Colbert slams Lieberman's "bipartisan" duplicity

Stephen Colbert juxtaposes Joe Lieberman from Tuesday night with Joe Lieberman from 2006 and reveals what a true spineless snake he really is. As a bonus, Colbert exposes McCain for the maverick he isn't.

Lieberman: What, after all, is a Democrat like me doing at a Republican convention like this?

Colbert: Oh, oh, oh, I know...spitting in the face of everyone who voted for you?

Traitor to party and country!

Forgotten war?

A reader points out — and a search of the speech texts on the GOP convention site seems to confirm — a surprising fact: There hasn't been a single mention of Afghanistan at this convention.

Did that really happen? Did they accidentally play that speech?

Lieberman: What, after all, is a Democrat like me doing at a Republican convention like this?

Colbert: Oh, oh, oh, I know…spitting in the face of everyone who voted for you?

First, Lieberman's not a Democrat. The Connecticut Democratic primary voters through him out of the party. LIEberman is just saying this to try to contintue to try to undermine the Democrats from within but it doesn't work that well anymore since he's not one of us. He's using his caucusing with Democrats to say he's a Democrat but after 2008 he won't be able to say that anymore once his sorry ass gets kicked to the curb he can caucus with the Republicans no longer able to attempt to undermine the Democrats from within he'll then be just another partisan hack job of the GOP.

Second, LIEberman is not spitting the face of everyone who voted for him. 75% of Republicans voted for him and he's doing their bidding.

Colbert is a legend.
But even he won't point out Liebermans first loyalty...

Well...don't leave us hangin!
I watched to Colbert Report, but not the RNC...and I was kinda buzzed, as I had been out celebrating someones b-day. So I kinda wasn't really paying close attention.

Leave it to Colbert and Stewart to do the work the liberal corporate media is supposed to be doing ...

I wouldn't say he feels stupid about it...pissed off more likely.

Lieberman's entire career as a politician has been a false-flag operation. In many places like Connecticut where the Republicans never had a chance of electing an R Repuke, they simply backed a stealth D Repuke through the magic of corporate campaign financing. LIE-berman is just the most obvious, the tip of the iceberg. If this sounds paranoid to you, check the voting records of the House and Senate.

A song for Sen. LIEberman:
He's a real nowhere man,
Sitting in his nowhere land,
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.

Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere man, please listen,
You don't know what you're missing,
Nowhere man, the world is at your command.

He's as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere man can you see me at all?
Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere man, don't worry,
Take your time, don't hurry,
Leave it all till somebody else
Lend you a hand.

He's a real nowhere man,
Sitting in his nowhere land,
Making all his nowhere plans
For nobody.

Except we're voting for Obama/Biden!

Lieberman is in a no lose situation.

If the GOP wins, he becomes a Republican.

If the GOP loses, he joins the Likud.

Oh Stephen, how I love thee!

Sure Lieberman is at the RNC convention, but how about all the Republicans
who decided not to come to the party? Could it be that some are ashamed?
Could it be that a few are liabilites?

President Bush
Larry Craig
Liddy Dole
Dick Cheney
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Susan Collins
Ted Stevens
Pat Roberts
Chuck Hagel
Wayne Allard
Gordon Smith
John Sununu

Anyone have more names?

I'd gladly make a donation to have a tree planted in Joe Lieberman's anus.

Well stranger things have happened at this convention. For example, a hockey mom who can shoot, kill and field dress a moose, may be the next vice president of the United States.

I sure as heck didn't vote for him, I had a Lamont sign on my lawn.

Too bad McCain wasn't allowed to pick LIEberman. Then we'd have two deadpan, whiny old men complaining "that's not change you can believe in". Can't you just hear it?

They really hyped this up as McCain's good buddy and it again showed McCain superior judge of character in who he picks as advisors.
The best part was the end when he received a sitting novation from the sheep who spend the whole night on auto-applause.

Joe LIEberman deserves a spot as tail gunner in John McCain's Straight Flight Express plane to Siberia.

