I'm with Stupid
Jonah Golberg says John McCain probably can't use a computer because he was a POW:
Does anyone know why McCain doesn't use a computer or email? As a couple readers suggested to me, it might be because his injuries prevent it. I mean he can't lift his arms much higher than his chest and it looks like he has all sorts of other mobility problems with them. Maybe he can't type or use something like a blackberry. I don't know. But I hope the Obama campaign found out before they played the granpa Simpson card on McCain. I'd hate for Obama to be mocking a veteran's disability to score cheap points.

Don't be scared, Obama Supporters. I'm still optimistic that we will prevail in the end. Fools like Jonah Goldberg will be analyzing why it all went wrong when this election is over.
Sorry to start OT, but:
"Obama Waffles"--WTF?
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hNafTsdlgbSZ8YMoFRDSgrVlEwGwD936205O0
I work at a developmental center for the disabled. We have children without arms who use computers.
Its true. The way the internet and computers were designed, there is no way they can be used without raising your arms above your chest. Even now as I type this on my above-the-shoulder keyboard, I weep for these tortured souls for whom the dream of free porn and music will always be... just out of reach.
But mocking a fella's race to score cheap points, well, that'sjust politics as usual.
I wanna go i nto bidness with somebody marketing "Hanoi Hilton" pajamas. Who's with me?
You're right. McCain can't comb his hair, scratch his nose, salute the flag, tie his shoes. He knows how but is physically unable to.
In honesty, I doubt Obama ever bothered to check. Just like Biden. They simply don't seem to care.
Fortunately for McCain input devices for the handicapped are numerous and very good. Unfortunately for Goldberg none have yet been found to compensate for HIS handicap.
Gosh! I never realized Goldberg was such a compassionate conservative that he even cares about Democrats!
Why do we talk about this nonsense?
You know what I'm more concerned about? The fact he wants to turn more of our children into disabled veterans!! Seriously, this pair of warmongers have pretty much promised us new wars in Iran and Georgia... he wants to get our kids killed. No one talks about it! They say 'ooh that's hawkish' or 'he/she takes a real hard line'. I'm sorry but your hard-line is my child's dead body... and yet we're silent.
People don't get nuance. They don't get policy. They don't get tax plans. Why do we think they'll ever care. It is image and these two should scare the hell out of people, yet we let it pass by. That is the front line we win this on.
They can't fight back against it. It's the emotional appeal that will work. These fuckers can lie their way out of everything except the fact to fight these wars they're going to have to start stacking bodies.
You don't need to lift your arms above your head to use a computer. Unless you are throwing it.
I can't find any excuse for McCain being unable to use a computer, period.
A laptop certainly negates any physical limitations of having to stretch and reach a keyboard.
I learned the hard way, he has millions of dollars and hundreds of people who could help him learn to push the "ON" button and find out.
I call Bullshit!
My mother is 82 and is literally afraid to use the DVD player, the new stove, an answering machine or a computer. Her world is very small indeed as her fear of being unable to use technology keeps her almost isolated from the world around her. I saw similar behavior in my father as he began the slow decline of alzheimer's. McCain shows many indications of sheer inability to connect the dots or push the buttons intellectually.
By the way, I can't tell you how many women I've talked to recently who saw - well I didn't know who I was going to vote for - but that Sarah Palin is just plain scary. I'll vote for Obama.
Maybe McCain was beaten with a Univac when he was in captivity and developed an aversion to electronics
From the guy who called his wife a c*** and cracks rape jokes?
From the guy who votes against veterans' interests on a regular basis?
From the guy who screwed around on his disfigured/disabled wife?
I'm more inclined to believe that it's because he's old and it
makes him nervous. My father acts the same way, he's 69.
We got him a cell phone and showed him how to use it and
he was just never really interested. My mother has embraced the
computer and the cell phone, but he's just not interested.
This type of response is exactly why the Obama ad was weak and lame to begin with; it left that grey area open where the right can throw it right back at Obama, as mocking Mc Cains war injuries. It was a bad ad. Period. Obama needs to start running ads that use Mc Cain's OWN WORDS against him. Not this amateur garbage.
The "I can't use a computer" thing has been around for months. If there was a compelling reason that McBush is computer illiterate, as opposed to too slow to learn anything, wouldn't he have raised it in his defense long ago?
I know a kid of 20 who is paralyzed and don't have full use of his arms. But somehow he knows how to get his laptop open and use a pencil to type. He also sells computers that he refurbishes with the help of his mom.
