Face The Nation: Rove Gives Obama Veep Advice

icon Download | play    icon Download | play   (h/t Heather)

Who is the last person on the planet that Barack Obama should take advice from?  Naturally, the person that Bob Schieffer asks on Face the Nation, Turd Blossom himself, Karl Rove.  Seriously, this guy is an advisor for the McCain campaign, he's the architect of one of the nastiest and most partisan campaigns in the history of the country and for some reason, Schieffer thinks it's legitimate to ask him his thoughts on Obama's VP pick.  Why?

Rove tries to spin this that if Obama selects a governor like Kaine from a red state, it's a political choice, rather than a presidential one, because all Obama is focused on is the electoral votes.  Okay.  Because Cheney was a real presidential choice...oh wait, Bush didn't make the choice.  Cheney chose himself. That's thinking big and broad.

What cracks me up the most is Karl Rove's attempt to diminish Kaine as a VP candidate:

I didn't say I thought he ought to, I said he probably would pick a Red State Democrat, because I think he's going to make an intensely political choice, not a governing choice. He's going to view this through a prism of a candidate, not through the prism of President. That is to say, he's going to pick somebody that he thinks on the margin will help him in a state like Indiana or Missouri or Virginia. He's not going to be thinking big and broad about the responsibilities as President. Well, with all due respect again to Gov. Kaine, he's been a governor for three years. He's been able but undistinguished; I don't think people could really name a big, important thing that he's done.

And this differs from GWB's tenure as Governor of Texas how?  Oh that's right, the Governor of Virginia actually works more than the constitutionally weak Governor of Texas.  And how did GWB distinguish himself, other than putting more people to death than all the rest of the states combined?  By failing at every other business he started

Talk about appealing to the low information voter.

Transcripts below the fold

SCHIEFFER: You have said in the past that Obama should probably pick a Red State Governor, someone like Tim Kaine that we just heard just a minute ago, from Virginia. Gov. Kaine seems to think Democrats really can carry Virginia this time, but you think that state's going to be in play?

ROVE: I think it's going to be in play, but let me clarify. He was mayor of the 105th largest city in America. Again, with all due respect to Richmond, Virginia, it's smaller than Chula Vista, California, Aurora, Colorado, Mesa or Gilbert, Arizona, North Las Vegas or Henderson, Nevada. It's not a big town. So if you were going to pick Governor Kaine, it would be an intensely political choice where he said, you know what, I'm really not first and foremost concerned with is this person capable of being President of the United States, what I'm concerned about is can he bring me the electoral votes of the state of Virginia, the thirteen electoral votes of Virginia.

Turdblossom!

Maybe Turd Blossom thinks Obama should pick a vice president who would lie the nation to war then steer no bid government contracts in that oil rich country to his former company?

Utterly beyond satire.

And the old moron didn't call him out on it. The most blindingly obvious thing to say in the face of this BS. And he missed it. (Or chose not to pursue it.)

OMG! He looks like he's caught the Roger Ailes' 'buttocks-face' disease...

Unless he's under oath, I don't care what he says.

Pigboy oinks out some more worthless drivel. Big deal. Shame on Scheiffer for even giving this festuring turd any airtime. I hope they send this creature from the black lagoon to Leavenworth soon.

Scheiffer has only succeeded in lowering himself, by not that much, to Rove's level in giving him that much prominence. This was no surprise, however, considering Scheiffer's position as a water-carrier for the extreme right.

Yeah, Mr. Rove, you wouldn't wanna base your decisions on political calculations. That would be so vulgar, so common, so Rove.

Benedict Rove.

This man should be tried for treason and if found guilty dancing at the end of a rope. Why has he not yet been served for contempt of congress? Is this something else Pelosi has taken off the table?

Who gives a Sh*t what he thinks.

As time goes on he looks more and more
like a pig to me? What say you?

That orange jail jumpsuit is gonna clash with his skin tone.

Can't we wiretap this turd? He's one person that I'm sure wouldn't mind his civil rights being violated.

Karl Rove is a war criminal and currently in contempt of congress . Bob Schieffer and his network should be boycotted for enabling fascism . Period .

Kaine's a nice guy, but unfortunately, he wouldn't bring any more 'gravitas' or 'experience' to the ticket -- if that's what the Obama campaign really thinks is needed.** Virginia's governors are limited to a single 4-year term, which is even weaker than Texas'. Kaine hasn't been able to get anything accomplished in his single term b/c of obstinate Republicans in the Statehouse, who have bottled up any progress on transportation issues.

**With 'experienced' leaders like Rumsfeld, Cheney, et al. having driven the country into the ground on military/foreign policy, I don't think anyone should make too much of his or her tenure in Washington.

What happened, turdboy? No room at Faux today?

"He’s been able but undistinguished; I don’t think people could really name a big, important thing that he’s done."

I wonder who else you could (much more) accurately describe with this statement.

