Mike's Blog Roundup
Informed Comment: McCain, Palin and NOLA
Democurmudgeon: Have you noticed how Republicans love the idea of a Republican, like Palin , going after the major American oil companies so she could tax them?
Oliver Willis: John McCain and his roommates
Ken Silverstein: Since Obama's pastor was vetted more carefully than McCain's running mate, now seems like a good time to examine the viewpoints of Sarah Palin's two most recent pastors.
Economist's View: The Death of the Credit Card Economy
Politics in the Zeros: In Minneapolis, Federal and local thugs with badges are violating the law.

Great point about the Pastors. The double standards in the media and politics still astound me.
Death of the Credit Card Economy

(Bye Bye Bye)
The GOP breathes a sigh of relief as Gustav gives the most unpopular president and most unpopular vice president in US history and excuse to skip their convention.
Not to worry though, the blogs will be their to remind the voters McCain and the GOP are more of the same. Too bad we won't be able to count on the MSM to do the same.
Another link: Secessionist Sarah!.
Seriously, this could be big. I mean.. so much for "America first!"
Orangutan. @ 1:
If todays "Modern Media" (MSM) ruled the roost back during the Nixon Era he would have finished two full terms with full honors and we might not have ever had a Dem Presidency again.
Seriously, is this guy retarded? http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=YTYwNTA2N2I3ZmQyYjE5YmY4ZWNhNjM...
JimboSlice @ 6:
I clicked on that, but before the page loaded I'd seen 'nationalreview' in the URL and the question was answered.
Beware the American Moron Factor.
By the way, you notice that Governor jingle (snark) only invited mccain and palin down to NOLA. So even though mccain says this is not a political move (his going there) it turns out to be one by jingle act of not inviting Obama.
Would appear Gustav is not going to do enough damage for BushCo and McCain to capitalize on but bring just enough rain this Christ-o-fascist wingnut prayed for to throw a damper on the GOP convention http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohxdvio9n2Q
Ruthless People @ 3:
The MSM (TV) pretty much dominates the National Consciousness still.
Tech is a problem in it's own way. I hope we can see Tech take a quantum leap from the deepening rut of gadget worship, instant this and that to something that is actually going to be useful in solving the problems we face.
Right now I see most of this stuff as nothing more then an electronic leash or in the case of the net an easy way to not have to really get in the face of people who's faces need to be gotten into.
This is newsworthy? That's what cops do.
Cell phones for example. The biggest distraction of any gadget ever invented in mankind's history.
Some people use them responsibly but try telling some younger people "no cell phone usage during work hours we hired you to get things done not sit around all day fidgeting and playing with your cell phone. Emergency Calls only permitted.

Is Blackwater shooting up American civilians? Wouldn't doubt it.

If there is a rack of canned goods in a grocery store somewhere Gustav didn't knock over McCain surely will take care of that when he gets down there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV6gct9N1zo
Ruthless People @ 15:
.....one thing that kills me about this clip is Shopper Mom really thinks McCain is there to help her shop instead of for a photo op.
Shopper Mom: "If you could grab that and put it in the cart that would be great"
I just tuned in to CNNI and caught a glimpse of them using none other than Michael Brown (the failed ex-head of FEMA) as an expert for
opinionssnap comments on how this hurricane is being handled. How? I mean Why? I mean What, I mean Holy Crap
Whey not just get some person from the local mental facility to make comments.
' Forty Senators and 100 members of Congress visited New Orleans before he [McCain] did; he finally got there in March 2006. He voted against establishing a Congressional commission to examine the Federal, State, and local responses to Katrina in med-September 2005. He repeated that vote in 2006. He voted against allowing up to 52 weeks of unemployment benefits to people affected by the hurricane, and in 2006 voted against appropriating $109 billion in supplemental emergency funding, including $28 billion for hurricane relief.'
But he will use it to pretend he cares.
Ruthless People @ 14:
Didn't that already happen with Katrina?
FEMA was just spotted in NOLA!
xoites defends Constitution @ 20:
Solving problems or causing them?
It's early yet and the hurricane is taking coverage right now.
Dont think MSNBC and these other stations wont dig into her past. At least I know the Daily Show will.

