Keeping Your Friends Close and Your Enemies Closer?

Aside from Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney gallivanting around the Denver Metro area (hoping to pick up a couple of undecided Democrats or just to monopolize broadcast air time?  You decide) another notable non-Democrat in the Big Tent in Denver is T. Boone Pickens

About The Big Tent

The Big Tent will be the place to be for new media journalists, bloggers, reporters, and non-profit leaders covering the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer. [..]

Quite simply, for anyone concerned about fostering a path toward a prosperous, climate-friendly society, The Big Tent's agenda reads like a who's who of heroes. From Lester Brown to Van Jones to Majora Carter to ..., there are people's whose fights for a better future cannot be question and whose visions merit a hearing in the halls of power. And, come next January, they will have a more receptive audience in the Oval Office and the Executive Branch.[..]

Another sponsoring organization could raise even more concern.

The Pickens' Plan is a "Major Sponsor" and is sponsoring a lunch in The Big Tent. And, speaking within The Big Tent will be T Boone Pickens. Next Wednesday, in The Big Tent, outside the Democratic National Committee, T Boone will be on the stage with Carl Pope, the Executive Director of the Sierra Club, and John Podesta, the President and Chief Executive Office of American Progress.[..]

For those listening to The Pickens Plan, a small reminder might be in order about The Pickens' Problem which ranges from being a key (and unrepentent) funder of the Swift-Boat Veterans for Truthiness and a continuing major contributor to the Republican Party, including his most recent political contributions maxing out to Jim Inhofe who, quite simply, is perhaps the worst member of the Senate when it comes to ending our oil addiction and moving toward a sensible energy future.

So why is a guy with that kind of resume hanging with the Dems?  Get Energy Smart sees the difference between the Pickens' Plan and the Pickens Problem

T. Boone Pickens speaks to the need to end America's oil addiction, to move off oil. T Boone Pickens' political contributions speak to continuing the status quo, to drilling the hole deeper when it comes to oil addiction.

Thus, until there is a resolution of The Pickens' Problem, all are advised to tread very carefully when it comes to T Boone Pickens and The Pickens' Plan.

Josh Nelson reminds us (as if you needed it) that this is a man Democrats should be leery of praising.  Hear that Harry Reid and Dick Durbin?

Convention Excess

Kevin Taylor, of the Denver restaurant Palette, who says he is the only four-star chef in Denver, says he is booked to prepare delicacies for more than 100 "high end, hush-hush events."

"The demand is over the top, you've never seen anything like this," said chef Taylor, especially for his signature King Crab terrine appetizer with white champagne caviar.

At the Ritz Carlton Hotel, where rooms for Democratic VIP's are now going for $2,000 a night, the executive chef, Andre Jimenez, says even the room welcome gifts need to be elaborate for the 35 top donors and celebrities, including "the rarest peaches in America."

Change The Elites Can Believe In

Addiction to cars is the problem.

T. Boone....

A Fox peddling life insurance at the Hen House..."Ma'am can I take a moment of your precious time to show you...."

Glenn Beck actually went on the air today and asked people to try to burn more fossil fuels:

We are asking you to make just a few small sacrifices to completely wipe out any potential energy savings the Democrats claim credit for.... Now, how many, how many extra miles can you pledge? Can you drive five extra miles a day? Can you take the long way home, the long way to work? Can you just warm up your car? I know it’s August. Can you cool down your car? Can you get up like you do in the winter and just start your car?

Addiction to cars is the problem.

It's more than that, look around your house, everything is coated, wrapped, or sitting on oil. Those goods got to this country

with oil, then got to the store, which is made from oil, with oil. You picked it up with a car made from and fueled by oil, and

drove home on a street made from oil. You heard about the products in your house from a tv or radio made from oil powered

by coal. The coal was mined by machinery made from and powered by oil. Your clothes, your comb, your hair tie, your

hairspray, all from oil.

Think if all the oil went away tomorrow. There are no truck farms or large produce farms near St. Louis MO. My city would

starve.

hey even the oil man knows drilling isn't the answer

He may be saying that to you on those commercials, but his money is going to big drilling proponents like Imhofe.

Follow the money.

I grew up in Texas and I have this to say about T Boone Pickens: He doesn't take a p*ss unless he's making a profit from it. That's all you really need to know about Mr. Pickens.

I wouldn't trust T. Boone Pickens.