I take Jonah forgot that technology of voice command programs that work with our computers.
I maybe handicapped because I don't have full use of my left arm and can't do law enforcement work anymore, but that didn't stop me from working as a graphic designer/artist and computer techie after the the day I retired.
Give me a break, you insignificant little twit Jonah.
Please refer to the multiple and truthful comments to yet another POW excuse in the Off the Bus section of the Huffpost. Also, there was a front page article of this in the LA Times to which many people left comments. The upshot of this discussion is that there are multiple technological devices which allow the most disabled people to communicate and yes, send emails. These various devices have been out there for 15-20 years. The fact is McCain is too lazy and too incurious to think a computer is important--which does make Obama's point. I work with severely disabled children under the age of 10 who use these devices easily and effectively every day who use the internet and send emails. Also, Mccain seems quite able to punch in keys on a cell phone or as one person has said--to push the "vote" key in the Senate. This is the lamest of excuses and even if partially correct, the problem could have been easily rectified many years ago. Think of the renowned physicist, Stephen Hawkings. Think of the maimed and mutilated men and women home from Iraq, some without hands (Remember the young man at Reagan's funeral) who most certainly learn to function despite their horrible disabilities. McCain and his cronies are shameless and unconscionable.
fastfeat @ 2:
It says Family Research Council as in Tony Perkins, who also had no problem buying David Dukes KKK mailing list for $87,000.
Golberg is a guy whose knowledge if history and political science is so limited that he believes Fascism is a progressive phenomenon.
Can't he use a mouse? Use a pen? Can he sign stuff? Damn, no Presidential Signing Statements for McCain!
Clearly, McCain has no disabilities at all in the area of scoring cheap points.
Yesterday I was part of a crew working with Rick Hoyt, a quadriplegic who has suffered from Cerebral Palsy since birth. He uses a computer quite well. ( see www.teamhoyt.com )
I don't think Goldberg wants to go down this road. To use McCain's injuries he received during Vietnam as an excuse for his lack of computer skills will only focus the public's attention back onto McCain's medical records which he refuses to fully disclose.
Right, Stephen Hawkings can use a computer, but McCain is too disabled. Right, Mr. Goldberg.
I'd hate for Goldberg to be trying to suggest that disabled people cannot operate a computer, just to score cheap political points.
Stephen Hawking operates a compter, and I'm pretty sure he can't lift his arms either.
Does Goldberg even think for two minutes before he writes these things?
A millionare Senator can get access to whatever assistive computer tech he needs.
John McCain is for the ownership society. You're on your own. None of this disabilities mamby pamby stuff.
Miatch @ 25:
Shit!
Now that's a good point.
an open letter from Stephen Hawking to John McCain on computers and handicaps...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqj5TZkEtGo
I wondered why this popped up earlier on another site. Here we go, days of "poor POW" crap.
What's Goldberg's excuse for being such a wanker? He wasn't a POW
Anyway, when you're worth $100 million, you can get a pretty damn sweet voice activated computer, but that's besides the point. McCain can write, he signs autographs without any problem. He can point, he does it when he speaks, so he could peck a keyboard. And, since most people don't hold their computers over their heads, McCain's limited arm mobility is no reason for him to be computer illiterate.
In fact, there are only so many reasons to explain his computer illiteracy:
1. He is so rich he has servants that do that for him.
2. He is so old he has no grasp of the Internets.
3. He is so old he has not interest in new technologies.
4. He is getting senile and is not capable of learning new technology.
Goldberg's arguement is interesting for another reason though. He's looking to get sympathy for the poor old POW. And, God knows, the McCain campaign is sure intent on keeping the sympathy going for their little picked-on pit bull, Saracudda.
Are the rest of us supposed to believe that two such frail, weak, in need of protection, candidates such as McCain and Palin are ready to be the leader of the Free World?
They can't even face the press. McCain hasn't given a press conference for months. Hell, the women on the View had him flustered, what would he do if he had to face a real enemy?
And Saracudda? Give me a break. Gibson was a walk in the park. When she obviously didn't know what the hell she was talking about, he fed her the info. And when she reverted to repeating talking points, he let her off. And when she repeated her lies, he let it go.
And now the campaign handlers will spoon feed us Sean Hannity asking her softball questions.
Are we supposed to believe that shows her readiness to lead? Lead what? A bake off?
I can see it now, Biden points out her lies, she bursts into tears and McCain challenges Obama to a deal. Goldberg calls Democrats mean.
