Other countries laugh at us now, or shake their heads in disbelief. Their lack of "confidence" in us arises from distrust, disbelief, and being screwed over relentlessly by the neocon's goals. It will take many, many years for this damage to be undone. I advocate us just stepping away from the world scene for a bit under an Obama administration to focus on us, our children, our schools, our hospitals, our roads, our cities, and all the other domestic priorities that have been allowed to languish. Let the other countries be and sort their own stuff out for a while. Then we can all awaken from this long national nightmare.

It was a completely ordinary statement. I've wondered why liberals have adopted a Henry Kissenger/ Pat Buchanan isolationism and right-wing nativism as if it's noble or something. It's not.
If he meant that "helping other countries" means, oh - I don't know - not coming to their aid in time of need like we did recently in Kuwait/Iraq in the early 90's, or invading Panama and killing innocent civilians to get our CIA plant out the leadership in that country or "helping" Chile or Iran with the Shah, etc......yeah, if he meant THAT kinda "help", then he certainly has a point. On the other hand, it obviously doesn't lessen the danger.
