Sunday Morning Bobble Heads

The Spinners - It's A Shame

While the flyover states deal with nasty weather (much of our video crew lives in the mid-west, so weather has been a major concern), the Beltway Bubble crowd are busy spinning and smearing, and that is most certainly a shame.  Alan Greenspan will be on This Week to spin how even though he doesn't support the McCain tax cuts, the current crappy economy has nothing to do with his policies or endorsements of earlier tax cuts.  And Rudy Giuliani will be on Meet the Press to smear the Obama campaign on behalf of McCain, and let's be honest, to talk about how everything changed on 9/11.  And FEMA's David Paulison will be on Late Edition to tell us how much they've learned since Katrina.  Shame on all of them.

ABC's "This Week" - Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.; Carly Fiorina, adviser to John McCain; former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan.

CBS' "Face the Nation" - Gov. Janet Napolitano, D-Ariz.; Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas; Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla.; former acting Gov. Jane Swift, R-Mass.

NBC's "Meet the Press" - Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, R-N.Y.; Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.; Bob Woodward, associate editor for The Washington Post and author of a new book on the Bush administration.

CNN's "Late Edition" - R. David Paulison, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency; Govs. Tim Pawlenty, R-Minn., and Bill Richardson, D-N.M.; Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.; Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.; Linda Douglass, adviser to Barack Obama; Nancy Pfotenhauer, adviser to McCain.

"Fox News Sunday" - Former Gov. Tony Knowles, D-Alaska; Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, R-Alaska; Jim Laychak, president of the Pentagon Memorial Fund.

"The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Mark Whitaker, Katty Kay, Patrick Healy, Cynthia Tucker. Topics: Obama's on defense -- are Democrats worrying too soon about his chances? How will women view Palin's decision to balance motherhood and the VP job? Meter Questions: Is Gov. Sarah Palin a smart pick for John McCain? YES: 8 NO: 4; Can McCain beat Obama among swing voters? YES: 2 No: 10

So what's catching your eye this morning?

So what’s catching my eye this morning? the fact that Palin is again absent from all the Sunday shows. How can she be ready to face the world if she can't even Face the Nation?

And FEMA’s David Paulison will be on Late Edition to tell us how much they’ve learned since Katrina.

I wunner if "Duct tape Dave" has a couple of rolls to spare?

So what’s catching my eye this morning?

Well, I'm watching a bunch of flies swarming around and feasting on a
pile of steaming dog shit.

Sort of reminds me of the RNC.

Even without Palin, it appears she'll be the main topic of conversation on at least two shows, just judging by who the guests will be. Two people from Alaska on FNS and 4 women including the leader of the so called "Palin Truth Squad" on Face the Nation. That one should be interesting with Gov. Napolitano and Sen. Hutchison on. I don't know much about Rep. Schultz.

With Greenspan's revelation about McCain's tax cuts, maybe FINALLY we can get the conversation back on the economy where it needs to be. Be interesting to see what he and Woodward have to say. The rest looks like your typical spin sessions.

Bob Woodward is no Bob Woodward.

My major concern with Palin is, that were she to decide to bomb some country, she would not be able to find it on a map.

This could mean she would bomb the wrong one!

Well, come to think of it, John McCain doesn't even know where he is.

Of course with Nukes, it doesn't matter so much where you start, one will lead to another.

We know, or we should know where that can lead. The RAPTURE!

Other than that, she is a smart choice for VP. A fundie creationist book burning gun toting hockey puck is just what the beltway needs.

(end snark/)

I'm disappointed that Pawlenty didn't get picked. I was looking forward to seeing Harland Williams play him on SNL. (not a rumor, just wishful thinking on my part)

Right now Jane Hampsher is facing off against Mona Charen on C-SPANs Washington journal. It'll be up on their web site tomorrow if you miss it. Jane should have her own show.

If the talking heads weren't talking about Palin, do you think they would talk about the economy, illegal war or the fact that the President, VP, and Speaker of the House should all be impeached? Soviet style media. Only certain dems. are allowed to go on these shows now. Sell outs. DLC....... Hillary supporters.

Good Morning Everyone!

I'm watching Jane from firedoglake on Cspan this morning and she's there with a chick named Mona Charen (sp?). Jane has eaten this woman's lunch and is now chewing on her dinner. Jane knows her facts and the other woman knows how to bs. I'll take facts over bs any day.

C-span just showed the clip from SNL last night. Funny stuff with "Palin" and "Hillary". Damn, Tina Fey nailed the Palin character.

OT but a serious question:
In regard to Palin's 80% approval rating in Alaska, wasn't George Bush's somewhere around 90% after his first 18 months in office?

And FEMA’s David Paulison will be on Late Edition to tell us how much they’ve learned since Katrina.

That statement implies that Katrina didn't go exactly like they had hoped. They have managed to rid New Orleans of several minorities and funnel billions of dollars to their friends and families in the name of rebuilding the city in the Republican image. I contend the results are pretty much exactly what what they had hoped for.

Good. But only good for one or two appearances because the guy's a monotone. Most of the country has been spared his smarmy, condescending smile and the way he talks slowly and deliberately from the rostrum like he's addressing idiots. Now, something is up in Bolivia. Hmmmmm, I think I've seen this movie before. Shades of Contra?

That DVD is worrisome, apparently no one here is worried about the extent that the right is willing to go to misinform the public? I haven't heard anything new about the Obama campaign, apparently Palin's appointment did the job, Obama is now going to have to fight to get the attention of undecideds.

That DVD bothers me, seems the right will win at whatever cost. I wonder when, if ever, the press will stop being complicit in this downward slide? I also wonder when, if ever anyone on the left will ever attempt to counter any of the bullshit being fed the public?

