Barack Obama makes special guest appearance at Pepsi Center
By SilentPatriot Wednesday Aug 27, 2008 12:30pm
After Joe Biden's ferocious speech about John McCain's poor judgment on national security issues, presumptive nominee Barack Obama dropped by to thank his wife, Hillary, and Bill for all their support and rousing speeches, and promised to make tomorrow night a memorable one.

"I think the convention has gone pretty well so far. What do you think? I think Michelle Obama kicked it off pretty well, don't you think? If I'm not mistaken, Hillary Clinton rocked the house last night. And just in case you were wondering, I think President Bill Clinton reminded us of what it's like when you've got a President who puts people first. Thank you, President Clinton."

I got 2 beefs with the convention. Having to listen to Pelosi is one. Fuck her.
Second listening to Bill Clinton act like he raised workers wages and moved us toward energy independence during his term.
He did not. He was a tool of Wall Street and Rupert Murdoch's buddy.
Clinton's shit-eating grin was priceless...

I mean... The Kerry thread from today has comments... And this one sort of does...
But scrolling through the last 24 hours of threads, I see A LOT OF "NO COMMENTS".
Is there a hacker in the house?
i personally thought obama's special appearance was a
smart move on his part.

Just noticing.
Disregard comment #5... you're on it!!!
After all the talk of the Clinton's stealing the convention from Obama, it was smart of him to pop in via remote on Monday night and to show up after Biden's speech last night. Outside of Hillary's speech, it have him the final words and impression on each of the other nights of the convention. Shows who this is all about.
”I think the convention has gone pretty well so far. What do you think? I think Michelle Obama kicked it off pretty well, don’t you think? oh, come on...Clinton didn't put 'people' first.
Remember "Ending Welfare as we know it?" NAFTA? The Comm Act of '94?
He was a loyal stooge of the same corporate interests as own Obama and MShame...
how can anyone vote for mccpain at this point?
Sheeple worshiping fake defenders off the constitution who sue 3rd party candidates from getting on the ballet, voting our civil liberties away.. good times! Great show! Go Obama!
Oh, can we do the cute Hollywood thing and combine the names of Biden and Obama?
Are you voting for Joe Bama too?? or Barrack O'Biden?
this is just a test to see if the site recognizes me now.
Has this blog been hacked ?
Nicole: Yes, and it still is being hacked. Your patience is appreciated.
He's not the presumptive nominee anymore, SP :).
Well, technically not, he did win the nomination by delegates. I suppose he's still presumptive until he accepts it (tonight).
Oh well.
SITEMONITOR:
The screwup happened right after noon EST.
The email to your addresses (JA and Sitemonitors) is also BLOCKED.
The system informs: "the "To" column contains unrecognizable address" - even within gmail domain, from my gmail accounts, from ALL domains I tried to let you know.
Thank you - it means the Convention and your coverage of what was hidden is successful.
[Hmmm....I can't speak to JA's e-mail addy, but when the site was malfunctioning I was receiving and answering e-mail at the monitors' in-box. So it was working somehow or another- just not through the site, I suspect. Site Monitor]
Are our computers in any danger from what is or might be going on here?
I don't think Biden knew Obama was going to be there. You could tell Michelle knew because after Biden spoke Michelle had this big smile on her face as she anticipated the surprise for Biden.
Maybe the other friendly blogs should be warned about this hack. They might be next.
I'm surprised the politicians were not wearing Pepsi shirts or some other corporate logo.
It is amazing how transparently disingenuous TV coverage of the DNC is. It will be interesting to see how much they drool over McCain next week ...
Corporations can't vote, but they pretty much control the election process through media control, candidate financing and vote fraud (Diebold voting machines). Their "elected" henchmen have manipulated the election process in ways to numerous to count including registration requirements, purges of voter rolls, practical impediments (i.e. shortages of voting machines), absence of provisional ballots, etc., etc.

