McCain picked a woman VP? Great...it's Dukakis/Ferraro all over again.
How long before the hackers attack again?
anyone care to make a wager?
I'm still in such shock at McCain's pick for veep that I can't think clearly. WTF?
She's under some ethics investigation. Almost zip for experience. She's pro life and a member of the NRA. Did he do this just to bait Hillary supporters? Well, I don't think that a woman who is pro life and a hunter is the way to go for those women.

It really is remarkable. Diebold is going to have to go into overdrive now.
So it appears that McFraud has picked Sarah Paleface for his Veep.
Bring on the Fat Cat Socialists, AND the guillotines.
McCains pick shows to me that he will do anything to win. Even put someone a heartbeat away from the Presidency that is under investigation and has no experience. He would put this country at risk to win.
McCain "We are all Alaskins now!"
So he passes over the experienced businessman Romney for some social conservative from nearly Canada? She's some form of ethics reformer..even though she has her own scandal AND both Senators from her state are under investigation (one indicted).
I thought McCain was smart.
I love the scandal, by the way.
Get her brother-in-law fired so that he can't feed his babies.
Nice social conservative.
re: Palin VP pick: Karl Rove just now on Fox called this a big thumbs up.
Why do I think there's something fishy going on.....?
Sara is linked to Ted Stevens and Jack Abrahmoff

and she's under investigation for abuse of power! another oil drilling war profiteering neocon in the making? She's well on her way...
awesome, the neocons will be pummeled in November, and will blame it on Sarah Palin. sweet
Palin is the new republican shiny thing. Something for them to use to try to draw some interest in their convention and campaign. To some degree it's working because she is the topic on every cable news channel. Once everyone pulls over, takes a look and discovers there's no there, there, then the crowd will move on.
So the Republicans are going to run on pro gun, anti choice, revive the cold war (lets get the Russians to being the scary boogie men like the good old days), hate and fear like always.
I just saw a picture of Sarah Palin on MSNBC.
Oh.My.God.
This woman will be one step away from running the country? A self-professed hockey mom with no experience?
Huh? This is so out of left field that there must be something sinister to it.
Pro-life but she loves killing animals.
Less than 2 years as governor of Alaska and already under investigation. Graduated with a journalism/communications degree. Looks like a wannabe TV personality who conned her way into office. One cancerous mole away from the Presidency?
I think this lost the election for mcCain. If there ever was a candidate for whom the VP pick was important, it McCain. The american voters will actually have to look upon her as careful as if she was running for president. This brings another dimension to the age argument. If the the 72 to 76 year old gets ill, the country will be in the hand of a enormously inexperienced person. So while trying to attract women voters and perhaps youth, he adds weight to his greatest weakness: his age.
Sarah Palin- scandal!!!
Her administration was rocked by revelations that she and her family used the governor’s office to carry out a vendetta against a policeman who was a former brother in-law, up to firing the public safety commissioner because he wouldn’t fire the trooper.
A top wingnut radio host in the state, was huge fan, turned on the governor big-time, declaring her a one-term governor. The Republican-dominated state legislature is talking investigations.
For a state party rocked by scandal, who had seen Palin as a savior — clean and new, this abuse of power scandal has to be crushing.
she's under investigation too
McCain picks Alaska Governor Palin as VP
Reported by Chrish - Fri 10:15 AM
FOXNews.com is reporting that John McCain has chosen unknown (except to Alaskans) Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate. Palin is currently under investigation to find if she fired Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan because he refused to fire State Trooper Mike Wooten, who has divorced from her sister.

The talking heads are comparing her experience to Obama's. They are using days and years rather that actual experiences.
Nobody expects the Span...
Oh, sorry. Wrong Palin.
Regarding the Attytood link above, this was the guys quote:
Mostly, however, he touched on major issues quickly and lightly. It's an approach that may intrigue and satisfy millions of viewers just starting to tune in to the campaign seriously. The crowd at Invesco Field cheered deliriously, but Republicans almost surely will decry the lack of specifics.
WTF? Are conservatives in complete denial? Can they not trust their own eyes? Maybe Fox News (entertainment?) edited the speech?
RayC @ 15:
Like I said before, Look for a False Flag Attack in the near future.
Palin has an ongoing abuse of power scandal?
Oh, now I get it. She's a perfect Republican pick!
CNN is now reporting that it is Sarah Paleface.
And CNN never gets it wrong. /snark
Who saw McCain's selection of Sarah Palin coming? She's this cycles Dan Quayle.

