The only good speech tonight was from my old waterski partner -- Fire Chief Shanna Hanson. All that training helped her hold her nose just long enough to get through it.

Makes me think of the guy that sits behind me at every concert I go to that thinks the guy on stage can hear him. Only this time, they probably could.
Did anyone catch Rep. Michelle Bachmann's "speech" earlier this evening? It was classic! When the cameras showed the audience during her speech, most folks were about to fall asleep. Even funnier was a couple of times watching her say something that only she thought was clever, and then pause and look around, waiting for the crowd to break into applause. Silence. She'd squint her eyes as she looked around, as if she'd forgotten to wear her glasses or contacts.
joe lieberman makes me sick addressing himself to Democrats. He sounds like he's trying to proselytize. RNC just reeks of the nasty politics of old and we REALLY need to move on.
Maybe this is showing a media naivete. I was at my gym and they have this bank of TVs for the treadmills. One TV had CNN and the other had Faux News. It struck me funny that when the cameras went out to the audience, both had the same shots. Are CNN and Faux in that close cahoots? Or is it really standard practice to share cameras and switchboards. I mean these shots were identical, only a few seconds between them. Any insight from anyone else??
well day 2 at the old cockroach motel was about as thrilling as day 1.
it was kind of like being stuck in church on superbowl sunday.
or like being forced to work @ wal-mart on christmas.
laura delivered w/ all the panache of a sophomore thespian, the timing was f*cked up on the taped chimpy message & lieberman was about as convincing as linus hyping up the great pumpkin.
This is a truly sick spectacle. These people have absolutely nothing to offer humanity.
I just can't believe that the polls between Obama and McCain are even in the same ballpark. You would have to be a total moron to vote republican.
DNC= Obama "This election was never about me, it's about you".
What a contrast.
And fuck Lieberman. How low do you have to be to attack and smear Obama when he supported him? That was definitely a mistake on Obama's part, in more ways than one.
You'd have to be pretty bad, pretty weak to get beat by these doofuses.
Nah, you could just be running for prez in a country where the majority of voters are terribly uninformed and extremely gullible and where a political party can run it's own propaganda news station and where the rest of the media is slow to hold you accountable for anything.
please dont worry these repig farts are your future keepers at haliburton camps 1 thru 26, and old joe liberdouch is going to be your next vice president after mccain shoves pain under a bull moose and bush installs permanent martial law,
"the American people will vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin. On that day, some will eat breakfast. Others will drink water. And a random percentage of voters will vote for John McCain!"

hot damn....mc cain dated a stripper,,er, exotic dancer nick named the "flame of florida". now i'm votin' fer him fer sure. he wants to cut funding fer youth edumacation fer teen pregnancy too. might as well. it did the Palins no good. yep i is votin' repuglikan.

The political parties control the floor video feed. Logistically it's really the only thing that makes sense. Obviously when they cut to the newscasters in the boxes, the cameras are then in the control of the networks. But from the convention floor if they allowed every network that wanted to set up a camera to do so it would probably fill the hall and no one could be there to cheer.
"the American people will vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin. On that day, some will eat breakfast. Others will drink water. And a random percentage of voters will vote for John McCain!"
I don't know; I didn't watch him because I can't stand him; but I'd bet $100 that he did say that.
Tomorrow night could be an amazing moment. Can't wait for Palin to trip and fall if she dares approach policy. She's going to go on and on and on about her family. That's it.
Andrea Mitchell: Do you feel Sarah Palin is qualified to be commander-in-chief if g-d forbid, something should happen to John McCain?
Joe Lieberman: Well...you know...let's assume the best (chuckles uncomfortably). John's in great shape, he's gonna be the president and let's assume that nothing bad will happen...why should we? But if it does...yes, she'll be ready.
"the American people will vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin. On that day, some will eat breakfast. Others will drink water. And a random percentage of voters will vote for John McCain!"
I don't know; I didn't watch him because I can't stand him; but I'd bet $100 that he did say that.
I have not been able to watch or listen to him for years. I just listen to see if i hear my neighbors running and screaming to see if i should find out what he said.
"Mishandling classified materials violates Justice Department regulations, and removing them from special secure facilities without proper authorization is a misdemeanor crime."
I just spent a week in a Florida jail (before bonding out--otherwise it would have been 30 days) for a five dollar piece of crack (allegedly) found under the seat of my rental car. I'm facing felony charges, potentially losing my job and licenses over this. Yet this fucking asswipe can take home classified security documents illegally and doesn't even have to face misdemeanor charges???
GOD, THIS COUNTRY IS SO FUCKED UP!!
I refuse to turn the Rethug Convention on. Screw 'em all.

