Who Is Playing The Race Card?
Toby "I love a good lynching" Keith:
Even though the black society would pull for him I still think that they think in the back of their mind that the only reason [Barack Obama] is in [the general election] is because he talks, acts and carries himself as a Caucasian."
Why is it that only idiots that defile the national dialogue are the ones being given a platform?

This is a sickness that must be exposed and healed.
F.U.T.K.
Chickenhawk, douchebag, war profiteer, racist, redneck, alcoholic, hayseed, wannabe cowboy, redstater, neanderthal, flag
waving, fag hating, waste of human flesh, bastard child of Lee Greenwood and Anita Bryant.
I don't buy my entertainment from politicians and I certainly don't want to hear politics from certain celebrities, unless of course, they can make it witty and funny and can speak truth to power like Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart and Robin Williams. Unfortunately for so many Republicans, they just aren't funny.
Toby Keith is what we used to call a "Coca Cola Cowboy" back in Houston.
Meaning he's a fake, pandering, wannabe who would run from the first sight of a fight - run like a woman pulling her skirt up (no offense to the ladies).
Toby Keith ain't no cowboy - he's a faker and a total loser who talks tough and that's it. I'm sure you can expect to see him on Hannity sometime soon since dorks of a feather tend to stick together.
Hey Toby, on the off chance that you read this post - I'll meet you any time, anywhere to shove your words and your career down your throat. Just email me. Punk.
And to think this guy is adored by millions! Wasn't he the same guy who threw a plastic bottle of water on the 'Colbert report'? What a tool.
Toby Keith's political sophistication is right down there with that of his "music."
Toby, Pat Tillman's slot is empty. Why don't you sign up to fill it?
What does anyone expect of Toby me-me-me-me fracking Keith, anyway???
Chickenhawk, douchebag, war profiteer, racist, redneck, alcoholic, hayseed, wannabe cowboy, redstater, neanderthal, flag
waving, fag hating, waste of human flesh, bastard child of Lee Greenwood and Anita Bryant. = cracker
Because idiots are more entertaining, and we no longer have news in America. Just infotainment. The fact that it lets the dumbest people in the country drive the political agenda is just an unfortunate side effect.
One time Charlie Rose had Richard Dawkins (famous geneticist and advocate of the theory of evolution) on his show. Rose said "Are you aware that 50% of the people in this country don't believe in evolution?" Dawkins answered: "I didn't know that, but it doesn't surprise me. And it's not unique to America. We have ignorant people in Britain, too. We just don't vote them all into office."
Trailer park trash with money is still trailer park trash.
A new kind of stupid was discovered today. It was located in the very center of singer Toby Keith's minute brain. This new kind of stupid registers even lower than that of the average pile of dog shit. Scientist are in a state of disbelief as a result of this amazing discovery.
Bitter Bud Hussein @ 5:
Question,
If Obama spoke and carried himself like an inner city gangbanger, or else spoke and carried himself like Rev. Wright, do you think he would have won the primaries?
Let's face facts, most Americans are still inately racist, as my more left-wing friends are so fond of reminding me. So with that in mind, let's admit that Obama would NOT have been accepted if he fit the white stereotype of what it means to be a "black male".
This is not to suggest you have to agree with Toby Keith or those who claim that he wouldn't be where he is if he didn't assimilate. But rather, you know deep down that far too many Americans still view race as a litmus test to the presidency.
I think somebody put a boot in his ass. Unfortunately, that's where he'd been keeping his brain.
Toby, other countries don't hate us for our freedoms. They hate us because of guys just like you.
Go clear some brush, or something, tough guy.
Shoo. I have limited time to snark latent homosexuals with jingoism problems.
LibertyLover @ 4:
I don't think you have a choice. The two groups (entertainers and politicians) have merged in the last 30 years, whether we like it or not. Politicians acting like jackasses, and entertainers acting like politicians (sometimes even being elected to public office) sells more advertising spots on TEEVEE, and that's been the main driving force behind it.
Give me the Dixie Chicks any day. Why don't we hear more from them?
Never heard of him. Hope I never do again.
Hmm, I wonder why Ford Motor Company hasn't dropped him from their roster?
To me he'll be just a speed bump in music history while the Dixie Chicks will be considered legends in the same breath as Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.
Hey!
Toby's the second-most-famousest person in Oklahoma.
Behind Garth Brooks.
(hey, they say he likes it like that, knowuddamean>?)
This'd be a helluva country if every dumb, red-necked shit-stick with a guitar and an accent couldn't get on a stage and find a podium from which to say the DUMBEST Shit, to which all his dumb-ass fans frantically assent. Wouldn'wanna live in no cunchry like that... no, sir
Yeah, because US society is soooo tolerant of nonmainstream people...that's why a gay traditionalist half-black half-Indian transvestite can win the Presidency, am I right?
Naww...didn't think so.
Isn't this the same guy who verbally pissed on the Dixie Chicks when they said they were embarrassed that george bush was from Texas?
isn't obama half caucasian?
...Ill put a boot in my mouth, its the American way...
pissed off patricia @ 22:
Yep.
broadsword @ 15:
No...other countries hate us because of our sheer size and the size of our big sticks we brandish with wide stances. Uncle Sam is a total polar bear. ;)
Julie @ 11:
Not only does he know this to be true, he's exploiting it for all it's worth.
Of course we know him to be a no-talent cracker asshole.
redcat @ 23:
Shhh....don't use facts with discussing politics. Bad form.
Whaddaya want ya Toby? Would you be happy if he bugged his eyes out, stuck his ass out, and talked in 'ebonics' ??? I guess Obama doesn't fit your profile of a black man.
Toby Keith is precisely why we should start investing research and money into inbreeding prevention programs.
I thought his song hit right on with the cognitive dissonance of the right, focused on the smaller crimes, that while they do affect some people in terrible ways....the bigger crimes by the corporations and criminal politicians go either unnoticed, or just given a wink and a nod.
I wondered why Colbert had him on....maybe to show the the world what their mentality really is...but when I heard the audience clappin' along, and then Colbert runnin out and seemingly fawning over him...it was a head scratchin WTF moment for me...
wonder if someone complained about Nas performing on the show a week or so ago, and said hey we need to balance it out with some shitty modern country music.
redcat @ 23:
Yes, but I will make a hefty bet that Toby doesn't know that, along with a lot of other things intelligent people all know.
The only people who listen to Toby Keith are the Limpballs and Oliely listeners. So what does that tell us? They are morons, plain and simple.
If Toby was a real cowboy, you'd call him a saddle-douchebag.
But he's not.
More like a horse-and-bidet boy...