I also wanted to mention that I was so upset watching Foghorn Leghorn (Thompson), Droopy Dog (Lieberman), Giu911iani, and Peggy Hill (Palin), that I had to donate $25 to Obama.

That might not been the base they wanted to fire up, but it got me mad enough to send money!

When are the Dems going to punish Lieberman? Aren't there a couple of committees they can kick him out of?

It's pretty sad that in 2000 both McCain and Lieberman were sensible moderates. McCain, obviously, slightly right and Lieb slightly to the left.

Now, in 2008, they've both sold out to the far-right.

It's sad.

It'll be interesting tonight to see how many show up for McCain's speech. Tonight is the opening night of football season. Let's see, McCain speech or a football game? Not even close.

ChrisM70@18 has a point. They had to invite LIEberman. They ran out of reslugs not under investigation or caught in a personal scandal to invite.

Didn't help the attendance at all though. Most of that place was empty. They did their best not to show the empty seats but you could still see the vast sections completely devoid of life.

And some of those delegates looked like they needed a double espresso shot or a wake up call or something. But then given the hour it was probably past most of their bed times.

Lieberman -- Goldschlag or Quisling? You decide.

Looking forward to Stewart and Colbert tonight. Our only dose of reality?

And what the hell happened to Mika Brezinski? She is the low-information woman McCain thought we all were.

Nice try. A Center Party?

From what I've witnessed over the last 8 years, the Republican Party has morphed into a sort of New American Nazi Party and is only bound to get worse if given the chance. It's hallmarks have become hyper-active patriotism, overbearing moralism and overzealous religiosity. That combination can only lead to despotism. Of course, nobody is infallable and the Dems have their share of party corruption but the Democratic Platform is still rooted in those silly values of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." There is no center in that fight.

Question: Is the 'took two airline flights after her water broke' story absolutely true? Or, more exactly, with all the coverup allegations floating around, is this story absolute-truly being represented as the truth by her camp?

If (big-if) so, wouldn't it be by far the most damaging nonpartisan anecdote there is to use against her? An over-forty woman doing something that would be labelled irresponsible if a fifteen-year-old did it? I mentioned that to some winger friends last night and you coulda heard a pin drop, they were so uncomfortable turning it over in their minds.

Heavy eyeliner, a beehive hairdo, and a paper-thin resume may work on the pageant circuit but it's not working with middle class american women! McSame's little "political stunt" is backfiring in his face. I've been checking women's rights websites all morning and it's "more bad news for Palin" everywhere I check.

The AU press piece above is pretty damaging - showing that Republican women are ditching this loser.

She basically attracts "corn-pone Nazis" who are the worst outcome of our over-stressed society.

I hope to God you're right, sonya.

SONOFABITCH this country pissses me off so much! It's the 21st Century...women, minorities on tickets...freakin' NON EVENT. People need to wisen up and start voting their self interest!! That's what the RICH do.

Lieberman ran as an Independent not a Democrat. I don't agree w/his positions but I would like to see more crossing over party lines by guys like Lieberman and Hagel -- this is the best of what Obama stands for in my view is letting go of party ties. This web site while proclaiming Crooks and Liars as its title seems to only want to apply that label based on ideology which is unfortunate.

Totalitarianism (or totalitarian rule) is a concept used to describe political systems where a state regulates nearly every aspect of public and private life. The term is usually applied to Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, Shōwa Japan or communist states, such as USSR, Democratic Kampuchea, Vietnam, Mao-era and modern China and North Korea. Totalitarian regimes or movements maintain themselves in political power by means of an official all-embracing ideology and propaganda disseminated through the state-controlled mass media, a single party that controls the state, personality cults, central state-controlled economy, regulation and restriction of free discussion and criticism, the use of mass surveillance, and widespread use of terror tactics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totalitarianism

Next to these clowns, 75% of us are "left" and most of us are indeed angry. We have every right to be when such a pandering worthless sideshow is accepted as the next coming by the mindless fundies and racists out there.