During a break on the Daily Show, I flipped to Fox and saw Brit Hume say, "Don't go away....we have the perfect person to make you wait until after the next break....Charles Krauthhammer." That guy makes me puke. He looks like a mafiosa. I wouldn't wait for him if you paid me.
Get caught with some crack and go to jail for years. Lie, steal, circumvent the constitution, and start wars and you are rewarded with wealth beyond your dreams. Great fucking country. Or rather, corporation.
Did anyone catch Holy Joe talking to Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC just now, explaining that we don't need to worry about Sarah Palin's qualifications because "let's assume nothing bad will happen"? Are these people for real? Did anyone get this for YouTube?
i am pretty sure that with the repubic approach to controlling the message, they only allowed a "pool feed" so no unsighlty of unflattering images could go out to the general public. so everyone got the same video feed. this allows for a perfect framing of that awesomely impressive backdrop.
Blue, red, left wing, right wing. It's all bullshit. The best method ever devised to divide us and rule us through cross and crown. The oligarchy lives.
It really pisses me off that a former Democratic VP candidate dares to talk at the RNC after seeing how screwed up the Democratic party is. Then again, even Clinton and Biden said they would rather see McCain be President than BO.
Considering the way the GOPS react to hurricanes, I wonder what they'll do when Ike hits. You'd think that we had a president who had some influence in those circles and see to it that no hurricanes in an election year would be named after GOP presidents. I don't want Ike to do any damage, but if it does, will John McShame's fundie friend, John Hagee, admit that his "God" acts fairly arbitrarily? I know the GOPS had some mixups in their scheduling, what with putting Dubya on a video feed. I even hear they had Sen. Larry Craig scheduled for a few words. But they couldn't get him to leave the airport men's room.

I didn't see Bush...he gives me diarrhea...but I just heard Wolf Blitzer say something about Bush referring to the "angry left." Angry? Yes, you're god damned right we're angry. Bush and his pissant administration have totally screwed up not only this country and this world.
You know, I just got religion. I'm going to pray, pray, pray for abundant diarrhea at Xcel Stadium the nest 2 days and nights. (That's hilarious, John at 86!)
It really pisses me off that a former Democratic VP candidate dares to talk at the RNC after seeing how screwed up the Democratic party is. Then again, even Clinton and Biden said they would rather see McCain be President than BO.
No they didn't. And besides that Lieberman is not a Democrat. He is a running dog lacky of the Super Rich. Are you one too?
mccain lost to g.w.bush in 2000 now all of a sudden he is the answer to everything.in 2000 bush said mccain wasn't ready same fxxking strategy.
wow fred thompson putting down the beltway crowd...
what about mccain in the social government system for 26 yrs......bullshxt fred isn't in the beltway crowd