Campaign manager Rick Davis made this statement:
"We are not going to let anybody paint John McCain, who has fought his entire life for equal rights for everyone, to be able to be painted as racist."
i'm pissed
He dosen't even support equal pay
What the F*CK! its going on?
Country Music was invented by MARKETING. Garth Brooks MAJORED in it.
bateman @ 27:
Cracker is a pretty racist statement. Even if you don't like the guy, we should refrain from calling people racist names. We wouldn't like it if someone threw the N word at Obama on here would we?
Toby...he be a good ole boy and votin' for "Buffalo Chip" McCain 'causin' he love the smell of a Harley in the mornin'.
john j @ 34:
*sorry sp
redcat @ 23:
Yes, but is he Caucasian enough?
James @ 14:
So to you, the only choices for Barack Obama is to talk like a gangbanger or a white man?
The fact that Obama is half Caucasian aside, how about Obama speaks like an educated person, regardless of color?
After 8 years of the Idiot in Chief who mangles even the most basic English, I think it's refreshing to see someone speak intelligently. I don't see a color in that.
Bob Odenkirk was spot on.
"if you're not from Europe you can s*ck my d*ck"
Breaking:
Mike Tyson has been hired as a "cultural sensitivity coach" to help Obama behave more "black." He's started by giving Barack lessons in proper vocabulary:
You actually overlooked the BIGGER issue of that interview. The fact that crack-head Beck was trying to make the same claim that Rush Limbaugh was making on his show, that BECAUSE we now have a black candidate for president, racism must be extinct in America. (Thus, no more need for affirmative action, 'reverse discrimination' etc.)
Don't let the right wing get away with this subtle propaganda lie.
What they overlook is that the Democratic Party has been progressive and civilized enough to NOMINATE a black candidate, but the Democratic Party is NOT representative of the country as a whole. The fact that we now have a black candidate for president can easily be used as TOKENISM. Something the Republican party, and the right wing in general are experts at exploiting.
Yes. All hat, no cattle, as they say. No wonder he self-identifies with a fraud like Bush.
When did fake tough become a virtue? When and how did false piety find it's footing in our commons?
The music industry has always allowed mediocrity an elegant path to the market, so I get that part.
Bitter Bud Hussein @ 5:
Leadership @ 3:
Let me second that. Keith sang about how brave his DAADDY was to go fight in WWII but couldn't be bothered to sign up for Iraq, he was to busy making money off it.
Just another chickenshit blowhard.
Nicole Belle @ 40:
I agree, he does speak very well and is very eloquent. Unfortunately, a majority of our nation equates "speaking well" with "being white". In fact, it is common in the black community to equate "being intelligent" with "acting white".
Now I totally agree, intelligence should know no color. Unfortunately, that's not the way the majority of our population thinks.
James @ 36:
"Cracker" is "racist?"
Maint'non! Classist, perhaps, but not 'racist,' per se.
"is because he talks, acts and carries himself as a Caucasian."
Maybe Obama talks, acts, and carries himself as a Human Being. And uppity nigras ought not do that.... /snark/
Why didn't Toby say white person instead of Caucasian?
Yellow Elephant Safari @ 39:
It's the white side of him that's arrogant and effete while the black side is the uppity one.
Toby Keith is not the exception to the rule...unfortunately.
First off all let me preface this by saying I don't listen to country Music. The only thing I've heard of Toby Keith is his version of "Never Gonna Give You Up" from Barry White, along with Former NBA player turned jazz musician Wayman Tisdale.
And I disagree with his Obama comments. But I also disagree with the insinuation that he was in favor of lynching black people based on those lyrics. I just read the lyrics on that link and, to me anyway, it was talking about basically being a pro-death penatly guy and saying round up all these murderers and stringing them up. I understand the symbolism involved here and how some people may construe that as something else, but I honestly don't think that's what he was going for.
Everyone is afforded their own interpretations, but I think it's pretty dishonest and shameful to have all these people painting him as "loving a good lynching" knowing full well what those four words are going to mean to people considering what he said about Obama.
Shame on anyone who goes there.
Toby. Join up.
woody, tokin librul @ 47:
Well, let's see, would you call a poor Latino or a poor black person a "cracker"? I've never heard it used like that. But I could be wrong.
P.D. @ 6:
No. That was Richard Branson the Billionaire.
I thought the same thing. However, Colbert's character would be a fan of Toby Keith. I don't think Toby understands that Colbert is making fun of his viewpoints. I think he thinks he agrees with him. Toby Keith = Not an "It" getter. JMHO.
Gary @ 51:
______________
Toby is a stupid redneck & you are just plain stupid.
Well, don't forget how the Dixie Chicks lost all their fans the day they decided to criticize Der Fuehrer over the Iraq war.
does toby actually believe that or is he just acting like an inbred, uneducated, hillbilly?
I'm sure he meant it as a compliment.
No, bad beard card.
Either grow a real one cub, or shave the damn thing off!!!
Obummer @ 57:
Both.
Obummer @ 57:
Sorry, he's not acting...
Ratface @ 55:
And yet another racist remark. Did we become freepers here or something? Hate the guy if you want, but please refrain from the offensive racist comments. Thanks!
theWalrus @ 49:
Damn, that is brilliant.
Hmmm. I think he's allowed to sing what he wants, even if I think it sucks. I get tired of people worked up about music. He made it, people bought it, 1st Amendment, yes?
On the other hand, I'm not quite sure what the F$#@! Bobby G is on about in 42. If he has a point, other than that Mike Tyson don't speak so good, I'm not sure I want to know what it is.
Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury. The defense rests.
Yellow Elephant Safari @ 61:
Didja see the clip of his new movie, the one he supposedly wrote, and stars in? Glenn Beck aired it while interviewing him. "Acting"? Hahahahahahahahahahahahohohohohohohohohohoheeheeheeheeheeheehee...
Right down there along with his political views and music "talent." Cat is a Legend In His Own Mind.
Oh that's it! The entire black community wants a black president who behaves like a white man.
Toby dun found us out!
W-T-F! Is this man breathing too many truck fumes or what?
Finrod @ 64:
You snark-challenged?
Now here's some Texan good-ol boys with real beards, among other things.
I hope nobody's flatulent.
http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/72/039_31619~ZZ-Top-Posters...
He acts, talks, and carries himself as a competent, articulate and intelligent person. He does NOT act, talk, or carry himself like Toby Keith.
Now THIS is when celebs should keep their yaps shut about politics. Yeesh what a dumb guy, especially for a Caucasian. I always expect them to be smarter, more educated.
Isn't this the yokel who sang the praises of Ford trucks and got famous for it?
ysbaddaden @ 59:
I don't think he's trying to send that message. A REAL beard is a REAL hillbilly thing. He wants to give the impression that he's a 'Midnight Cowboy,' if you know what I mean.
Real men have REAL beards!