T Boone is a frickin' shyster. This entire media campaign of his
fails to express his ultimate desires.... and that is for the US
taxpayer to build the infrastructure and grid for him. Yes, he
appeals to our common senses and speaks with that adorable
accent and his name IS T Boone.... but as other respondents
have said.... he is in it for the money.... and he wants us to
foot most of the bill, if not all of the bill, for him to get it up
and running. Sure, we should provide incentives for the Pickens'
of the world to cultivate more resources, but we should not
give this guy the keys to the treasury either.

t-bone financed the attack on kerry a war hero and the most liberal democratic presidential candidate since fdr. FUCK T-BONE AND HIS TEXAS BULLSHIT GAMES. he cares little for our energy problems and should be shuned like the judas he is. we have a rich asshole here in ny trying to unseat our first term democratic congresswoman gillibrand...he also doesn't id himself as a pelican and runs endless ads about he is all about alternative energy....it's all a ruse to get in and continue the rip off of the american worker...fuck them both!

T-Bone Pickens, that's what's left when he's through.

The tent's a little too big if Pickens is under it.

Even the redneck idiots won't spend more than they need to on gas.

Pickens is dominating the commercials on MSNBC – his spots have run on the last three breaks.

I don't trust the over-the-top folksy mannerisms of this snake oil salesman. Even his name is designed to make you trust this humble oil man. Nobody spends this much of their own money unless there's a payoff down the road.

The payoff comes when he drains the Ogallala Aquifer to feed Dallas with a pipeline that just happens to follow the "green energy" wind power transmission lines. He needs the government to declare eminent domain and force landowners to allow him right of way for his power lines (and pipeline) to get the "power" to Dallas. This is not about saving the environment, it is about stealing resources from the American Midwest all the way to South Dakota and putting money in T Boone's pocket.
The other part of his plan is to burn natural gas in vehicles. Natural gas=More Carbon in the atmosphere, period. The US ships 14% of its oil production overseas. Are the oil men really concerned about getting us off of foreign oil? I don't think so.

T. Boone is a paleo-con. Most of the paleo-con folks hate the neo-cons who have destroyed the right but don't know what to do. If they were to somehow swing over to the Democrats just this once then I think the neo-cons would suffer a great defeat.
So go find a paleo-con and sit down one on one and have a good talk. Find out whats in common and go from there. The common thread is to destroy the neo-cons.
Here's something I've started to worry about. Where do the neo-cons go if McCain is the loser? I think some will take refuge and hone their skills in Canada if our current PM calls an election and gets re-elected. An election that might get called soon.
We're rooting for ya.

Wasn't the same bullshit peddled back in the 70s and mid 80s regarding the "transfer of wealth to foreign hands"? Back then they used to be a little less politically correct about it and just referred to it as "Arabs are buying out America".

What this country needs is for the government to start regulating oil companies like they used to up until 2000. That will take care of the short term problems we're facing. Then the government needs to set some standards on fuel efficiency and alternative fuel technologies for car makers to meet. If they don't comply, fine them.

But, that won't happen with these jerks in the White House, not with Cheney lining his pockets with profits from no-bid contracts and what not.

Normal taxes for oil companies, and tax breaks for alternative energy plans. No more tax breaks to the richest corporations of history. Tax breaks for start up alternative energy companies. Peace. Study Nikola Tesla in Schools.

Nah. Oil's for makin' money. Water's for fightin over.

But looks like Texas just gave T. Boone all the water without even a fight.

IT'S THE WATER and a lot more...

Old T Boone may not be completly trusted but may need to be listened to. His push for CNG is something that I believe should be, or should have been promoted by both the US government and the auto industry. CNG is used throughout the world but not this country, WHY? Honda is the only car manufacturer selling in the US, and only can be purchased in two (2) states New York, and California. What is going on here? If I'm wrong with my statistics please correct me.

Oil billionaire T. Boone Pickens is telling one thing to the American people and another to Congress.

He has repeatedly said that no government help is needed to pursue his plan to build the world’s largest wind farm. Yet he is lobbying hard for extension of the Production Tax Credit and National Renewable Energy Zones — essentially a huge tax shelter for wind industry investors and expedited eminent domain for transmission corridors.

Picken's real innovation is his well-coordinated manipulation of public perception.

It looks like he's in on Prop. 10 in California too.