Based on his comments on other threads he surely is a racist.
Wow...talk about a snoozefest. I had to listen to that drivel in the car and thought I might fall asleep and drive off the road. So...can somebody tell me, since I didn't get to see it on television...was that venue even full? I heard cheering by the sheep...but, it certainly didn't seem very loud.
It really pisses me off that a former Democratic VP candidate dares to talk at the RNC after seeing how screwed up the Democratic party is. Then again, even Clinton and Biden said they would rather see McCain be President than BO.
prove it!
in 2000bush defeated mccain now he's the answer. you guys had your run...now look at the economy, inflation ,the dollar, price of oil, foreclosures
"the American people will vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin. On that day, some will eat breakfast. Others will drink water. And a random percentage of voters will vote for John McCain!"
Sounds like a pretty lucid moment for him! Shouldn't he be out cutting brush?
"Don't get smart with me lady. I'm giving you a free pass. You got about as much as experience as my left nut which, by the way, I left behind in Da Nang."
I love the movie of the American flag flowing behind Joe Lieberman on that enormous blue screen as he talks. Is there a better symbol of the Republican Party than that? Virtual patriotism that looks right, but there's nothing of substance there.
POOR judgement mccain picking Sarah Palin.....she was not interviewed to wednesday and picked friday.
the (RNC) are lying.....it's mccain's poor judgement.
sarah palin is a security threat to this country.
we should NOT evaluate her about her speech.
she was governor less than two they continue to round up and compare with obama whenyou ask about her experience NOT obama's.
they're shaking the dice and we need to continue the pressure how by voicing to the media it will catch on
they know i've been watching close

Bout sums it up. Dems are going to have to learn to speak redneck.
I was braced for all kinds of spinning as I watched the convention tonight. Even with everything I read on C&L, I was still stunned at all of the lies coming out of Boehner's mouth. I saw people in the convention hall turn their backs as a Congresswoman from MN talked about helping people and just rolled my eyes in disgust as they once again trotted out the texting to donate a whole freaking $5 to the Red Cross for the second time this week. How do these people live with themselves? How much of their souls have they had to sell to remain with that party? Cops busting into homes and making preemptive arrests of people just planning to protest? I have to keep watching just to know what I'm up against, but no amount of cleansing will rid me of the ugliness I'm witnessing
Not a *single* mention of the middle class and policies to rebuild the middle class *gutted* not by government "getting out of the way" but by government actively working towards the destruction of the middle class and a new gilded age.
If the campaign is smart they will go back and revive the connection between Lieberman and McCain and Rev. John Hagee. Look into this guy a little more. HE and Pat Robertson are FAR more dangerous to America than Rev. Wright. Why? because these guys have FAR more influence on the national stage than Wright. Wright can fill a church with a couple thousand maybe. Hagee and Robertson etc. can attract 10s of thousands with their vitriol.
Why have I not heard yet when all these people vouch for Palin's and McCain's competency and qualifications that it is REALLY HARD to take seriously the recommendations of people who thought Bush was a competent choice twice.
Also in a time when our global economy will require an infusion of young people curious about math and science and armed to create the innovations to reinvigorate our AMERICAN economy the LAST thing we need is a radical creationist - anti science candidate who wants "Intelligent Design" taught in public schools right next to evolution. The more you look into these subjects the more these folks enjoy denigrating science and "pooh poohing" evidence and scientific practice as some sort of intellectual elitism. Nevermind Bill Ayers or Rev. Wright folks. THIS ideology is downright dangerous. We need curiosity, skepticism, intellectual rigor ... and yes math and science to keep America in a global leadership role. Radical creationist evangelicals represent none of this.
We tried before saying no to someone who is really smart because that was "elitist". We tried a President as a guy you would *rather* have a beer with or go hunting with.... How'd that work out?

What we have learned from The Deflect and Change the Subject Convention thus far and time alloted for each:
50% - John McCain’s was a POW
10% - Pretending Reagan was a greater president than he was then having to go back over 150 years to find a truly good Repubican president, Lincoln.
5% - Bush 41 at the convention in person being tribute to and applauded as if he was the president the last 8 years
5% - Bush 43 in Cheney’s undisclosed location via satellite feed reminding America that we wished he wasn’t president the last 8 years.
10% - Pretending Palin was not a huge mistake
5% - Reminding voters we dodged a bullet when Frederick of Hollywood wasn’t the nominee.
0% - Economic solutions
5% - Laura Bush makes a better Joker than Heath Ledger or Jack Nicholson.
10% - If you’re not a Republican you don’t put your country first
Dave Letterman has done a public service announcement just now regarding Miss Sarah Palin from the great state of Alaska.
Also he told McCain to just stop running for prez, hang it up buddy!