This is getting more like a bad Coen brothers movie everyday, no offense to the Coen brothers.
obiwan @ 10:
Personally, I prefer the under-handed pitch. Unless I'm at work where the windows don't open. /s
The reason he doesn't know how to use a computer is because he has people to do it for him.
If he can dial a phone, or push the buttons on a phone, he can use a keyboard. Someone check and find something he typed on a typewriter after he returned from Vietnam.
Ummm That is BS because if Stephen Hawking can use a computer than McCain can!
here4tehbeer @ 22:
Yeah, if anybody is going to score cheap points using McCain's time as a POW...it's going to be McCain, dammit! He already has score dozens and dozens this election season alone. Cheap POW points are McCain's turf!
Ummm That is BS because if Stephen Hawking can use a computer than McCain can!
Ummm That is BS because if Stephen Hawking can use a computer than McCain can! Seriously.
I didn't like that ad either.
Sorry to copy you Miatch. I see that you just made the same point about Hawking.
So how many people have their keyboards and mouse abvoe their chests?
This is stupidity on a profound level.
Just as I will never know what a colorblind person sees, I will never be able to comprehend what life must be like for one of Jonah's limited cognitive ability. How would you ever figure out where to go in the morning and what to do once you got there?
What must it be like to be that stupid?
Makes me wonder how John wipes? Perhaps he doesn't bother. Seems quite Republican, no care for personal or country hygiene. On second thought, he has 170 lobbyists kissing his ass all day.
Ah, Jonah Goldberg, my favorite whack-job neo-con concern troll.
There is possibly nothing worth reading by Jonah Goldberg. Unless, of course, you want a lesson on what not to do when trying to support an argument and still have it considered credible.
Filthy Harry "Its true. The way the internet and computers were designed, there is no way they can be used without raising your arms above your chest. Even now as I type this on my above-the-shoulder keyboard, I weep for these tortured souls for whom the dream of free porn and music will always be… just out of reach."
Freakin' funny, man!
I've got a degree in electrical engineering.
Can figure out most math-based problems.
But definitely an amateur at internet actions.
If he can roll the dice at the craps table, which we know he can, he has the manual dexterity to click a mouse and hunt - and - peck on the keyboard.
OMFG!!! Is Jonah serious? What wont they use the POW card with. I can't read, I was a POW. I don't like cute cuddly puppies, I was a POW. I like Pizza Hut but I don't like Domino's because I was a POW. I never learned how to play solitaire because I was a POW......
Steve @ 15:
I hate to point this out to you but everything against McCain gets turned into his POW history.
Mocking his forgetting how many houses he owns, well as a POW he only had 1 house.
Health care plan is horrible? Well John McCain knows something about horrible health care when he was a POW.
Not in the cone of silence? To even suggest that a former POW would cheat is just beneath the pale.
Can someone please find some video of McCain from a year ago? I swear his "disability" has become much more pronounced since the campaign began. Not to say he doesn't have one, but it has seemed much more obvious lately.
If so, is he exaggerating it for sympathy? Or has his health deteriorated? And, if so, how would we know?
POW's have a shorter lifespan, statistically. They have more mental issues. They have higher rates of PTSD, which also tends to more physical issues.
How would we know if his health is declining?
We could ask Sarah, I guess. She stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
John McCain: A noun, a verb, and POW.
Remember when Bush's campaign ripped him for having mental problems from spending time in the Hanoi Hilton?
Oh Billy @ 46:
I picked a completely unqualified christofacist for a running mate bacause I was a POW. And I can reach her ass.
Keep focusing on the trivial C&L and you'll really score points in the echo chamber. As I said in another thread, I will not vote for McCain but the Obama campaign is sinking like the Titanic. However at least some of those souls has dignity.
Let's just say that McCain is playing the victim card. It's rather ironic, considering he belongs to a party that blames women and people of color for "being victims" because they discuss sexism and racism.
If the conservatives are so against victims, why did they rally behind this man?
next thing you know, the mcsame campaing will claim that McSame did not sign the GI bill because his POW injuries prevented him from physically doing so.
They're going downhill and they know it.
Filthy Harry @ 4:
BEST FUCKING COMMENT EVER. I bow at your sarcastic wit!
I’m shooting from the hip here so corrections and clarifications are welcome.
Al Gore is ridiculed for saying he “invented” the Internet, when what he said that he was responsible for “the creation of” the internet. By that he was referring to his efforts to get government support for the infrastructure that makes the Internet possible.
If I interpret that correctly, that would involve establishing earmarked funds.
In government you need to use judgment and distinguish good programs that may seem silly on the surface from those that are merely funneling money to your cronies back home.