...did they have a "Mission Accomplished" banner?
I'm sure if the levees burst Condi will go on TV and claim no one could have foreen it.
Pastor article was good, well researched
For the most part the double-standard/hypocrisy angle never works with republicans. We've been hitting them with it for years and it doesn't serve them a loss. Either we're not doing it right or it just doesn't work.
CafeenMan @ 23:
Hypocrisy must be endearing.
I turned on the weather channel last night to check the progress of Gustav and there was Anderson Cooper interviewing some government official from NO and he said that having learned the lessons well from Katrina the State and Local governments are cooperating totally with the Federal government. Its a good thing I didn't have anything heavy close to throw at the TV or I would be without a TV today. They will continue to rewrite history until their dieing breath.
L.A. Confidential @ 10:
Well, to give my perspective, as someone in the biochem line of work (although not pharma). When it comes to e.g. curing diseases, it's a lot like fixing a car. Only:
- You don't know what all the parts of the car are.
- Even if you did, you don't really know what they're supposed to do
- Even if you did, you don't really know how they're supposed to work together
- Even if you did, you don't really know which one is broken
- Even if you did, you don't really know how to fix it.
Then the owner, who has even less of a clue, comes by and tells you you're just greedy, and the real reason you haven't fixed the car is because you've conspired with the other mechanics since it's more profitable to keep charging for repairs.
It can get a bit annoying at times :)
Hey kids, guess what. It turns out that Palin's 17 year old, teenage, high school, unmarried daughter has gone and gotten herself knocked up.
mudkitty @ 27:
Well.. I guess that disproves the rumour that she gave birth last spring.. or does it? Bear with me, I'm just a guy and not entirely in on the mechanics here.. It that possible? Certainly not medically advisable. (you should wait like, a year or two in-between.. I know _that_ much)
Take a look around at the Juneau Christian Church (Palin's church) website. Firm belief in Destiny (predetermined course of events ... guess there's no point in doing anything about environmental problems, cuz it's in Dog's hands). Membership in Assemblies of God (which believes in divine healing of the sick, the Rapture, a Final Judgment of eternal punishment for non-believers). Systems of indoctrinating children and adults in anti-science, anti-progress beliefs. Scary stuff. Not especially compassionate conservatism.
More tales from the police state...

sorry about that...I thought that the server merely hiccupped, or "spam-guarded" my post.
Teach orifice-responsibility.
When these anti-First Amendment FBI/Fusion Center-coordinated raids in Minnesota are viewed in conjunction with the recent news that Attorney General Mukasey is planning on implementing new FBI guidelines in October, ones that involve allowing the FBI to investigate (and arrest) anyone without probable cause or even a reasonable suspicion of criminal activity having been committed or planned, then it is obvious that the Republicans are getting ready to try to steal another election.
For instance, just how many people (registered Democrats) getting arrested just before the November election would be necessary to swing the presidential electoral vote count to McCain and his dominionist running mate, Palin?
How many arrests in key, but close, voting districts in closely-contested electoral-heavy states would it take?
Has the evil one, Karl Rove, done "the math" again?
And would the news media be just as silent over massive arrests of people (registered Democrats) just before the November election in late October...as they have been silent over the illegal, anti-First Amendment raids in Minnesota?
Just like the old typewriter training exercise: "Now is the time for all good people to come to the aid of our country," we need "all good people," all patriotic citizens of our nation, to help stop this evil, monopolistic, neo-Fascist, lying, cheating and thieving Republican juggernaut.
(Oh, and the Daily Kos post about the crazed, dominionist running mate McCain chose is excellent reading. These crackpot religious types are like having a Fifth Column of Communists trying to take over our country. Monopolists are all the same, and whether they are religious or non-religious makes no difference. None, and I repeat, none of them are Christian. Why? Because Jesus Christ, as the New Testament shows, was not a monopolist. It was monopolist-minded folks, however, who couldn't tolerate what Jesus was teaching, so they had him silenced, executed, crucified. I'm not fooled.)