Hint: First name starts with *G*.

This wimpy man is lower than squid shit........PERIOD.....

Oh c'mon, you're being much too hard on Chimpy. He can wave a flag and sniff jocks with the best of them. If I see that retard's face one more time at the Olympics, I'm going to scream. That skidmark must be in heaven. He gets a free trip to the Olympics...doesn't have to think...and gets to watch sports.

And the best part? We taxpayers get to pick up the tab.

...because I think he’s going to make an intensely political choice, not a governing choice. He’s going to view this through a prism of a candidate, not through the prism of president.

I do believe that psychologists call this "projection."

Listening to Roves' insightful advice helped to advance the nation to this point:

http://www.nypost.com/seven/08102008/business/lost_sovereignity_123879.htm

When this fat piglet marches his fat ass up to the Capitol and puts his hand on the Bible and answers the questions that Congress has for him concerning his tampering with justice, destroying the constitution, and dirty tricks, then we should listen to him. Nothing this lying criminal has to say is important. KKKarl Rove is a thug.

Wonder if it was Rove's advice to McCain that he appeal to low-information voters/bikers at Sturgis by pimping his wife for the Miss Buffalo Chip contest...the response? "Show us your boobs, Cindy."

I kid you not. There's more by a local Forum columnist via my homeblog. My first reaction to that request...she oughta point to her husband and whoever wrote that scripted suggestion for him. Clearly they are her boobs.

Maybe Karl and his minions ought to crawl back into their caves sooner rather than later.

Karl Rove is a master manipluator batur. It's wise perhaps to do the opposite of whatever he suggests.

Ahh you're right! Who gives a shit.

Who gives a turd what that fat little piggy says.
All I want to hear from him is what he says after they finally get him in front of Congress.

(I would also want to know why Congress hasn't sent some police after him as they would you or i if we didn't show up for a subpoena)

Turdblossom helped George Bush get defeated twice. Bush only "won" both times by cheating. Turdblossom went on to help the GOP loose both houses of congress so will somebody please explain to me why Turdblossom is considered a "genius"? "The Architect" yes, the architect of failure.

For Rove to say that Barack Obama won't think big and broad about the responsibilities of being the president when choosing a VP, demostrates that Rove doesn't know anything about Barack Obama. Karl Rove is just another Republican has been, like Newt Gingrich and Tom Delay and Rick Santorum. They aren't worth the space that they occupy.

Yeah, Bush is having a grand time at the Olympics while our military are risking their lives in a war based on his lies in Iraq.

the fact that bush, cheney, rove, rumsfeld, wolfowitz hadley and feith aree still alive and not suffering any pain is just further proof to me that no god exists and justice is only served upon the poor.

These men are the architects of the needless war that has cost the US its name, fortune and young lives.

Boy, that Rove comes across as one slimy bas****.
How could anyone even listen to him?
He gave the Bush gang advice for years and look how well that turned out for America.

Can't he get his nose out of the country's business and just go off to his own bad ending without trying to drag the rest of the country down with him?

pasty white Republican guy LOL!

Never mind the absolutely to be ignored bullshit this guy regularly vomits out....Karl Rove is one hideous, nasty looking man. Disgusting Karl ought to ask Michelle Obama to be his personal trainer

I'm nauseated by the fact that this treasonous potato headed war criminal isn't in prison.

i've brought this up several times that bush was a relatively weak governor and therefore a weak candidate in 2000 vs. mccain.bush won and the maverick lost.
i'm going to take obama at his word that he is going to select a v.p. that is aligned with him and someone he can work with. i know all the negatives but in some respect i still like clinton, biden,or clark.....i realize these aren't the most popular choices. the media is certainly making a huge deal out of this. i remember when novak claimed mccain was going to announce his v.p. while obama was in europe/middle east....they're waiting for obama to go first.....this is getting to be
a real theatre of the absurd

Personally, I think able is better than undistinguished or distinguished.

To me, it show they are getting the hell out of the way.

Ron @ 9:

Who gives a Sh*t what he thinks.

I agree. Sounds to me Rove is saying he needs to pick someone who can immediately take the role of POTUS since he feels Obama won't make it through his first term.

Code words, people...code words.

Karl Rove is the human embodiment of everything that effectively describes testicular cancer.

Insanity! If this gov. wasn't so worthless it would pull its collective head out of its collective ass and hound this sack of shit down. Instead he's allowed to show his ugly mug on corpo TV and play the smug pundit as if people give a shit about what this slimy turd has to say.

I wouldn't ask that A-hole directions how to get to the next street.

does the Democratic party have anyone even approximating the genius of Karl Rove? Donna Brazil? James Carville? Fucking halfwits.

if they're ever going to win the whitehouse again, they need to embrace the kind of pure evil such as this man represents.