If it were up to John McCain, there would be no Internet.
"So the Republicans have decided to run against themselves. The bums have tiptoed out
the back door and circled around to the front and started yelling, "Throw the bums out!"
They've been running Washington like a well-oiled machine, to the point of inviting lobbyists into
the back rooms to write the legislation, and now they are anti-establishment reformers dedicated
to delivering us from themselves."
Then they spew country first and the ignorant masses fall for it again. Ignoring the destruction of their country.
Bravo gop, bravo.
Jonah Goldberg's grandmother should have had an abortion.
he's lazy and he's a blast from the past. many people have disabilites and use computers. i believe he may have some difficulties with concentration.
i heard in an interview mcLiar said he hated 'YouTube'. we know why it catches him lying......he tells people what they want to hear. he may be a hero from the past but he
sure doesn't act like a honorable hero now.
JimboSlice @ 47:
pissed off patricia @ 33:
And consider Bushmeat's (43) reason for not using e-mail. He doesn't want to leave a trail (even though the Administration's e-trail has been erased behind them as they go). (:>
Don Webber @ 56:
Was that "shooting from the hip" remark a crack at McCain because he can't raise his weapon anymore because he was a POW?
Shame on you.
I can't use a keyboard when it's balanced on my head either. I can only raise my left arm above my shoulder but not my right. I have no problem using a keyboard. As far as I can see McCain has no problem using his hands.
Abraham Jackemoff @ 13:
They tied him to a UNIVAC while a card puncher spit a steady flow of cardboard circles up his nose until he couldn't breathe. Then they stripped him and put his ass on a hot line printer. $100 million in third hand dough and seven houses only slightly relieve the anguish.
i say play that 'meet the press' lie on his knowledge
regarding the economy. i agree point out that the
mcLiar/falin campaign is less than truthful.
Look dumbassed C&L, McCain is like any other pol, manager etc. He has staff if he needs info. They research, give him a synopsis and that's what he works from. It's not necessary for him to personally know how to use a computer. Get over it.
Focus on the BIG PICTURE and stop with these trivialities.
i'll do it. john mccain's an old, dying breed of washington politics that doesn't deserve a seat in the white house, much less access to the red button. if he's so fond of reminiscing about the days of lore in the prison camp, maybe he should head on back to the far east. we don't need him.
"I’d hate for Obama to be mocking a veteran’s disability to score cheap points."
i winder if he means like the repube did to john kerry. bandaids with purple hearts.
JoeMarasmus @ 1:
Electoral college votes are what counts, correct?
Obama's out front.
http://www.270towin.com/
May-be,just may-be he could use the computer if he wasn't devoid of any humanity when he was indiscriminately bombing men, women and babies in an undeclared, immoral and unconstitutional corporate profit insanity of an invasion of a sovereign country. That's where his injuries came from and he's luckier that the poor bastards he had no problem offing. I'm sure he'll defend and support the constitution if elected.
grumpyoldvet @ 66:
Gumpy Old Vet ... is that you McCain? Did they finally teach you how to get on?
I have had shoulder surgery and cannot raise one of my arms above shoulder height. Fortunately I CAN use a computer. That excuse is very lame to say the least. My thoughts are McCain just isn't smart enough to figure out how to use a computer; although kindergarteners are using computers every day. He wants to play his disability for sympathy. How sad.
Obama=McCain
Which one of these dumbass liars is going to actually lower gas prices? Sick of listening to both these liars.
Distract-distract-distract. I refuse to believe the various Republicans who continue to use outlandish claims in favor of the McCain ticket and in criticism of the Obama ticket ARE THIS STUPID. The key is to garner a response, not to engage in legitimate debate but to keep us away from doing our due diligence in supporting Obama with donations and volunteer efforts. This criticism by Goldberg is designed to alter the emotions of a very strong Obama base into ridiculous side issues.
Donate, volunteer, work the call bank. Stick to the issues. The Republican virus continues to infect the citizenry of America but, like a vampire, these mendacious claims cannot stand the light of day.
WTF! Does this guy get paid to say things like this. Hey Jonah, do these injuries prevent McCain from wiping his ass too...What a baffoon!
When John McCain admitted that he was not computer literate, he didn't say a word about it having anything to do with POW injuries. It's not like he's shy and modest about that sort of thing, so I'm fairly sure that he would have mentioned it.
Jeez, give me a break.
obiwan @ 10:
Knowing McCain's temper, that may be what's discouraged him.
