Andrew Sullivan says it best:

This [VP] decision is not worthy of a great power. Whatever skills Palin may turn out to have, however fabulous a person she may turn out to be, even if she becomes the Eva Peron of Christianism, McCain had no idea when he picked her.

He winged this. That's the critical, unavoidable, devastating point.

John McCain has demonstrated with this insane decision that he is unfit to be president of the United States. This was an act of near-criminal negligence. If he can behave this recklessly and impulsively with this decision, the idea of allowing him to become president of the United States is only a smidgen less terrifying than thinking of Palin in that position.

Whatever few doubts I may once have still had about this election, they are resolved now.

Obama has to win. The alternative is unthinkable.

Track Palin, Sarah's teenage son who is shipping off to Iraq on Sept. 11th, apparently joined the Army to avoid jail. Most of Track's senior year was spent in Michigan, which is unusual. Why would this amazing example of family values let their oldest live in Michael Moore's homestate? Could it be that Track severed the brakes of a schoolbus, endangering the lives of elementary school children? And this has something to do with "Troopergate?"

It's futile to point these things out, of course, because anybody who understands what an oxymoron is wouldn't be voting for them anyway. The people who ARE voting for them think the word means you're as stupid as an ox, and usually respond with "them's fighting words!" when they hear it.

This is not good enough the word must get out this is crucial as the democrats have stopped allowing the USA to make money on oil and to save our own country with the tax revenues. I wish the word could get out all over TV radio and the internet
Is this change we can believe in or more of the same that has brought us to the brink of disaster?

Pericles's picture

Cas @ 57:

Worse.. These handwritten signs were supposed to be handed out by the convention organizers.

If you're suggesting that the Mavrick signs were written by the same gang of knuckle draggers who put the picture of Walter Reed Middle School behind McCain when they meant to put up a picture of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, I think you're probably right.

But that's actually pretty interesting, because it suggests that two of the three components of the old Reagan coalition have deserted the ship. The Reagan coalition consisted of fiscal conservatives, neo-con foreign policy hawks, and wingnut values voters. Traditionally, the wingnut values voters provided all the foot soldiers for the election, but the other two groups always provided the generals. Sort of like that joke that people used to tell during the Napoleonic era about how the perfect army would have French generals and English foot soldiers. Well, if those signs and video presentations were any indication, it looks like the French generals have buggered off long ago, and the foot soldiers are running most of the campaign.

Ali's picture

And one more thing. I just listened to that clip. What a bunch of fucking hypocrites. Didn't they just diss community service recently??? God I hate the republican party sooooo much.

We are going to have to work for this one. We can send Obama money. Make sure everybody weknow who will listen knows the FACTS. Make sure they are registered and make sure they vote. Send letters to the editor. Relay facts and not anger. If you live in a battle ground state this is MOST important. Here’s a good website that shows the race by state: http://www.electoral-vote.com/. Volunteer at your local dem headquarters. It’s really fun! Put an Obama/Biden sticker on your car, a sign in your yard. Send out emails relaying the facts and sharing important clips and videos. Tell everyone what is so good about Obama/Biden and what is so WRONG about McSame/Palin.

If the election were held today Obama would win. But the republicans brought Palin, the Moose Whacker, onboard to assuage the fundamentalists and they will mobilize them through the churches to get out their votes just like they did in 2004.

WE CAN DO IT. WE MUST. But we can’t do it by sitting on our butts bitching about it, as cathartic as that is. Spread the truth!! Educate the stupid people!!

Oh yes, I forgot something. It's obvious to me that McCain's supporters have an aversion to people who excel at their profession. In the movie 'Top Gun' Lt. Pete Mitchell, the second best pilot in the Navy (who would prove to be the best in the closing combat sequence), had the call sign "Maverick." This man's sign could then be construed as being vindictive towards even representations of great fighter pilots. No other sign of vitriol towards a pilot could be greater than misspelling his call-sign. No sir, Goose would not be proud!!!

A monkey in an Armani, by any other name, is STILL a monkey.

A teacher in Jackson, Mississippi asked her 6th grade class how many of them were McCain fans.

Not really knowing what a McCain fan was, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raised their hands except for Little Johnny. The teacher asked Little Johnny why he decided to be different... again.

Little Johnny said, 'Because I'm not a McCain fan.'

The teacher said, 'Why aren't you a McCain fan?'
Johnny said, 'Because I'm a Democrat.'

The teacher asked why he's a Democrat.
Little Johnny answered, 'Well, my Mom's a Democrat and my Dad's a Democrat, so I'm a Democrat.'

The teacher asks, 'If your Mom was a moron, and your Dad was an idiot, what would that make you?' With a big smile,
Little Johnny replied, 'That would make me a McCain fan.'

I always liked Little Johnny.

I hope you spelled it "moran" intentionally as a joke. I assume you did.

Its an inside joke based on this photo

Some don't believe in spellcheck. And the dictionary is keeping the plastic kitchen table from wobbling

That's a pretty funny and sad at the same time image.

I know where the missing "E" is!

It's at the end of some former VP's P-O-T-A-T-O EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

We should give the man some slack. He had to drop out of school at 16 cos he got his girlfriend PREGNANT and then was forced - I mean CHOSE - to do the honourable thing and marry her.

Mind you - he would have benefitted if there was someone like Sarah Pailin in charge of the education system. He and his girlfriend would have been taught about ABSTINENCE!

What a shame he didn't. Thankfully millions of young men and women will benefit by having Sarah in the white house in 2009!

BS! Marriage is not an option for him or the repubs. He will eventually come to his limited senses and either commit suicide or opt for a fatal car accident.

Where's the 'RAISIN MCCAIN" sign? Colbert had a field day with that one. I guess these people are home-schooled?

Track Palin, Sarah's teenage son who is shipping off to Iraq on Sept. 11th, apparently joined the Army to avoid jail. Most of Track's senior year was spent in Michigan, which is unusual. Why would this amazing example of family values let their oldest live in Michael Moore's homestate? Could it be that Track severed the brakes of a schoolbus, endangering the lives of elementary school children? And this has something to do with "Troopergate?"

holy crap!

really???

why is her family "off limits" again?

Because they're so far beyond the pale.

We just can't go there.

Too far.

States with the highest teen pregnancy rates are also "red states" and "Jesusland" states. What are they teaching...or should I say NOT teaching their children? It almost seems intentional. An army of conservative "morans".

Technically he said "teach an adult to read" not "teach an adult how to spell or write," it's sad really. And I think the Moran thing is from a picture in St. Louis, of people who didn't want Inbev buying Budweiser...

Don't blame the poor man holding the sign, the handmade signs were all made by the RNC and handed out to the delegates. I can only assume that the signs were made by graduates of Bob Jones and Liberty University. I can also assume that the RNC delegates will not question or check anything that is handed to them.

The alternative is unthinkable.

agree. just as we fear the W may have the incapacitating residual effects of alcoholism, so with mccain we will have to consider that he is incapacitated by PTSD due to his war experiences. there is apparently a lot of evidence that he has serious temperament problems, a typical sign of PTSD. can you imagine what a dysfunctional pair mccain and palin would make?
