AP Demolishes GOP Convention Lies

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.
Some examples:
PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."
THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

I hope America wakes up tomorrow and realizes that Sarah Palin's words were rousing -- and completely empty, that they offered no road map (let alone bridge) for America other than more of the bogus partisan name-calling that has gotten us into the mess that we're in now.

We have had eight years of a vice president who gave nothing but false snippy answers and opinions, we don't need another vice president with that same attitude for the next four years. That's not change.
I found her to be a snide, sarcastic, self absorbed creature. I want her on shows like Meet the Press. I want her asked the same questions they would ask Joe Biden. I want to see her in an adult situation where people expect more from her than an attitude.

To me, she is the worst example of a female in the political arena. Making fun of others achievements is not an admirable quality. She apparently has no fu*king idea what a community organizer does. If she did know, and said what she did anyway, she's a heartless soul.
The appeal of Obama is that he has a vision. What is the Repub vision for our country? We are so desperate for real leadership and by that I don't mean the "I'll follow him to the gates of Hell" type of rhetoric. What is wrong with us that we disparage thoughtful, insightful, intelligent people and elect the guy at the bottom of his class?

That needs to be repeated every time she or McCain make that claim.

well, turns out Palin did inspire women! after last night, my wife who is very cynical about politics was so fired up, she now plans of dusting off the voter registration card and heading to the polls.

I would also add that those guard troops can be federalized for up to two years by the President which for the most part would have left Palin out of the guard's chain of command for a good portion of Palin's service as Governor. Besides, even if she did have direct control at some point her role as Governor limits her use of the guard to within the borders of Alaska. She is also limited to using them for crises involving civil matters, not to those crises that may have national security consequences. The U.S. Government can take control of those troops even inside of the state of Alaska if needs be. Palin has never had any role involving national security because she never has had to. Her role is simply to Govern, not to command. The right wing continues to try to give her more actual powers than her role as Governor actually entails.
That speech was excruciating. It was like enduring harangue from a diabolically articulate cheer leader--exactly like that.

I don't know if it has been said, but the state received something like $223 million dollars from the federal government for this bridge project, but as governor, Palin decided to scrap the bridge program. But Alaska kept the money for the bridge anyway. If the state were honest, they would give that money back! Palin, who is running with a candidate that claims to be specifically against earmark spending, spent most of her time as governor benefiting from those earmarks.
Ben Stein says he wants Palin to change Henry Kissinger's diapers. At least he's open about his distaste over Phalin.

It did look like a Klan convention, albeit the senior one. Of the few minutes I could tolerate, I watched them pan the crowd as Palin vomited out her lies and insults. They were all smiling and cackling maniacally, bearing the dentures, eyes bugged out of their heads.

I also find irony in the fact that AK is the most socialist state in the union. Does your state send everybody a check every year, I think that she also just sent the populace a $1000 check to help with energy costs, in a state that she says has plenty of oil. I am a liberal, careeer woman with an advanced degree and a mom. When my daughter was born with health problems I quit my job to care for her. Why? Beacuse my ambitions and career are SECOND to the well being of my child. Mrs. Palin makes her children a distant second to her ambitions. A Downs child needs a lot of care and needs a parent 24/7. Is her husband planning to quit his job and care for the baby? Last night he passed the fragiel newborn off to a 7 yer old who spit on its head nda picked at his eyes while barely holding him upright. Who lets a 7 year old care for a Special Needs newborn? Rednecks that's who. What about the other children? None of them seem to attend school at all since they are all up at 12 midnight every night stumping for mommy.
Also, this woman allows her 16 year old daughter to quit high school (parental permission needed) and her son has not bothered to attend college even though she is governer and he could go free almost anywhere. Her son-in-law to be has no plans to attend college and her husband never graduated. Did Mr. Palin even attend college at all? Is this the person we want in charge of education in this country? A person who thinks higher education or a high school degree is not needed? Wake up everyone, she is a yokel with no credentials. Watching the audience during the limited times the director put shots of them up I was intrigued at the older people, behind the people cheering and waving signs. I sensed a resignation in their faces that belied any support they may have for their Party.