Now the PUMAs have somewhere to throw away their vote. good riddance.
This is no surprise with the mcCain's "maverick" track record in this campaign. Smart and sane candidates would stay clear of any republican coming out of Alaska.
Off topic...but look at this asshole cop smashin a code pink pretestor in the face or throat...looks pretty damn bad...
http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/08/27-18
For some reason that I guess I don't understand, this choice makes me laugh. After that outstanding once in a lifetime experience of last night with Obama and that crowd of thousands cheering and so fu*king happy, McCain chooses his veep and it's a much younger woman who most people have never heard of. She will make him look older and he'll make her look younger. A lot of republicans are going to look at her and ask, does she look like a possible commander in chief in time of war? What would she do when the phone rings at 3am?
Bogie @ 22:
Hehehe....
Obviously the cons are trying to one up the Dems by choosing a woman for VIP and attempting to embarrass Obama for not choosing Hillary.
Not so sure it will work.
She hunts, eats moose hamburger, ice fishes, rides snowmobiles, and owns a float plane. Palin holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association.
Aren't those the basic qualifications for any Republican Government lackey?
I guess McCain likes his women young and beautiful so he can feel like fifty again!
Sarah Palin
*Alaska gov. for 1.5 years
*Served on Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
*She has no foreign policy experience.
*She's untested on the national political stage.
She's literally married to the oil company!
Todd Palin works for BP at an oil field on the North Slope
and the scandal
Used the governor’s office to carry out a vendetta against a policeman who was a former brother in-law, up to firing the public safety commissioner because he wouldn't’t fire the trooper.
By they way dig up her Beauty Queen photos also her modeling stuff (she was on vogue)- Celebrity anyone?

Don't get all wound up and bent out of shape over this con idiocy.
Main job for Obama and Dems now is to get ten steps ahead of the cons beginning NOW. Swiftly, and rapidly. And not let up.
It's time to stop bullshitting around.
pissed off patricia @ 3:
I think he did. I also think that she is to be more "eye candy" or a form of a "Stepford wife" type than anything else. I know that sounds harsh but if you add in her youth, beauty (I.E. she was second runner up in the 1984 Miss Alaska Beauty Pageant), lack of national political experience and others then one can easily make that conclusion. Other than her personal views she brings almost nothing to the McCain campaign and I think that is what McCain wants. He doesn't want a Mitt Romney for example outshining him on the national stage because McCain lacks in so many areas.
I doubt anyone who sincerely supported Hillary will be swayed by a woman who is pro life and likes to shoot and kill animals. None of that is Hillary's style. But that won't stop the talking heads from spinning it 16 ways from Friday. They have new angles for new speculation to talk about, which of course is really all they do.

OTOH it's hard to see what they'd expect to get out of Palin other than a blatant play for disgruntled Hillary supporters, which are a media-perpetuated myth anyway. (Seriously, did anyone see that one who tried to claim Obama was a Muslim and got cornered by Chris Matthews? Same woman showed up on the Daily Show 'PUMA panel'. If there are so many of them, why are we seeing the same faces?)

McCain picking a women, I think, is horrible for Democrats. First off there are a bunch of Clinton supporters that will vote for McCain now just because he picked her. The other problem that I haven't heard mentioned yet is that this pick is going to really handicap Biden. When they debate, Biden is going to have to tread very carefully, if he goes at her to hard then he's going to look like an ass. This pick for McCain, I believe, was purely for the purpose of bringing over Clinton voters who may well decide this election. His campaign has been exploiting the rift between the Obamanites and Clintonites for a while now, and this the extension of that.
I absolutely hate the Republican party and what they have done throughout the 20 of the last 28 years in this country, but they do know their politics.
POP, we know it wasn't McCain. He needs Joe Lieberman to help him operate a toaster.
AManWithoutAName @ 39:
Hey...there's not a damn thing wrong with any of that. I'm a liberal, and I hunt. Not a damn thing wrong with huntin...if you eat store bought meat, you can not complain about hunting.
Getting back to Obama's speech last night, I am sorry but I had to wince when he talked about coal, nuclear as part of an energy plan. I also wish he would stop trying to be overly hawkish on Afghanistan and military spending. I also hate it when they use the term affordable health care. Reducing the cost health care for a family by 10 to 15% does not make it anymore affordable. Any health care plan that includes insurance companies is doomed to be unaffordable for millions. Other than that I thought his speech was very good. I suppose it is asking to much for anyone to be elected President without ties to nuclear, coal, insurance, and military industrial complex.