I found this gem on the previous string of comments to "RNC Open Thread." How perfectly said.... I've heard this before that McCain spilled the beans on some classified information while in captivity, but isn't this something to explore - especially if McCain is willing to use it as such a crutch. What a catch-22 - if McCain didn't reveal classified information, why is he alive to speak of it; if he did reveal classified information, he's a traitor and unfit for "command."
Chris Matthews just let Rep. Heather Wilson lie about Joe Lieberman being our Vice Presidential candidate FOUR years ago. She said it twice and Chris didn’t correct her. She went on about how four years ago he was our VP and now he endorsed McCain. These are our journalists? Awful.
I can't believe all the drama coming out of the RNC when it comes to fake patriotism and the fear they try to instill in all of us!! Take the blinders off and look the common folk are loosing jobs and houses! More to life than going to war and being a redneck!!
That fence straddler, traitor-turncoat Lieberman should be drop kicked to the nearest curb! How does he look in the mirror each morning and where is the ventriliquist? Flip-flopper..i am democratic er independant er republican..i stand for NOTHING!
Hey! Hey, Hulk! I saw McBomination eyeballing Betty Ross's butt! No really! Then he pinched it! Then...oh, I don't know if I should tell you this....then he said that he, "...is the strongest one there is!!!" I swear! I wouldn't lie to you about this, Hulk!

Hey everyone. Yes, the GOP convention is pretty pathetic but there are ways to enjoy it. First of all, what better way to play a "find the black guy" version of Where's Waldo? For tomorrow night, play a little GOP drinking game. How about a drink for every time Romney mentions Reagan? Take a drink every time Sarah Palin's voice sounds like nails across a blackboard. Take a drink every time Rudy (I assume he goes tomorrow night) mentions 9-11--hey it's only alcohol poisoning; just deal!

If I were the suspicious type, I'd wonder if the whole conversation about her preggers daughter is a convenient shield to keep us distracted while they scramble around and try to figure out what to do about Troopergate, The Bridge to Nowhere, and what kind of pill cocktail to prescribe for that screaming sound that nearly every republican in the United States has had bouncing around in their skulls since, oh I dunno, around Friday morning.
Is there anyone out there posting anything about Obama lately? I think we've fallen into the GOP trap of talking about nothing but McCain's idiotic pick for Veep.
Here's Obama speaking on the need for rebuilding cities. He understands what it will take to rebuild our flailing economy. This man oozes leadership, knowledge and understanding in every syllable.
Here's Obama speaking in Milwaukee. Some is a repeat from his acceptance speech, but listen to what he has to say about unions and America. It is something we need to never forget.
And in case you need reminding of how terrifying it could be should McCain get elected, watch this!
How about we start spreading some Obama love again? I have had enough of Palin to last me until she drops out. This election is too important to let someone who is clearly unable to not just lead but make any kind of important decisions surrounding US take this election.
GoBama/Biden 08!
Sweet Home AlObama!
BaRack the Vote!
Americablog questions the GOP determination to not just overturn Roe v. Wade, but Griswold v. Connecticut. Women, how would you like to go back to the day when you could not get contraceptives? We never hear of the Griswald decision. Wake up, ladies!

"..Astonishingly, some people are trying to claim that Sarah Palin's nomination is another breakthrough for women. In fact, it's an insult to women. It's a triumph of marketing, not governing. The message it sends is that after all these years of so-called equality, tokenism still trumps ability and experience. If Sarah's name had been Stan, she never would have got the
nod..."
"..."I think she is the most inexperienced person on a major-party ticket in modern history," says presidential historian Matthew Dallek. That includes the hopelessly incompetent Spiro Agnew (who was governor of Maryland for two years) and the hilariously clueless Dan Quayle (who couldn't spell "potato"). Nobody knows her views on foreign policy, because she doesn't have any. Let's hope no one asks her a trick question, like how to find Ahmadinejad on a map.
Even so, some Republicans are gamely trying to defend her. As Cindy McCain said the other day, "Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia. So, it's not as if she doesn't understand what's at stake here."
Why is John McCain so mesmerized by dishy younger babes? When he met Cindy (she was 24, he was 41), he fell in love at first sight. The same went for Sarah. He met her once, and now swears he's her soul mate. Unfortunately, this appears to be true. They're both mavericks with itchy
trigger fingers, only she shoots moose.
The choice of Sarah Palin demolishes Mr. McCain's most promising campaign theme - that Barack Obama is too inexperienced and too risky a choice in a dangerous world. It also demolishes the picture of Mr. McCain as a seasoned man of judgment. Now we know the really risky choice is him. He's so impulsive that he makes decisions with his gut, not his head.
He's so reckless that he's willing to gamble his own country in order to gain electoral advantage.
As for Ms. Palin, she didn't seem to think too hard about the humiliation in store for her daughter. Such a little thing, when your country needs you. .."

