From sports reporter to sports complex builder. Only in America! Or should I say Russia?

Labor Day?

Enjoy it while you can.

I predict it will disappear as the national, end-of-summer holiday, to be replaced in 2011, for the 10th anniversary of the IXXI events, with some shithole, jingoistic, quasi-patriotic crapola piece of shit like "Patriots' Day," so that the nation might wallow eternally in the shit delivered by the chickens coming home to roost. I have speculated at some length on the matter.

The only thing worth mastering is the Art of Personal Responsibility.

Living in a Parallel Universe~Crony Capitalistic Society doesn't make that very easy.

Where are they taking these thousands of people they are evacuating from the gulf coast? Will they at some time also bring them back via the same means of transportation?

The Brad Blog stories about the vote fraud in Florida and the interview with Don Seligman about how his 2002 election was stolen are very timely.

It would appear that with his selection of a no-name, gun-toting, moose-killing, Alaska chick as his VP running mate, McCain has sealed his defeat in November .......but, not so fast if the Diebold guys are on his side.

This voting machine scandal is something the Democrats should have spent a lot of time fixing since the heist of both the 2000 and 2004 elections. And, there's probably not enough time now to do anything to prevent these fascist creeps from perpetrating another crime on the electorate.

Here in Texas they say Labor day is in honor of honest labor, according to the Dallas Morning Nudes, not Labor Unions. They totally ignore that part.

If Capitalists had their way, there probably be NO days off with pay.

Depends on whats left to go back to. If this is going to be a long term trend of Cat 4 and 5 Hurricanes slamming the gulf coast of the United States it's a major problem. Rebuilding cities and towns every year is going to be a lot of work.

So it is no longer inexplicable why gas and home oil prices have gone sky high.

It was to make drilling a primary issue in the presidential campaign for the GOP.

The GOP knows the old gay-hating, abortion-obsessed, "famiy values" memes are tiresome as central issues in the prez campaign.
And they know they need to divert attention from the economy.

So they jacked up oil prices to make it look as if Democrats are causing the energy crisis by not allowing drilling.
Dems better get off the stick and make everyone understand in simple language that drilling won't allay energy shortages for years.

The choice of Palin is smart. Hunting, making babies, fishing, sledding, oil drilling, sports.. these are red-blooded things that Murkins like. She and her family will look like real Murkins, not like slim, non-robust-looking vegetarians who want to build windmills, drive tiny cars and save the whales. The latte-drinking BMW Brie eating "elite East Coast Democrats" will now be portrayed as skinny, anemic, tiny car driving pussies who want to make pussies out of all Murkins.

But are they putting them in hotels while they wait or what. Why don't we see pictures on tv of their arrival at wherever they are taking them? I'm just curious once they are out of the public eye, what is happening to them.

The gulf coast is starting to incorporate international building standards into their codes now.
I read an article about people who are bunkering their old and new homes down there,
expensive but you get a building to come home to after a storm, or just sit it out.
Something about building cheap construction housing on a storm coast doesnt make sense.

She sacked one manager then replaced him with an appointee (incompetant, lasted all of two weeks)
then the crony got a $10,000 severance package (works out at $714 a day)

I am pissed off as hell! McShithead's choice for VP is a slap in the face for those who want to see this country heal it's many wounds. It just shows what he thinks of us. Not a fucking thing. He cares nothing for this country except what he can suck out of it for profit. And the fact that this trollop can morally justify the killing of wolves from airplanes just adds icing on the rotting cake that is the GOP.

I fervently hope we can send that c*nt back to Trailertrashville. She can get a job calling moose with that fucking voice of hers.

It is worth noting that Obama has been vetted to date by millions of primary voters, however imperfectly we might view the vetting process. Palin was vetted by no one comparably. Mr. McCain summarily decides for the GOP voters she’s proper, absent any rational measures of relevant national experience. This is [1] an insult to women, [2] an insult to the intelligence of GOP voters in general, and [3] a dangerously expedient tactic transparently executed solely for the purpose of winning the Presidency — the public good be damned.

"Unrestrained Greed".

Yeah of course greed is involved, but this is Rove's plan for swaying independent voters. Get the election away from Bush, away from the war, away from the economy and focus on "energy" and how the democrats don't want ordinary Murkins to enjoy the Murkin lifestyle because Dems like caribou, whales and water birds better than they like people. Libruls hate Murka.

Look for the GOP to make the main issue of the 2008 election season to be "energy", aka drilling as a solution to our energy crisis.

Oil drilling was not an issue before the oilmen colluded to jack up the prices. Now you can't go to any website without seeing a well-financed, well-planned ad campaign in favor of drilling. Then, all of a sudden, some nobody from Alaska is offered as VP candidate. She is big on drilling. She is going to make "energy" the main issue in the election. Energy in GOP talk = drilling.

The MSM is already picking up on this on their bobblehead shows and talking about how Palin is "strong on energy" and "energy is her strength. I don't think anyone can touch her on that." Then they showed Palin attacking Biden for voting against drilling 30 years ago. And they talked about how drilling will provide "thousands of jobs."

"Energy" is Rove's topic this election season.

The GOP will be cast as the redblooded Amurkins who hunt and eat moose, go ice fishing, race snowmobiles, have lots of kids, wrestle bears and are good Christians. The Democrats will be the wishy washy city folk who were never in the military, play tennis, drink wine, want to save the caribou instead of hunting and eating them and who want to restrain Amurkin economic growth and strength.

