Lanny Davis, please go away
By John Amato Monday Aug 18, 2008 1:00pmYes, everybody gets to have their day in court to be proven innocent or guilty. We've also even seen OJ and Robert Blake have their day too. Are you happy now Lanny? You're defending Ted Stevens in print now?
And take Joe Lieberman with you.

Seems like C&L has been melting since yesterday when a thread disappeared. Hope it get's fixed soon, although I don't really mind the 1992 html-only look.
What is going on with this site? Was having troubles getting here and now your site looks like it still having technical troubles?
What gives?..[I believe it's being worked on-Sitemonitor]
No problems with the site, but John, please give some context for these posts. Normally your site is great about helping folks to understand the what and why when things are posted. This one is too cryptic except for the political junkies.
lanny and ted
does two turds make a pile?
Lanny Davis being a good lawyer. Take the money and screw principles.
Speaking of the little prick (lieberman), sometimes I agree with the AP who called him a prick.
Looney Davis and DICK Morris. The Laurel & Hardy of punditry.
Liberal AND Proud @ 5:
How good a lawyer can he be? His argument got ripped to shreds in the comments section, with only 3 posters.
I think she IS being a good lawyer.
We can't have it both ways -- condemn the right for manipulating public opinion with propaganda and spin, and then react the same way rightwing drones react when someone jerks our chain.
The right wing neocon facsists are NOT our role models.
as Neitzsche says: "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster."
jeez... now anyone who does not march in lockstep with the left should now "just go away?"
I wonder how the Oligarch's choose their sacrifices.
They have a name draw from a hat or just sit and say, what loyal lackey do we make an example of next?
....and take some of these closet Grandpa McOld supporters(Johnny2sad,blue(balls)sage, etc.) who come here dwelling only on negative right wing B.S. (that would give Hannity an erection) and energy constantly slamming Obama, convincing no one to follow them off their Republican designed cliff.
I said a couple of days ago that Lanny Davis, prominent Hillary surrogate and PUMA, was the NEW Ed Koch/Zell Miller/Joe Lieberman. Don't be surprised to see Davis take the stage at the Republican convention.
This should be sobering to Hillary supporters. Lanny Davis is the kind of corrupt DLC scumbag she was taking advice from - and who is responsible for sinking her campaign. It's one of the main reasons Kucinich and Edwards supporters broke for Obama.
You are right John. Go away Joe. You deserve to be stripped of all your commitees and your seat in the senate if it's possible. You have turned your back on the majority of Americans with your support for McCain and the Iraq war. Judas. I don't know how the people od CT. chose you over Lamont.
Lanny, even if he's not guilty of this, he's guilty of feeding at the public's trough. Remember the $250 million dollar "bridge to nowhere." And how much hell Stevens raised when he found out it wouldn't be funded. That town has about 500 people in it, but we've got roads and bridges crumbling in most of our major citites. Lookup Melanie Sloan and her organization. They breakdown situations that show how corrupt this clown is.
I hate to say it, but he's right. The media is all too willing to convict someone before all the evidence is in. It happened with the Duke Lacrosse Guys, Richard Jewell, etc etc. Most of the time they are guilty as sin, other times they are not. As much as I think that Stevens is a lying, unethical piece of sh*t, I must agree that he is innocent until proven guilty.
Sam Spiro @ 15:
Thats what the Media gets paid to do these days.
sciguy @ 3:
Though he has provided the link to the WT article referenced, a short contextual synopsis might've been nice. Love John- perhaps he's occupied with the recent difficulties at the site.
Nixon Watergate was the last Hurrah for the Media.
Your not going to hear a Conkrite or Brinkly on the Tube saying things like "The American banking system may not even need a shove from Russia to fall on its face. It's effectively dead now, just lurching around zombie-like from one loan "window" to the next pretending to "borrow" capital -- while handing over shreds of its moldy clothing as "collateral" to the Federal Reserve" during the 6:00 evening news these days.
Yes, Stevens is innocent until proven guilty, but Davis' examples compare nothing to Stevens' example. First, Nancy Grace is a loon. I don't care what she said; she is just not someone to give any credence to.
Second, in both the Duke Lacrosse case and the Atlanta Olympic bombings, there were no other examples of wrong doing by the defendants or people they associated with. That is not the case with Stevens...he had a relationship with Bill Allen, who plead guilty to bribery charges, including bribing Stevens' own son.