Gary @ 51:
Gary, you must have missed this part:
Huffington Post
I agree that the lyrics by themselves seem to be innocuous and reminiscent of the good ol' days of Texas Justice, the video clearly indicates something else.
Finrod @ 64:
Yes. He has every right to record and say whatever he wants. I have the right to say he sucks and not listen. The End.
the honorable tobias skeeter keith, the philadelphia chamber of commerce officially and formerly invites you to an engaging evening...
in west friggin philly.
let's see how quickly your ignorant and racist ass stops frontin', i give it about 2.3 seconds after you
step off your horseget out of your limo.ohhh, to be sheltered and sequestered... i am partly jealous tobias skeeter, partly.
BobbyG @ 42:
I chortl'd.
BobbyG @ 7:
You took the GD words out of my mouth. At least Pat Tillman walked the walk.
Everyone is afforded their own interpretations, but I think it’s pretty dishonest and shameful to have all these people painting him as “loving a good lynching” knowing full well what those four words are going to mean to people considering what he said about Obama.
I just read the lyrics.
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street
For all the people to see
......
We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
too much corruption and crime in the streets
It's time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
It's clear he's calling for mayhem. (gangster = blacks) Obviously Mr. Keith never saw "The Oxbow Incident".
'Course, having looked at his (Bobby G.'s) 'blog, he might be okay. Not my brand of humor, tho'--but perhaps lack of coffee is making me cranky.

