McCain tries to scrub his website: They called him A Political Celebrity
By John Amato Thursday Jul 31, 2008 11:00amWell, as Digby says---look what's been scrubbed from McCain's campaign website:
There had been no doubt that McCain would eventually become a full-fledged White House candidate, and he had been expected to make his candidacy official in the spring.
The 2006 midterm campaign had just ended when McCain took the first formal step toward a presidential run in November. He formed an exploratory committee and gave a speech casting himself as a "common-sense conservative" in the vein of Ronald Reagan who could lead the party back to dominance after a dreadful election season by returning to the GOP's core principles.
A political celebrity, McCain is considered a top contender for the nomination.
Hey, Rick Davis, I guess Obama isn't the only celebrity running for president.
That's from the google cache. The original article has been scrubbed.

Tivo and google caching is UNAMERICAN!
Guess who’s a celebrity
click over to the Internet Movie Database to see just how often John McCain has appeared on other TV talk shows since 2000, when he became nationally famous after his failed presidential bid:
Jay Leno: 10 times.
David Letterman: 8 times.
The Daily Show: 12 times (or 13?).
Conan O’Brien: 3 episodes.
Larry King Live: 9 times.
Saturday Night Live: twice.
Live with Regis and Kathie Lee (!):once
Entertainment Tonight (!!): twice.
The View: twice.
Tony Danza Show (!!!): once.
and the icing on the cake….
The man had a cameo in “The Wedding Crashers”! And in 2006, Senator McCain apparently appeared as an actor in an episode of “24″…
Now you can go look for a place where McCain used the word "bitter" or you can decide to stop hurting America. Your call.
I wonder how fast Ron Fournier will have the offending version wiped from AP's archives as well ...
Man...LMMFAO!!!
Poor McBain...the hits just keeeeep on comin for that poor bastard!
Love it!
Lets not forget Davis' previous client, a celebrity actor with no previous political experience Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Who will point the "celebrity" thing out to Rick Davis? He was so adament with Andrea that I almost cried for her.
its funny that people don't even have to make this stuff up.
on another note, I wish that we could get down to issues a little on this election. Of course, on the issues the republicans will get creamed, so i guess they'd rather just try to make fun of obama and hope the racist hordes vote white.
McCain's like Paris Hilton! Only dumber!
But is he popular?
Ruthless People @ 9:
Well, he probably wears underwear when he goes out in a skirt...
Add "celebrity" to the list of words that we will become sick of this year. Oh, how they will repeat it until the "base" is hypnotized.
Celebrity
Presumptuous
Arugula
Maverick (ok, that one got old about 5 years ago)
I suppose they'll be calling Google 'partisan' and 'librul' for not flushing the cache of their site and helping them cover their tracks.
Bonkers the Presumptuous Fist Jabber @ 12:
When I hear the word 'maverick' the first thing that comes to my mind is a bull. Kind of appropriate. mcsame=bull ...or at least the stuff that comes out of it's back end.
i am certain that MSM will spend the next 24 hours on non stop debate of the hypocricy of McSame's campaign calling Obama a celeb while his own site labels him one also.
I'm not a tech wizard who can do a full 30 second video motage but can somebody please do a counter-ad? Here's the idea.
Footage of McCain, footage of Sesamestreet's Big Bird and Beavis and Butthead.
woody, tokin librul @ 11:
Don't be too sure. Plus, if he thought he could nab a few more votes, he'd rethink his stance on wearing underwear with his skirts and look for a photo-op...
...say, this would probably be a bad time to mention "flip-flopping" wouldn't it?
haha! He got le caûght in le caçhe!
I knew it!
McSane is a Celebrity just like Gomer Pyle
Oh Golly
JTMinIA @ 3:
Are we talking about arugula again?
;)
"Stop hurting America". Hahaha, a trite phrase, indeed. I'll add it to my list of overused and abused words & phrases we'll have to burn at the end of the year.
tx @ 2:
well, that can't possibly top Obama's appearance with both Brittany and Lindsay.
