ABC News confirms that Sarah Palin was a member of the secessionist Alaska Independence Party.

Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which since the 1970s has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United States.

And while McCain's motto -- as seen in a new TV ad -- is "Country First," the AIP's motto is the exact opposite -- "Alaska First -- Alaska Always."

Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, tells ABC News that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time.

"We are a state's rights party," Clark -- a self-employed goldminer -- tells ABC News. The AIP has "a plank that challenges the legality of the Alaskan statehood vote as illegal and in violation of United Nations charter and international law."

"Alaska First -- Alaska Always" ?????????

It's well known now that McCain wanted to choose Lieberman for his veep but he allowed himself to be pressured by the fundies to choose Palin. What does that say about his determination to do what he believes to be the right thing. If he can be swayed to go against his better judgment by a bunch of right wing fruitcakes, WTF would he do if he were president and the fundies insisted that he blow the hell out of some country just because they thought he should?

I truly think republicans have gone off the deep end. Watching Cindy and Laura yesterday at the Convention, my oldest daughter said,"My God, it's all white people!" And as I looked, she was right. The stunning thing is, we live in a diverse area. We have many cultures living here. To see the tepid response from the crowd when Laura and Cindy asked people to donate money for the victims shocked her. She said if they talked about bombing Iran, these people would be having a standing ovation. I think the Convention showed her how cold the Republicans really are.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/02/us/politics/02mother.html?hp (Women speak out about Sarah Palin)

"“How is this really going to work?” said Karen Shopoff Rooff, an independent voter, personal trainer and mother of two in Austin, Tex. “I don’t care whether she’s the mother or the father; it’s a lot to handle,” she said, adding that Ms. Palin’s lack of national experience would only make her road more difficult.

“When I first heard about Palin, I was impressed,” said Pamela Moore, a mother of two from Birmingham, Ala. But upon reading that Ms. Palin’s special-needs child was three days old when she went back to work, Ms. Moore began questioning the governor’s judgment. Partly as a result, she plans to vote for Senator Barack Obama.

But Lori Viars, a mother of two and evangelical Christian from Lebanon, Ohio, cheered the candidacy as well as the decision of both Palin women to keep their babies. “The whole family is pro-life, and they put that into practice even when it’s not easy,” Ms. Viars said. . . .

. . . . "You can juggle a BlackBerry and a breast pump in a lot of jobs, but not in the vice presidency,” said Christina Henry de Tessan, a mother of two in Portland, Ore., who supports Mr. Obama. . .

. . . Sarah Robertson, a mother of four from Kennebunk, Me., who was one of the few evangelical Christians interviewed to criticize Ms. Palin, said: “A mother of a 4-month-old infant with Down syndrome taking up full-time campaigning? Not my value set.”

. . . And upon hearing Monday that Ms. Palin had known of the pregnancy of her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, before accepting the vice-presidential slot, some wondered why she had not bypassed the offer in order to spare her daughter the scrutiny."

You don't have to be a good pilot to be a good military leader. You don't have to be good at hand-to-hand combat to be a combat arms leader.

You need to have leadership skills to be a good and effective leader. McCain is a follower. A real leader would have slammed Bush in 2000. Actually, he would have nuked Bush. Instead he bent over and took it. That's not the "leadership" we need.

You miss the point. It doesn't MATTER what the minor believes or consents to. An adult haveing sexz with a minor is rape, or at the very least , sexual assault. The law presumes that the minor is not capable of making the decision on their own as to whether it is consensual.

From Wikipedia:

Often, teenage couples engage in consensual sexual conduct as part of an intimate relationship. This may start to occur before either participant has reached the age of consent, or after one has but the other has not. In such cases, the older of the two participants is technically guilty of statutory rape. Most jurisdictions, as previously stated, consider the act itself to be prima facie evidence of guilt, as any consent between partners, even if freely given, does not meet the standard of law as it is given by a minor. The accused in these cases normally has no defense.

Legitimate questions

She was against teaching sex-ed
Believes in abstinence
Doesn't believe in birth control (even for married couples)
Now her daughter is pregnant (Pro-Life - her so called "choice" to keep it.)

Does she see it differently now? Does she still believe in not educating her daughter? Or how about safe sex?

