The French Revolution produced the saying "no enemies to the Left" - a mindset that has poisoned both the Left and the Right in American politics. As a result, some figures who should be repudiated have, instead, become prominent representatives. On the Right, in particular, the "go along to get along" approach has created a Movement where the bad guys are protected, and the people who get promoted are those who make friends, not waves.
It's wrong, and it needs to stop. So, with that said...
The continued tolerance and prominence of Jerome Corsi - his books, columns and appearances - is just embarrassing. It is embarrassing for the Right, embarrassing for Republicans, embarrassing for conservatives and libertarians, embarrassing for all of us.
It's not just that he's frequently, remarkably wrong - something pretty well documented and acknowledged by both the Left and (while less enthusiastically) the Right. (and the Obama campaign (PDF), of course) Both the Obama campaign and Hugh Hewitt acknowledge that Jerome Corsi is "fringe".

Stop calling them "Errors", they are out right LIES, all Corsi does is spin lies to detract from real debate. I wouldn't believe a word that came out of that fetid pie hole he calls a mouth even if he said it was dark at night.
In fact, I'd PAY Corsi to go after Obama. The Swiftboat smear has now been totally discredited, and all but the 25-percenters (who wouldn't vote any other way than Republican anyway) know it. He's been discredited, and everybody knows that lies are the only thing that comes out of his typewriter. Now he's coming after Obama, and, since he's a proven liar, everybody will know that everything he says about Obama is untrue. Only problem is that half the lies he's telling are also being told by the Republican attack machine.
If the Dems want to take all of those smears down with one shot, all they have to do is point out that they're being made by Corsi, a proven liar and smear artist.

But Corsi isn't playing to the intellectuals or playing for the fence. He's part of the sideshow that will bring the 'hate' vote. The racists and the bigots and the nut jobs and the whack jobs. He's playing for the 'short bus' crowd and they very well know it!
He's part of the 'pied piper' playing to the idiots crew. Unfortunately since you can't legislate intelligence in and country, he will probably do well in that demographic. Conservatives whine and bitch about how liberals are more close-minded than they are.
This is only because for every right answer to a social or economic problem, there are dozens of wrong answers that conservatives embrace without rhyme or reason. Conservatives will embrace anyone who shares the same wrong answer with them while liberals strive for and accept only the truth.
Its no wonder the conscum don't like the education system.. Teachers and other educators are obviously too liberal for only accepting correct answers to scientific and mathematical problems.

I'm not so sure. Bush has done a very good job of pretty much screwing everyone that isn't making more than 200K a year. I think Corsi is a measure of how frightened the GOP is of losing BIG this November... It would be quite an insult if they lost every seat they competed for. You have to give the knuckle draggers what they want... You know, chum up the waters...

I hope people will give Henke credit for taking the high road. It takes balls when the opposition will surely paint you with a patronizing brush that somehow you see the light of the other side because you reject the worst of the worst in yours.
It's also important to note how some on the left were ostracized for reporting the truth about Edwards. Either the truth is important or it's not. I can't forgive Edwards for betraying his supporters and ruining a message many of us believed in.
It's important to speak out when you feel someone doesn't represent the values of your political views. I wish politics wasn't such a putrid swamp on both sides.
This is a sign of the decay of US politics that a man like this is seen as anything approximating mainstream instead of where he rightfully belongs, the lunatic fringe.
Why exactly is the guy taken even remotely seriously anyhow?
I have (had) a good friend that always talked to me about how rotten liberals are. She read Corsi's book about Kerry and explained to me how the liberals had ruined the United States and how Kerry was a fake war hero.
She was aghast when I asked her if she thought that I was a bad person. Of course, she didn't, but couldn't understand why I would be offended by her remarks....I would say she is pretty typical of a lot of the folks who read his stuff and can't see that people of his ilk are really talking about their friends and relatives, in many cases.

I figured that the ones making under $200k/year were in the bag. Hugh Hewitt is wrong as usual. Corsi is perfectly representative of the political right. Is there a substantive difference between this lunatic and Kristol or lard-ass Goldberg? They both are loose with facts and write about politics from a science fiction view. All espouse insane concepts in the name of ideological purity. Hewitt is nitpicking about a question of degree. The "Fringe" he mentions is the realm of all the stars of wingnuttery and a home he shares with Corsi.

Jon Henke's OP is great, and the intellectual honesty of many of the responses is very impressive.
It's nice to know there are rational people (and batshit crazy motherfuckers) on both the left and the right.
Corsi is criminally and civally liable for his acts. It's our fault he's still in business, because nobody has bothered to hold him responsible in any meaningful way. If Obama and Democrats want Corsi to shut up, he can be compelled to not only shut up but make full apologies and restitution. Corsi works in slander and defamation, with full malice of intent. There are immediate remedies available to address such malfeasance. Obama won't do it. the Democrats won't do it.
You don't make nice with sharks. They'll eat you every time and turn you into shark shit. The only thing sociopaths and psychopaths respect is that which can hurt them, and they will always take forebearance, manners, mercy and the like as a lack of resolve and a proofs of weakness. That's the way of the predator. You don't try to come to an accomodation with predators. Neither do you owe them so much as an iota of pity. That's how you end up getting eaten. And, you don't trust the majority of the people to make informed decisions based upon informed reasoning when it is the predators who control all sources of mass-consumed information. Odds are, those consumers aren't going to be equipped to step up to the plate to defend the person these sharks are trying to eat. If the people these smear machine sharks are targeting won't aggresively defend themselves, nobody else will. It's long past time that Democrats learned that.
Obama has considerable means at his disposal. He should use them. Sue Corsi, his publishers and the MSM, who are collusively complicit in Corsi's acts of malignant slander and defamation. Obtain court orders to restrain promulgation of the slanderous and defamatory material. Given the time-critical nature of the, I'm sure judges would be sympathetic. Make it hurt.
Not all that long ago, if it were LBJ or Richard Daly - for example, Corsi would be laying in an intensive care ward. Or a morgue. That's going too far, but in those days, slime merchants like Corsi wouldn't have lasted a week.
There are plenty of obscure, whacked out beliefs and "theories" which seem to take on a life of their own, thanks in large part to the false sense of affirmation some people are receiving when they spend an inordinate amount of time "on line." However, when the left/right fringe agree on something, e.g. the 9/11 "truth" movement, it takes a special kind of lunacy.
