Caroline Kennedy Punks Wolf Blitzer
By SilentPatriot Tuesday Aug 26, 2008 3:00pm
Funny moment from Monday night. Wolf Blitzer asks Team Obama VP-vetter Caroline Kennedy for some behind-the-scenes details about the process and gets a great response.

Blitzer: "But the decision formally not to go ahead and vet [Hillary Clinton], ask for the documents and interview her and all that, which is what you did with Senator Biden, Senator Bayh, and Governor Kaine, and the others..."
Kennedy: "Wow. You know an awful lot about this. Because I'm not gonna tell you anything else."
Blitzer: "Walk us through that process."
Kennedy: "No! I'm not gonna walk you through that decision. It's a confidential process."

Nice.
What a polite and wonderful way to hand the wolf man his ass. Good job and good for Caroline.
These so called reporters...damn, they are dumber'n a box o' stupid.
Wolf Blitzer is a putz. He's not trying to interview her; he's just throwing out a potentially divisive interpretation of facts he doesn't even know about, seeing if she'll take the bait so he can stir up some drama.
All "journalists" really ought to have some kind of standardized rating of their objectivity printed on their name badges, so people can see with a glance whom they can talk to and whom they should avoid.
Wolf's just propped up corporate cock sucker for CNN/RNC.... "part of the best political team on television". Democrats really need to get mean....with everybody. I don't want to sound paranoid, but it's us against them.
Her, I like.
Obly @ 4:
If that was the case, they wouldn't talk to any of them because they are not journalists. They are propagandists.
You go girl! And tell him to shave that dead squirrel off his face while you are at it!
Wolf could definitely run for mayor in the "Land of the Tiny Brain Folk." Such an airhead vacuous mouthpiece.
Sounds like the most appropriate way to stand up to Operation Mockingbird tactics. Way to go Caroline.
[Deleted. Off topic. thanks, Jon J, but it's totally unrelated to this thread. You can take it to an Open Thread if you'd like to continue the conversation. Wolfie Blitzkrieg goes down in flames like the Hindenburg. Way to go Caroline, telling this manipulative snoopy ass to MYOB.
but but but... enquiring minds want to know!!!
Only a Kennedy woman could essentially tell someone to piss off and be charming at the same time.
Wolf was baying at the moon on that one.
Love. Her!
And the funny thing is, she's been the Kennedy who has really tried to stay away from the political end of the business for so many years. But boy, she is savvy, classy, and smart. I recommend her book on the Bill of Rights ("In Our Defense") to people all the time as a great accessible overview of how revolutionary a document it really is, and how important it is to keep fighting for it.
[Deleted. Off topic. Site Monitor]
With all that Caroline Kennedy has been through in her life, a pathetic interviewer like wolf is not even a blip on her radar screen. Did he really think she would open up about the details of the vetting to him? Fat chance.
appropriate answer to an inappropriate question.........
she set the boundries and wolffie had to flex
not this time dawg....i mean wolf
Oh, SNAP! No she di-int! You go girl!
[Deleted. Off topic. Site Monitor]
Something funky going on here with the site. This particular post just disappears ever so often and the front page doesn't even show it.
Seriously, I saw it live, It was great - Blitzer is just behind is prime seriously, he would be sooo much better in the field or retired on a beach.
Go Caroline,
She gonna get my Vote, whenever, wherever !

pissed off patricia @ 22:
What gives sitemonitor? I swear I just looked at your site and it gave the latest post your "
Midday Open Thread - Who’s this “Amato” fella?Open Midday Open Thread by bluegal 12:00 p.m."----and then I just went in and out of your website to get the most current thread which I believe was at 1:30 p.m. Kindof kooky, huh?
[Deleted. Off topic. Site Monitor]
Jesus, Blitzer and the rest are nothing but gossipers who parade around telling everyone that they are legitimate news reporters. This is depressing. The manufactured riff between Obama and Hillary has MSM acting like morons. What about Iraq? Afghanistan? Health Care? Jeez, I'm getting a drink.

The problem with Wolfie is that the man is literally on screen about 20 hours a day and regardless of the situation, he continues to ask questions like a goddam android...almost never actually listening to the response...just continuing on as if his first question has been answered and leads to the next.
The back and forth above exemplifies just that.
Right On Caroline!