So there!
willie @ 15:
Hey lay off the guy, he was a former POW who is very low-key about his service, I think people should know that he spent 5 years in a rat-hole in North VietNam, the Liberal MSM has not focused on that aspect of his campaign so far, and hopefully they will get off their Obama-crush and start focusing on the Maverick and his heroic experience as a POW and navy captain.
Doesn't the McSame campaign relize that in this day and age of the internet tubes everything can be checked out and all lies will be shown the light of day?
willie @ 15:
wait! I'll start holding my breath.
just tell me when it's ok to breath again.
JimboSlice @ 22:
navy captain? you mean like that stint crashing plane on carriers?
Please! tell me more....
Why anyone would put the words "Ronald Reagan" and "common sense" together is totally beyond me. Ronny had no common sense whatsoever... just the ability to take money for acting like he was the president... he too was a puppet and stooge.
Political celebrity - no;
political liability - yes.
This is too funny. Make sure Olbermann and the MSM know about this. McCain deserves to be hammered about his hypocrisy.
You know, McCain might do better to just give in and focus on performing really great prat falls.
From Knight-Ridder: May 7, 2000 (free subs req):
"McCain sees his celebrity as a political resource and has been cultivating it,"
Plenty of other news stories referred to McCain's "celebrity since the 2000 campaign", most notably, his "celebrity as a former POW".
JimboSlice @ 22:
When was Maverick made a captain? Goddamnit, Iceman never tells me anything anymore ... /topgun
And here's the answer to your liberal MSM dilemma: FAIRNESS DOCTRINE.
You may remember that. Your hero, Ronald W. Reagan, sliced it up so professional bloviators like Rush Limbaugh could rise to prominence.
How do you get mcCains eyes to sparkle?
Ans. Shine a flash light in his ears.
BaScOmBe hearts Lara Logan and Rachel Maddow @ 25:
You must be living in a cave with no outside access to believe MCCain's service to his country and "hero" status hasn't been pumped up.
Just what color is the sky in your world?
JimboSlice @22
i am....him one also.
"Hey lay off the guy, he was a former POW who is very low-key about his service, I think people should know that he spent 5 years in a rat-hole in North VietNam, the Liberal MSM has not focused on that aspect of his campaign so far, and hopefully they will get off their Obama-crush and start focusing on the Maverick and his heroic experience as a POW and navy captain."
sure and i hope that all the wicked bloggers will stop highlighting inconsistencies in McSame's political views and policies as he "matures" into a repube candidate worthy of the powerfull right wing voters. And also remember that his "gaffes" are not born of ignorance or any intellectual lacking, but they are simple misstatements that everyone should view lightly and "get over it". He does often say "straight talk" and drive around in a big flashy bus that is emblazoned with" straight talk express" on the side. I mean if it weren't true, wouldn't that be a liability as far as truth in advertising goes?
John McCain's duality of being is at the core of his campaign. Read more. http://www.tagg-lines.com/2008/08/its-going-to-be-long-hot-summer.html
On a related note:
Take a look at this "Dick move of the week."
http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=178207&title=dick-...
Make an article about it! It's the celeb video of John McCain in which Paris Hilton featured, from the same Hilton family that contributed $4600,- to the McCain campaign!!
JimboSlice @ 22:
Are you kidding? He holds that up as one of his main qualifications to run for preznit!!! He's a war hero; we should kiss his arse no matter how wrong he is on any given topic because of his time in captivity. No, sorry! The MSM has covered this in a favorable light ad nauseum. They've caressed McCain's jock on this matter like they do with everything else involving this man. Besides, if McCain wants to talk about it some more, I am sure they will give him the air time.
On the other had, maybe I am reading your post wrong. Are you saying that maybe taking a deeper look into his terrible experience might bring up some unfavorable things about McCain? Now that would be interesting. To be honest, though, I am not all that interested in that topic either way. I don't want to open up old wounds like that, not even for McCain. We can beat this man on the issues, personality, and every thing else without having to open up this horrid chapter in his life again.
What The Holy Heck @ 29:
I dunno about the pratfalls, the old guy could break a hip.