JimboSlice @ 71:
No, I am not McCain, but you are obsessed with the trivial and miss the larger issues. Many, many people over 65, those Obama has a problem with, cannot use a computer, cell phone, Ipod and many other electronics. SO WHAT, does that make them DUMB. No but C&L expending all this space on this stupidity misses the larger issues. People have economic issues they need help with. But go ahead, talk about this and see where it lands the campaign.
Hey people....Bill Gates MAKES computers, not just operates them...ever listened to him? I saw him at the University of Waterloo and he's a batshit crazy rich person that cares about nothing more than money...want him as a leader? Ya right
Admittedly, as you get older, learning new skills can become more difficult. I don't think that the add was a particularly good way to illustrate that McCain is frozen in time but then I'm not part of the demographic at which the add was aimed. I suspect the argument will resonate with the generations that have grown up hammering at keyboards.
ConcernedCanuck @ 79:
we don't need lectures on our politics from canadians.
Every day, I see Jon Lovitz on Satuday Night Live as Dukakis saying about Bush, "I can't believe I'm losing to this guy." I don't think we are losing, but I can't believe Obama isn't 20 points ahead.
I can't believe that people would rather have a very nasty old guy and a very underqualified religious zealot than a smart guy with new ideas who happens to be a black man. It's kind of disheartening, and I don't like what it says about our country.
ConcernedCanuck @ 73:
what's obama lying about? i know what mccain is lying about i listened to it all week. actually why don't you ask bush what's he going to do he's in office.
the speculators caused the drastic increase in oil prices.
one major reason.. the value of u.s. dollar. gas prices are a complex problem. obama said we have to diversify energy sources nobody has a quick fix. so get a grip.
.
Computer illiteracy IS NOT a veterans disability...
.
woody, tokin librul @ 5:
hanoi hilton pajamas, along with a "mac the singing canary" songbook...
ya'll know mccain was never tortured, under the bush administration definition of torture, right?
You heard it here first...
To coin a phrase, John McCain is afflicted with Cognitive Psoriasis [tm],
Newly coded ICD-9 290.115
ConcernedCanuck @ 73:
Is that all you guys think about? Jesus, it's either your wallet or your dick. Don't you know that higher gas prices have saved lives? Read Harper's. It's in there.

McCain should use his veterans benefits to get some computer education...

Ya cuz you are soooooooooo good at picking your leaders...May I remind you of Bush, Bush Sr., "wax my turnip" Clinton, Ronnie Raygun, Richard Nixon, etc, etc, etc......
Jo @ 88:
Don't really care as much about other lives anymore...sick of working 60+ hours a week and falling further and further into debt while American influence destroys the globe.......pick a damn real leader once......your country, right or wrong, is supposed to lead, not destroy
Miatch @ 25:
Hawkings is a great example, but there are plenty of keyboards (McCain's claimed problem)
for handicapped people.
For you Washington Journal regulars the guy from Silver Springs MD who used to violate their 30 day rule by calling in every day brought this up this morning. The only problem is that McCain himself recently admitted that he needed to get on them internets and use e-mail. Maybe Trig will show him how before the end of his first term. That is if the country should be so unfortunate to be unable to stop this computer illiterate tool's minions from fixing another election.
can't social security help him out. i know he hates social
security but he accepts the monthly check of $1,930.00
anyways.
I once met a senior software architect at IBM that was blind. He would write code and frequently debug peoples problems in newsgroups and he was blind. This is a McLame argument.
ConcernedCanuck @ 90:
i never said we were. i'm saying your opinion is irrelevant. who cares what you think about "lack of" gas price policy? as if you would know. you're not voting, you can hate both of them all you want. but it adds nothing to the discussion.
This is too good! Apparently the McCain campaign has been lying about the size of the crowd's that have been coming to see McCain, both before and since Palin joined the ticket.
I wonder why they'd lie about that when they kept claiming that it didn't matter that McCain can't even draw flies.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601070&sid=a1J0tfV3XJYs&refer=p...
I'm sure its all because he was a POW.
Peter G @ 80:
Yeah, maybe, Peter. But 50% of those people all think Sarah is a sweet lookin' mama. And a good percentage of the other half are keen on having a woman in the White House.
Worse than a big whiff for Obama. Big swing and a miss and he hits himself on the back of the head with the bat.
The man is shameless, and his supporters will defend him on every mistake he makes.
Not all though. Some are freaking the F*ck out.
grumpyoldvet @ 79:
So you think that identity theft which has been advanced to serious levels of crime because of technology is not an issue considering economics etc etc?
