We didn't have time this past week to say good-bye to the MSNBC program The Verdict, which will be replaced post-RNC by Rachel Maddow. Dan Abrams signs off on his program with one last Bush League Justice on the completely un-Constitutional signing statement.

Abrams is a screamer. He screams the right stuff, but he still screams. I prefer a bit less heat and a lot more light. Rachel is capable of that. She can turn Pat "my jockey shorts are way too tight" Buchanan into a pretzel with a single sentence spoken in a normal tone of voice.
Yes there are worse than Dan, the entire news staff of CNN and the clowns over a Faux News come to mind, but I'd rather see Rachel at 9PM on MSNBC than 1AM on CNN or doing the Farm News at 4AM on Faux.

This was the best of Abrams show. The Bush Justice League. The other half was entertainment news or media crap. Rmember Edwards affair? Or the time spent on Kaylee? I can't wait for Rachel. She and Keith are the only pundits who don't make me want to vomit.
I just hope that Air America does not replace Rachel with that Gawd-Awful Drip, davd bender. Damn! that guy is the drippiest.

Dan Abrams is a good guy, plus he was born on the exact day I was. So that makes him an even better person. I hope to see him on the airwaves somewhere else soon
I know this is off topic, But I just learned that Hurricane Hanna is going to hit the mainland when McCain is going to give his speech. I thought the Dobson's of the world wanted God to smite the Democratic Conventio?. Well, they courted a flood, and now they got one.

I agree. I saw a video of her being arrested. It was unclear who she attempting to interview but regardless it appears that the authorities are terrified that those in the press such as Ms. Goodman might actually decide to exercise their constitutional rights in the [alleged] land of the free. If only those in the corporate media possessed the same tenacity and courage as Ms. Goodman. Let us see if the leaders of the two major parties, McCain and Obama, decide to finally speak out in protest against the abuses that have been occurring at the DNC and the RNC. Unfortunately, I would not bet the mortgage on this actually taking place.

I'm very sorry to see Dan Abram's program going off the air. We just finally got MSNBC too! I like Rachel Maddow a lot and this is no reflection on her. But they could have cut someone else out besides Dan Abrams--Joe Scarborough or Tweety. I guess not too many US citizens are concerned about miscarriages of justice.

About five minutes ago Free Speech TV stated that there was an unconfirmed report that Ms. Goodman had been released from jail though two other members of Free Speech TV who had also been arrested were still in custody.
Someone get McCain's spokesman on the Tee-Vee, Tucker Bounds just got spanked by Campbell Brown and was totally unprepared for this line of questioning.
She simply asked "Why is there a double standard?" in regards to Obamas supposed lack of experience versus Palin being picked for VP with even less. He said she had control of the entire AK National Guard, like she was General Patton or something. Then she asked for one example of Palin using her "executive" office as Governor to do something with their National Guard. Campbell asked "What decisions?" and Tucker started dancing again.
It was pretty ugly to see. He clearly had no answers to her questions and needs a new startegy

Do you remember a case about a young black kid in LA or Ala or some state in the south, who had sex with a young white girl both of them under age at the time. I think he was 17 and she was 15 or 16. I'm asking this because of the Palin 's daughter preg thing. This young man was sentenced to time( at least 5 years if I recall)

I'll say it again: Nobody is happier than Karl Rove that Dan is off the air. Sure, a lot of his show was fluff but he covered things nobody else did. Such as the Don Siegleman affair. Thanks to the MSNBC management, Karl has one less annoyance to worry about.
When you have folks who think and speak clearly; and back up their claims with facts, you have a quality people. Dan and Rachel both have those qualities. I will miss him, but I hope the he continues to have a high profile at NBC.

Are you kidding me?! Did anyone not hear - once again - that signing statements are the rule of law in this country?! Does anyone care? First of all, I need help understanding. Do these signing exist for the life of the law? Is it now to be used as a 'suggestion'? What about a new POTUS? Does he use these signing statements as he or she sees fit, in effect creating a absolutely arbitrary use and understanding of the law in place but now to be enforced by perhaps an even more 'whackier' individual that could occupy the Office of the President than the originator of the statement?
Am I the only one who thinks every single law should be reviewed and it's signing statements made available in a format that allows all citizens to review?

The constitution is clear that the legislative has the sole power to create law, the one exception being the VETO. Signing statements are unconstitutional.

The FISA Amendments Act of 2008, which among other provisions:
Protects telecommunications companies from lawsuits for past or future cooperation with federal law enforcement authorities.
Permits the government not to keep records of searches, and destroy existing records.
Allows eavesdropping in emergencies without court approval.
Removes requirements for detailed descriptions of the nature of information or property targeted by the surveillance.
Increases the time allowed for warrantless surveillance to continue from 48 hours to 7 days.
If the Democratic Congress and Democratic President do not take dramatic steps in the next four years to reverse these laws and stop signing statements, then UNDOUBTEDLY our democracy has been sold out by both parties. In that case Americans will have no choice except to vote for a third party.
I am not a libertarian, and I don't want to vote independent, but if it doesn't change in four years, my conscience will not allow me to support the Democrats.

I was so pissed to learn that Abrams' program was being pulled from "BSGOP" in favor of giving Rachel Mad-Cow her own program! -- Okay, my dissing on Rachel is a bit unfair; I am somewhat happy for her, although I would've much more preferred STEPHANIE MILLER :) ...My biggest problem with the decision is that they pulled down Abrams' show *COMPLETELY* -- not even so much as "reassigning/rescheduling" it! So that's what's really pissing me off! "VERDICT" was the ONLY OTHER PROGRAM on BSGOP other than OLBERMANN (with the exception of a few occasional "DATELINE" episodes) that I'd ever bother to watch regularly!
BRING DAN ABRAMS & "VERDICT" BACK, Dammit!!!!!
You will be missed Dan. This is sort of a bittersweet decision, Rachel Maddow is awesome, but so are you!! :-(