Yes, this would also be "guilt by association," so, again, Stevens is still innocent until proven guilty.....but this Stevens is also the "series of tubes" guy as well as the "bridge to nowhere" guy. He's a loon. He may be innocent until proven guilty of those 7 federal counts of failing to report gifts, but he is in my mind guilty of being a crazed, greedy Republican!
Who cares what Lanny or the moonie times has to say?
Stevens is guilty of wanting a bridge to no where, of being a cold hearted SOB when it came to Katrina's victims, of being a nut when it comes to the internet, and undoutably of having an unnatural relationship with corporations and lobyists.
Screw him.
Davis's examples are instructional:
The Duke Lacross team. Charge: Rape. Problem: Dubious witness.
Richard Jewell: Suspected of: Terrorist bombing. Problem: Evidence was flimsy circumstantial. Another guy later confessed.
Steven J. Hatfill: Suspected of: Anthrax murders. Problem: Evidence flimsy, circumstantial. Also, another guy fit the "profile" better.
In the case of Senator Ted Stevens, the evidence is quite "concrete," that is, his bribers actually renovated and added on parts to the Stevens house. No charge from them, several charges by the feds.
Is the witness dubious? No, there's a very clear paper trail, and the briber has already confessed to bribing Stevens. Could those clumsy feds have the wrong guy? Um, no. Definitely the extensive remodeling work and the giant "Viking" barbecue grille were given to Senator Stevens as free gifts in exchange for political considerations.
Is he guilty? Sure looks like it, barring last-minute heroics by a genius lawyer that convinces the jury that 1) Bribery isn't really a crime, 2) Stevens was temporarily insane when accepting the gifts and now suffers from amnesia about the event, 3) Stevens isn't Stevens, but his evil twin, 4) All that stuff was planted by the feds over several years, 5) Look, over there--it's Haley's Comet!
someguy @ 20:
Yes, consider the source. A miserable apologist for a more deeply miserable public official.
Quite a few Hillary supporters have descended into madness like Lanny since she took a hike.
Nothing particularly wrong with what he said. Stevens is presumed innocent right up until the jury foreman says: guilty. So was John Gotti.
Anybody wanna bet how many series of them 'lectrified tubes we can insert up there in ol' Steven's wasteland 'where the sun don't shine'?
Sure, Stevens is legally innocent until proven guilty, but news accounts use terms like "charges" and "allegations" for exactly that reason. They also typically include a statement from Stevens or his lawyers. Fox News Dem Lanny is picking this cause as his latest to lecture everyone? Besides him vouching for Bush's illegal surveillance program, I have to think of his op-eds before the nomination was settled - if he was gonna offer disingenuous arguments, at least make them sound marginally convincing. He didn't do his candidate any favors. Sure, Ted Stevens will have his day in court, and perhaps he'll be exonerated, but the shock in this case is that charges were brought, not the charges themselves. Some of Stevens' defenders have been arguing less for his innocence than that his offense is a paltry one. By all means, give Stevens his day in court, and if he wants to get convicted, he should hire the whip-smart Davis.
jimbo92107 @ 21:
I'd take number 2....Stevens was temporarily insane, although I'd question the use of the word "temporarily." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qbRW5p-faI&feature=related
You could not be more correct. Lanny needs to shut up. I do not need a jury to tell me what a scumbag Ted Stevens is.
I will tell you who should go away.
Obama hacks like Jack, KO, progressives, etc.. tossed a sure winner and rolled the dice on a sure loser.
Never listen to these fools.
They should go away.
Are you sick of losing?
Check out the constitution sometime. You don't get "proven innocent." You are innocent until proven guilty. I know the Bush Administration has screwed up this right. But let's not buy into it.
An establishment Democrat who is a losing shithead.
Yes, go the fuck away. You people are really running the Dem Party into the ground.
theWalrus @ 7:
No! No! No! Laurel & Hardy were funny!
Davis & Morris just suck.
Please!
If Lanny Davis is advocating doing away with the Grand Jury system, then he and I have found common purpose. I think Grand Juries are completely antithetical to a system of "Justice." Bring it out into the open. Everything. Every time.
Most all of our problems can be traced back to someone wanting to keep something a secret...

[Deleted. C'mon, Liberal AND Proud. Don't cause extra work for the team with flame bait. The three of you have been posting here a long time. Your pals above are not trolls. They're just looking at things differently. Don't call them names for that-Sitemonitor]
Douchebag Of Liberty II
If Richard Jewell were alive today, what do you suppose the odds are that he'd point to the the Senator's house in question and say, "Hey! They're doing to Sen. Stevens, just what they did to me!" ?