I appreciate the snark. I would love to get confirmation on the truth of the matter, though. Honest to god. Almost anything she's done, you could walk up to one of the true believers on the street, and, if they've been armed with their talking points, they'll have an 'answer,' pathetic as it may be, to earmarks or radical pastors or whatever. But walk up to, say, a wingnut mom, and ask her about the 'broke water then took two plane trips, Texas (I think it was Texas?) to Seattle to Alaska' story.

Assuming she doesn't assume you're totally making it up (and that's where pushing the story until it's un-MSM-ignorable comes in), then what will this mom say? She'll be f'ing speechless.

The more I read about Palin and compare her to her real record the more scared I get.

She's not even close to reformer or progressive. That's a straight up lie.

Her record doesn't support her talk IN ANY WAY. Complete snow job.

Liberals say tax and spend on public works and infrastructure.

Conservatives say cut taxes, cut spending, and let business make a more efficient economy.

Palin and Bush cut taxes, but increased spending. That's neither conservative nor Liberal. That's moronic.

# 97 you're absolutely right. i'll bet cheney, rove and all the rest of those bastards get together and roll on the floor laughing at how stupid their supports are.

I would like to see Obama touch up more on his actual responsibility in Chicago as community organizer. Something that he volunteer to do, and face off real homeless people needing help, and a caring hand.

I don't know if Palin even had a soup kitchen in her small hometown. But I have no doubt she can skin and dress a homeless person in a heart beat. When she marginalize Obama charitable effort, then there is something really shallow about Palin heart.

Palin husband been in jail for DUI, and she has a pregnant underage teenager, but according to her those are problem that real American family have. I guess we are all drunk and stupid to know any better.

Are there any footage of her as a beauty pageant?
Did she ask for world peace? when she was on stage?

Colbert was pretty craz to pull that off but the problem still remains. We still haven't quite stood up thrown ourselves "onto the wheels of the machine".

Colbert is and has done his part (and gets paid damn well for it). The protesters in Minnesota are jumping on the wheel, folks have marched, called, e mailed, lobbied etc etc. Not sure what it is going to take for the Republicans to get out of the way and allow the Democrats efforts to hold this administration accountable work.

Lieberweasel should have been booted out of the Democratic party a long time ago. He is as slimy as they come. Norm Coleman of Minnesota is of the same ilk. Onetime Democrat turned republican, Norm moves to whatever position gives him the best return. His nick name in D.C. is "SQUISH".

Lieberman: What, after all, is a Democrat like me doing at a Republican convention like this?

Colbert: Oh, oh, oh, I know…spitting in the face of everyone who voted for you?

My guess is that he's spitting in the face of all the Democrats who didn't vote for him. In Joe's world, if you are elected to a Senate seat, that seat is yours by something like divine right for the rest of your life. And those blankety-blank Democrats tried to take "his" seat away! So he's been trying to stick it to them ever since short of actually leaving the party and giving up all that swell seniority, committee chairmanship, etc.

bwahahaha.

The Helen Thomas video was way exaggerated, but I honestly must admit, that was awesome. I was having problems believing he actually got to stand up and say all that.

McLieberQuisling is not a democrat. He just stood up and lied to the entire nation when he made that claim. Funny, I seem to remember him deriving a lot of political mileage out of condemning Clinton for lying to the nation.

It's also funny how coruupt, or complicit or pathologically opportunistic politicians (most of whom claim to be "Democrats") have appropriated the code words "reaching across the isle" or "bipartisanship" for what really amounts to giving a reach around as they attempt to excuse whatever it is that they are doing and know to be wrong or criminal. Coming from their mouths, words which used to mean something honorable have been truned into an obscenity.

Gee, Harry Reid, are you going to get off of your ass now do something about your Lieberquisling problem? No, of course not, because you are a part of that very same problem. Now that barak Obama is the official head of the party, perhaps he can, or will, do something.

I'll watch the football game tonight, even though they kicked our ass here in Packerland. It beats listening to Deadbeat John. He will probably take two hours to get his words out, he is so slow. He will have a stiff neck from reading the teleprompter. You go Colbert !