Toby who?
displaced @ 72:
So a single scene in a video is somehow indicative of the entire piece? I mean, if he only showed white people as the criminals, that would be a bit dishonest, wouldn't it? Just as if he had shown all black people. I don't know what his views on black people are. I don't pretend to know. I mean he just did a song with a black musician, so I don't know. And no, I'm not going for the "he has black friends" argument. lol
I don't know. It just reminds me of the people who say that Godfather is racist, because of the scene where the familes all got together and was talking about leaving the drugs and that kinda thing to the black people (not using those words) and let them deal with it.
As if a single scene, actually a single LINE could sum up someone's thoughts, out of a nearly 3 hour film.
Finrod @ 78:
C'mon, just implicitly calling snarky bullshit on the whole "Barack is too white" thing. Obama can do nothing right in the eyes of bigots like Toby Keith. Were he to "talk black," he'd catch hell for that as well.
john j @ 79:
Ughhh....I would have preferred Jonathan Turley, Greg Palast, Thom Hartman and Keith Olberman.
Brokaw is the WORST of the lot.

Crackers aren't just poor white people, James. It describes a social attitude, not a racial affiliation. Out her in the southwest, there are indeed latino folks whom i'd defiinitely regard as 'crackers.' "Galletas"? Could be...But anyway, it's not a 'racial' category. It describes a particular strain of mainly southern, unconscious, unwarranted superiority.

But I always thought it be cool to have a lady dog and name her Bitch.
Hey Toby, put a boot up your ass and go ENLIST will ya !
Do you supoport the troops or NOT ?
Jay @ 54:
Yes his alter ego WOULD be a fan indeed, and that crossed my mind as well, sometimes I think Colbert is really a super duper genius...
Yeah poor ol Toby, just can't fathom the really deep sarcasm...HA!
Samson- @ 98:
So then by saying he's pro lynching, you're saying he wants to lynch BLACK PEOPLE, not just the "Bad Boys", is that correct?
Because when you post up a line like: Toby "I love a good lynching" Keith, that's EXACTLY what you are saying. Hopefully no one is of the belief that anyone reading this is stupid enough to believe that that's not the insinuation.
BobbyG @ 97:
Cheers! Go Panopticon, complete with Foucault quotes, b/t/w.
Check this out :
Turns out Keith has purchased a 50% interest in the Heartland Shopping Center development in Owensboro.
What we find most interesting, though, is that Owensboro was home to the last public hanging or lynching in the United States:

Really the Last Public Execution in America?
http://www.geocities.com/lastpublichang/LastPublicExecution.htm
Maybe they'll use his song at the Republican Convention. Can you just imagine all those dipshits singing along!?
re: the last post: I meant that "so then by saying he's pro-lynching, you're saying he watns to SPECIFICALLY lynch Black People, not just the "Bad Boys"
Joe Lieberman just issued a statement:
"To anyone about to be lynched, just sit back and enjoy it."
Obama is an articulate, intelligent, and engaged person.
We are lucky and honored to have him as the Democratic Presidential hopeful.
Toby Keith doesn't deserve to speak this man's name nor obviously given any platform for his warped world view perspective.

