You need Uncle Sam, Iraq told

Instead of moving toward accommodating the demand of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki for a timetable for United States military withdrawal, the George W Bush administration and the US military leadership are continuing to pressure their erstwhile client regime to bow to the US demand for a long-term military presence in the country.

The emergence of this defiant US posture toward the Iraqi withdrawal demand underlines just how important long-term access to military bases in Iraq has become to the US military and national security bureaucracy in general.

Is that Mitt Romney on the left?

Ironic story of the week:

McCain was scheduled to hold a press conference off the coast of Louisiana on a oil platform concerning how much safer the oil industry has become and it was canceled due to an oil spill that shut down the Mississippi River for 2 days

---------------
First ships crawl down Mississippi after spill

The first of 200 ships idled by a massive oil spill began crawling down the Mississippi River Friday after the Coast Guard reopened the waterway to traffic, but it could be days before all of the ships are cleared.

A 100-mile stretch of the river has been shut down since Wednesday, when a barge split open in a collision with the Liberian-flagged tanker Tintomara. Roughly 419,000 gallons spilled into the fast-flowing waterway to commerce, and crews have sopped up about 11,000 — just a fraction of what the barge was carrying.

Why do republicans hate poor people?

Senate Republicans block heating aid bill

WASHINGTON - Republicans on Saturday blocked the Senate from considering a bill next week that would nearly double federal aid to help the poor pay heating and air-conditioning bills.

Although a dozen Senate Republicans support the measure, most voted with GOP leaders who would rather spend the time trumpeting their call to expand offshore oil drilling before Congress takes six weeks off for vacation and the presidential nominating conventions.

Because they typically do not send them campaign contributions.

Simple. These self centered sociopaths don't care for anything that does not personally benefit them. The Retardlicans remind me of the Roman Senate in the movie History of the World jumping up and shouting "F---k the poor!"

Subject: Report of Rove threats against witness Michael Connell

Dear Attorney General Mukasey:

We have been confidentially informed by a source we believe to be credible that Karl Rove has threatened Michael Connell, a principal witness we have identified in our King Lincoln case in federal court in Columbus, Ohio, that if he does not agree to "take the fall" for election fraud in Ohio, his wife Heather will be prosecuted for supposed lobby law violations. This appears to be in response to our designation of Rove as the principal perpetrator in the Ohio Corrupt Practices Act/RICO claim with respect to which we issued document hold notices last Thursday to you and to the US Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform. See: http://www.bradblog.com/?p=6189 and http://www.archive.org/d...tionFraudInOhioCourtCase.

I have informed court chambers and am in the process of informing the Ohio Attorney General's and US Attorney's offices in Columbus for the purpose, among other things, of seeking protection for Mr. Connell and his family from this reported attempt to intimidate a witness.

Concurrently herewith, I am informing Mr. Conyers and Mr. Kucinich in connection with their Congressional oversight responsibilities related to these matters.

Because of the serious engagement in this matter that began in 2000 of the Ohio Statehouse Press Corps, 60 Minutes, the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, C-Span and Jim VandeHei, and the public's right to know of gross attempts to subvert the rule of law, I am forwarding this information to them, as well.

All empires produce the men who destroy it from within in their lust for unlimited power. In conquering the world, they include the populations of their own countries. Everyone is an enemy or a potential enemy.

Therefore no empathy, but mostly, they are dissociative and do not connect with others in any real sense, making empathy impossible.

Feds Seize Two More Banks
will they get part of the $300billion?

I think so. I don't really understand what's happening here with the government arranged bail out/purchases of these failing banks. Does Mutual of Omaha use their own money to purchase these two banks, or is it this $300 billion fund they are using to buy them? And this is very complex from an accounting aspect. These two banks being purchased have large capital/note assets, but also large amounts of liabilities. What happens to the liabilities such as bad loans debt? Is it erased? Does the FDIC or other federal entities pick up or back the bad loans? And I'm also wondering how they're going to handle all the actual houses they'll foreclose on if it's increasingly difficult to obtain a mortgage? Will they just keep the houses? The whole thing is insane and there is little to no information being dispensed to the public (as usual by the corporate media).

I think we have no idea about the entire scope of these issues or the number of failing banks involved or the assets involved or what will occur in the secondary mortgage market (drives the entire mortgage industry and is in complete and total implosion/meltdown) in the future.

you left out the big bonuses after the layoffs, but the point is clear.

Wall Street only paid out a mere THIRTY EIGHT BILLION DOLLARS in bonuses to its staff and itself in the fall of 2007.
less taxes paid on bonuses compared to high salarys.

It might be twice that number. There is no way to know and the CEO's of these companies have been lying their asses off about these debt write offs. Just like Bear Sterns CEO did. Alan Schwartz publicly stated that Bear was worth $80 per share break up value on the Friday before the Fed stepped in and arranged a buy out at $10/share. So what do you think is going to happen? Is this the pathway these insane criminals are using to usher in the North American Union and our new currency?

whenever boosh decides NOTTO VETO a bill, you can be sure it will do nothing at best for any human being. that's where he draws the line.

If there is no way to sell these warehoused/grouped mortgage securities, that means that the lenders can only have one loan. They have to liquidate the current loan to borrow more money from the Fed at the discount rate. The whole system collapses if the investment banks can't sell the securities. And with our currency so debt saturated, it's just one more financial pitfall after another.

Of course this will not affect the upper echelon of managers and friends of Arnie.
So many are going to just jump ship and leave for other jobs never to return, California will collapse.
But a shining example of Republican small government in action, finally they will have a showcase of it in action.

keep in mind that the mortgages are insured, so Insurance companies are on the hook too. so it ain't just going to be banks.

California is either going to have to raise the state income tax to cover the shortfall or go cap in hand to the Federal gov and beg for money.
The former will cause the rich and middle classes to scream in outrage and kick the Repugs out of office.
The latter will effectively hand over the government and the power to DC, leaving California a chattel powerless state.

The use of wounded troops as a political football to damage Obama is beneath contempt and is a clear demonstration that McCain is not fit to lead the country in terms of ethical behavior, judgment, temperament, honesty and integrity. Any politician who would stoop so low cannot be trusted with his hands on the reigns of power.

This smear is so callous, calculated and despicable that it is sure to backfire in the face of the Republican party. The American people have had more than enough of this kind of depravity from the Republican party.

John McCain is turning into Bob Dole right before our eyes. When he is shown on television, all he does is piss and moan about Barack. History is pretty telling how our electorate feels about whiny old farts.

I saw an article on yahoo news a few days ago about how the results of lobbyists in the food industry being so successful in getting monitoring standards watered down had led to an outbreak of food contaminations and poisonings. Probably as a PR move, they've agreed to stricter monitoring provided they have "an input" into the new system (which will probably still be less than what was wanted in the first place). I'd say they'd done enough.

The question is, is this appropriate for an article on C and L

Secondly, have you ever covered Joe Bageant's book "Deer Hunting with Jesus" which explains why the people most punished by the Republican Party still vote for them and what the Democrats are always up against (and have to learn to overcome). If it's never had a post, is it also worth one? I thought the reasons for why a lot of people vote Republican when you'd think they rationally shouldn't was eye opening and since the election's coming up, it's especially the sort of thing the Democrats have to counter.

I can tell you what is happening Charles. The current ruling party knows, that if much more crap happens economically, they may not be in power for years maybe decades, so they are repaying all their rich campaign contributors before the boat sinks. Apparently nobody told them that voters are so stupid that they actually made the last two elections close enough to Diebold and win, and the third one is actually a win/win situation for them no matter who the victor is. That's just what I see from north of the faux border.