Im confused too, I thought McCain had already sewn up the bitter-whiney-clinton vote.
I especially liked that idiot posting a comment on the Washington Post "voices" page saying that the slang term "Hood" referred to "Robin Hood". Yeah, too bad there are sources proving he's an idiot. Of course, a lot of the posters are talking about how Obama wants to "steal" money and give it to poor people... I guess we're not too familiar with how people become insanely rich in America....
I don't think I'd have a problem with John McCain's supporters if they didn't for the most part post unsubstantiated garbage, and then rail at the "liberal media" for not calling Obama a muslim. Unbelievable.
McCain's going to be the next president, it has been ordained somewhere. I'm voting Obama and waiting for the thud as my hope for the next president not being another lame shit like this one hits the floor. Thanks middle America, you've fucked us again. :(
pissed off patricia @ 50:
I think Obama just won the presidency......This is the most utterly retarded pick I have ever heard of!
McCain thinks he's going to get disaffected Hilary voters by simply picking someone with a vagina!
Hillary was beloved for many more reasons than the simple fact she is a woman, she proved herself on the national stage, on the international stage (no, I was not a hillary supporter....was a Barack guy since the DNC of 2004) and was tested through an amazingly tough primary process. To pick an almost beauty queen who was mayor of a small town and now governor (for the last 18 months) of one of the most corrupt states in the nation simply because she is a woman should insult the intelligence of every American.
Can't wait to see Biden shred her in the debate. Good God McCain, I knew you were stupid but REALLY?
We're going to confront . . . "an inheritance of eight years of foreign policy abuses, failures and unresolved dilemmas, and a climate of international crisis in the Caucasus, expected by Richard Cheney and others in the Bush administration to promote McCain’s election."
I don't want to see Obama in a position where he has to carry the entire weight on his shoulders for putting this country back on it's feet. I truly hope we can become something other then consumers of cheap and abundant infotainment if he does win.
As my progressive values were flushed down the toilet with obama's vote on retro-FISA, dick cheney's energy bill, biden's vote for the Iraq War, my funds have just been diverted to electing the first Republican I have ever supporter.
Dems - Women, sitdown and shutup

So long blue collar workers; the backbone of the party. Hellooooo latte sipping, arrogant IPOD lovers.

I am so disgusted; hate the only Dem President in 40 years who won 2 terms, and his progressive, woman's rights, universal healthcare, no on retro-FISA, no on Cheney's energy bill, yes to the IR (see: biden)...and this is what you get.
Congratulations former friends!

Yes there is: ice fishing. It's effing boring is what it is.
If someone like that claims to like it, it's nothing but blatant opportunism.
(in a related sidenote, the norwegian and swedish words for "ice-fishing" are also slang for "drinking". And no politician there would claim to do it anyway, even if they did mean actual ice-fishing.)
liberalNmoderation @ 58:
Got that right. As long as you eat it there's nothing wrong with hunting and fishing. You just cut out all the middle people, most of the chemicals and you get a workout to boot. I've been hunting since I was 12. First time I shot a deer my dad and grandpa taught me to give thanks to and honor the animal that just gave its life energy to sustain mine. When my daughter shot her first deer, I taught her the same thing.
I'm betting that doesn't happen in any of our corporate slaughterhouses.

Just checked in at c-span. They are waiting for Palin and McCain to make their appearance together at the Nutter Center (I'm not kidding about the name of the center) During the wait they had a bunch of little cheerleaders do cheers for McCain. Most pathetic thing I have ever seen. They were also tossing McCain t-shirts to the crowd.

I'll you one goddamn thing:
FAIR REFLECTION IS NOT EXIT POLLS!
And meanwhile, thinking our government's extreme corruption, here is CNN on the Federal prosecution of an illegal wiretapping case.
The Feds are prosecuting these people for illegally wiretapping ONE person.
It is a five year felony. Add to that whatever charges of conspiracy, ETC ETC.
The irony seems not to be registering. OUR GOVERNMENT has illegally wiretapped millions.
The administration did it, the Telecoms helped them (because they wanted the lucrative Federal contracts, let us be clear about the motivation, they pulled the plug if they didn't get paid), and the Congress, some of whom were briefed, has aided and abetted the coverup.
Obama voted with the crooks, just to recall.
The Telecoms gave the Blue Dogs quite a party in Denver. The Telecoms will certainly be in Minneapolis.

Andy @ 56:
I'm not to sure about Palin being a handicap for Joe Biden but I do agree that McCain's pick is an attempt to attract more Clinton voters to his campaign. The problem McCain faces is how Palin will be perceived by those female voters. If Palin is seen as being nothing more than a doll or arm candy with no real say or input then those independently minded female voters may just stick with Obama. McCain's VP choice may just reinforce those views many have about Republicans and how Republicans view a woman's role in politics. For McCain to pull this off and attract those Clinton voters Palin will have to be very forceful and stand her ground. If she doesn't and McCain takes the lead while she remains in the background with nothing to say then those stereotypes of Republicans will be confirmed in many minds.

