds. Keep them in mind when that big vote comes up."

Senator - "Thanks, I'll certainly give them my full consideration", as he sees visions of the new car/boat/mistress/prostitute...

It's a disgusting charade and should be stopped.

Republicans, the party of taints and smears.

When he smiles and says that he did something wrong, it reminds me of when bush smiles after he's just put his foot down about something. It's one of those, What are ya gonna do about it?, smiles.

DaveTheAngryRhodeIslander@25

it sure is!

and, since it is done by both sides of the 'aisle', it will be the norm until the people take a stand against it, and refuse to allow the subversion of democracy to continue.

in other words, it is not going to change.

also: when hillary came out defending this subversion, i--even already distrusting hillary--was shocked that she would have the cajones.

I think he's referring to Captain Hooks stupid, yet lovable, sidekick from the Disney cartoon Peter Pan.

Can you imagine if Sen. Obama had a past like this? The media would be having vapors they would be so freakin' appalled.

Actually, he does, as well as a present. According to files held by the Centre for Responsible Politics, the top five contributors to the Obama campaign are registered corporate lobbyists. In addition, Obama is backed by many of the very big names in Wall Street, such as Goldman Sachs, UBS AG, Lehman Bros., J P Morgan Chase, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, etc. Curious how SilentPatriot managed to avoid mentioning Obama's corporate connections alongside McCain's confession that "access is influence." As Congressman Dennis Kucinich has correctly noted, voting for the lesser of two evils does not negate the fact that one has voted for an evil. Liberals would be wise to look behind Obama's veneer of charisma and smooth talk and realize that he feeds from the same corporate trough as does his Republican counterpart.

Yeah, and Mr. Obama eats baby kittens too.

you nailed it

Top 5 Contributors
Goldman Sachs: $658,430
University of California: $495,159
JPMorgan Chase & Co: $423,107
Citigroup Inc: $393,904
UBS AG: $377,600

obama is the change candidate

with the heavy influx of financial "service" firms, it is no doubt that obama really is a (so called) "free" market type of guy.

yeah status quo!!!!

John's picture

It's true, Obama feeds from the same trough. But you could argue it's a matter of political necessity. It's easier to service 5 or 10 wealthy donors, than it is to serve 10 million small donors.

Samson

Intelligently and articulately stated. The facts, as we both noted, demonstrate how Obama has been tainted by Wall Street. But to so many liberals, Obama practically walks on water and will most likely never acknowledge that he, like McCain, will deal with anyone in order to attain that coveted position of power.

Erroll@39 (my 'quote this' button appears to be missing)

thank you, and right back 'atcha

a lot of people i really like and respect have hitched their wagons to the obama train... as long as they know he is not a liberal, and will govern more like a clinton than, say, a real agent of change they shouldn't be too surprised by what they get from a obama administration.

people talk about this 'change' all the time. i think my idea of change varies greatly than that of obama supporters. or, if not, they should do more homework.

Once again, a YouTube video that hurts McCain has been pulled. Coincidence? The McCainyites work overtimeto get these videos pulled.

pretty misleading title. if you said used the quote 'it taints us all' (which is a more accurate summary of his comment, isn't it?) it wouldn't be nearly as salacious would it?

don't you guys complain about 'gotcha politics' all the time? is this any different than an article that says 'harry reid - iraq is lost' or 'john kerry - if you don't study hard, you get stuck in iraq'
