Yup, that's John McCain boarding the yacht of Raffaello Follieri, former playboy beau of actress Anne Hathaway and current felon. What's the Ol' Maverick doing celebrating his 70th birthday on a yacht in Montenegro with his campaign manager Rick Davis? The Nation has the scoop.

The McCain-Follieri Love Boat

John McCain has been hammering rival Barack Obama for being little more than a vapid "celebrity" and "elitist." But The Nation has obtained a photo revealing just how star-struck a straight-talking maverick can become when offered the chance to celebrate his birthday aboard a yacht filled with celebrities--even if one of those celebrity types turns out to be an A-list con man.

What would the reaction be if it were Obama schmoozing on the yacht of a Hollywood celebrity with David Axelrod? Do we even have to ask?

Yglesias sums it up:

Long story short, John McCain who hates lobbyists and celebrities decided to spend his seventieth birthday partying on a yacht off the shore of Montenegro with an Italian con man and his movie star girlfriend, a meeting organized by a lobbyist who also happens to be McCain’s campaign manager.

Hey he said he was gonna clean up Washington. He didn't say anything about Montenegro.

God save us from McScumBag. Actually, to hell with God... get your asses out there to make sure that this ultra-Neocon and his fundie, end-of-times VP don't lose this country forever to the corporatocracy (and/or to a hail of halleluja nukes)!

Not to mention the comparative irritation of being soaked by a gaggle of lobbyists.

The Masque of the Red Death, Montenegro-style?

McCain = Caligula (to Bush's Nero and Cheney's Claudius.)

Palin/McCain 08

- Ann Hathaway for Secretary of State
- Elizabeth Bareback for Attorney General

F' it , might as well go to hell with a bang.

Two years ago? Was the guy a convicted felon at the time? (sorry, link wouldn't open...) If not, it's a non-story.

Hell, two weeks ago, I just went about my daily life when I got caught in a minor traffic scrape, and was subsequently jailed for cocaine "allegedly" found in my rental car. I'm now facing a bullshit felony charge.

Sorry, unless the guy was a known felon (to McCane) at the time of this now two-year-old birthday bash, move on.

We have more important issues with which to concern ourselves.

'Now, now, now, now, Bill. Bill...Bill, that's guilt by association. And I have thousands of associations. Let's be reasonable.'

Obama Retaliates in ‘Celebrity Wars’: Compares McCain to Abe Vigoda

I don't wish to sound alarmist of defeatist because there is a long way to go but: -

I was over at the electoral-vote.com site which is suffering a plague of red all over the map and for the first time, the Republicans have taken the electoral college lead. The Democrats seem to be barely ahead in a lot of states they won last time. Even single republican state they had been taking has been completely reversed.

A lot of these polls seem to have come out after the Republicans have told lie after lie after (easily proven) lie. This is on top of the massive destruction of the last 8 years and the weakest Republican ticket in recent history - go on, compare it to the last one even. What the hell is wrong with people?

Rachel Maddow Rocks!

How uppity of this bozo!

Skeptics will say the MSM wont cover this, but anybody in the internet age who gets all their info from the MSM via TV is pretty much a lost cause anyway.

I love this. What is it with boats and shenanigans? There seems to be an odd correlation.

this fits into the mccain 'celebrity' theme and here i thought it was only Obama i see it's mccain also.
one must always keep the contrarian hat nearby when dealing with the Republicans. they are less than perfect
although they say differently.
HEY Lehman Bros. is getting help from the government. wow i thought the fiscal responsible party(R).. didn't need/want government help....i thought this was 'socialism' the same socialism that they claim the obama healthcare proposal.

70th birthday? C'mon that was over 10 years ago.

Seriously, if these clowns get selected, these are the good old days. Enjoy what is left.

Defenders Action Fund underscored its endorsement by launching a new TV ad about Palin's environmental record, focusing on her support for the aerial hunting of wolves, a cruel practice she actively champions in Alaska. The program licenses private citizens to fly airplanes and shoot wolves from the air or chase them to exhaustion before landing and shooting them point blank. The gunners then sell the pelts of the animals they kill for profit. The program also targets grizzly and black bears. The ad, which will air in presidential swing states, shows a new and extreme side to the Governor, which has yet to be fully explored in the media.

"Sarah Palin not only condones the aerial hunting of wolves and bears, she actively promotes it," continued Schlickeisen. "She has even gone so far as to propose a bounty of $150 for every severed left foreleg of a wolf the hunters can produce. Her promotion of this ghastly and unscientific program - which she pursues while simultaneously suing the federal government to eliminate protections for the imperiled polar bear - offers voters a glimpse of her values and character that is quite different from the picture carefully crafted by the McCain-Palin campaign's professional speechwriters. It should also provide voters with a good idea of what a McCain-Palin administration's approach to stewardship of our nation's natural resources would be like. Americans deserve to know about this real side of Sarah Palin before they make up their minds about her.

