The Republican Party has lost its mind. Who is going to sign the commitment papers?

Ugh. Chucky McCheese strikes again.

I SWEAR he's just a refurbished animatronic monster from a defunk pizza restaurant chain with a bitter old man's skin stretched over it.

[brrrr]

Hold me.

Sorry folks, but these Honest McCain Campaign Posters just write themselves:

It just doesn't feel right people.

I think the Georgia/Russia proxy-war was to paint Russia in a bad light prior to the Iran attack to keep them out of it.

Wow, the Convention tonight was as silent as a tomb. However, the Lieberman speech was especially dull.

Did anyone see how everyone was shuffling around and talking while he gave his speech?

"Well, at least no Arabian horses died! Heh heh!"

Fucking sick.

E. Coli affected over 200 people in Oklahoma and killed one of them. Canada loses another ice shelf.
Lieberman plays the experience card by ironically comparing him to Bill Clinton. McCain hates
helping pregnant teens not related to his Veep. China's stocks are screwed.
Thompson hits below the belt. Thanks, Supreme Court, for the wonderful freeway and football player shootings which wouldn't have happened without your pro-gun nut verdict. Americans can no longer retire. A chemical spill in Illinois led to eight people getting sick.
GM has to recall nearly a million flammable cars. Repugs pretend to have an energy plan.

Oh, and Palin can't seem to beat the Obamamentum.

Here we go again... Attacking people for their jokes. Grow up already.

Oh, and could 15 people label me a troll please. Thanks.

Aw, you should have also posted the famous birthday cake photo.

Bush's phony "I am needed in Washington" tonight was despicable. Gustav did minimal damage to the region and yet Bush was needed tonight when 3 years ago he was cutting birthday cake with McCain.

Alaskans have to pay over $900,000

Shouldn't that say $90,000? But thanks for the info.

Nikola, I'm feeling pretty jaded tonight. Could you try a little harder?

There's always some truth in humor Nikola. I won't stoop though. You called it already.

Making jokes about horses - defending Brownie - while New Orleans is drowning, and that creepy laugh.

Just. Sick.

John McCain "doesn't like black people."

Literally.

You have to do a lot better than that. Are you capable?

katie, I agree. McWarHero sure likes to laugh about death, doesn't he. Creepy.

Off to bed, but C&L, you need to post the Sarah Pawlenty Freudian gaffe from the co-chair of the RNC...most hilarious moment of the night.

Oh? Are you a member of the Bush family?

Guess you didn't realize, they were laughing at the expense of Michael Browne who was a commissioner for a horse association, not at the people of New Orleans who lost their lives. Put the clip in context next time or you're using the same tactics as the other side.

Looks like the Christian God teaches compassion through war while the Muslim God teaches "terrorism" [/snarkity snark].

Who would Jesus bomb? Why did the Crusaders rape, maim, kill and slaughter thousands in the name of Christianity and God almighty?

Why is it, that when Bush went killing innocent people in the Middle East, he referred to it as a modern day Crusade?

What is the definition of hypocrisy?

What is the definition of ignorance?

Please note: The aforementioned questions are rhetorical in nature. That means I either know the answer already or I simply don't care.

David @ 22:

Exactly. I remember some of those jokes from that time period cropping up (The Daily Show perhaps?).
Anyway, it's humor. Grow. Up.

The party that's supposedly "pro-life" loves their guns! Go figure. Maybe it's 'cuz they're so afraid of dying for their sins. I thought someone already did that for them, but for some reason evil is always creeping on their doorstep. Go figure again.

Nikola @ 11:

Won't call you a troll, you haven't verbally licked any GOP balls on here as I can see. And normally I'd agree with you on busting over jokes. But McCain's jokes are not funny, and often cruel:

-Hee hee, horses aren't dying in NOLA, but people are!
-Bombing Iran is snappy and I can dance to it! Everybody now!
-Yeah, Hillary IS a bitch! Awesome!
-Hooah! Women like to get raped and beaten! Whoo-hoo, I'm tearing up...

American deaths. Pre-emptive war. Misogyny. I don't want my president laughing at these things like he just told a five-year-old a knock-knock joke. Sue me.

Nikola: Yeah, I was thinking that's what her legal bills would add up to eventually, I guess.

Anyway, as I was saying in yesterday's open thread before it got taken down, Palin won't win the Hillary crowd, because she's not her own person, like Hillary. And the idea that she was assertive and "charismatic" enough to campaign for President on her own, but chose to tie down her political ambitions to some old dude won't play well with that group, either. That just means she's willing to let the white males call the shots. Even when Hillary forgave Bill for cheating, she was still not the type to concede her autonomy to him like Palin would be to McCain.