While the Right runs away from teaching kids as saying it's promoting sex. In my opinion her Daughter was lucky that she is just pregnant.

Think about it, her daughter could have gotten a disease or AIDS. That is just scary. I don't think she's a bad mother and religion is part of her reasons but AIDS people.

I'll sat it again AIDS!

Mainly contraception in religion has to do with pregnancy (prevention or abortion), they don't believe in condoms or the pill.

but Religions from the past never predicated the AIDS epidemic. Did she even think about that?

I doubt it, since the press asks the questions.

These right wing christofascists, whom the Palins represent in full glory, have been shoving their holier than thou morality down our throats for 20 years. These hypocrites are the ones who have turned teen pregnancy, birth conrol and abstinence only from private issues into POLITICAL agendas. Now that one of these issues has slapped them back in the face, it's no longer political. We should MAKE it political. I am not in the least bit concerned about the feelings of one rich bitch. She got herself knocked up (raped), but rich mommy and racist pig daddy will pay for everything (except the abortion of course), while the hypocrites in chief who chose this tool (Dobson, Perkins, et al) will stay under the MSM radar, buried under piles of money where the MSM can't (won't) find them. All to protect the aristocracy from some Ni...(oops, there I go again) african american who is genuinely trying to lead us out of this unmitigated disaster created by the very people I mention above. Palin's children are not an issue, but the illegitimate pregnancy of her daughter IS, because of her positions on birth control, abortion and....family values.

It also speaks to her qualifications as a parent which is a direct insight into her qualifications as a nominee, her values, her beliefs, her "perspective", whether or not she is hypocritical...it speaks to naked ambition...as she obviously does not care about the impact of this nomination on her family only about her career goals, it speaks to her judgement, it speaks to who she is as a PERSON.

CafeenMan,

I strongly differ @42. Who's blaming Palins daughter for Palin herself telling a huge lie in pretending that Trig is her child? For someone that had higher aspirations, what shocking arrogance, abuse of power, bad judgment, hypocrisy and lack of character. This was one elaborate ruse they perpetrated here and don't tell me it's Sarah Palins baby. If it was she:

wouldn't have been in Texas when he water supposedly broke.

hundreds of pictures of both ladies wouldn't be mysteriously disappearing from websites

pictures that have been captured and posted wouldn't clearly show Britol Palin pregnant and Sarah clearly not.

This is an enormous, breathtaking story about power, arrogance and stupidity. They picked her, they can stew in it.

And if you want to focus on the candidate...ok...is she patriotic enough? Her membership in the Alaskan independence group creates many questions.

She is a member of the NRA. What is her position on assault weapons?

She is a so-called conservative...what is her view on the role of government? She obviously has no problem taking government money for pork projects in Alaska...is that the kind of conservative the GOP wants? What is her position on government incursion into private lives?

To see the tepid response from the crowd when Laura and Cindy asked people to donate money for the victims shocked her. Sure the Talibaptist and Evilgelicals are all excited about having a pentecostal in the VP slot and the NRA dudes like her because she likes to kill things, but they would have come out for McSame anyway... they are the blindly loyal base.

The polls show that the moderates and independents though are breaking big time for Obama!

CBS September 1st Poll:

Poll: Obama/Biden Take Eight-Point Lead

CBS) Democratic nominee Barack Obama's lead over Republican John McCain has grown after the Democratic convention, which 71 percent of Americans say they watched. Obama and his running mate Joe Biden now lead McCain and Sarah Palin 48 percent to 40 percent, according to the latest CBS News poll.

This is the first CBS News poll to include the vice presidential candidates in the horserace question.

The eight-point lead for the Democratic ticket is up from Obama’s three-point lead before the convention. But there are still a significant number of voters who have yet to firmly make up their minds.

Before the Democratic convention, McCain enjoyed a 12-point advantage with independent voters, but now Obama leads among this group 43 percent to 37 percent. Obama's lead among women has also grown to 14 points (50 percent to 36 percent), and the Democrat maintained the lead he had before the convention among voters who supported Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries.

Anyway, since you're clear that I'm wrong, please show me some examples where we've wiped republicans off the map because of their hypocrisy. Show me that and I'll stand corrected.