JimboSlice @ 22:
What does his experience as a POW have to do with his demonstrating good enough judgment to be president? I don't quite see why his now-constant blunders, frightening lack of understanding of mid-east affairs, and very poor comprehension of the U.S economy should be swept under the rug because he was a prisoner of war forty years ago.
Did you guys catch Jon Stewart last night? Great peace on McCain --- probably the best ever.
Go over to Comedy Central and see it.
On a related note:
Take a look at this "dick move of the week" segment from the Dailyshow with Jon Stewart:
http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=178207&title=dick-...
It's the "celeb-video" from the McCain campaign in which a certain Paris Hilton featured, from the same Hilton family that funded $4600,- to John McCain!!
If I was Richard Hilton that would be such as the ultimate Fuck you!
tx @ 2:
One you missed: a surprise guest appearance on "Celebrity Jeopardy" in 2004.
really?.. 'dis the best we can do... ooh... you're a celebaty...
Bonkers the Presumptuous Fist Jabber @ 36:
Am I kidding? DUHHHH
This topic is too funny and yet sad. He whose name I dare not say - can't remember from one hour to the next and he wants to be the president. Don't put yourself out there only to be made a fool of mintues later. It's just plain sad.
The fact that anyone is falling for this desperate hack-job from the McCain campaign or from any Republican for that matter (and pathetically, some are) is further proof that we are a nation of battered wives. Ironically, men who actually beat their wives are 10 times more likely to vote Republican.
Mugsy @ 41:
A bit more detail from the provided link:
In the category of real "power players," Sen. John McCain made a surprise guest appearance at the end of the first taping, when he took over for Trebek to introduce the Final Jeopardy question. McCain was on the first-ever edition of "Jeopardy!" back in 1964, when he screwed up a Final Jeopardy question about Heathcliff from the novel "Wuthering Heights." (He would like us to note that he knew the answer, he just said the book name instead of the character.)
"I remember how excited I was to be on, and I also remember how angry I was at myself," McCain said. "$2,000 was a lot of money 40 years ago, for a Navy lieutenant."
willie @ 34:
Awwww, the media is being mean to Johnny Maverick? Cry me a river, build me a bridge, and GET OVER IT.
Right. So when liberals say things, they're liars. When a politician prone to missteps and gaffes says them, he's a straight talker, because how could he be anything else?
GOP. The Blind Leading The Stupid. 2008.
#9...Apparantly Paris Hilton's Gramps is not to happy with McCain either. Saw this over at FDL Campaign Silo.
[T]he phone was burning off the hook today with calls from Paris Hilton’s grandfather, William Barron Hilton (co-chair of the Hilton Hotel empire), furious that [John McCain's commercial] drew an unflattering comparison between Obama and his own granddaughter.
It seems that the elder Hilton has donated $18,400 to the McCain campaign, and $35,000 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee in the last couple of years [...]
Paris Hilton isn’t just a tabloid tart to be tossed around willy-nilly. She’s the living brand name of one of America’s most successful global corporations.
JimboSlice @ 43:
I don't know, are you? Did you read the second half of my post where I guessed you and I might be on the same side or are you just looking to rumble with any takers, so you just ignored it? I'm not interested, if that is the case....in fact, break is over, so I couldn't it I wanted to!
Peace!
Mugsy @ 46:
McCain’s arguments to be hypocritical at best. McCain’s own political career is owed to his celebrity status as a war hero.
Those folks at Google deserve every penny they rake in.
HA!
Hey McCain, can I have your autograph? I loved your work in "Man Gets Hit By Football"!
Smashing my face against a wall, hoping to be relieved from the high school politic, and discuss something that matters...
still no mention of the anthrax story here on C&L?
Here, let me help.
ABC's coverage
Glenn Greenwald breaks it on down
McCain is no Reagan. Bush stole that one. Just look at our current economic situation. Reminds me of the late 80's, after 7.5 yrs of our last cowboy prez.
Deja vu all over again.
mccain's swabbing the deck?
Thank you Al Gore for inventing the INTERNET.
It came in real handy
Mugsy @ 46:
McGramps also appeared in the blockbuster hit 'Wedding Crashers'.
tx @ 2:
But the real test of ubber-celebrity: has he ever been on The Simpsons?
sharkcellar @ 54:
thanks for the link sharky.
