Rachel will be appearing at the end of Keith's show tonight, so tune in a bit early.
On a related note, Keith was fired up tonight, so be sure and check out the replay of Countdown after Rachel's show if you missed the first broadcast. In addition to calling the Palin/McCain ticket out for what it is (a couple of liars), Keith also interviews Barack Obama.
I remember when she was known only to those of us who got out of bed before Morning Sedition. I adjusted my work schedule just so that I would be able to listen to her on the way to work!
Now let's endure the deluge of concern trolls who will bitch and moan because Ms. Maddow is too liberal to be on TeeVee, and we should not have that if we strive to have "fair" newscasting. While at the same time they will be ignoring the fact that there are like two plus orders of magnitude right leaning hosts for each mildly liberal one.

Rachel's off to a good start... taking on Sarah Palin's relationship with that Wasilla CHURCH... and her attitudes about politics and religion. Palin suggested just last JUNE that our mission in Iraq is GOD's PLAN! Man is she a NUT CASE or what?
Watching Rachel, and love the show. I heard her say that the republicans are born again because Rick Davis says the party is only 4 days old. What next, the last 8 years did not happen?
Me too. From what I've seen so far tonight I'm afraid she will.
I'm sick of punditry, opining and predicting on the cable news networks.
I want more facts. More new information. More investigation. And less of the "So, Uncle Pat, what do you think about the accusations of media bias in the coverage of Sarah Palin." Ugh. It's BORING!!!! And redundant. I can get all that right here on the Internet.
Rachel is supersmart and could certainly bring us more than that.
I liked the show until the Buchanan part. Maybe I just like Rachel. Olberman and then Rachel. Thats Great.
He got about 2 bullshit laden sentences out of his lying mouth before I could make it to the switch. ANd bitching about how 'MEAN' the media has been to the Rapture Ready VP nom.
Get out of the kitchen arseholes, if you're finding it to hot. If the media has to be nice to her, I demand they be nice to Obama.
I LOVE RACHEL!!! And when the dust settles.. Rachel will have unwoven all the Republican spin, leave the rightwing loons in tatters, and discover lipstick on leftover love notes in Pat Buchanan's closet signed J. Edgar. Go! Go! Rachel!
Rachel and Keith have a lot riding on this show. Keith pushed hard for it, and I’m sure Rachel is up to the task. She’s no newbie. I found the first show to be a bit disjointed though, and look forward to her finding her TeeVee voice the way Keith did. I don’t think she should be doing another CountDown, but I do want the sparks to fly.
And yes, smartest female in the MSM. I wish her all the best.
I loved it....day 1 of 'truth', Rachel style. I loved her putting Pat in his place...as usual.
I guess it isn't 'sexest' if a woman puts down another woman,so let 'Shara Who?' have it,no holds bared. THINK...if McSame dies, 300,000,000 people will be stuck with this woman who is soooooooooo unqualified. Congrats to you, the MAJORITY of this country will be heard.
First saw Rachel on the C. Tucker Show. She can make her point in a very kind way. I'm one of those Christians, but I believe Pat was so mean spirited and unfair to her. Rachel didn't insult us, but did raise an important question, but raised an important question about Gov. Palin's feelings about separation of church and state. She did not deserve that on her first night. I wish her the best.