Jo @ 88:
Not to go to far off topic here but I wanted to reply on this issue. Those higher gas prices also prevent supply shortages. The Texas oil refineries have taken a direct hit from Ike and with a good 25% of the nation's oil refineries shut in for some time because of it low gas prices would create nationwide gasoline shortages pretty fast.
taller ghost walt @ 56:
I agree, Let's ask Jonah where his keyboard is. On top of refridge?
Daingel @ 101:
What the hell are you talking about?. I'm outta here because this is one dumb site.
Golly why didn't obama pick Bill Gates or Steve Jobs as the VP if he want a computer geek. Instead he picks biden who has ran for and not even made a showing for presdient FIVE....GET THAT FIVE times.
And of course it is a cheap shot. obama knows the bouncy dancing zonked out kids will defend him and the viagra poppers as well.
Joe O. @ 102:
Very good point.
He'd better be able to use a pen...he holds one out at rallies and tells the ROARING CROWD how he'll VETO those earmark requests...MEMBER? If he can sign his name he COULD use a computer...that's just nonsense...but, of course, if they choose to use that excuse and fire back at Obama because of the poor POW...it will all get sucked right in....
Is it panic and fear that is driving this insane push to AD HOMINEM attacks on John McCain and Sarah Palin? Is this the divine and clever Axelrod plan to destroy the republicans in the last few weeks? Sarah -- did not give birth/her daughter did/and who really fathered it ---- book banning/here's the list ----- she is nothing/no executive experience -- her son is a drug addict/theif -----------at long last, democrats where is the decency?..........And attacking McCain as too old (have ya checked the Supreme Court?) and he is a computer illiterate(he has called himself that for years-- the Boston Globe in 2000, however pointed out his inability to comb his hair, tie his shoes, or use a keyboard)...............And the last one, to call Sarah --- Pontius Pilate to obama's community organizer(baby jesus)............well fuck me, this is just about the most supid and rancorous political attack I have ever seen in a presidential election. There is no need to jack off here, obama's base is in to the bitter end.........he and his must play the game with style and class or it is over. And my final bit is this: If obama was leading 10 to 20 points as most assumed after his Mile-High speech in Denver.......you would be saying Sarah WHO? THIS YEAR and what a year--- 1st Hillary, then not---2nd obama, then maybe not ---- 3rd McCAin maybe yes............who would've ever thunk it?
He doesn't use computers, etc, because he doesn't have to. As with many powerful/rich people, he has staff for that. I wonder when the last time was he drove himself or opened his own door.
grumpyoldvet @ 79:
I know quite a few people over 65 that have no problem using a computer. 65 is not really that old unless you spent the past ten years before 65 drinking and sitting on your ass. AS far as the issues, when McCain starts talking about them instead of making commercials about Obama's celebrity status then maybe we could actually talk about the issues. Let's remember, it was McCains campaign chief who said it's not about issues, it's about personalities. At least he hopes people are dumb enough to believe this.
McCain eats with a fork from the table doesn't he? If he's able to feed himself, he can use a keyboard. He doesn't use a computer because his head is one solid piece of bone.
Stephen Hawkings uses a computer. They make adapters if you need one. That's what the Government check McCain gets for being disabled is for!
One thing more Daingel, this is about the ELECTION not Identity theft. Yes, that is a problem but not jermain to this board and this topic. Try to stay focused and don't change the topic. You sound like a Republican when he/she is losing an argument.
Anyhow. it's been quite interesting to read the responses.
Jo @ 106:
Bull and Shit.......they use any damn excuse to raise gas prices......it's sunny, prices go up...it's raining, prices go up......it's election time......prices go up......I'd just for once love for my nation to actually get our gas for the right price for a change instead of paying what the world does.......I say cut off the pipeline to the US and keep it here.....screw it.
dennis @ 99:
actually, it's the neocons panicking. if mccain had picked romney, they'd be at least marginally credible on the economy.
as it is, you're team is stuck w/ an american idol also-ran trying to doctor up mr. potatohead.
no credibility on the economy, no credibility on foreign policy (checkoslovockeeuh? soonies? sheeites?), no credibility on basic history or geography.
a f$cking puppet show put on by the m-i-c and big oil fatcats.
meanwhile, vlad putin & china are laughing their @$$es off all the way to the bank.