NY Times: Russia President Dismisses Georgia’s Leader as a ‘Political Corpse’

MOSCOW — President Dmitri A. Medvedev of Russia said Tuesday that he no longer recognized Mikheil Saakashvili as the president of Georgia, calling him “a political corpse” in his most lacerating words to date about a government Moscow wants to force from power.

In an interview with the Italian television channel RAI, Mr. Medvedev adopted a combative tone more often associated with his predecessor, Vladimir V. Putin.

Like Mr. Putin, he speculated that the war in Georgia was intended to benefit one of the candidates in the American presidential election, almost certainly a reference to Senator John McCain. He said the United States armed Georgia and then “gave Mr. Saakashvili carte blanche for any actions, including military ones.”

Asked whether he would participate in Italian-brokered negotiations with Mr. Saakashvili, Mr. Medvedev responded sharply. “For us,” he said, “the current regime has gone bankrupt. The president, Mikheil Saakashvili, doesn’t exist for us. He is a political corpse.”

The Russian president made his comments a day after the European Union issued a statement strongly criticizing Russia for its military offensive in Georgia, but stopped short of imposing sanctions.

Russian leaders fanned out across the region for talks in neighboring countries, acting swiftly to try to consolidate Russia’s position, even as Vice President Dick Cheney left Washington on Tuesday on a trip to Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Georgia, former Soviet republics that have strong ties to the United States.

Mr. Putin, in Uzbekistan, announced an agreement to build a new natural gas pipeline to Russia from Central Asia, frustrating European and American efforts to ship oil and gas directly to the West. A Western-backed pipeline project, Nabucco, is now in doubt, as it would have to pass close to South Ossetia.

His joke and sadistic laughing at it is all the more offensive when you consider he was laughing it up with Bush having cake the day Katrina hit (on his birthday) and even more so when you consider McCain's record on Katrina

* McCain Voted Twice Against Establishing A Commission To Study The Response To Hurricane Katrina. [ 9/14/2005, 2/2/2006]
* McCain Opposed Granting Financial Relief To Those Affected By Hurricane Katrina. [9/15/2005]
* McCain Voted Against Five Months of Medicaid For Hurricane Katrina Victims. [11/3/2005]
* McCain Voted Against Emergency Funding Bill, Including $28 Billion for Hurricane Relief. [5/4/2006]

Xo, David, I think you both agree but didn't understand each other.

Nicola, we are not angry at his joke, we are angry that he had the time to laugh at a very serious thing.

Rice negotiates with terrorists.

You are wrong Nikola. I don't know who you are or where you come from, but a person's character and sense of dignity and respect are a litmus test for the presidency of the United States. Period. Making jokes about people dying, making jokes about bombing a country, making rude remarks about one's own wife, none of these cut the test for being a world leader.

Nikola @ 34

What do you mean "we have a billion better reasons to attack McCain?" This is a PERFECT example of one of those billion reasons. We should be using every last of those billion reasons to cost him votes.

If you're defending his sick sense of humor, the term "troll" may fit. If you're just saying it doesn't matter, it sure as hell does. You give these Republicans an inch and they'll take 10 miles running over your grandmother's face.

I laugh at serious things all the time. You could find psychologists to tell you I'm a monster, and others who would tell you it's a natural coping mechanism. Conclusion: you can't conclude anything about a person just from their jokes.

I am looking at the whole man and there is nothing i like. I did not like him when i first heard him speak 10 years ago and my opinion of him has only gotten worse. He is an insensitive prick. Other people's deaths are a source of humor for him, not just with this joke but his rendition of Bomb Bomb Iran was as tasteless and as evil as it gets.

You wouldn't be a troll anyway for just defending humor. You'd be a troll for taking a salient point on why McCain shouldn't be president and saying we should look the other way on it. "Concern" is a troll's best friend.

By the way, your point on the joke being about the FEMA guy is not logically sound. The first implied part of that "joke" was that Americans were failed and died, but at least the horses are ok.

You think his jokes are untouchable in his qualifications for president, go ahead. There's lots of American citizens who disagree with you and that doesn't make them wrong.

You know, you're right. There is no need to defend humor. But humor is funny. McCain's humor is not, and is pretty offensive to a large portion of the country.

I worry, because I think his health is a bit of a time bomb. Melanoma is very very deadly.

And, of course I really don't trust that the NEOCONS don't have another plan for McCain.

He was safer as a POW.

enor, I totally agree. The real ugliness has not even begun yet. Hope I'm wrong.

October surprise???

The largest Naval armada since the first gulf war was on it's way to the Gulf weeks ago...

AVID*, Holland’s military intelligence service, has pulled back from operations it was carrying out inside Iran as it believes an American led attack will go ahead within weeks according to De Telegraaf’s sources...

http://www.libertyvideos.com/2008/08/30/biggest-newspaper-in-holland-say...

Keith Olbermann reported on the false-flag event wishes of Cheney to start a war with Iran so keep an eye out for something to start the conflict...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSRnDRmGvpg

It just doesn't feel right people.