To Wolf: "Hey you dumbfuck it is a job interview. It is none of your damn business."
Hey, if it isn't confidential, how bout we get Cheney to tell us all how he managed to pick himself for his gig.
She is her mother's daughter. Good for her.
Blitzer really thought he was going to hold her feet to the fire with such a ridiculous question. Since the intelligence quotient dropped so dramatically with the reptiles being interviewed throughout this administration, is it any wonder. People aren't used to dignity, grace, intelligence and direct answers anymore.
Perhaps if Wold Shitzhole would have been so curious with Bush/Cheney, we wouldn't be in this war situation we are in. That is why I laugh whenever I hear "the best newsteam" bullshit line. CNN has it's head so far up the ass of the right wing evangelical movement they will never be able to pull it out.
Between Caroline and the marchers chanting "Fuck Fox News", the democrats have been show a new and effective way to handle the
liberalmainstreamcorporate media. The only question is are they smart enough or courageous enough to do it.
Heheheh, yea, that Caroline Kennedy.. Saavy savvy chic.... I had a childhood crush on her way back in the John John salute days....
Her demeanor, the way she carries herself... Yep, she has not disappointed me in the least. Just for the record, she and I are close enough in age that my crush way back when was a totally innocent puppy thing, and nothing pervy at all.. Sad that I feel I have to even quantify that, but given the times.... Anywho, way to punk out Wolfie with silk gloves Caroline... you go grrrl..... JD
I had a major case of the hots for Caroline Kennedy when I was 11 years old back in 1963. While watching her speak on Monday night I felt a twinge of that old feeling again.
It's true. You never really get over your first love.
Bless your heart Caroline.
I remember seeing little Caroline playing under the Oval Office desk. I was 10. She is still hot.
Just watch the Convention on CSPAN, unfiltered, no Wolf, no Olbermann, no Shep, just in yo face convention.
I can hear President Kennedy and Jackie up there laughing there collective asses off.
NICE !
Clearly, like her mom, she has little patience with numbskulls like Wolfie who ask ridiculous questions. Good for her.
Her Dad would've come back with a hilarious quip I'm sure, so she basically just blended the two.
Fantastic! I wish I had the graciousness of a Kennedy.
Hey Dems ... THAT is what you should be doing!
You go girl
Go Caroline! That was beautiful. I've wanted to see someone put Wolf ("Behold My Manly Stubble") Blitzer in his place for a long time. You did it with class, humor, and the most perfect smile I've just about ever seen.
Democrats with spines of steel like Caroline know how to play media hacks like Wolf. She could kill him with kindness every time.
We need more people with Caroline's cajones to deal with these so-called "journalists", like Wolfie. Way to go! And as stated by Jamie, above, just bypass the crap and watch the convention unfiltered on C-SPAN.
What part of "NO" don't you understand wolfboy? The most ''UNTRUSTED" new channel ever. CNN/HNN/BECK/ Time/Warner neocons are going down.
I wonder if Wolf felt as stupid as he looked. She tried to warn him that she would not discuss it. How refreshing!
Awesome
He should have promised not to tell anyone. It works for Barbara Bush.
She punked him? By any substantive measure, I think Wolf punked Caroline.
She was spinning, "I think [Hillary] would be on anybody's short list."
Wolf pointed out that Hillary was in fact NOT on the short list, as evidenced by the fact that the Obama campaign did not really vet her. Kennedy could not dispute that, and instead had to retreat into confidentiality, essentially confirming Blitzer's point.
Politics aside, Wolf asked a valid journalistic question. Painted into a corner and no longer unable to spin, Kennedy was forced to evade. If one values honesty and transparency, then say that SHE punked HIM is also spinning.
California just passed on casting its 400 votes! WTF?
see how easy it is?
you don't have to do "the antler dance" just because somebody asks you to.
Yo La Tengo's "Nuclear War" just came up on my Zune player while shuffling the playist of about 2000 songs.
Nice timing...
Bozo Blitzer and Airhead Anderson are so intent on causing conflict instead of just reporting conflict that they lost an opportunity to pursue a Caroline's slip of "Clinton helping Obama's administration". So, Secretary of State?
I was commenting on the US & UK war games story, sorry.
On topic: Wolf Blitzer is a fascist whore!
Good for you, Caroline.
Do we know who is doing the selection for McCain VP nominee?
