John Amato On Maliki's Demand For US Exit

I get to talk to John Amato multiple times a day, but it's easy for me to forget no matter how familiar and frequent that voice is in my ear, most other C&Lers don't know what John looks or sounds like. But luckily for all you curious C&Lers out there, Jason Linkins, HuffPo's roving reporter at the DNC, caught up with John in Denver and asked him his take on Maliki's insistence that the newly negotiated withdrawal of US troops from Iraq is a "real" withdrawal:

Iraq and the United States have agreed that all U.S. troops will leave by the end of 2011, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said on Monday, but Washington said no final deal had been reached.

"There is an agreement actually reached, reached between the two parties on a fixed date, which is the end of 2011, to end any foreign presence on Iraqi soil," Maliki said in a speech to tribal leaders in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone.

"An open time limit is not acceptable in any security deal that governs the presence of the international forces," he said.

Maliki's remarks were the most explicit statement yet that the increasingly assertive Iraqi government expects the U.S. presence to end in three years as part of a deal between Washington and Baghdad to allow them to stay beyond this year.

It seems to me that whenever one of our foreign puppets gets bossy, they end up "unemployed". Any one else think a leadership change is on the way? He'll get caught with a pallet load of "missing" money or weapons or something.

I think I saw John on tv once some time back. I can't remember what show it was on but he was sitting down being interviewed.

Joe Scarborough and David Shuster had a hell of a pissing match this morning on Morning Joe. They were talking about Maliki's demands. David began the conversation by saying to Joe, your party....... Joe went bat shit crazy at that point.

Naw he'll just be inadvertently hit by a US made and delivered "insurgent placed" roadside bomb.

If Barack Obama gets elected president, one would be wise not to bet the ranch that Obama's hawkish advisers, such as Madeline Allbright, Anthony Lake, Warren Christopher, et al, have absolutely any interest at all in telling Obama that the United States should leave Iraq to the Iraqis anytime in the near future. It should also be remembered that Obama wishes to leave a large residual force in Iraq even after his phased withdrawal finally takes place, which would amount to close to 100,000 troops in that country. It remains to be seen who is actually calling the shots in Iraq, Maliki's puppet government or the United States, regardless of whether it is under the neoconservative administration of John McCain or the neoliberal policies of Barack Obama.

Llyonnoc's picture

Maliki and his cronies must be a few pennies short of a dime to think that after we built the biggest embassy in the world, lost over four thousand American soldiers, expended hundreds of billions of dollars and are in the process of building six grand size military bases that we're going to walk away and hand the country over to Iraqis. Who the hell are these Iraqis anyway who think they can run their own country. It's now our country. We shed our blood and gave our money for it. It's time to tell Maliki to wake up and smell the exhaust of our tanks.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I don't really know what he looks like but think I saw John D'Amato on television.

John - really disappointed by the Democratic Party's picture

Bush has created a situation, and maintanes that the USA should remain in the country, where violent opposition for the occupation is obvious, yet the rulers of that country are asking that the US leave. And he can use the ruse of conditions on the ground, as a reason to remain, and defy the sovereign government of that country. And the democrats are OK with it, if you see the silence from them as acceptance.

Biden is NWO - google it.

"The speech, given at the U of Del.in 1992, was entitled "On the
Threshold of the New World Order: A Rebirth for the United Nations""

McCain is worse, don't think I'm trying to switch you over or something.

But Biden and McCain agree on ALLOT.

Obama is going to be sort of like Bush - except people will actually like him. None the less - he'll be the front.

Then like Cheny - Biden will work his magic from behind the scenes.

If NWO Biden is the best the Dam's have to offer - I'm scared to think who McCain will pick as VP. Like Rove or Kissinger - it's not looking good.

I'm stuck now - I can't see myself voting for either (although not voting for McCain was a given).

Hmmm @ 20:

Biden is NWO - google it. "The speech, given at the U of Del.in 1992, was entitled "On the Threshold of the New World Order: A Rebirth for the United Nations""

Or you can check Wikipedia.. which explains several general usages:

# New world order, period of history evidencing a dramatic change in world political thought and the balance of power
# New World Order (conspiracy theory), conspiracy theory in which a group is conspiring to rule the world via world government

Biden's usage in his speech title was the first. He is not, as you seem to imply, an adherent of the conspiracy theory. (and if you really believe he is.. well.. I'd say you're probably as far-out as the conspiracy theorists themselves)

McCain is worse, don't think I'm trying to switch you over or something.
But Biden and McCain agree on ALLOT.

Yeah well if you say so, it must be true!

Obama is going to be sort of like Bush - except people will actually like him. None the less - he'll be the front.
Then like Cheny - Biden will work his magic from behind the scenes.

Bullcrap. First off, Bush was liked. In 2000. Broken voting machines don't account for the other 99% of his votes. He was mister "compassionate conservatism" and all that. But if that's a likeness to Obama, it ends there. Bush had people pulling his strings from day one. The same old Reagan-Bush crowd. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft. Even disgraced assholes like Poindexter were brought in.

First, Biden is not pulling any strings on Obama. There wouldn't have been the speculation there was over the VP candidate if that'd been the case. Second, Obama isn't a puppet like Bush. Bush is an idiot. Obama is as well-educated and intelligent as they come. And he showed that by intentionally choosing a VP who he doesn't agree with on everything.

If NWO Biden is the best the Dam's have to offer - I'm scared to think who McCain will pick as VP. Like Rove or Kissinger - it's not looking good.

Rove is disgraced. And Kissinger way too old and is ineligible anyway - you never noticed his German accent? You'd be the only one. And Kissinger isn't a neocon. He's entirely different from McCain on foreign policy. Kissinger is an amoral criminal asshole who's willing to do almost anything if he thinks its in the USA's best interests. But that's where the similarity to neocons ends. The neocons live in ivory towers of ideology. They have no knowledge or interest in reality. Kissinger is a realist, however machiavellian.

I don't understand how Bush can disagree with Maliki. If Maliki and the Iraqis insist on a fixed date for U.S. troop withdrawals, how is it possible that Bush can say "no". What's Bush going to do, stay in Iraq when the Iraqis clearly want us out? I really don't understand what they are arguing about. Unless, Bush wants to stay in Iraq indefinitely. Not to secure Iraqi freedom, but to have permanent military bases there. This false argument about "conditions on the ground" is cover to stay there indefinitely. As long as one bomb goes off somewhere in Iraq, there will be people using that as justification for staying there.

When the Bush administration is gone and there is any pullout, then some violence flares up, the Democrats will be blamed for the damage done.