I'm hoping this will show up - 3rd attempt today.
I know this is off-topic (sorry!) but I'm in need of some quick information and I've pretty much searched the web out this morning. We're having a military funeral in our small town on Saturday and Westboro Baptist is planning on showing up. I know they've had plenty of money problems since they lost a lawsuit and in this past year they'll post a 'protest' on their little hate-filled schedule and turn out to be a no-show.
Has anyone had any recent experiences with their protests? How many of them show up and what tactics have they used in your area? I'm thinking they're a 50/50 shot for actually appearing here since they also have two other things listed on their schedule for the same day, but my brother-in-law is one of the funeral directors and he's trying to find out everything he can so he will best be able to help this family.
Thanks for anything you can tell me - if you think it will clog up this thread, post your answer in the open thread below this one and I'll keep checking there.
So...this place is getting hacked...I love the smell of fear in the enemy.
Let's hope they lose the will to fight soon. Although, a scared animal fights its hardest and most vicious when cornered and hurt.
I've watched my cat deal with shrews enough times to know that.

Gretchen the aspiring elitist @ 33:
Do you have a Harley Davidson group near you. I know at other funerals they have shown up and buzzed their motors so that the shouts and all from the protesters can't be heard by the family or those at the funeral. Better to hear motorcycles than hate language.
Just for the record, my father was a funeral director and mortician when he was alive.

rick davis: lobbyist for very lucrative firm, behind mccain's tax proposal(s)
randy scheunemann:lobbyist,PNAC fame, close ties to georgia up to very recently
all three are NEOCON/corporate guys. i didn't foget to mention charlie black you remember him a conflict could help mccain.

And no pun intended, right?
I could not resist.

We're supposed to have about 100 motorcycles there, organized by the Freedom Riders. The veterans are planning on making a human barricade around the entrances to the church. I'll be standing in there for my father; his back is acting up again and he was upset that he couldn't be there.
My brother-in-law has a pretty tough job this weekend, as you will well know!
Biden's "Freudian slip" was cute.
"George" McCain indeed.
32 Alan Stanwyk,
I couldn't make myself "Quote" that whole pile of crap by Robert Rob. Simply stated:
The Republicans like to spend money more than anyone. They just don't like to tax to raise it. And they want it for themselves, a very small select group. No one thinks we are going to a previous time. We dems get it, manufacturing jobs are gone. That doesn't mean we have to roll up the country and all take service jobs taking care of the 1% that gets wealthier and wealthier. And lets not forget that we could become the country of even greater innovation if out colleges were financed better and we had a PRO-science group governing this country. I'm tired of the select elite neo-cons fooling the stupid into painting the broader democratic party as "elites". The true elites are the neos that truly do feel that the world is there for you and that you are somehow superior to the most of us. You are merely self-centered, pointy-headed narrow-minded bitches that are afraid of what will happen to YOU if this country wakes up to neo actions. I bet you got beat up in school a lot.
And have I ever mentioned? Glen Beck is an idiot.
Read this at the NYT - seems it can be accessed w/out registration. Too long for these c&l servers under attack from the McPain kosmonauts (great name by another poster above)

Stranger in a Stadium
The nominee did not look or sound like most Americans. He spoke with flair in a flat-voweled land. He was optimism in a time of gray, a tomorrow man in a country where many felt their best days were behind them.
On top of that, he was thought to be a man without heft, a bit of a dandy.
But with one speech, Franklin Roosevelt put himself on the side of a huge majority of Americans eager to throw out a president. His voice would be that of “the forgotten man,” Roosevelt vowed on April 7, 1932, a day when he found his theme, and the Democratic Party found its agenda for the next half-century.
When Barack Obama goes before 70,000 people at Invesco Field on Thursday night, he will try to be the voice for those who also feel forgotten in the age of the global economy, among the nearly 80 percent of voters who say the nation is on the wrong track. But he’s fighting the headwinds of history. Obama is now clearly the underdog, as the weight of just how unusual his candidacy is becomes clear to voters, who truly only focus as summer ends. .."
CONT..
some very good comments - bolding is mine