For that matter, how many phone calls and letters, offering support and encouragement, do you suppose Sen. Stevens has received from those wrongly accused members of the Duke Lacrosse team? "Hang in there, buddy! The truth will set you free!"
And finally, unlike Republican Labor Secretary Raymond Donovan, in this case, the 'guilty' verdict returned by the "Court of Public Opinion" is in no small part the result of the "Expert Witness Testimony" given by Sen. Stevens' very own "Reputation".
There is not a doubt in my mind that, regardless of the outcome of this "Federal" trial, and despite his best efforts, Sen. Stevens will find that his "Reputation" has remained intact and virtually unchanged.
Davis is right. Steven's is guilty until proven innocent.
Its the so-called way of justice by republicans. Good enough for us, it should be good enough for them.
Besides, ole chimpy boy still has alot of ink left in Scooter's pardon pen.
getalife "whiners" @ 29:
So, please, enlighten us as to the "winners" you've supported in the past, and share with us how well they've worked out for you. I'm sure we could all learn alot.
And by all means, take your time...
Liebermann will pay his political price.
He'll be a man without a Party and without a position.
The right wing will never accept him, no matter what Sean Hannity says, and his bridges with the left have been dynamited...by him.
lanny davis has been, imho, one of the extremely questionable people that the clintons have "encouraged."
the number of really bad "democrats" in the clinton camp is what has led me to reject hillary clinton's candidacy. lanny davis and george stephanopoulos are all you need to know about their people choosing skills.
karen marie @ 40:
Not to forget Mark Morris, Mark Penn, Robert Rubin, Howard Wolfson......
And look where Davis finds a forum: the looney Moonie Times. Sheesh. Desperate for attention much?
Udon Nomee @ 38:
President Clinton.
You know, the one you called racist.
Do you see a problem when dems call their President a racist?
I do.
Big time.
Liberal AND Proud @ 39:
Not true. His position won't change, but the reach-arounds will certainly be fewer and farther between...
getalife "whiners" @ 42:
The one I called a racist!?! So now you attack me for asking you to elaborate on your own opinion, is that it? I didn't think exposing your questionable cognitive abilities would be quite so easy.
Frankly, I'm disappointed.
As to your question, no. I don't see a problem with anyone expressing their honest opinion, nor do I call anyone a "dem". But if I did take issue with what they said, I would have the intellectual integrity to take it up with that person, regardless of their political persuasion, and I would not try to hide the fact that I was clueless by trying to attribute their comment to someone else in a transparently juvenile ad hominem attack.
But thanks for asking....
Udon Nomee @ 44:
So, you don't see a problem when the President is called a racist.
That is all you had to say.
Talk about disappointed.
getalife "whiners" @ 45:
You don't need to interpret my comment. My post represents my opinion, precisely. "I don't have a problem with anyone expressing their honest opinion."
For example, you accused me of calling Frmr. President Clinton a racist. And while that may be the opinion you expressed, it never happened, and is therefore not an an honest opinion and I certainly take issue with it.
But getting back to the subject, it seems to me that someone who hasn't supported a "winner" in over 10 years is hardly in a position to ask if others are "sick of losing".
Lanny, you're an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill.
I hope that all of these sleaze bags are sent to political Siberia when Obama becomes president -- and that includes the Clintons and all their hangers on like Carville and his lovely wife Mary Matalin, Lanny Davis, Howard Wolfson and Mark Penn. Good riddance one and all.
Sam Spiro @ 15:
The FBI have been investigating Stevens for a long time and he's got 7 charges to answer. Federal grand juries don't hand down indictments lightly (unless it's Alabama and you have federal prosecutors and judges in the pocket of Karl Rove). This isn't Alabama and Stevens is not a Democrat the politicized Justice Department would be going after for political reasons. This couldn't be a more friendly Justice Department for a Republican and they're still going after him.
I'm surprised this jackass would even bring up the subject of Bruce Ivins - that is such a bogus claim, and it's easy, isn't it, to blame a dead man for the crimes of God only knows who, so the FBI can officially close the investigation (WHAT investigation?). I swear Hoover must be lurking around the halls of the FBI for such horsesh*t to come out of there - like the good ol' days when he kept 'files' on people in order to ruin them. Bruce Ivins was no more the anthrax killer than Ted Stevens - it's a completely different issue, Mr. DumbAss.