I caught part of the "speech" last night and had to turn it off. I don't think I've ever heard a more negative speech in my life. Everything she said was either a put down of someone else or a beatitude of herself. The bad karma was palpable.
In a nutshell, she disgusts me. If I needed another reason to vote for Obama, her speech last night was it.

Well, at least we found out she can actually read! I found her condescending and arrogant, but that's a common trait of folks who are used to being a big fish in a little pond. She may indeed be a pit bull with lipstick, but most folks don't care much for that breed 'casue they're too aggressive.
One thing I noted and found rather disgusting throughout the evening, and I think all of the major speakers did it: each of them made a very emphatic point of saying, "I am/have always been PROUD of America!!" A major diss of Michelle Obama. If Sarah had half the brain and 1/3 the class of Michelle, she might've been selected as Miss Wasilla or whatever pageant she lost.

The best defense against last night is to talk about the person who inspired it: Karl Rove.
They showed last night that they want four more years of Karl Rove. They cackled, they cheered, they trumpeted a Rovian vision of America, where pit bulls govern and common sense is thrown out the window.

The fact that Palin's speech was a re-worked version of a generic male VP address is one clue. The fact that it was entirely empty of substance was another. Palin obviously threw in some biographical details, but other than that the whole thing was somebody else's product, especially when she tried to come off as an expert on foreign oil issues.
A good example of empty rhetoric. All it revealed about Palin is that she reads well, which figures since she was a news reader on local television in Alaska. She has a perky smile, a warm delivery and a sinister hidden agenda as a Dominionist Christian. If you want a VP whose personal jihad is to subdue and dominate the world, imposing a Christian state, meet Sarah Palin.
It should be interesting if the media questions her directly on her religious motivations. She will attempt to evade the subject. That will be fun to watch.
THIS COMMENT IS NOT MEANT AS AN ATTACK ON ANYONES DENOMINATIONAL CHOICE. However, its shows the hypocrisy of John McCain and the RNC:
1. Sarah Palin is a member of the Assembly of God (a pentecostal denomination) Church in Alaska - McCain choose her as his VP and she is now endorced by the RNC.
2. John Hagee, of Cornerstone Church, San Antonio, Texas, was born and reared in an Assembly of God home. HE IS AN ORDAINED Assembly of God minister, his church, Cornerstone, is affiliated with the Assembly of God denomination and he uses THEIR teaching literature in his Sunday School classes and other ministeries.
3. John McCain denounced John Hagee's endorcement because of Hagee's Assembly of God, radical, fanitical beliefs and attacks on Catholics. Then, he goes and chooses an "Assembly of God" woman as his running mate...who SHARES the same denominational affiliation, beliefs, practices and distain for Catholics.
Ain't that some hypocrisy. That's like a sucker punch to Hagee. I am a disgusted Rebpublican (voting for Obama) and have been told this morning, "the RNC just realized what you brought to our attention...and are working to keep this fact) out of the media." Palin was not thoroughly vetted!
I'm unsuccessful is being able to contact Keith Oberman's office, or any other of the news outlets who would listen. Hopefully, someone who reads this revelation will have infuence/connections and get this McCain, RNC Contradiction into the media.

This was the Quintessential Speech to End All Speeches - Sarah's Speech To Nowhere. All it did was confirm for americans that she is a "token angry veejayjay" whose knack for vengeance and slime is perhaps even worse than Bush's. In her smug sarcasm, she's alienated women everywhere who comport themselves with class, diplomacy, and tact....not to mention intelligence and maturity. Her attitude of vengeance was appalling and her over-acting reminded me of someone running the local PTA. How sad for women of america that we have nothing better than this to support our contention that women deserve equal treatment. How sad, indeed.
One thing is certain: If this angry twit is the "best candidate McSame could find", then we know, with certainty, that the GOP is really in trouble. Kay Bailey Hutchinson thinks so.
"Angry Sarah" will go quietly go away once the american people have discovered the lack of judgment and abuses of power so obvious in her paper-thin resume.
I suspect that, other than damaging evidence which is coming forward with each news cycle, american will be "Palin'd" just like we've become "bush'd" and won't want to even look at this woman.