If Obama doesn’t look like most americans than that’s too bad for most americans. I have been watching Obama, without quite the audacity he has, but with as much hope, ever since I read his brilliant autobiography a few years ago. When he was 35 years old he explained himself so fully and frankly that I adopted him as my and every american’s brother. So why don’t american’s understand who he is - he told us very clearly? I, by the way, am a practically unemployable woman because I am exactly his age and have moved around and changed jobs while I followed my husband’s career and raised my children. If I am too old to get work why is he too young? Now I live in Europe and I don’t understand how the Anerican presidential race could be close at all. If Obama doesn’t win (and by a landslide), I will seriously consider renouncing my citizenship. This decision is a no brainer here.

man....obama doesn't get a break..the media is putting
a lot of pressure on his acceptance speech tonight. to me
the media has been so obvious...they seem to be part of the negative framing.

I sincerely hope everything goes well and as peaceful as possible. Too bad the funeral home couldn't put a false date and time in the newspaper so the idiots from westboro would be fooled into showing up on the wrong day and at the wrong time.

That was the name of the jerk-ass character (played by Tim Matheson) in the movie "Fletch."

EYE OPENING FACTS
Senators Obama and Biden are both lawyers. Among voters, lawyers rank among the least respected and liked professions. Typically, lawyers are slightly more popular than politicians. Senators Obama and Biden have a total of seven years of private sector experience. Of the seven years, six years involve practicing law. In contrast, between them, they have spent 49 years as elected politicians. According to the National Journal, Senators Obama and Biden possess the first and third most liberal voting records in the U.S. Senate.

I've had it once when I was vacationing in Boston. I made a stop over to the Lexington/Concord area, and in a small diner ordered it when I saw it on the menu. Nastiest thing I ever tasted. I still have the empty can though as a souvenir.