In an interview Ms. Maddow said that she would closely question both candidates on their positions vis a vis Afghanistan. Let us see if she will finally be the person to ask Obama why it is somehow more acceptable to kill a person who is defending his country in Afghanistan but not in Iraq. One hopes that she will ask both candidates why they believe that the United States should continue to occupy Afghanistan since history has shown Afghanistan to be the graveyard of those imperial countries who have futilely and unjustly attempted to assert their dominion over that beleaguered country.
Wow, was she excellent. That show was superb... except for the Buchanan segment. (Though he really stood-out as an a**hole, by contrast to the rest of the guests.)
I'm watching the premier episode of The Rachel Maddow Show, but I don't see myself as able to continue watching it down the road.
It's a 24/7 cable news show and people aren't talking over and yelling at each other, which is allowing the issues being discussed to actually register with my brain. Wholly unacceptable.
But I thank you for keeping Morning Joe going strong; it may be enough to bludgeon my brain back into a stupor.
Nice, cool-looking set too. It would be great if entire episodes could be posted online and accessible for anyone in the world who wants to see the show like Democracy Now! does for their viewers now.
Pat Buchanan deliberately tried to undermine Rachel Maddow's inaugural show, literally trying to bully her and seize control, talking over her, spouting his right-wing RNC/Karl Rove talking points, and overall being just his usual obnoxious, abusive self.
The idea that Palin's religious beliefs and her pastor should be above reproach and beyond any questioning, while Obama's religious background and his former pastor should be questioned, questioned, questioned, was the most blatant right-wing talking point spouted by Pat. Hypocrite.
Rachel Maddow was excellent. She was composed, smart and intelligent. And she stuck to the facts.
On the other hand, Buchanan was a Republican pig, and at any moment I expected him to Go O'Reilly on Rachel and start yelling at her "Shut up, shut up, shut up!!!" like O'Reilly has done on his show on several occasions when someone challenges his simple-minded right-wing talking points. In fact, one could see Pat getting redder and redder as the show's host, Rachel Maddow, tried to get a word in edge-wise and call him on his Republican lies.
Wow, watching the Rachel Maddow show nightly looks like it will be as much fun, and just as informative, as watching Countdown with Keith Olbermann...a one-two punch for truth, freedom and the American way.
(The only drawback I saw on her show was the visuals. The show's producers need to jazz it up a little, without making it glaring. Plain and relatively colorless just doesn't seem to describe Rachel Maddow, does it?).
i think she'll get up to speed quickly.
i have to admit that the debut was just not that compelling.
rerunning footage from keith's interview that we had just seen 45 minutes ago was not a great way to break in a new show.
oh, and pat was a real cranky bastard thus his segment did NOT go well, but it's all pat's fault for being a jerkoff.
all in all, i am confident it will get better every day, but the debut was not a homerun.
[yeah - we can blame pat for at least part of it, but not 100% of it]
I'm a huge Keith fan, and a big Rachel fan, but with them back to back I think she's going to lose some viewers... I'll give her show some time to find its own legs, but it felt a lot like Countdown.
I am happy to see her doing something that Keith refuses to do.. take opposing viewpoints. Though she could stand to go outside the box given what a massive tool Pat Buchanan is. Anytime he starts talking I just change the channel... he's nothing more than Jerry Springer material, with all the senseless yelling and talking point spewing.
I wish Rachel well. She's got her facts down. She just needs to turn the show on its head.
Rachel Maddow is a remarkable woman, intelligent, perceptive, kind and generous. Her opinions are well thought-out, honest and often unique. She brings a breath of fresh air into any argument and will not back down from anyone... including Pat Buchannan, who obviously respects her a great deal. Say what you will about Pat but he did Rachel a favor by appearing on her show. I look forward to hearing what she's thinking about in the months to come. My thanks to MSNBC for finally giving this woman a greater platform to express herself.