I think the Georgia/Russia proxy-war was to paint Russia in a bad light prior to the Iran attack to keep them out of it.

Thank you, thank you!

The NEOCONS are not going to give up their power so easily as to risk it to a silly election.

(I didn't used to be this paranoid, but with everything that has happened so far, their plan is not only possible, it is now very probable.)

YenehC hcaepml @ 5 and enor @ 76, this is troubling news indeed. The timing is oh so suspicious, no? I wonder what deadeye dick is up to these days.

Something's afoot.

remember what charlie black said a conflict would help the mccain campaign

I think that this plan, to throw us into a whole new war ( and larger war ) goes way beyond McCain.

McCain is not part of their plan. I know he (NOW) sounds very much like them. But, they hate him. He really is not one of them.

This horrendous scheme, this continuation of their power grab, does not include him in their master plans.

( Don't worry, I am not a McCain fan or supporter. If he wins he will prob. include that mob as part of his administration. He wants so much to be a part of them. )

they may'hate' mccain but they don't hate the 40 or so lobbyist behind him. mccain is NOT making most decisions regarding this campaignit's over his head mccain hasn't really been aligned with NEOCONs in the past but i believe he has sold out. russia is NOT backing down i think putin is calling bush's bluff. israel wants action but of course they won't sign the non-proliferation treaty. the elites/k-street doesn't have obama. there is some fear about obama not being bought.

"the comment was actually aimed at this whole C&L habit of attacking people’s humor"

Dude, I'm #8 on here. I'm the only one before your #11 that addressed McCain's sense of humor. If you weren't responding to me, who were you responding to? Since mine is the ONLY comment before yours on this particular subject, it's not too far off to think you were reacting to my comment. If you were responding to the article in general, I am in agreement with the article in general and will defend it and disagree with you, which I THINK I have the privelege of doing so on this site since you don't own it or make the rules. Telling people to "grow up already" whether it was specifically to me or generally to a bunch of people for expressing our opinions makes you A DOUCHEBAG.

So, please, be sure you should criticize free speech before you do.

Oh Jesus. I wasn't criticising free speech, I was criticising an opinion. If you're implying I'm trying to stop the discussion here, that's mighty douchebaggy of you, if I may say so. Not to mention completely false.
And I said "grow up already" merely cause I'm tired of these articles attacking McCain's jokes. It may have been out of line, but so are, IMO, these articles. Especially every week (or so it seems).

Katie, if you think I was attacking you, I realize why you must feel mad.

Not real clear you are very clear.

Inside your head, i mean.

Me, too.

I always get back to the argument that; there are people out there who will kill you for your wallet, or your shoes. It is not (to me )

inconceivable that a group of people would not lead us into some war, some false flag event so they can profit billions and billions of dollars

and basically get away with it.

Oh no, you wouldn't try to stop the discussion. That would mean you can't talk anymore, and that would be horrible, wouldn't it.

I don't have any problem disagreeing with your opinion. I have a problem with you trying to deflect ammo from McCain by telling those of us that actually want to defeat him to "grow up." If you want to stay above the fray and not get into every last thing we can throw at McCain, fine, but stay the hell out of my way while I'm doing it. If you see another post about McCain's jokes, do us all a favor and go find a stick to play with instead of whining about how bored it makes you and how wrong it is to talk about it.

The Democrats need to win this election and if you're not helping, get out of the way for those who will.

So you're trying to stop me from discussing. Well done.
And you're one of those "end justifies the means" people. Yay, consequentialism! It brought us republicans and Karl Rove:/

Will the real Nikola please stand up? I don't think she (?) wants McCain to win any more than anyone else here does.

You are so right about McCain being over his head.

Every time he talks he has that shell shocked look on his face. He is so scared to say the wrong thing because he no longer knows

who he is or what he stands for.

It is sad, pathetic and very very scary that this man could* actually be president.

(*I never believed Bush was going to win once, and never ever for a moment thought he would be re-elected / re-selected. So, I am worried the nightmare continues.)

Time to catch some zeds. Keep up the good fight, people!

He:)
It's a male name in Croatia. But yeah, I share it with some females too, I guess.
Frankly, if there are people here who think I'd like McCain as your president, they're people with whose opinion I shall not be bothered. All one needs to do is read my posts to learn my stance and my objections. Sadly, sometimes people want you to stay in line or shut up.
Anyway, thanks jane, for a discussion based on facts and logic, not personal attacks.

wow....during the (R) it's about the mccain past....POW theme.
we need to pressure mccain for his poor v.p. pick.
poor judgement by mccain
i still think we can attack her lack of experience.
i also think we can examine her husband's affiliation with this fringe alaskan political group
i think it's important not to allow the obama rhetoric to defend
palin...they say she has executive which mccain doesn't