O.T. McCain said to Chris Wallace in an interview that the RNC might be postponed because (I paraphrase) "It would not be appropriate to have a festive occasion while a challenge in the form of a natural disaster was taking place."
The GWB/McKeating birthday cake/Katrina footage needs to be played over and over with that comment running as the audio.

Ruminations of an AK local:

Today, Palin called in to a local radio program, and bubbled, “This is so amazeen!” Then she said that her children and she had only learned of her selection the day before the announcement was made. I think of the extensive vetting process that the Democratic VP candidates went through. Evan Bayh said that he was grilled extensively about skeletons in the closet, and even whether any of his kids had a Facebook or MySpace page that might come back to haunt him.

Apparently the Republicans don’t worry about such things. With all the potential scandals and skeletons about to emerge from the Palin closet, (troopergate, babygate, bridgegate) we in Alaska are sitting here listening to the clock tick and wondering when it will all hit the fan.

But many Alaskans are just giddy over the whole thing. The local sportscaster, after reporting on the high school basketball scores, said, “You know Sarah Palin used to be a sportscaster….and she’s the Vice Presidential candidate. So, I think I wanna do that…yeah.” (eyeroll) And one woman who was interviewed said she was totally in support of Palin because, “This is really going to put Alaska on the map. Now people are going to find out what we’re really all about.”

Because this is what we’re looking for in the next Vice President. We want Alaska to be on the map. And not in that little box in the South Pacific you guys always stuff us in. This election is about Alaska’s road to legitimacy! Sar-ah Sar-ah Sar-ah! (banging head on desk and going to bed)

Y'know, maybe it'd be more efficient and culturally appropriate were we to simply outsource our presidential campaigns to Simon Cowell.

AND it will give them an excuse at the paltry display of people at the RNC. McCain can't even draw GOP leaders to the convention. This is the perfect excuse as to why he's speaking to a room of a few thousand (maybe)...unless he decides to do his acceptance speech from NOLA - mid hurricane, as it has been floated.

Lot of talking repub talking heads today saying that the second name on the ticket doesn't matter much. Okay maybe in the past that was true, but this time is way different. The candidate, if elected would be the oldest first term president ever. Who he picks to replace him if need be is damned important! And he has decided to choose someone whose only plus is that she might give him a bounce with fundies and women. Now who is putting winning an election ahead of what is best for the country?

You're mixing historical analogies. Ancient Egypt was both monarchical and theocratic (with the head of state also being a religious head).

Slavery in the American Old South was closer to feudalism in Europe, where the serfs were technically free but bound down in heavy obligations to the State and Church. Indentured servitude and tenant farming which preceded and suceeded American slavery would make the connection stronger.

Corporations of the Guilded Age with their laissez-faire and caveat emptor would be the most likely result if corporations had their way (as long as it included government corporate bail-outs.) They would pay what they actually did call "starvation wages," wages barely sufficient enough for their workers to stay alive, while working 12-14 hours a day in unsafe, unregulated conditions, with workers as young as five years old. Even the sick and elderly who had no family support were put to work in the poor houses and elderly asylums making wallets, other leather goods, various repairs, in an assembly like structure.

Women who weren't in the factories often worked from home stitching clothing, towels, tablecloths etc., with all her kids helping, including the very young, and the mother's pay was pennies per piece. I understand that in Britain, and possibly America, to save money on lighting, these women would huddle around lampposts stitching through the night.

Meanwhile the corporations, the managers, the CEO's pretended devoutness to religion; engravings were released by churches extolling hard work and ambition (usually voided), and faith in God, and preaching against the evils of alcohol and unionism. The image would be of angels caring for the tree of the "good fruit" and attempting to hew down a stunted ugly tree of the "evil fruit."

Then like the Carnegies, and the Rockefellers, when the old-boy is dying he tries to buy his way into heaven with charitable foundations and donations.

I would just like to point out the "Fiscal Conservative" principles of Gov Palin.

Alaska Budget: $6,800,000,000
Alaska Population: 683,487

Budget per Capita: $9,656

US Total State Budgets: $1,240,300,000,000
US Total State Population: 301,139,947

Budget per Capita: $4,118.68

BTW Alaskans pay $0 in income tax and $0 in state sales tax on average they pay $1,433 / yr in state and local taxes.

Who wouldn't love a Gov who gave you $9,656 in state spending and $1,200 checks for $1,433 in taxes. What will Palin's approval rankings look like if she doesn't give out 2x the goodies for 1/3rd the taxes? It must be nice living in a society where taxes on big oil can help subsides living for the masses, sure wish the US would be like that!

For some reason the thread on Hurricane Gustav won't allow my attempts at a post.

According to one article from a widely visited website the Department of Homeland Security had "a plan to electronically log and track evacuees with a bar code system." Congrats to DHS for a more efficient and digitaly clean population tracking program than arm tattoos.

"Many residents said the early stage of the evacuation was more orderly than Katrina, although a plan to electronically log and track evacuees with a bar code system failed and was aborted to keep the buses moving. Officials said information on evacuees would be taken when they reached their destinations."

**** To followup the post above...IT is said that the information will be taken at the other end - the destination point- also Red Cross is setting up a service so family members can track one another- and it should be set up on their website by tonight....

A moment to blogwhore.....I am blogging the Gustav at http://watergatesummer.blogspot.com/, and will be posting phone numbers and places to help...and also I am blogging on another Blog called "Questions" that raises Some Very pertinent questions about Palin- women know the issue I am blogging- It is listed on my blogroll.....thanks...and thanks for all the great links here...