OBAMA/BIDEN '08
grumpyoldvet @ 79:
True, an older person's lack of ability to use a computer or any other form of technology doesn't make them dumb but then again, those people aren't running for the highest office in the land either. For a Presidential candidate like McCain, the lack of an ability to use that technology is just another indication that his ideas are out dated and that he is out of touch with the world we live in today.
grumpyoldvet @ 104:
Computer crimes which have increased 45% over the last 6 years, in which crediat card numbers are stolen, social security numbers stolen, or pretty much given out on the web because of my state's former Secretary of State Blackwell. Corporation computers being raided to grab all the credit card numbers. Laptops being stolen at a rate of 1 out of 6. Then there's the records of phishing and e-mail frauds. Lord knows how many people are stupid enough to fall for the Nigerian letters, or think they actually won a lottery in a country they've never been too.
That's what I'm talking about.
Dennis@99 "The man is shameless, and his supporters will defend him on every mistake he makes." A pretty apt description of McCain and yourself I might say. Tell us about those secret Goldwater-Kennedy debates that took place on the border of Iraq and Pakistan. Tell us how and when Palin became the renowned energy expert. It's nice that you've admitted that the only reason Palin is on the ticket is that she's a "sweet lookin' mama".
*your
Look at his pix in the press. If he can hold a pen to write and his dick to piss, he's physically capable of operating a fscking computer.
What would that tub of lard know about military disabilties?
dennis @ 99:
Wow, there may be hope for you troll after all. That is the first true thing you have said about McCain during all your defecation exercises you like to call posts in this forum.
BTW, the projection capabilities of your ilk would give Freud a "hard on."
ConcernedCanuck @ 113:
Ah the old NEP. The national energy policy that proved to be such a disaster. Didn't work then and won't work now. Those are provincial resources and the federal government couldn't get away with it if they tried. Furthermore our NAFTA obligations guarantee equal access to those resources to the U.S.
Computers are used by quadrapaligics. Voice recognition systems...STUPID! Keyboards can be put in a lap. If McCain tries to use his disablility as an excuse for inability to do things he has done a great disservice to all persons with disabilities. but why should he care, they were not going to vote for him anyway because the tax cuts I'll enjoy will be paid for in cuts to the programs for the disadvantaged.
Bit of blame to C&L. You made this credible by giving this turd a platform to scream from off. Weren't it for the very mention of this idiot I wouldn't have known about this complete load of crap! Jonah is the one who should apologize to all those disabled people who in spite of their situation are perfectly capable of using a computer in everyday life.
Stephen Hawking for president! Yay!!!
ConcernedCanuck @ 113:
Its not bulls--t as you call it. Its simple supply and demand. If the supply of a good is reduced (I.E. Hurricane Ike shutting down oil refineries) and demand does not drop you have supply shortages. When that happens the only other option a Government has is to import more refined oil products from other nations to make up for those shortages. You seem to forget that the U.S. burns though an enormous amount of refined oil products each day. Higher gas prices reduce that demand. I don't like paying those prices either but its a lot better than the alternative which is fuel shortages.
There are much larger issues to discuss and this interest in the Internet and computer skills is beyond strange. I am sure the leaders of the world are directly emailing or texting other Heads of State on a regular basis. "Get Real". OBAMA is all talk about change. There is no indications he will go against Pelosi or Reed on any issue. Point, his statement about I will reach across the isle, Not... Did he acknowledge Senator Lieberman for standing up for what he believes, no...! Did OBAMA demand Pelosi and Reed return to "work" to energy crisis, No...!. Well so much for OBAMA leadership skills. A vote for OBAMA translates to Ms. Pelosi being in charge of the country. Do you really want that to happen? I don't......
P.S. Al Gore did not invent the Internet.
Ginger Oaks @ 123:
Indeed.
I have 2 words for the McCain can't type because he was a POW apologists: STEPHEN HAWKING.
McCain can't type an e-mail because he is handicapped, it is because he is an idiot.
'it's NOT sarah who' because the RED team is marketing the hell out of her. this was political stunt. recall what rove said if obama would have picked governor kaine.
sarah palin is the weakest link. i knew that when she was announced on that friday morning....this is a marketing scheme. the mccain campaign is using persuasion,
manipulation and decepetion. mcLiar didn't want her it's
common chatter. the RED team freaked out after the
denver convention so they pulled a moose out of a hat.
i watched sarah palin in those interviews i didn't need to be told she did below average.obama doesn't care about palin the people do. they're trying to make it seem that way. she's the weakest link and it's obvious
to anyone with average grey matter.anytime you ask
about her experience the response you getis a question ie. what about obama.....self-deception. palin supporters are being manipulated to get them to believe they know the truth..... when in fact they don't. putting time at challenging palin is prudent/smart....she will a heartbeat away.....your a fool if you can't see that's she is NOT ready....if ever to be president.