For example. Jeff Foley. He was on a congressional committee to protect kids, right? Then he hit on page boys. Now he's out of office. Why? Because he hit on page boys and he embarrassed himself, congress, his party and the U.S. It had nothing to do with the hypocrisy which, I agree with you, is a seriously bad offense. I'm calling it a loser not because I don't agree with you in regard to the gravity of it but because it just doesn't work.

Just now I just watched some abc channel news video on the internet ( I linked to it from the Yahoo USA news headlines)and the nice Christian women pointed out that Bristol Palin's daughter's unplanned out-of-wedlock -teen pregnancy is a good thing because it's helping cause American parents to get into communication with their teenage children about sex and birth control. I've had a change of heart now so please forgive my earlier tirade. I realize now that McCain and Palin are what the USA need. McCain's future pre-emptive wars will help Americans communicate more about the pros and cons of diplomacy. I am a changed man. I'm sorry Bristol. I hope your mother's political party will spend millions of dollars more of U.S. tax payers' money on abstainence education. ....and I hope we get all that Middle East oil. You know if the republican party kills 1/3rd of the world's population -- that would really help American's communicate more about the pros and cons or fighting wars.

Yeah, and we would not have to be faced with the problem of trying to feed and care for so many of those lesser privileged folks in Africa and other countries. SNARK

Cafee Man,

I’m sure it’s hurting McCain more than anything else. She’ll be replaced and whoever she is replaced by will probably seem like a real winner in comparison.

I thought that too, at first. Now (IMO) I think she will stay. I believe this based mostly upon the MSM handling of it thus far. They seem to be rallying to the defense of the Palin family.

Back to earlier:

I’m not the one wanting to throw a kid in jail because a black kid went to jail. The black kid going to jail was wrong. So you want to show we’re better by continuing down the exact same path?

Of course not. Don't be ridiculous.

Anyway, since you’re clear that I’m wrong, please show me some examples where we’ve wiped republicans off the map because of their hypocrisy. Show me that and I’ll stand corrected.

Tom Delay, New Gingrich.

Not clear whether you're wrong at all. Just sayin' I have emy opinions and you have yours. Hypocrisy is not a crime. My point is if someone's hypocrisy is driving national policies, that hypocrisy must be exposed as a necessity.

But - but - Johm "kowtow to the religious right and vote the Bush line over 90% of the time" McCain is a maverick!

Tom Delay's hypocrisy has been called out for years. He finally got busted doing something illegal. That's what got him. The fact that he's a moral shit-bag has been fine all along.

I don't know the circumstances with Gingrich but I would bet it's about the same thing.

I meant "pros and cons OF fighting wars" NOT 'or".
Now for my most constructive comment :
The republicans twisting of everything makes it possible that someday they could say something like that (my last sentence in message #98 above).
Even if the Iraq war turns out to obviously be a complete disaster for America in every possble way -- the repugs would say that we should be thankful to George Bush for showing us that lying a country into war is counter-productive. No matter what - The Republican Politician is always right or always doing what is good for America. One big solution to this problem is to send your friends and relatives websites and google vidoes and youtube videos about the Illuminati, The New World Order, Proof that Bush obviously knew about the WTC attacks in advance and the like. Only when most people wake up to what is happening can real positive change occur.

Ther are many politicians who have been busted. Delay's downfal (resignation) was over his ethical hypocrisy.

Just FYI, this site, like so many others such as Media Matters, is devoted to pointing out the hypocritical positions and statements made by the puritanical, uneducated, egocentric elite that call themselves compassionate conservatives. Based upon the exposure of such hypocrisy, people then act (petitions, faxes, phone calls, donations, protests). IMO MUCH political activism is predicated upon first exposing the hypocrisy of a given policy.

It doesn't seem to matter what the Rethugs do... Obama is breaking away in all the latest polls...

…Obama's numbers are well beyond the margin of error and rising fast. The Palin gambit doesn't seem to be having much effect.

After Diebold 'Premier Election Solutions' is done with the vote rigging and McReptile wins the election, Reptiles will say: polls cannot be trusted, but electronic voting machines can be.

The Republicrat/Democrats Guinea Pigs, eaten 'beaten' by the Reptiles again will say that it was that dastardly Ralph Nader's fault without ever mentioning the Reptile turned 'Libertarian' Bob Barr.

American politics is a Reptile eat Reptile sport.