Does Wolf Blitzer know? !!
you know WOOLFIE.... one day sucking up the GOP talking points to get in good with the powers
next day acting like just-the-coolest-thing-on-3-legs
an empty talking head
haha good stuff
nice
now i want dean to explain why denver is overrun with lobbyests
if obama wins, his first job needs to be removing dean, pelossi and reid from their positions of power
they are weak and will bring down his presidency in just 2 years
In the interest of intellectual honesty, if Wolf had asked the same question and a Republican had answered it the same way, I wonder what the reaction here would have been?
Non-substantive partisanship sucks ass.
I wonder who pays Blitzer for these question? Maybe he would like to by the Brooklyn Bridge I am willing to sell it to him.
"A vote for Mc Cain is a vote for the draft"
My son has a freind who is on a med cruise right now. Supposedly he's going to Afganistan, but you never know. In reality though we have at least one fleet either over there or the Indian ocean at any give time.
How about Caroline K. bitch slapping wolfboy. I've been watching CNN poormouth the Dems and take it easy on Mcain and his crew almost every night. It's about time one of these guys showed some backbone. Let's hope it continues apace.
Blitzer is a Zionist Aipac bitch tit. She should have kicked him in the balls, beat him with his chair & deported his ass to Israel.
Fuck you Blitzer.
Yes, I've had a bad day.
I think you made a good point about Wolf asking a valid question. However, It IS a confidential process, and it would be up to Caroline to answer it or not, valid question or not. By telling Wolf to stick his question up his ass, I think its obvious who punked who. To say Wolf punked anybody is crazy! Wolf gets punked, not the other way around.
Widespread @ 60:
the vetting process is confidential...just like all job interviews
i would have no prob with a repug telling wolfe to stuff it
[Deleted. Abusive. Site Monitor]
Widespread @ 49:
You better look again. Punking wolf is easy, just be honest, he's been a sycophant for gw/cheney so long, the truth stymies his thoughts processes. The most telling time for me was when cheney stared him down in an interview, if he had any gonads, he would have called him on his immaturity. If he did it to me, cheneys ears would still be ringing, because I'd box them like my grandma would have.
You go Caroline!!
Wolfie better run back to the Situation Room. Caroline slam dunked his ass into a sticky situation.
She was so polite. She has always had a good measure of civility and good manners. Its isn't everybody's right to know how Obama's Vice President nominee was selected. Like Biden or don't. is the process really that important? I'm voting for Obama, Biden is a great choice, but who votes for VP? Certainly no one in the last two elections...
CNN and MSNBC are now in the process of censoring Chuck Schumer and Udall. You really have to see the convention on CSPAN. Udderwise Wolf rules and as much as I like Olbermann, I would really rather just watch the convention. Ya know? Jut watch it on CSPAn and ya don't gott whine about the pundits no more. End of story.
Oh, here is Jean Shaheen! Cool, oh but not on CNN or MSNBC. I tink teh got some republicans cued up!
Whatever....
Wow...an honest and concise answer. I'm dumbfounded.
WTG Caroline. They have no more business knowing whether a oiji board (sp) was used, a dart board, a 100 member screening panel......kiss my ass blitz, you shill.
Thank you finally for telling these loons where to get off.
What was refreshing was her directness. No! and her confidence. I don't have to answer that question and I'm not going to.
We know what Blitz was doing...changing the subject. Trying to drive a wedge using Hillary again. It's important to know who was chosen and what they do for the ticket. The actual process can be revealed in someone's memoirs if anyone is still interested.
These news-cretins actually believe if they ask it - their question MUST be answered.
Good for Caroline for giving Asshat a dose of reality.
uncle joe mccarthy @ 65:
I agree that vetting process is confidential, but it was Kennedy who opened up that line of questioning by implying that Hillary WAS on the short list.
If you buy the ADHD group dynamics definition of the word punked (which may be its original definition), Wolf was indeed punked.
I am trying, in my own small way, to push back against that snakeoil abyss.
P.D. @ 27:
Don't you understand? This is what you get when you have a 24 hour live tv news service...or more accurately, SEVERAL 24 hour live tv news services. There is only so much "real" news out there, and since this is all ratings driven, and since most of the American viewing audience have the attention span of a gnat (and the equivalent inteligence) the people on air who do the blabbing resort to sensationalism, innuendo, uneducated opinions, and out right lying just to justify their existence on the air.