Re the AP "reporter" Babington and Sara Palin
I noticed Babington used the POW card again. Pretty soon, to borrow a phrase from Joe Biden, all we’ll hear from McSame is a noun, a verb and POW when he defends his insane extreme policies or is caught in a lie like at Saddleback, or can’t remember how many homes he has or when he is denying benefits to veterans. I say he has about 4-5 times more to use the get out of POW camp card before it is void except in the corporate media. Then he’ll play the Sara Palin card that he is for women. I hope progressives note that she is under investigation as well as the Senator from Alaska, that she wants the polar bear off the endangered or threatened species act so that it WILL be extinct by 2030, that she is a global warming denier and proponent of the Alaska Gas Inducement Act that awards sweetheart deals to oil companies on state owned land under the guise of “free marketeering” when in fact the state picks who it decides will participate and give them serious funding. WTF!! Fund ExxonMobil even more when they still haven’t ponied up for the Valdez spill costs that her administration lowered?
Palin received widespread criticism for her handling of Matanuska Maid Dairy, a state owned business. When the State Dairy Board recommended closing the unprofitable business, Palin fired the board and appointed long-time Mat-Su Borough associates to run the board, including influential real estate businesswoman Kristan Cole. The new board quickly approved raising the price of milk offered by the dairy in a vain attempt to control fiscal losses, despite the fact that milk from Washington was already offered in Alaska stores for much less than Mat Maid milk.[31] In the end the dairy was forced to close and the state tried to sell the assets to pay off its debts, but no bids were received.

REFUSAL to stand up to a candidate of your own party who disses his own party's former president, votes AGAINST PROGRESSIVE VALUES retro-FISA, Cheney's energy bill, when Hillary voted against them...
THAT IS TURNING INTO THE WHAT YOU HATE!
Flushing your values down the toilet.
jesus christ..I can't believe this.
If you are a professed Democrat voting for McCain, I have some ocean front property in Florida to sell you.
The concern troll Republican operative thing is so passe'.
No true democrat wold throw their party under the bus and vote for McCain, at the most it's deceit and manipulation hard at work at the least it's childish behavior worthy of a 5 year olds tantrum, take your ball and go home, ruin it just to ruin it, I'm not happy till everyone is miserable conniption fit. I bet you people are the poeple I see in the workforce everyday, they think the business can't possibly go on without them, then they are suprised when they are fired and things go on and they are never even missed, go ahead don't vote for Barack, you never were anyway. ASSHATS! lol

Back in the 50s and 60s my dad and grandpa believed the sun rose and set on Rodale. They were a bit ahead of their times. Grandpa had been made an honorary member of the Algonquin tribe so he was really into all that stuff about honoring the life that sustained you. When I was a kid I thought they were both pretty wacky, as an adult I realize how incredibly lucky I was to have them in my life.
destardi @ 112:
dal segno al fine, bro'
destardi @ 105:
Lemme hit you with a concept that may seem foreign to you.
Democracy doesn't mean "Give me everything exactly as I want it, or I'm voting for the opposition.". It means compromise, and finding common ground.
If you want to stick to your principles, then fine. Enjoy your solitude. Meanwhile, the majority will be over here getting things done. Even if it does mean swallowing the occasional bitter pill.
destardi @ 108:
You sound like a guy whose girl dumped his ass yet he keeps calling her back to tell her he'll never call her again. Hit the fucking road already! And take your paranoid, alarmist bullshit back to red state!
Alexdem @ 116:
Ding.
is tarded
Everything the Neocons do, including this pick as McCains VIP is meant to stir hatred, resentment, and discourse and provoke the very worst in humanity.
Thats their agenda.
Do you ever notice trolls always say goodbye when they leave? It's like farting then leaving the room.
The damage is done to McCain, and the tide has turned. Republicans and Libertarians that I know (in Texas!) have decided to go with Obama. An female VP candidate ain't gonna help a broken party.
StirFry @ 121:
LOL!
But, at least it was LBH.
Anybody know when McLame is due to speak at Nutty - I mean Nutter Center. Now that is a speech I don't want to miss.
L.A. Confidential @ 35:
This is EXACTLY right. Also, they absolutely hate the Clintons and decided to seize this opportunity to throw a VP nomination in their faces.
They need youth, a Republican with a short record (so their aren't quite as many scandals to report) and a Big Oil advocate. They hit the trifecta here.
destardi @ 112:
Another point I would like to make regarding McCain's VP pick is the fact that McCain has built his entire campaign around his past military and foreign policy experience so why bring a mere novice like Palin into the fold? Maybe McCain chose her simply because he knows she will not question his foreign policy decisions at all. A VP choice like say former Gen. Colin Powell would have questioned McCain's decisions and probably would have made McCain look like a fool in the process. Palin may make McCain look more incompetent than he already is on foreign policy. I think Obama's VP pick was much wiser and adds more of a balance to the Obama campaign as a whole in comparision.
Chicken "Hussein" Little - Not! @ 123:
There's still 9998 tickets left. Mclame will be late since he's busy calling his lobbyist buddies to fill the seats.
CMINCA @ 124:
She's currently under investigation, has strong ties to Stevens and has a video out where she states that she doesn't know what the VP's job is. You see that as hitting the trifecta, curious.