Yes Rachel and Keith were great. I still don't like what they did to Keith and I am positive the big shots email boxes are on full blast by now, as they need to be.
It is good they are giving us something positive to look at, because this non stop McCain crap keeps my station on the home decorating network.
Buchanan came out swinging, but it was good to see Rachel hold her own and keep smiling. The Reverend from Texas was pretty weak, but I'm not a big fan of religion anyway.
Buchanan was way off when he said that the media attacked Palin's family, and Maddow called him on it right away saying that the campaign itself had issued the press release (Bet you never saw Hannity think that fast - or that well.) Pat scored some punches when he said that Palin could be interpreted to mean that she was asking to be on god's side (like Lincoln did) - although the pipeline thing is kind of a stretch. Then Buchanan walked right into a steaming pile when he said Rachel was trashing Palin's religion but Obama's pastor is a bigoted white-hater. It was like Rachel reached over and gave Pat a nipple-twist when she called him on it.
I thought Maddow's arguments about Palin's merging of god and politics were a little thin (although there's probably more where that came from) and probably are a little bit dog-whistle. She could have stuck with her creationism in public schools stance.
...and I would have loved to see Buchanan squirm if Rachel had asked him if Palin's daughter's pregnancy is an appropriate "jumping off" point to ask Palin about her abstinence-only education stance.
I love, love, love Rachel Maddow. I've see clips of her on youtube and her appearances on Countdown. During the convention coverage, I loved her ability to have lay out a witty and intelligent response to Pat Buchanan's rants. I think its a brilliant move to include him on the new show. The two of them have differing opinions, yet he doesn't end every thought with typical doomsday rhetoric of a typical conservative, nor does she softball her stance like most liberals. They are a great match, and always with a smile and a twinkle in the eye at the end of a debate.
Rachel hit the "pray the gay away" ball out of the park. Keith was bating her to make bold gesture about being gay/ lesbian, she tossed it aside with a comment about many factors for being gay.
Keith was more than a little over the top picking on Sarah Palin's church and Pentecostals in general. Given the number of born again Christians as a voting block, we can't afford to alienate them. Well, luckily, they are all watching their golden boy... Bill O.
I thought Phil Griffin was off his rocker when he ditched Dan Abrams, but with Rachel all was forgiven. Now, Mr. Griffin is taking Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann off the election coverage. I read today that he's gunning for Chris Matthews. Idiot.
Sure. The republicans were pointing at the NBC booth when the "liberal media" was mentioned during speeches. Hey, wake up! They only pointed to NBC because Bill O has been attacking NBC for months.
Rachel's first show was flawless. I can't wait for tomorrow night.
Questioning Palin's christionist desire to govern the US according to her perverted interpretation of the New Testament is not the same as criticizing her church. Buchanan either doesn't get it or willfully ignores that fact.
I enjoyed the show until Pat Buchanan came on and tried to take over the show with Palin talking points. I do not want to hear anything Pat Buchanan have to say and hopefully Rachel will not have him on her show as a frequent quess. If so I will find it very difficult to watch her show. I understand Rachel need to keep the show balanced but I am sure she can find someone other than Pat Buchanan. Pat Buchanan is divisive and project negative racial overtones when he speaks and I am sure I am not the only person noticing. One reason I do not watch Morning Joe on a regular basis is because Pat Buchanan is a frequent guess.
I was just over at TV Squad reading comments on their review when I decide to answer some typical vicious wingnut smears and got censored. The review writer Allison Waldman is allowing uncensored attacks on Rachel and Keith but little rebuttal by our side.Waldman justifies this by saying people should keep comments to the review while allowing what must be her/him? political thru.