Shame on John McCain and Sarah Palin for exploiting a pregnant teenage girl for political gain. What kind of people are they?
well day 2 at the old cockroach motel was about as thrilling as day 1.
it was kind of like being stuck in church on superbowl sunday.
or like being forced to work @ wal-mart on christmas.
laura delivered w/ all the panache of a sophomore thespian, the timing was f*cked up on the taped chimpy message & lieberman was about as convincing as linus hyping up the great pumpkin.

I just can't believe that the polls between Obama and McCain are even in the same ballpark. You would have to be a total moron to vote republican.
I refused to listen to the bullshit but read enough comments on the other thread to have got the gist.
RNC= McCain...hero..POW...Maverick...McCain...POW...hero....tortured...POW...War Hero
DNC= Obama "This election was never about me, it's about you".
What a contrast.
And fuck Lieberman. How low do you have to be to attack and smear Obama when he supported him? That was definitely a mistake on Obama's part, in more ways than one.
Another NY Times headline:

The political parties control the floor video feed. Logistically it's really the only thing that makes sense. Obviously when they cut to the newscasters in the boxes, the cameras are then in the control of the networks. But from the convention floor if they allowed every network that wanted to set up a camera to do so it would probably fill the hall and no one could be there to cheer.

Uh, then why did he not reject the running mate who was forced on him by the nut jobs?
Palin's going to be a trainwreck in motion....will be a popcorn moment for sure.
Just heard the best line of the evening on MSNBC:
Andrea Mitchell: Do you feel Sarah Palin is qualified to be commander-in-chief if g-d forbid, something should happen to John McCain?
Joe Lieberman: Well...you know...let's assume the best (chuckles uncomfortably). John's in great shape, he's gonna be the president and let's assume that nothing bad will happen...why should we? But if it does...yes, she'll be ready.
General Jack D. Ripper @ 69:

I just spent a week in a Florida jail (before bonding out--otherwise it would have been 30 days) for a five dollar piece of crack (allegedly) found under the seat of my rental car. Yet this fucking asswipe can take home classified security documents illegally and doesn't even have to face misdemeanor charges???

Lieberman's Zell Miller moment:

i am pretty sure that with the repubic approach to controlling the message, they only allowed a "pool feed" so no unsighlty of unflattering images could go out to the general public. so everyone got the same video feed. this allows for a perfect framing of that awesomely impressive backdrop.

First, I'm 57 years young.
Second, this was not a political convention. Judging by all the wrinkles and gray hair I'm assuming it was an AARP rally.
I didn't see Bush...he gives me diarrhea...but I just heard Wolf Blitzer say something about Bush referring to the "angry left." Angry? Yes, you're god damned right we're angry. Bush and his pissant administration have totally screwed up not only this country and this world.

How'd that work out?
tcramsi888 @ 121:
You actually watched that jackass Boner??? That guy really makes me sick....vomit and diarrhea at the same time!

I found this gem on the previous string of comments to "RNC Open Thread." How perfectly said.... I've heard this before that McCain spilled the beans on some classified information while in captivity, but isn't this something to explore - especially if McCain is willing to use it as such a crutch. What a catch-22 - if McCain didn't reveal classified information, why is he alive to speak of it; if he did reveal classified information, he's a traitor and unfit for "command."

And if you want to read the funniest bit of satire I have seen of late, check this out.

From Toronto a good take on Palingate, how they see him, her and us:
Palin's drive for family values hits a bump
Such a little thing, when your country needs you. .."