JimboSlice @ 22:
I suspect what John McLame did in prison for five years is what he is now doing to us: JERKING OFF!
right on! @ 26:
Thank you. This cannot be stressed enough.
I'll wager McSame has more time with his dick in his hands than the joysticks of airplanes. That record might possibly be passed by the time he spends sucking Chimpy's administration's dick or is that Dick?
What The Holy Heck @ 38:
Oh, how we forget how little respect the Right-wingers have for Vietnam Vets. Remember the Swiftboating of John Kerry. Remember the tiny band-aids that mocked his purple hearts.
Bonkers the Presumptuous Fist Jabber @ 49:
No, not interested in starting a fight. I take you to a WSJ piece today about Sen. Obama, and if he is "Too Fit to Be President?"
"Though Sen. McCain cannot lift weights due to injuries he suffered as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, he "walked the Grand Canyon rim to rim in August 2006" and hikes whenever he can find the time"
Here you can see that the MSM is trying to work in the POW meme any time they can.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121755336096303089.html?mod=special_page...
Didn't McSame appear on Death Valley Days? I thought he filled in on the 20-mule team when one of the regular jackasses got sick.
anyone that crashes three planes in flight school and graduated 894 out of 899 deserves to be pres in america.
societies get what they deserve as leaders best kept secret in america
McLame is a LIAR ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogTas21jZ6M
mash-up ...
only in america do we call our soldiers war heros for bombing men women and children in that other illegal war.
McSame's last few commercials are for the media's consumption only. His media people feed the crap to the mainstream dullards, and they, in turn, talk about it all day for free. Rove's boys are playing the MSM again. Suckers. And you're only helping. Good job.
researcher @ 67:
Hahaha, you actually may have a point there. Maybe our time in the sun is done, for now, and one more dullard like McWane in the WH would do the trick. Of course, I don't WANT that to be the case (Go, Obama-monitored-by-a-hopefully-reengaged-American-populace!).
JimboSlice,
Thx for the article link.
(SM, re-editing my name again. I will always be 'Bonkers', plus whatever fun topic of the week if the mood strikes me. I know that we need to stick to one handle, but I think you all get the joke as long as it obvious that I am still the same commenter since I haven't been warned or anything)
Speaking of McCain and his affinity for young starlets:
http://www.mediacurves.com/Blog/Stu/
He's probably using lots of Fels Naptha for that. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like after he gets it through the wringer (pic is for the kids, whose grammas didn't have one of these).
As a webmaster i hate caching, but for stuff like this i totally heart google! hehe
EliteLemming @ 53:
Sorry to tell you that it simply isn't going to happen with the MSM that we have. They are a disgrace. Talk about people interested in celebrity. Where ARE the journalists these days.
LegallyBlonde @ 10:
Uh, no.
DCRepublican.com shows that McCain has his own blond celebrity connections.
Native Texan @ 33:
the color of burning jet fuel on a carrier deck.
Poor McSenile (and evidently his entire staff) will never be able to understand the workings of the dreaded internet tubes storing device that comes with a big or flat TV tube and keyboard thingy.
Oh and JimboSlice@66, your circular logic is confusing me. If Obama is too fit, then why do you go on to quote that McSenile can walk the Grand Canyon from rim to rim? Besides, shorter WSJ article that you cite: “Obama can’t possibly win the election because 66% of the voting-age population is overweight and 32% is obese which means of course that fat people won’t vote for Obama because he’s too skinny. [Logic supplied by the RNC.]”

One of Rosenfeld's favorite memories of McCain when he was in Meridian is when he commentated for fashion shows put on by wive's clubs at the Navy base.
"He didn't know much about style and fashion, but he could sell more merchandise than I could if I stood on my head. And I'm a pretty good salesperson."
Rosenfeld and her husband, Lewis, were the only civilians in a military supper club that included McCain and his then wife, Carol. She says that McCain's visit to Meridian "brings back the very good times all of us had together."
At the time, Rosenfeld had a young daughter, Karen, who, being excited to know a person who had some celebrity status because of his time as a Prisoner of War, collected newspaper clippings and other memorabilia of McCain.