Uthink @ 126:
The "change" thing was so bad that the Republicans have adopted it as their own. You have a very strange view of things. There is no reason that either Pelosi or Reid will keep their present positions under a new administration. They don't hold life positions.
Goldberg is worthless as a commentator, as this silly bilge demonstrates.
Hey, he can certainly dexterously twist that wedding ring around on his finger. He does that all the time when he's nervous like on The View. Or watching Sarah Palin.
P.S. He never said that he invented the internet. He said he was supported legislation that helped create the internet. The liars on the right told this lie among others and that in part is why we have the dumbest president of all time in the WH. Now go pat yourself on the back or better yet-do some freaking research. You could start with Snopes or Factcheck.org.
Don't repeat the lies of the reichwingnut mental midgets.
I don't recall Goldberg being nearly so self-righteous about the possibility of anyone mocking veterans injuries, back when the entire RNC was busy mocking John Kerry's war injuries with purple heart band-aids. These people make me ill.
So I guess McSame hasn't been able to use a telephone since 1972 either, huh? Jonah's quite the dumbass, ain't he?
"Jonah Golberg says John McCain probably can’t use a computer because he was a POW: ...I mean he can’t lift his arms much higher than his chest".
Is Jonah Goldber dumber than a box of rocks or what? He doesn't have to lift anything. All he needs is a brain that works.
Madelyn Bomoar @ 3:
Too right. I work for a major media company and we employ blind people as well as people with cerebral palsy and other mobility issues and they use computers. The POW card has well and truly overspent its limit. Time to cut it up and send it back to the company.
I cancelled my subscription to the LAT the day they announced they were going to have this useless warmongering chickenhawk in it. I have never bought another LAT. Jonah is a useless punk who doesn't know what the hell he is talking about.
I'm sure they will use it now!
FLORIDA APPEARS TO BE PRETTY STUPID
Is Smith a reicher? this is the only place I'm hearing this.
when the evangelicals 'prayed' for it to rain during the
denver convention.....that got hurricane Gustav instead.
it was a blessing for them not to have the guy they voted for in 2000 and 2004 be at the convention.
it's interesting they voted for BUSH 2000 a weak governor of texas instead of the POW. now they want
mcLiar he wasn't good enough than but he has ALL the answers now. of course it's easier to have the answers
when you lie. you don't hear much about bush or rarely the word republican. most of the republicans i talk with are foolish and are voting for 'cultural' reasons the biggest scam of manipulating people. they identify with a culture and are afraid to challenge their perceived culture ideals. i can't believe they're falling for this palin nonsense.....this was poor judgement and desparate move by the mccain campaign. there using
the hillary movement and women. the women i know
aren't going for it.
(_)_) @ 135:
tha same logic has sarah facing down vladimir putin.
The is a difference between "change" and "reform".I do believe OBAMA wants to "change" the basic principles and tenants of what makes America great and I believe his record shows he align with Pelosi and Reed. "Check his record" Do you really think Pelosi and Reed is not going to get re-elected. Many of the members of Congress have been there for years.....and enjoy the power. The need for reform of the bloated government is a theme we all understand but I don't think we want to change to a "nanny state"? Do you?
*pulls string on back
"He was a POW, my friends..."
(_)_) @ 135:
No, no, no...Jonah is envisioning McCain's Presidency in outer space, where McCain's keyboard will be floating over his head, past his ass and down by his toes. Think ouside the box, like Lucianne's bright little boy.
I have watched him come off a plane many times on TV holding a cell phone to his ear. If he can do that then he can type on a computer.
Filthy Harry @ 4:
My Keyboard is n my lap and mouse along side of it - at no time does my arms have to go over my chest area. of course there are ways to use them without raising the arms above the chest.
Now if we could just figure out how to keep Jonah Goldberg from using a computer, the world would be a better place.
Gore gave an interview for CNN's Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer on 9 March 1999 in which he stated,
“ During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system. [12]
LOL.
oh boy, I know people who can't see well and use computer, what a dumb excuse . if all that because he can't raise his arm, maybe also he can't make decision, so he can place his arm and scratch his head when thinking. or he can't push the red button when there is a threat, you know the button that cons think is the solution for every crisis.
it seems it is getting ugly, and maybe McCain is going to win, too bad for the US. my friends
.
.
If Stephen Hawking can use a computer then frankly anyone can.
