Not so subtle jab to try an portray Democrats as being against America. Everything about these people is Rovian, small, petty and childish. Exactly what you would expect from a party that can't govern and who has run America into the ground.

Can you beleive Gonzo gets away with breaking the law again? I think I want to puke.

If you find the slogan too irritating, try mentally erasing the "O". Works for me.

Ruthless@2, That's good news. I wonder how the Repugs do after their Convention? Having all those old whitepeople and a few minorities probably didn't sit well with many Americans. I was not fooled how the Convention exploited the very few minorites there. It was shameful.

So, if your not a moose field dresser, a wolf shooter, parent of a pregnant teen, insecure, unable to adapt to the needs of the future, easily duped and ripped off by your own representatives and government I guess your a traitor to country and unpatriotic is that the idea?

They probably lost a few Christians too since that Focus on the Family christofascit prayed for a storm to disrupt the Democratic convention but God had other plans by giving the Democrats a flawless sunny skies convention and sent Gustav (staff of God) and the "Sara Palin Plague" to disrupt the Republican convention instead.

More to the point perhaps is the fact that this is an attempt by Republicans to run away from being identified as Republicans. Their message is toxic, their policies are unsustainable, their arguments cannot be defended. The only thing left for them is to wrap themselves in the flag and pray.

The photo in this article is by AP photographer Matt Rourke who was arrested in Minneapolis. The AP incorrectly reported that only Amy Goodman was charged with a misdemeanor. Democracy Now! producers Kouddous and Salazar face pending charges of suspicion of felony riot, while Goodman has been officially charged with obstruction of a legal process and interference with a peace officer.

Someone of Fox said they were worried that Palin's speech tonight might steal the spotlight from McCain's speech tomorrow. I think they are more hoping than worried.

Is "country first" supposed to suggest that they aren't partisan? Okay if it is, that's just funny.

That medical question is a bot contrived. Such procedures aren't only done with the intention of aborting if it's abnormal. Parents just want to know if they have a healthy baby or if there are going to be complications. Forewarned is forearmed.

Don't get me wrong, I think Palin is bloody dangerous. But there are enough real and obvious reasons to worry about her candidacy without indulging in beat-ups like this.

Ruthless@10, Why didn't MSM play up What Focus on the Family did? Advocating God to disrupt anything is ourageous! The fact the Hurricane hit the coast at the beginning of the Convention is eerie. Now Hanna is also making a appearance. If I were a religious woman, I'd be nervous. If I believe in anything, it's Karma.

As someone said in another thread. "Pro-family" Sara Palin throw her pregnant daughter and grandbaby to the media spotlight wolves for the sake of her own political ambitions.

"bit" not "bot" Grrr! Sorry!

Thanks Finnigan, I really loved the three quotes from Madison, Mencken and Vox Verax. it shows they really knew of what they spoke.

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." — James Madison

"On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron." — H. L. Mencken (1920)

I wondered that myself. If that were Rev. Wright praying for a storm to disrupt the Republican convention but a hurricane came and distruped the Democratic convention instead the the traditional corporate media would have been on it 24-7.

Well, I don't know who is responsible for firing these hurricane bullets toward Florida, but I wish they would stop. We're ducking and dodging them like crazy down here. It's like playing dodge ball but with hurricanes.

They aren't letting her be exposed to the media at all. Not surprising since she doesn't have the experience to be media savvy either:

Palin, who has been secluded since arriving Sunday night in St. Paul, will deliver her widely anticipated acceptance speech tonight or Thursday at the Republican National Convention. Asked Tuesday whether Palin would address "some of the controversies that have been swirling around her" -- involving her 17-year-old daughter, her husband's long-ago drunk-driving arrest, her pursuit of Washington pork-barrel "earmarks" and her encouragement of a political party that favors a vote on Alaska's secession from the United States -- campaign manager Rick Davis told reporters, "You're going to have to tune in to witness it firsthand."

But the questions have already forced Palin to curtail her activities as one of the party's hottest political celebrities. She has skipped the usual round of meetings with party leaders and delegates. Her only interview since McCain announced her selection Friday was with People magazine.

I agree with you completely. You could also have an OB/GYN who insists on the procedure regardless of the risk. Palin has enough negative issues going for her already. This is a non-issue and should not take time away from her lack of experience, her association with James Dobson and company, her stance on Roe v. Wade, her stance on perpetual war, her goofy, nutball Christian Dominionist beliefs in "destiny" and "God's will", her abandonment of her 17 year old daughter and Down's Syndrome son in exchange for the VP slot, her association with Ted Stevens, TrooperGate . . . . .