"John McCain's choice of Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate confirmed that the only candidates we can truly count on to protect our air, land and water are Senators Obama and Biden, and we are proud to today offer our endorsement of the Obama-Biden ticket," said Schlickeisen.

"John McCain's record on the environment has been extremely mediocre at best, often erratic, and clearly inferior to that of either Obama or Biden. Now, his selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate provides a very clear warning that - as difficult as it may have been to contemplate earlier - a McCain-Palin administration would likely be just as bad as the Bush-Cheney one on many major environmental issues. So when it comes to sound environmental policy, to conserving wilderness areas and wildlife, to standing up to the special interests, there really is now no contest between the two tickets. While the McCain-Palin campaign studiously avoids most environmental issues and offers energy proposals based largely on Big Oil's wish list, the Obama-Biden campaign is offering solid positions in nearly every environmental area, including forward-looking energy solutions.

Time to hedge your bets. Put some money away. Don't start a family. Even if Obama wins, things aren't bad enough to make Americans vote in their interests and not in their emotions. If anything, the conduct of the MSM isn't reflective OF the MSM itself, its reflective of us. All of us. We currently have the government we deserve as a country. We probably have the MSM we deserve as well. We're probably going to get the president we deserve in November.

This is 2 days old. Maybe I spend too much time reading the Internets at work?

Anyhoo, glad to see it echoed here along with the "no home/no vote" post. The more we expose these vote-stealing celebrity lobbyist-loving hypocrite liars, the better.

Yeah, I think I'm underestimating the damage...it may be a while. I'll be filming the whole thing.

I'd like to propose we amend the Constitution to read:

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States, and has never earned nor fraternized with anyone with an income of more than $100,000 a year.

I think this could solve a lot of our problems right there.

The myth of the man has left so many, including far too many on the left, to doubt what we are actually witnessing from John McCain - a man of no principle, no morals, no conviction, a man lacking any sense of honor or dignity.

Fact is is that John McCain has been a bully his entire career, a career most notably spent picking on women and minorities. He has justified his rage and abuse by claiming himself to be acting a selfless role for the good of others. Who said? Who other than those closely aligned with the man have claimed any of this? What others have said has been completely deleted from the narrative. We're left with a POW, a maverick tooting his own horn.

Wake up America. Wake Up!

Having lived through 3 hurricanes in Mexico, I can pretty much guarantee lots of road damage. Like, roads missing. They just completely end. Especially a hurricane with this much water in it. And here we have the difference between ideologies. In the midst of political debate, YOU ALL still find it in your hearts to reach out whole-heartedly, and most sincerely, to those who are facing a natural disaster. The Repugs find it humorous to suggest that we are of the ilk of doom and gloom, yet when do any of them take the time to spread good wishes, thoughts and prayers towards complete strangers who are in the line of certain threat?

This is what separates us from them.

Yet, they still have the gall to accuse us of wishing harm upon our fellow citizens. They bring forth their lies to further their hate for anything different, progressive, and much more in tune with love and kindness than their own agenda. They smear for one sole purpose.

it's 2008 and the GOP is asking us to elect a guy for president who doesn't even know how to turn on a computer.

do you all realize how embarrassing this is?

I think this election is finally starting to BREAK toward its end game:

Barack steadily climbing back up in the daily tracking polls, out of the "BUMP" in McSame's favor after the Republican's LIE FEST of a convention.

People are finally getting the WHOLE STORY on Sarah Palin... which is that she is a RIGHT WING LOONEY who has a great smile, but is a political and religious DYNOSAUR (SARAH-saur.)

McCain will finally be asked to explain his FLIP-FLOP-ing roller coaster campaign.

McCain's ties to KKKarl Rove campaign tactics will shatter his "supposed moral superiority."

And Sean Hannity's HEAD IS GOING TO EXPLODE any day now... live on his radio program.

Not sure if this party was to celebrate his 70th or 72nd. If it was two years ago, like I assumed, I just don't think it's that important. Now if it's indeed his 72nd, well then...

No, two years ago Raffaello Follieri probably wasn't a "convicted felon" but no doubt was involved in fraud and money laundering of which he was eventually convicted. I think it will be really interesting to find out what McCain and Lobbyist Davis were doing other than eating birthday cake. Celebrating his 70th birthday with a money launderer, his 71st eating cake with Bush while New Orleans floods...........I think it's probably time of him to start seriously considering Chuck E. Cheese.

We have more important issues with which to concern ourselves.

THIS is the EXACT kind of crap that MoveOn or the DNC should make an ad out of!! Where is Howard Dean?

I'm having a hard time drawing clear distinctions between republican candidates, republican campaign managers, lobbyists and con men. Can somebody point out to any serious differences?
