The Lobbyist Litmus Test
When asked how many lobbyists work at the McCain campaign, Rick Davis told Katie Couric: "we don't make it a litmus test for employment at the McCain campaign." But in May, after a series of reports about McCain's campaign being run by lobbyists, Davis wrote a memo outlining a new campaign policy that said: "No person working for the Campaign may be a registered lobbyist or foreign agent, or receive compensation for any such activity." (h/t Sam)
Confused yet?
TPM has more....

"How can you distinguish between a lobbyist for cancer and one for the oil companies."
If he means between lobbyists for big pharma and big oil, to the mccainites,
they're both a valuable source of campaign cash, so he makes perfect sense in gop-world.
But, if he means between lobbyists for cancer patients and big oil, then he is one twisted MF.
Too bad we can't just get rid of Lobby-persons altogether.
McCain = Bush
Except McCain has melanoma and has had lymph nodes removed.
Bush, on the other hand went for the whole enchilada and had a frontal lobotomy.
Nothing to be confused about. Davis is hedging because he's been caught in a lie.
Barrack latest ad hits back http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/30/barack-hits-back-ad-says_n_1159...
Jesus, it's like there's no good choices. Obama can't get the number of states in the Union or who liberated Auschwitz or the good idea not to insult poor people who might otherwise have considered voting for him right, and McPapen can't tell his Sunnis from his Shias, or that Iraq and Pakistan have Iran right smack in the freakin' middle, that Czechoslovakia doesn't exist anymore, or whether or not he allows lobbyists in his campaign. WTF? How'd these two become serious candidates again?
Ruthless People @ 6:
It helps if you can actually spell the guy's name: Barack Obama, not Barak or Barrack or anything else. Just grates on my nerves.
rick is a f#cking piece of shit.
what a lot of b s and hypocritical jacking off.
"I'm John McCain, and I approved this flip-flop."
Cut and splice - you can literally hear how the Couric interviews are horribly edited together. wtf happened to editing standards? That said, McShame's campaign is infested with these guys.
General_Rennenkampf @ 8:
thank you mr. perfect, we will be watching all your opinions for errors now.
no one on this list is error free including the site-monitors and up.
dadams @ 12:
Oh, I know I'm not perfect, and I make plenty of typos myself, but for God's sakes man, the guy's a Presidential candidate! People should at least spell the guy's name correctly!
dadams @ 12:
Imagine if I accidentally put an "s" where the "b" is in "Obama". General Anal would have freaked! Out!
Enjoy a little Brittney McCain http://youtube.com/watch?v=PPEV6twzxmE
Oh my, I misspelled Britney didn't I? Ooops I did it again!
uh..someone who lobbies "on behalf of cancer"??? i would say, if such a person existed, then i would pretty much equate them with someone who lobbies "on behalf of oil interests". lots of people die from cancer and lots of people die because of oil interest.
Borak Owbama is a pritty goood aurator.