Alan Stanwyck @ 54:
I figured it out the other day, I knew that name sounded familiar.
Now where am I supposed to wear my gold star?
Alan Stanwyck @ 53:
Stanwyk, come on. Obama and Biden are more liberal than Kennedy? Kucinich? Socialist Bernie Sanders?
It is to laugh to quote the National Journal around these parts. We shred their fact-free truthiness daily.
Nicole Belle @ 58:
By the way, when you need them, I want you to tell the lawyer you need to hire to defend you from whatever mischief you've gotten into that they are unworthy and not respectable. Go ahead. Everyone hates lawyers until they need them.
Even Rush Limbaugh knew where to go when he was facing charges--the ACLU he lambasted.
You guys are such hypocrites in addition to being low information voters.
And I recognized the name yesterday. If you want to be a slime bucket bigamist with a sugar momma who lies about a terminal condition to frame an innocent man and hightails it to South America, that's your choice.
The ACLU was who Oliver North hired for his defense.
Alan Stanwyck @ 53:
Oh yeah, I get my statistics from the Nation Journal. Lawyers also represent people in getting justice (well financial at least) from large corporations. I have a good lawyer and he has helped me a few times. He is paid well, but is not wealthy by any means. McCain is an old bitter man who who's life has similarity to do with mine. I do not have a wealthy wife, I do not have seven homes, er condominiums (like they don't count). He has no new answers, he will continue (at least 95% of the time) what he knows, Bush's ideas. he supported the war and supports continuing it but cannot define what victory is, no one can. He will not protect womens rights, that is the right to decide how their life will be. O.K. he was a POW. I was glad when he and other came home. BUT that doesn't give him carte blanc ability to avoid reasonable questions by playing that card. he seem a bit too desperate to me. I think Cindy wants it too much too. he's not an intellectual elite, hell I think he need to read the directions on a book of matches each time (or check with Joe Lieberman) But he is a elite in terms of wealth. He can go anywhere, do anything, buy any amount of gas, hell he can buy anything he wants ( I assume if its O.K,. with Cindy). CAN YOU? Give me a smart educated man any day.
Nicole Belle @ 58:
Nicole Belle @ 58:
I could care less that some magazine opined that Obama and Biden are the most liberal senators. Thats all merley opinion. But I think those facts are astounding....that our country could be operated by a bunch of lawyers with little or no experience in the private sector. Barack was a US Senator for 149 days before he decided to run for president. I just thought Barack's message was "CHANGE". How do you change government or a nation by people who's sole experience is being in government? I thought Obama and Biden were suppose to be people who resemble the American family? Most families I know do not spend their entire career in government.
Aren't both Obama and Biden constitutional lawyers? If we ever needed one or two constitutional lawyers more than we do now, I sure don't remember when that would have been.
What exactly is McCain? I know he went to the Naval Academy but what did he learn? Okay, besides the wrong way to land a plane.
Stanwyck,
How man "McCain" blogger points have you earned today? Working for those "you with the Candidate" pictures? What a tool.
Alan Stanwyck @ 62:
Yet you saw fit to include it into your post until I pointed out to you that intuitively you're full of it. But that's merely my opinion.
What facts?
Being a lawyer, as I said, is not inherently bad. In fact, in light of the current administration, it might be nice to have someone in office that understands the rule of law. Furthermore, Cheney had only seven years (as CEO of Halliburton) in the private sector. Why would experience in the private sector being something to look for in picking someone for the highest PUBLIC office in the country? That's some flawed logic.
So? You want random and pointless facts? George W. Bush has spent more than a year of his eight year run as President on vacation.
Change from the trainwreck we're on.
Hey genius, you just said Obama has only been in office for 149 days. He's in his 40s. He's worked in the private sector (he was a law professor and a community organizer for years). See how your criticisms sort of pretzel themselves into nothingness?
Oh well, there's an impressive standard: your anecdotal experience. Well you know what? They resemble mine. I come from a mixed race/mixed religion family. My mother had middle class roots and worked by her own merit to gain admission to an Ivy League school. My father worked in public service and I lived all over the world because of my father's work. I have an adoptive sibling, because my family believed that we had an obligation to help those less fortunate.
My brother is a community organizer. We have been taught to contribute and to be activists. We've been taught to believe that you can achieve whatever you want through hard work and determination.
I'm only sorry that hasn't been your experience.
recently i saw the video in pollclash that Joe Biden has now been officially introduced as Barack Obama's Vice Presidential selection There was so little else that his competitors could say against Obama that Biden was just grasping the obvious point of Obama's youth and newness when trying to elevate his own claim to political experience. The first clip is just sound bites under media pressure to diss one another during a loaded political debate. The other clip shows a more extensive, personal reaction, response and opinion of Obama when Joe is not touting his own cause. It's all politics but I believe the second "shirtsleeve" clip is more honest and fairminded. well you can see the video in http://pollclash.com
That's it. I want the family guy from "The Family Guy" to be president. Stewie (sp?) is already vice president.
And don't forget we had a brain dead actor as president (hint...it's not Ariel Sharon).
I am usuallypretty certain that people who, like the soi disant "Alan Stanwyck", detest lawyers have either never needed one, or when they did, were so patently guilty that representation was (deservedly) fruitless.
What the people of the USofA need in a president, more than anything else, is the steely-eyed, no-quarter, blood-thirsty, vicious devotion of a good trial lawyer to prosecute their cases for them in Congress and elsewhere.
There's nothing like the court-room to put an edge on your advocacy. The People need a good lawyer.
boosh never practiced law (although I'm sure he's played doctor)
And look how successful he's been.

At least they stopped calling him racist. A new low in dem politics.
Watching his wife's speech, he comforted the survivors of two fellow Dems that recently passed. One on each arm, hugging them when Hillary honored them.
Then he was beaming with pride and love watching his wife give the best speech of her career.
The next night he had them eating out of his hand, the best in the business.
Not only are the Clintons great Americans, they are great people with big hearts. They should be honored and not attacked and called racists.
I'll be glad when the Clinton "LOVE FEST" is over!
It's all contrived and meaningless. Obama and McCain can "promise" anything but for anyone that understands how our govt works, President has to get Congress (lowest approval in history) to get off their sorry butts and solve the issues. President does not work in a vacum. If he did, we'd have a dictator or monarch.
I don't recall either the dimwits or republi-can't making any real progress over the last 8 years.
So much for Nancy Pissedoff's pledge to make meaningful progress and work together when the dimwits took control of congress. Nada! Nothing! Zippo!