What I found fascinating by Rove's implication that "picking a candidate from a state just to help you win that state is (for lack of a better word) immature", says to me Rove is suggesting McCain has already decided to pick someone that doesn't win him an extra state. That says to me in loud screaming letters that McCain is going to pick Romney.

What in the fuck did CBS even give this dirty cock-sucker a platform for? He is a fucking war criminal.

well certainly democratic leaders in congress must have seen in their t.v. guides that rove would be on this show. so why haven't they sent someone to haul his pastie ass into jail for contempt? this man walking freely in society is a total joke and one big F.You to the rule of law. i can think of no other person more responsible for the sorry state of affairs we find our great country in at this point in our history.

[Deleted. Off topic-Sitemonitor]

It pains me to say it, but Turdblossom's probably right when he says that Obama picking a Red State Democrat is the "good" political move rather than a good "governing" move. As a centrist, the last thing Obama needs is to pick someone from the moderight wing of the Democratic party (or a Republican), thinking that would help win the election (and you can see how well that worked with the choice of Joe Lieberman in 2000 and John Edwards in 2004).

Someone who's in line with the Blue Dog Democrats or someone who can be persuaded to go along with the Blue Dogs means that the Republicans -- even in a minority -- will be controlling Congress, just as they have been for the past year and a half. If Obama's going to have any effect on righting the ship of state, he needs someone who's not going to paper over the problems that need to be fixed with a spackle of bipartisanship. He'll need someone who can help him define and clarify specifics about solutions, not a VP who doesn't have any serious problems with the Bush administration's policies except for the fact that he wasn't a Democrat.

My irony meter maxes out every time I hear a Republican talk about Obama's " lack of experience" or indeed any democratic candidate. Aren't these the people who gave us Bush whose only experience was five years as Governor of Texas, a largely ceremonial position. Their legislature only meets for 140 days every second year for pity's sake. Any two term city councilor has more political experience than Bush had . My low tolerance for bullshit is being sorely tested.

why the fuck do they even let this guy on t.v. as a commentator? its why I don't watch t.v. news.

to think the weak governor bush beat the maverick in 2000

Man, KKKarl is looking seriously weather worn, but also looking really well fed. I like how he selectively uses the Midwestern accent to sound like he's one of them when pronouncing states like Missouri and Colorado.

Wait, I'm confused. First Obama was presumptuous and acting like he was already president. Now he's acting like a candidate and not the president.

Why, if I didn't know better, I would say the Republicans are being disengenuous and trying to have things both ways.

Dear God he is repulsive.

He's right about Obama needing to pick a capable person. But he's wrong about everything else. He claimed that Obama will pick someone for political reasons and he's wrong that Kaine is a nobody.

Here's how stupid people who fall for Roves BS are. They now believe that a governor of Virginia's entire job is to run the town of Richmond which is smaller than Chula Vista, Aurora, etc. It's funny that only Republican governors like Bush for instance, ran the whole state of Texas, not just the small town of Austin. Austin is even smaller than Richmond. Furthermore, in 2004, senators didn't run anything at all according to Republicans. But that's the case only in elections when the Republican nominee is not a senator.

Why isn't this guy in jail already?

The only thing that's "big and broad" about Rove is his ass.

So if McCain picks someone from a blue state, it's just a political pick? So we can expect Rove to criticize a pick of say a Romney as being purely political? Or is this the sort thing, like extra martial affairs, that are okay if you're a Republican.

This man is a traitor, and yet the corporate media keeps trying to force him on us. Rove and everybody else who is responsible for the sad state this country is in, should be dropped in the middle of Baghdad with nothing but a change of underwear.

Karl, please believe me to be most sincere when I say to you, "oink, oink" . . .

Karl "The Genius" Rove was the man behind having George Bush spend the last two days of the 2000 campaign in California and other blue states to show their confidence while Gore campaigned in Florida and PA.

That's why Gore won.

Jeb, Katherine and 5 Supremes are the only reason Mr. I Have the Math isn't treated with the respect and awe of Ed Rollins.

Running out the clock, that's what that was. Karl gives a long winded answer to fill the segment's time. An on-camera like that is a opportunity to be talking, not taking questions. The longer the marginally relevant answer is, the more of the segment Karl controls, and the less likely he'll have to field an intelligent follow up question. Otherwise, why would he be explaining the most mundane bases of politics to the CBS audience. Picking a running mate to win a state, right, get it. American Politics 101. Why have you filled a whole segment with that nonsense?

Udon Nomee @ 4:

You're assuming it's some sort of virus. However, since Rove, Ailes, Phil Gramm etc. all have it, I would say it's a hereditary condition, and the 'ass face' gene is very closely linked to the right-wing plutocrat gene.

Rollins at least has the sense of public decency to grow a beard, and cover up his ass-face. Rove insists on shoving it in ours. And yes, he seems desperate to recapture his 'boy genius' handle, after having single-handedly wrecked the Republican party, and thrown away 30 years of expensive investment from the fortune 500 club.