For those of you who can't remember the days before CNN, we got our news handed to us by serious journalists in conservative suits and horn-rimmed glasses in one hour blocks during dinner time every night. You got fluff (along with some real news) on the Today Show in the morning, but if you missed the national news broadcasts at night, you were screwed until the next night. The news was NOT ratings driven, and was NOT part of a giant multi-national entertainment corporation's "televised entertainment division."
People with names like Cronkite, Huntley, Brinkley, Murrow, and Sevareid gave us the facts and rarely ventured a conjecture or opinion. They had a limited bit of time to fill and did so superbly. When someone like Cronkite ventured off and actually did deliver a real opinion, the entire nation listened and took note. One of the main reasons LBJ did not seek another term in office was the fact that he knew he had lost Cronkite's support for his war in Viet Nam, and in so doing, had lost the people's support because Cronkite had spoken up in an editorial segment of the CBS Nightly News. He claimed that he did not see us winning the war in South Viet Nam. By the way, he went there firsthand and found out for himself---just like he had done in World War II. In those days people listened to, and believed in their news reporters. We knew there was an integrity there that rose above tabloid journalism and propaganda. Sadly, our news today is just that, tabloid journalism and propaganda.
Good for her. She's powerful and secure enough to tell any of these clowns to get lost. They'd attack her like mad, except she's JFK and Jackie's daughter and the only surviving member of the family, so they don't dare.
Good for Caroline. The only reason that question was asked was to perpetuate the disunity narrative, and Caroline refused to play. Aside from that, she's right - the vetting process IS confidential.
Caroline was assertive with the slimeballs. Good for her. Joe Biden is going to be even MORE assertive. I can't wait to hear it. Bring it on, Joe!
I can't imagine anyone else in politics who could pull that off without being permanently dissed by the media. It's nice to be a Kennedy. And I'm glad she exercised that power.
I was incredibly shocked by Ms. Kennedy's uppitiness. Clearly, her disrespect for Wofie is rooted in Barack Obama's intention to give this country to the Islamofascists. Now, that the Obama Campaign has drugged HRC and forced her to ask for nomination by acclamation (that even sounds like Arabic, doesn't it), they will continue to humiliate America's greatest hero ever, John McPOW, who is the choice of all former, current, and future POWs, by claiming he can't remember how many houses he owns, when, in fact, he simply doesn't care how many houses he owns.
LEAVE JOHN MCPOWWWWWWWWWWW ALONNNNNNE!!!!
Even C&L has gone junior high school.
Shoulda known.
Wow. That's what happens when you know that your name and family trumps all else. Anyone else in her position would be salivating to reveal the inner workings and have more face time on teevee.
Caroline Kennedy doesn't need it, doesn't have to pander for it, and can tell just about anyone (except maybe the Queen of England) where to shove it.
Love that.
Oh Snap!
Classy.
Widespread @ 80:
Sounds like you just started freshman year in high school, Widespread.
Is it true that all the girls give you a handy on your first day? That's what all my 7th grade pals are telling me. Is it true? Is it?
I so wanna be in high school. Like you.
Randy @ 56:
You can bet your last dollar that cons have big plans for romney. Romney is corporatist to the core, so he will be the vp. Whether he'll be a cheney and rule behind the scenes or simply take the reins if mccain doesn't make it, romney is here to stay. He's too important to the disaster capitalists, and he's always been the one they're after.
That was nice- she handled this turd like a dog poop in Central Park: out into trash, without ever touching. Good to know she has a pair, and doesn't mind to use them - SMILING!
Blitzer= BOR=Coulter=Limbaugh=Hannity, etc.
and he is a Mosad Operative
And that is how you handle such questions! Learn from Caroline. Shut them, the talking heads, up and down.
This is why i don't watch CNN. Wolf B. (burp) is an idiot and not worth wasting my time.
BAM!!!
She has the same sense of propriety and discretion as her mother. It's refreshing in this tell-all, tell-too-much era.
Wolf is not used to being around anyone who is highly educated, poised, smart, elegant and classy. Caroline was terrific--she told old Wolfie "you don't seem to know your place do you"--it was wonderful...CNN in this house has a parental lock on it as does ABC and Faux news--I am fed up with these highly paid asses that consider themselves "journalists"--they wouldn't recognize a real journalist if one bit them.
