Mike's Blog Roundup
All Spin Zone: America, 2008. Just like any other authoritarian regime.
Foolocracy: C&L contributor, Blue Gal, tipped me to this along with the observation:"Your typical Republican candidate. Way old and can't seem to keep it in his pants. Admits he wasn't good to his seven kids or three wives, but endorses tougher divorce standards."
The Carpetbagger Report: Fox News or Crime Family extortionists? What's the G.D. difference?

iCrew: A new site where creative people help each other out. Writers, filmakers, musicians, craftsmakers, and anyone else who'd like to use "the wisdom of crowds" to do things better, faster, and more participatively should find iCrew an exciting and useful resource.
Our friend Tammy Booth, better known as Blue Girl, Red State, has won a scholarship to the Netroots Nation bloggers convention that is being held in Austin later this month. She's trying to raise some money toward the train ticket and living expenses while in Texas. Times are tough, but kick in a few bucks if you can via Paypal over at her site.
Blue Girl, Red State
Wouldn't that be: Blue Girl, Red Missouri?

Howard Wolfson, who was a top strategist for the presidential campaign of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, is going where some Democrats were unwilling to go during the early days of the election season: the Fox News Channel.

By the way, where is the coverage of John McCain's Gambling Problem?
[...]
In the past decade, [McCain] has played on Mississippi riverboats, on Indian land, in Caribbean craps pits and along the length of the Las Vegas Strip. Back in 2005 he joined a group of journalists at a magazine-industry conference in Puerto Rico, offering betting strategy on request. "Enjoying craps opens up a window on a central thread constant in John's life," says John Weaver, McCain's former chief strategist, who followed him to many a casino. "Taking a chance, playing against the odds." Aides say McCain tends to play for a few thousand dollars at a time and avoids taking markers, or loans, from the casinos, which he has helped regulate in Congress. "He never, ever plays on the house," says Mark Salter, a McCain adviser. The goal, say several people familiar with his habit, is never financial. He loves the thrill of winning and the camaraderie at the table.

I'll we'll have to wait for Obama to have a gambling problem before the reich-wing MSM will cover this issue.

Arrest Karl Rove
The House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed Karl Rove to testify on July 10, but on July 1 Rove announced he would defy the subpoena.
Could you or I get away with defying a Congressional subpoena? Of course not. So why can Karl Rove? Like George Bush and Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, believes he is simply above the law.
It’s time for Congress to prove them wrong by using its power of “inherent contempt” to send the Sergeant-at-Arms to arrest Karl Rove (as imagined in photoshop at left) and bring him before the full House to answer to the charge of Contempt of Congress, and to punish him to the maximum extent allowed by law, including prison.
Before Democrats won Congress in 2006, Nancy Pelosi said the most important reason to put Democrats in control of Congress was “subpoena power.” But now Pelosi is quietly blocking the use of inherent contempt.
Tell your Representatives to Arrest Karl Rove:

Waxman is threatening Mukasey with contempt if he doesn’t hand over the Cheney interview report. Fitzgerald says he made no deals with Cheney and Bush about their testimony.

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe should soften his tone when dealing with the Marxist FARC guerrillas, freed hostage Ingrid Betancourt said on Monday, urging him to break with the language of "hatred". Hmmm, sounds a bit like Obama. 7/8

I've already farted.
That's more than any Dem will do.
Pelosi won't allow it.
Reid will stick his chin out so they can punch it more easily.

Timing IS everything, isn't it?
So much crap, so little time. So lets start here first
GOP looks to redistrict itself back into power.
OK, what can we say here? They can't win fair, they can't win dirty, so now they're gonna cheat.
And how much redistricting are they gonna do? Are they gonna take a Blue state like Ohio, and break it down like this?
Cleveland- 1 rep
C Street in Cleveland where 5 republicans live- 2 reps
Cincinnati- 1 rep
The suburbs west of Cincinnati where a lot of Republicans live- 5 reps
Columbus-1 rep
East Columbus nursing home where there are 30 republicans- 15 reps.
Democratic leaning towns- 1 rep for every 3 towns
Republican leaning towns- 8 reps for every 1 town
Yup...that's the plan- shrink the number of reps representing liberal/moderate leaning areas and maximize the number of reps in areas that trend Republican. But hey, that's fair, right? It's perfectly legal in football for the team on offense to pick up the goalposts and move the end zone to 5 yards in front of the line of scrimmage before the play.
Gerrymandering has been used extensively in the south (GA).
katy @ 6:
figures.
a failure working for a failure. fits nicely.
Dr. Hussein Matt @ 14:
Looks like the Veracifier's (TPMtv) and other exposé type videos are still in tact on youtube.
I could care less about seeing that POS on youtube. I prefer them in an exposé-type video with a commentary rather than a video from a Hagee supporter...believe it or not, those f*ckers exist.
It seems as though, despite his misprioratized "NFL-spygate" obsession, that Specter has a spine. Rockefeller, on the other hand, needs to be ousted.

...nevermind. I just read Glenn Greenwald's article, Specter is only looking to "suspend" immunity; screw him then.

The Benen piece is especially interesting.
Actually the reality is Obama is going to have to face the day when he has to tell Americans,
The previous "release" of the American Dream software is obsolete, and the new version will require a whole lot more of them in the way of earnest effort, delayed gratification, and revised expectations.
Turning a Blind Eye on the Nuclear Black Market
Joe Trento and David Armstrong are the authors of the book “America and the Islamic Bomb: The Deadly Compromise.”
They argue that the United States and other Western governments “consistently turned a blind eye” to Pakistan’s “developing and then exporting nuclear technology throughout the 80’s, 90’s and even after 9/11.