And the McCain/National Media, raciest strategy continues as they now want to seriously paint Senator Obama as the raciest. This is what they do.
Just turn into any one of the political networks and you will find the sleaze on every program, with this do you think this is going to hurt Obama crap, when they know that he is responding to all of the attacks, from not just McCain, but them also. The man is conveniently using the media, who gleefully carries the water for him.
We got a real good picture of this with the Katy Couric debacle last week, changing the video of a man, that is clearly out of touch. They now want this to go away, so they can all continue this mess,on all the networks, instead of talking about the issues, that Obama is committed to, and trying for the life of him, to get to the people. They are having none of that though, because they know that McCain just can't match him.
Each time they show Senator Obama speaking they have these nasty raciest comments underlined, right below him, so while he is speaking, you also view what they or McCain are charging him with. He can't win for losing is the message they want to send.
Just yesterday you saw CNN, cameras enter this tiny rule community, down south somewhere (you never even heard of the place), yet they interviewed a few white Americans, whom of course gave them the answer they were after, weather they would vote for Obama and weather or not they thought he was a Muslim.
You never heard them correct the people, they just wanted to send the message that white people are afraid of this man, hoping to expand the message, also knowing that in these small rule communities, there is little or no information flowing, except for the likes of Rush Limbaugh and the Fox News gang, and you can take it from there.
These people are well aware that American people of all colors, are masking together in the hundreds of thousands, because we know what it is going to take to rid ourselves of this right wing mob, that has simply terrorized this country, and yes they are also a part of it and are scared to death of what their own sad futures, will be. They also know that there is power in numbers, they simply don't have.
It's been going on and on for months now, they pick up on any and every little tid bit, they can dig out from under rocks, toilets, where ever, to derail this man runs for office, yet now they have finely reached rock bottom.
He is now supposed to be the raciest, because he has finely stood up to them and is dealing with this disgusting situation they have placed him in, by letting his supporters know from his one words, what to expect from not just McCain, but our own national media, who also has good reason to rally around this man, to do what ever they can to stop the democratic machine.
No matter how hard this man works, as is the case for most people of color in this country. He is going to be blocked at every turn and in every way imaginable, from the powers that be. It is the main reason we have such a terrible image problem, all over the world.
There is also no doubt in the minds of democrats, that we even have to worry about fair polling now as these major pollsters, are also owned, operated and controlled by special interest and they continue on with these bogus, land line, phone polling for there partners in crime.
It makes no difference what they do, because in the end, they will have too re-explain how they gave the numbers, they gave. Just like in the 2000, 2004,2006, elections, and then they will be shut down and put out of business, right along with the right wing machine.
They know that McCain is old and that he is sick and worse yet, not competent or really qualified for the office of President, no matter how many years he has spent in even a Senate seat, he was not qualified for. Like George Bush, this man came from privileged background and like Bush, we have had enough of these people who want and get the job for these unjust reasons. We want people who really understand what it takes to run this country, not corporate scum, like we have.
The fact that Obama is saying to his supporters, that McCain and his owned, operated and controlled media, are going to continue to attempt to scare you about me, is going to continue, because they are not going anywhere near the other real issues, we face and the reason is because they are the people most accountable for this American mess.
Oh yea, but Obama who happens to be both black and white, is race bating. I wonder which one he is supposed to be pandering too?. According to the young brother that spoke out at his event, its not black America. Food for thought.
Just last month a radio station here in Phoenix ran a contest where you could win a new car if you could convince the biggest celebrity to call in to the station on your behalf.
Guess who called, was declared the biggest celebrity, and won the contest?? Yep, John McCain himself. He beat out a couple of rock stars, actresses and athletes.
(In fairness, he was calling on behalf of a family who unquestionably deserved the car. But still, I can't believe he's attacking Obama's celebrity when he himself was calling in to win "biggest celebrity" radio contests just a few weeks ago...)
http://www.azcentral.com/ent/music/articles/2008/06/06/20080606mccainabb...
The shitbird mccain has been running on his 'celebrity' status as a Vietnam war POW since he started in politics.