I hate these people almost as much as they hate me.
Gary @ 107:
iirc, if you've watched, the video, you know that when tk voices the explicit sentiment, the most prominent figure in the frame is a caricature of an urban 'gangsta.' It's visually explicit that the "bad boys" to who he refers are scary black men...You never been around film if you think editing like that's an accident, cully...
Everything that's bad about the current state of country music is represented right here, in this one man. No soul in his music, no sympathy in his lyrics. Just ass-kickin' and American superiority, all while stylized and blowdried within an inch of his life. Yessir.
Dick.
If you think that this boze represents real country music, go out and buy a Buck Owens album today. Or George Jones. Loretta Lynn. Johnny Paycheck. Conway Twitty. Hag. Dwight Yoakam. Red Meat. Dave Alvin. Derailers. Jesus, just anybody who can show you how good the art form can be.

Hmm....I was born and and raised in the south, and I was under the impression "Cracker" referred to, historically anyway, to a white man that owned slaves and was fond of using the whip.
Guess it depends on what part of the south ya growed up in.
A couple of points here. Just because Keith uses Texas in his lyric, he is not a Texan. That he would choose Texas for his lyric is interesting, though. It was just 10 years ago some good 'ol boys in Jasper dragged James Byrd, Jr. behind a truck (a Ford, Toby?) until his head came off. Paris, Texas, which is not that far from Keith's home state of Oklahoma, has a horrible history of lynchings, including one of the most gruesome ever recorded (Henry Smith - I will spare the details - Google if you are interested.) I don't know, this song compared to what Don Imus said...geez...really? Finally, I have a distant cousin that is a musician that plays for a huge country superstar. He has toured with Keith, and says the guy is a total stupid piece of shit that even his own band can barely stand. They could not wait until their tour with him was over.
This idiot lives about 5 miles from my house in Norman, OK. I see him driving his truck every now and then, and I always shoot him the finger. He always looks confused.
Furthermore, Bobby G., I had a look at your thesis. I might even read that puppy!
I teach philosophy, which leads people (on all sides) to assume that I think what they think (talking to them in bars, at least).
My favorite guy was the guy who tried to quote Fred Thomson on Law and Order at me "there's no right to privacy in the constitution!" without ruminating on the fact that I had been sitting there during the episode, just finished. Sheesh.
Full disclosure, I also like your thesis conclusion, so am inclined to read it. :)
Musicians.
So, sorry my snark-dar wasn't on.
Gary @ 104:
well, good... i made my point
i am saying--now in a clearer formula!--that tobias skeeter keith is looking fondly back to they day when WHITE people lynched BLACK people.
i hope that is as clear as i need to be.
i was never trying to insinuate, i was trying to explicitly state that.

who gives a flying good goddamn what Toby KKKeith has to say??

The other morning I was surfing the channels on tv and came to fox and friends. This guy was on the show talking about his movie and all. He was wearing a baseball cap with his sunglasses resting on the visor of the cap. He had on a shirt and jeans that looked like he had slept in them for several nights. He was half laying down on his back on the couch propped up by his elbow. It was the most bizarre thing. I quickly changed the channel because it was too early in the morning to look at something like that.
Keith is as much a cowboy as dum-dum in the WH is.

Award yourself extra points for not knowing who he is, you're a better person for it.
didn't think he knew what the word 'caucasian' meant.
I tried once to keep track of every time a rapper on a CD made racist remarks.
I lost count at about 200.
Won't be long before the Rethuglican Rovians will be morphing Obama's picture with 50 Cent. Those who think he's "too white" now won't after that.
SoonerDem @ 123:
Lol, I bet he does look confused.
Fall is coming and soon he'll be roaming the sidelines with Stoops and the BBQ Wrestling guy.
honuman @ 140:
I'm a fan of the word "caucasoid" myself.
mccain-mclame @ 141:
Can't argue that...though it's still wrong no matter the source.
Ruthless People @ 142:
"Barack Obama isn't black enough to be president - therefore, vote McCain"
He was born in Moore, OK, a suburb south of OKC. Moore has painted one of their water towers near I-35......"Home of Toby Keith." Sweet huh?
He did back our Democratic governor though. So did Barry Switzer. That's enough around here to get one elected.
bateman @ 143:
LOL!!! I'd pay caaaaash monies, Amerkan, to get a pic of that!
Finrod @ 124:
No harm, no foul.