Blitzer is like someone who learns the cha cha, and can only go one speed. If he gets a partner who has moves, he gets completely thrown-off. He should have known Caroline wasn't going to give him that info.
Classic. That's how you deal with all these shitheads. I love it.
said as only C. Montgomery Burns could "E x x x x x x x c e l e n t!!"
I hope this is a portent of things to come for the Wolf-man in November.
Wolf has been a water-boy for this administration...and the Repubs.
Joanie @ 97:
Since you know what the necessary credentials are, do please enlighten us.
RickinSF @ 98:
Absolutely right, RSF.
Choosing a VP is an exercise in applied political wisdom (or in Cheney's case, power-mad self-promotion). Caroline Kennedy is a respected legal scholar and writer, an education activist of many years experience, a Democrat with connections, friendships and working relationships throughout the party, and an impeccable reputation.
Who better to serve as an impartial broker on behalf of Obama?
She should be in the Senate. Or on the federal bench, to position her for the Supreme Court.
Poor Wolf. If he is not getting put in the Darth Vader strangle hold by Dick Cheney for trying to explore the inconsistencies and hypocricy of Cheney's political stand on gay marriage and his own lesbian daughters' pregnancy then he is getting slapped around and told to shut up by the other side. He is going to need some therapy and soon. Poor little putz. (Caroline Rocks!)
Wolf loves to ask the "tell me a secret" questions. What a dork he is.
Has Caroline even taken a wrong step? The definition of class, and she is no push over wither.
WOW!!! He tries to keep mess going all of the time. I can't stand to watch him at 3PM central. I wait for Hardball at 4PM to get my daily dose. Rename "The Situation Room" to THE GOSSIP AND SHIT STARTER ROOM.
ciloisin @ 8:
Damn, WELL PUT!!! I spit out my cough drop reading this. LMAO!
Caroline was fabulous. She was as straight and to the point as always and she put old wolf in his place.
I think these folks in national media understand that they will not be running the show with a democratic administration.
I hope they will be forced to go back to giving us real investigative reporting and shut the spin machine down.
I would really like to see, for sale signs going up on all of the networks.
Caroline’s self composure and gutsy style are rare indeed; but what was even rarer is the self knowledge she showed that it was up to her - to frame the debate and not let this sniveling pie-card media whore define the nature and the course of the interview.
One has to realize then, how battered and overwhelmed so many elected Democratic public servants must have felt the last thirty years when so many times a purported simple TV panel discussion on say health care, or tax issues was reduced to a screaming session about the glorious market and how dare the Democrats hold Republicans responsible when basic conservative policy put into action failed over and over again.
Yes indeed one has to wonder how different this country would be today had her Dad and her uncle lived. Now you know why certain forces wanted her Dad and her Uncle dead.
"Kennedy class"
Andy K Jong Il @ 83:
My argument is that we should value substance over style, and that the entire notion of "punking" is juvenile, anti-rational and antithetical to informed debate. Precisely what is "high school" about my position?
Your response seems to be an attempt to "punk" me. Your juvenile, anti-rational attack only underscores my point.
Joanie @ 97:
You obviously have so little of your own that you need to record and regurgitate bile originally spewed from the gullet of Rush O'Hanitwit and his talking point parrots. Caroline is smart, personable, beautiful, articulate, well-educated, and at ease in these type of interview situations. In short, she's a (very) few years of Congressional/Executive experience away from being a powerful Presidential contender in her own right. Plus, yes, she is a Kennedy - people who sought political office because they care about people. Essentially, the diametrical antithesis of a Bush.
God, I love that woman!!! Translation: Fuck off, blitzboy!!!
Joanie @ 97:
Talk to the booty because the hand is off duty!!
SNAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good response by Caroline. She is a Kennedy and won't be pulled into the games the media plays.
SNAP..SNAP..SNAP
ciloisin @ 8:
Priceless! I'll be watching for your comments from now on.
Wolf Blitzer is such a fucking tool. Oh, wait. Are we allowed to cuss in here? Mr. Blitzer does not appear to comport himself with the professionalism incumbant on a journalist of his stature. That better?
Caliber "Hussein" @ 6:
What's not to like, she's a Kennedy!