Hopfully Owbama wil beet McSame an restour the rewl uf lawe.
Ruthless People @ 14:
Nah, I've seen Brittany spelled more ways than you can count. Nice attempt, no dice.
And yes, I would have freaked out if you put "Barack Osama," because that puts you in the Wingnut category.
wheeee @ 16:
I have a spell chequer,
it is perfect in every weigh,
it plainly marks for my revue,
mistakes I cannot sea,
is not my spelling grate,
you cannot deny it,
I laugh at ewe today.
General_Rennenkampf @ 13:
yes, you are right. however i wonder where in newspapers, magazines
the proof readers have gone. there is a world of spelling and grammatical
errors in everything. ever some of the books on the NY best seller list
are flawed through out. quality is marginal in our fast world.
General_Rennenkampf @ 17:
And you just saw Barrack spelled a different way. I happen to know a Barrack who spells his name this way.
General_Rennenkampf @ 17:
But Britney Spears doesn't spell her name any other way does she?
I have not been able to get firedoglake web site to open for me since just before the FISA vote int he senate. I read some one else had the same problem and that firedoglake had recently changed servers and that they had accidently blocked her. She emailed Jane Hamsher and they unblocked her. Can some one please go to firedoglake and get Jane's email address for me. I am having withdrawals.
Thank you,
sunshine
Ruthless People @ 20:
Except we're talking about a specific Barack running for a specific office. I hate it when wingnuts misspell his name on purpose, however, I get shits'n'giggles out of them criticizing a guy whose name comes from the Bible like he's some spawn of Satan. I laugh at stupidity, including my own all the time, though. If we were discussing a different Barack, that would be one thing. We're not.
dadams @ 19:
That's nothing, I saw a book from the Seventies that had a spelling mistake so obvious somebody scribbled in it and said "Hah!" This isn't new, unfortunately.
Ruthless People @ 21:
That's right. I only spell her name in that fashion when I refer to her. This is getting way OT, and we need to get back to discussing the McPapen hypocrisy and stupidity and how this damn stupid dipshit got to be a serious candidate of a major US Party.
that didn't last long, did it?
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 25:
Nope, it only takes a second for McPapen to say something stupid. Granted, Obama's done stupid things, too, but not at the rate McPapen's done it.
Apparently Davis doesn't know what litmus means. Either that or he's a lying sack of shit.
casper46 @ 27:
Both. Litmus tests are too scientific, republicans hate science. The truth has a well-known liberal bias, so the repuglicans hate that too.
The discussions of the problems with lobbyists was discussed to death, in depth. Hearings were held.
Nothing was fixed. It still remains an established, well known problem.
Confused, yes. Why conduct a litmus test unless you are trying to find the pH of a solution? Anyway, you can buy a pH meter for about $50--no need to dick around with litmus paper and color keys.
there is another simple test. Some think that if society in general improves that it will enhance their life. Than again there are others to whom unbridled greed is king.
of course, katie is not prepared with previous quote/footage. russert's hard work and integrity is sorely missed.
Seriously, I think these McCain folks (including McCain & Cindy) are trying to Lose.
Nobody whose been involved in politics this long, and all of the people around him
could be this stupid!!
dadams @ 12:
Hey! I am damnedly perfekt in everthinq I shpell, so ....

nevermind.
General_Rennenkampf @ 26:
I was actually referring to the pledge by the lobbyist running McC*nt's campaign that no lobbyist would be part of McKeatingFive's campaign. Since McCan'tHelpButBeCorrupt had 151 lobbyists on his campaign staff at the start, it made no sense as a promise.
needless to say, the SCLM defends the liar 'n thief.
“we don’t make it a litmus test for employment at the McCain campaign.”
Translation:
"You don't have to be a lobbyist to work for the campaign, but it helps."
He raises a good point, they are all lobbyists. However, he completely misses the fact, some lobby for profit, and some do so for causes which benefit society and/or the environment. That is a significant difference. He suggests the campaign cannot fully screen everyone. Well, a simple background check would probably work just fine.
Do you suppose there is a lobby group for Litmus Paper?
Huge mistake by McPain
Lobbyists are completely and utterly focused on getting things for their Korporate masters and could care less about the problems that causes for most Americans.
They remain focused on what's good for Korporate Amerika. This only makes them more disliked, because people have figured out that for the past two terms Bush has enriched himself and his Korporate cronies at the expense of our citizens, constitution and country.
With a campaign run by lobbyists their first loyalty will be to the same Korporations that have destroyed the American way of life.
McPain will lose in a landslide even if the Dems run a stuffed animal against him.
When asked how many lobbyists work at the McCain campaign, Rick Davis told Katie Couric: “we don’t make it a litmus test for employment at the McCain campaign.”
Correct answer: "I'm not sure, how many lobbyists are there?"
Lobbyists might make good litmus tests. We could dip them in giant beakers of acid all day long.
someone who lobbies on the behalf of cancer is called a tobacco lobbyist. The difference between many lobbyists is the number and money. Got to figure big oil (and big pharma) has more people working and spreading money in congress than pro-environment groups do.
All doublespeak.. keep blowing the smoke you lying effin liars.
Lobbies on behalf of cancer. LOL