Dude...that's friggin awesome!
Wednesday, August 27th Daily Show:
Jon Stewart: I don't understand why you're not bringing up video clips from the past 8 years.
Howard Dean: They'll be a lot of time for that.
Jon Stewart: When, December? What are you waiting for?
This absolutely desperate choice is nothing more than a long, deep ass lick of the religious right. Another cave in for Grandpa McMaverick.
AManWithoutAName @ 110:
HA!!!! Fuckin DUUUH!
It's Dukkakis/Ferrarro all over again! I hope Obama will be a good president.
One step away from the Presidency:
http://www.parentdish.com/photos/alaska-governor-sarah-palin/690775/
Obama is promising change through policy, not simply through the circumstances of his birth.
The McCain campaign thinks his appeal is simply visual and demographic, and therefore something they can exploit.
Wow, she's got an infant, four other kids, is the governor AND her husband works full time. Who's raising those kids? Does her day have more than 24 hours in it?
131 without the messed up block quotes:
It is believed that the choice is only Obama or McFraud, because that is what the two party DUOPOLY wants it to be believed. You, and the entire country is being sold a bill of goods.
Nowhere in the Constitution are political parties mentioned.
Obama is a decent fellow who is going to be, in fact, already has been co-opted by the power elite. It is Madison Avenue, they are good at it.
Just so as many people as possible know exactly what is going on.
Our democracy is not served by restricting the field, but by having a wider dialogue.
Let's include Nader, Barr, McKinney and any credible others that I am missing, in the debates.
McCain and Barr can go at, Nader and Obama can go at, McKinney can explain where she fits in, let us see the reality of the positions.
Let us kick Madison Avenue out of it.
When it is said that the choice is only Obama or McCain, then the vote is restricted to the Corporations, because that is the way they want it.
Chicken "Hussein" Little - Not! @ 128:
Yes I do. I was being sardonic. Lighten up. Palin has everything that is required to follow a Cheney vice-presidency. Think about it. They want a compliant puppet who is willing to do the wrong thing for "the neocon cause". She's perfect. They want offshore oil drilling, perpeptual war (no foreign policy experience required for that), continued union busting to keep labor cheap and the masses focusing only on their own survival. And if they can burn the Clintons in the process, well, that is just a bonus. This has dirty Rove written all over it.
You know what a McCain/Palin ticket looks like to me. It looks like a political version of that late night Jack Van Impe Ministries broadcast which features the Biblically knowledgable, white haired Jack Van Impe (John McCain) and the know nothing, Barbie doll looking, sidekick of a wife who simply nods in agreement with everything Van Impe says, Rexella Van Impe (Sarah Palin).
And the Cons offer:
McBush/Cheney in a Skirt
Left&Left @ 136:
There was no way McCain was going to select Romney. The one thing about the religious right is that they abhor Catholics and Mormons equally. They would have been up in arms. I'm sure Huckabee was their choice for VP.
Palin's son has Downs syndrome.
Isn't Downs caused by an extra chromosome?
Doesn't that have something to do with evolution?
How does intelligent design explain Downs syndrome?
Or is it God's gift?
Wow, Biden is going to chew her up and spit her out. That woman has a strong masochistic streak. Such pandering, truly impressive. Good thing I skipped breakfast.
Joe O. @ 144:
I would say you are spot on there. I was thinking Paul and Jan Crouch from Trinity Broadcasting's Praise the Lord Show.
Welcome back, Mike! And great subbing, Blue Gal!
I'm glad to see the AP continue to get critiqued... Now if we could only get them to drop Fournier.