As of the last time I checked it will go up the east coast of Fla and head toward Ga and the Carolinas. It should stay far enough offshore down here in Fla to leave us alone. Maybe some gusty winds and a little rain. Hopefully the winds will be mild enough that I don't have to go out and take down all the bird feeders and shepherd's hooks. The birds look so bummed out when they see me do that, as I did the other week when we didn't know what Fay was going to do.

I don't like to comment on female medical questions because I am not female but the key word and always the key word is CHOICE! She made the choice to have the procedure and make the choice to keep the baby. She is also advocating that all others not have that choice. As a typical Republican she advocates that she know what is best for everyone but when it comes to her and her daughter's body they want that option no matter what the final choice is.

Just what we need. A specially bred mini-cow for home and garden.

last night while i was watching the badly-written, badly read speeches at the republican convention which has the appearance of having been organized and designed by sixth graders, it suddenly occurred to me -- if john mccain does not know how to use a computer, how does he communicate with himself and others?

it's one thing to not use email but computers have replaced typewriters. does mccain not write anything but small notes on bits of paper? who is his secretary? he must have at least one, because if he can't type up his own notes and communications the only options are dictating to a person or to a recorder for someone else to transcribe.

how does this man function in the 21st century?

They cite Dobson, Hagee, Copeland, Osteen and their legions of followers to blame. The greed, messing with politics, scandals, desire for power and enormous personal fortunes can't be finding any favor with God.

I do think they have a point there.

No sarcasm, deadly serious.

I wondered that myself. If that were Rev. Wright praying for a storm to disrupt the Republican convention but a hurricane came and distruped the Democratic convention instead the the traditional corporate media would have been on it 24-7.

This actually got more time in the Christian press and media. They were, for the most part, not pleased. The general opinion was that Dobson had royally put his foot in his mouth and some were openly wondering about maintaining their connections with his group. Have you noticed the silence from that side lately?

I doubt the damage will be permanent, but I'm hoping it will last until, oh, about mid-November.

Would it be wrong to pray for Americans to wise up on election day?

I hope not. I do it every day.

This may be O.T., but was there anything about the speeches last night that centered on the economy or health care, other than them wanting more free trade, "not fair trade."

I think you missed yesterday's Republican talking point (published on C&L) - this one is from Democracy Now!

Top McCain Aide: ’08 Election “Not About Issues”

Meanwhile, McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, has been quoted saying the candidates’ public image will matter more than issues in deciding the election. In an interview with the Washington Post, Davis said, “This election is not about issues. This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates.”

I didn't miss it. That's why I asked. The issues are what people will be voting on.

I doubt that's true - at least for around 50% of the people. Repubs haven't been able to campaign on issues for many years, why would they start now?

Very true. I noticed that they've changed their website significantly, toned down the hateful message and the hatemongering. I'm not saying there is a connection; it could also be fear of losing the non-tax status for being too political.

Pfff.. When did they ever strip the tax-exemption for any religious group? When a greedy cult like Scientology can get away with it, who can't? It's scandalous. And it would appear the dems are too scared of appearing 'anti-religion' to do anything about it.

I sure hope it'll change. Even some Republicans seem to realize the system is completely broken. (as reported here last.. november? Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has been looking into some of 'em.)

Fair enough. However, Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral lost a ruling in tax court where the IRS took the position that activities that were not related to religion, that were taking place on the property of the Crystal Cathedral with subject to tax. I think, specifically, they were referring to the paid performances for "The Glory of Easter" and "The Glory of Christmas". These activities were viewed as theatrical events, since they are advertised to members and non-members (and the tickets are really hefty $$$). Also, Schuller did lease out the Crystal Cathedral for other secular activities for which he was taxed. Schuller was, of course, on TV begging for money to cover these IRS expenses and he certainly isn't the worst of these fiends.

There a lot of independants and the so called Reagan democrats that are disatisfied with the economy and the health care issues.

Some Americans, but the Christian Coalition Republicans (the base) are counting on only two issues mattering: 1) Right to Life and 2) Selecting Judges that will not legistate from the bench. They feel they've got those two issues wrapped up in McSame and Stepford Candidate.

Don't forget Ken Copeland. He and his ministry are under tax investigation right now for how the ministry funds are being used; namely to support a few right-wing fund raisers. The private jet, owned by the church, was also used for purposes not connected with the ministry. Copeland has refused to cooperate. About a month ago it was reported that he refused to turn over his personal finance records to the investigating committee because, according to him, those records "belong to God".

I really hope the IRS nails him, but like Schuller he'll be back on TV asking his minions to send in their last dollars to cover the fines. Some of the poor dumb sheep will do it, too.

Great Palin roundup. And how much further can the DOJ sink? Running interference for the Bushies again...