Don't go there. Don't give them your business. Every time you click on their link, it gets counted and they ultimately receive benefit from your visit.
Rachel, Marc, Sam and Al Franken brought me back to political life after 11/2004. Rachel was on at 6 a.m. here (Morning Sedition at 3 a.m.!) and I lost sleep to listen to them. Rachel is in full command of non MSM stories. If MSNBC lets her book her own guests this will be a great show. I was horrified to see air time to Pat Buchanan on her first night. I think that TV and Rachel will clash unless she has control. And we all know what is in control.
Smart, Beautiful, and now follows 'Countdown' nightly.
Awesome!
Dammit! She's on at the same time as Prison Break!
oh well, Prison Break's a FOX show anyway....
Go Rachel Go!!
I remember when she was known only to those of us who got out of bed before Morning Sedition. I adjusted my work schedule just so that I would be able to listen to her on the way to work!

Man, here is Dallas, TX, Air America crashed and burned over here on AM radio.
I had to listen over the internet.
Watching it right NOW...I'm loving MSNBC.
Nice, colorful set. BEST WISHES RACHEL!
And Keith on Rachels' show-- now that's a ticket to vote for!
ok, what is and what's the correct spelling of bon mo and ma joust?
thanks.
Bon Mot and Mot Juste
DonsBlog @ 11:
Let the Canuck help!
"Bon mot" and "Mot juste," meaning 'the good word' and 'the just word' respectively.
Bon mot means "good word' and mot juste means "correct word' or the "exact word'.
Rachel asked if anyone could name a difference between Bush and McCain.
Yup!
Bush chose a Dick for Vice President,
McCain chose a ...!
Rachel Maddow has been one of my favorite radio personalities for a long time now, I am ecstatic that she is on Prime Time.
Wayne @ 16:
Wow, she will be up against Hannity and Colmes. I hope she kicks ass.
I'm almost tempted to get cable!
Steve Benen on the TV!!! Cool. Way to go Rachel and Steve!
Rachel's off to a good start... taking on Sarah Palin's relationship with that Wasilla CHURCH... and her attitudes about politics and religion. Palin suggested just last JUNE that our mission in Iraq is GOD's PLAN! Man is she a NUT CASE or what?
Any idea when the show is available online?
The smartest woman in MSM
ruins it with fat ass Buchanan.
Thank god for the remote.
"Bon mot" also has a more typical and useful meaning like "touché" or "clever comeback".
What's with the crappy music, though? It's really distracting while she's talking.
I hope she doesn't lose her edge.
Bon Mot and Mot Juste
Thanks all.
Watching Rachel, and love the show. I heard her say that the republicans are born again because Rick Davis says the party is only 4 days old. What next, the last 8 years did not happen?
Well, I would be watching, but Comcast doesn't have MSNBC on its basic cable line up anymore. Sweet.
Way to put Pat in his place, Rachel! He bashes RM for talking about Palin's religion, then goes on to bash Obama's. Typical Republican.

"It's Pat." Rachel vs Buchanan. hahaha....I don't how they do it without profanity and extreme violence.
StirFry @ 31:
I wonder if Pat knows his skit is has the same name as the SNL skit.
she looks beautiful! (more dramatic eye makeup than usual and are those fake eye lashes?!)
Anyway, loved the show...especially when she quarrelled with Pat Buchanan.
Great show and I see a lot of promise there.
Love ya Rachel!
A Star is Born
Yaay!!
Way to go, Rachel.
A great start though the red/blue thing is a bit fugly, the music needs work AND why do we need to listen to Herr Buchanan.
Must be so painful for MSNBC - a lefties ratings spike and they have to rumpswab McSame and Mooselini at the same time.
I don't really care for her as an entertainer or whatever news people are these days.
She's be cool-fun to spend some time with when off work though.
I liked the show until the Buchanan part. Maybe I just like Rachel. Olberman and then Rachel. Thats Great.
Great first show Rachel!!! Glad to see you finally get some control over the TV Machine. Good Luck!!!
ps. I know she doesn't read this stuff but I just wanted to throw my good wishes out to the cosmos hoping it will reach her one way or another!

My thoughts on her first show,
Rachel and Keith have a lot riding on this show.

God Bless America - Rachel finally has her own show!!
Go get 'em Gurrl ;-)
Finally! But on the very same day we get Rachel, GE caves and nixes Tweety & K.O. for debate coverage due to McGrumpy's whining.
Who's in charge over there, anyway?
In an interview Ms. Maddow said that she would closely question both candidates on their positions vis a vis Afghanistan. Let us see if she will finally be the person to ask Obama why it is somehow more acceptable to kill a person who is defending his country in Afghanistan but not in Iraq. One hopes that she will ask both candidates why they believe that the United States should continue to occupy Afghanistan since history has shown Afghanistan to be the graveyard of those imperial countries who have futilely and unjustly attempted to assert their dominion over that beleaguered country.
She is da bomb! How did someone so smart and so talented manage to get so far on television?

I wish Rachel well. She's got her facts down. She just needs to turn the show on its head.
Anyone else have this moment while watching the show?
"Me Talk Down? What does that... oh, wait. Talk Me Down. Okay, got it."
I watched it online - I refuse to get cable. Just go to MSNBC and fiddle around until you find her page. All the show is available right now.
She's just great, and really handled Pat's unhinged virulence well. It was shocking how angry he was.
Rachel Maddow is a remarkable woman, intelligent, perceptive, kind and generous. Her opinions are well thought-out, honest and often unique. It is good they are giving us something positive to look at, because this non stop McCain crap keeps my station on the home decorating network.
Did Glenn Greenwald appear on the show? And, if so were his views on Olbermann's demotion muzzled?
Another thing, can someone please publish an email address for MSNBC where a mad member of the public can direct complaints?

Rachel is in full command of non MSM stories. If MSNBC lets her book her own guests this will be a great show. I was horrified to see air time to Pat Buchanan on her first night. I think that TV and Rachel will clash unless she has control. And we all know what is in control.
THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS-(keeps my B.P. normal!!