Yeah it compliments the "Obama is a secret Muslim" meme going around.

The documentary showcases scenes of Muslim children being encouraged to become suicide bombers, interspersed with shots of Nazi rallies.

The next item in the sequence:

a) "Muslim suicide bombers"

b) "Nazis"

c) "_____________________"

would seem more likely to be

d) "Rethug-Fascist thought-police"

than

e) "masses of struggling Americans suffering under 8 years of tyranny"

but that's just me...

I hope a clip of Giuliani on MtP gets pulled, especially when he's asked about the rhetoric surrounding the surge in Iraq... he makes the amazingly twisted claim that if Obama had been president, he would have pulled the troops out, allowing FAILURE in Iraq. Sorry, but I think if he had been president, we wouldn't have been in Iraq in the first place. Of course Brokaw doesn't call him on that. Giuliani's simply a sleazy, horrible person and I'm offended every time someone refers to him as "America's Mayor."

"It's A Shame"- a most appropriate song considering that the television executives continue to shut out third party candidates with allowing only the Democrats and the Republicans to appear on the corporate airwaves thus giving the impression that only the Democrats and the Republicans should be allowed to run for higher office in this country and disguising the fact, as John MacArthur makes clear in his extremely relevant book You Can't Be President: The Outrageous Barriers to Democracy in America, achieving higher office in the United States is futile unless one is connected to the rich and powerful, as evidenced by Barack Obama and John McCain.

Just watched Rudy G. on MTP.

What a condescending, lying, prick. And that lisp of his makes him that much more annoying. He's second only to GW in annoying speakers.

I'll say one thing though; Republicans sure stick with the script, regardless of the truth. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, they absolutely will not admit to either a mistake, or an out and out lie! It's amazing.

They are still IMPLYING that Obama sponsored legislation to teach sex education to kindergartners. They really know how to appeal to the lowest common denominator (i.e. stupid, uninformed, voters).

What's catching my eye this morning? Since Bush, McCain, Palin and the rest of the neocons seem thrilled that the Cold War is back and are itching for a confrontation with Russia, I'm skipping the bobble heads and watching the 1983 classic "War Games" with Matt Broderick and Dabney Coleman. Fortunately, I don't have a DVD player. But, I must say that I'm disgusted that this fear-mongering crap has devolved into actually sending free copies of right-wing propaganda films directly into Americans' homes.

I'll be breaking it into little pieces before recycling it - and then I'll be emailing my thoughts to the advertising director at the Inquirer.

Honestly, I am looking at McCain and wondering how long he has left to live.

Have you noticed how sunken he looks? Statistically he won't live for another 4 years and voting for him will ENSURE that bat from Alaska becomes the prezidunce and at a time when Russia has sent battlegroups to the Gulf of Mexico to protect her allies there? ARE YOU KIDDING? That dumb twit as Commander in Chief?

Do you want YOUR child serving with her at the helm against Russia AND China, who would ally for this cause?

Come ON now! Is THAT scenario worth keeping your RACISM alive by rejecting Obama because he has SOME black blood? Are you SURE that you yourself don't share the same commonality with the man? If not, just where is YOUR pedigree?

This is what we are up against. We have given way too much power to the most arrogant, ignorant people in the world. American Krackers. Are we going to allow the trailer trash of America to continue leading us off a cliff?

This is the last time we have the choice. If we don't choose right, there won't be a next time.

BY THE WAY, I FORGOT TO MENTION ANOTHER THING ON MY MIND THIS MORNING!

DID YOU KNOW THAT McCain is the SAME size as Dennis Kucinich?

Why does the PROPAGANDIST MAINSTREAM MEDIA PORTRAY Dennis Kucinich as so small in stature, but not McCain?

McCain is so damn old he probably needs a walker to stand at the JOHN!!

Since I wanted to see what havoc Ike wrought-I just did something I never do- watch Wolf Blitzer's sunday show.

The segment with a McCain spokeswoman vs an Obama spokeswoman just ended.
Why would the Obama campaign put this woman on TV?

I'm an independent fully committed to voting against the republicans, but if I were undecided at this point- this segment may have convinced me to stay home.
She gave the mainstream media every excuse to say the distortions are coming from both sides equally.

Now I remember why I never watch this crap.

When I heard Schumer emphasize that there were THREE questions he wanted her to answer, maybe I just sort of faded out at his requests. Sure, releasing her tax info would be great--I'm sure there's probably some creative math there--but I don't see it as a killer issue.

And more importantly, cheating on taxes is an art form, especially for Rethugs. I doubt that revealing any Palin tax discrepancies will sway many to Obama.

Listening to the rebroadcast right now. Jane is GREAT!

Gov. Sarah Palin is using flimsy grounds for withholding potentially embarrassing e-mails from a political supporter-turned-critic.

Former Republican candidate Andree McLeod has appealed the governor's decision to withhold or redact some e-mails and other state records. She's seeking the records in a dispute about the Palin administration's recruiting and hiring decisions. KTUU has reported that some of the withheld e-mails have subject lines referring to Palin critics Andrew Halcro, Dan Fagan and Alaska Ear.

From here it looks like McLeod has a strong case. First, she argues that the governor's office waived executive privilege for any state e-mails sent to Todd Palin, Gov. Palin's husband.

With all due respect to the First Gentleman, he wasn't elected to anything and as far as we know, hasn't been appointed to anything. He's a private citizen. If he's on the e-mail list for state business, those e-mails become public information. The law protects some communications between government officials -- not communications between government officials and private citizens.

I stopped watching the Sunday bobble head shows! What if we all stopped watching them? You think they might start being more truthful? Probably not, but it would be fun to see them talking to an audience of five or less people.

STOP WATCHING THEIR SHOWS!

None of these programs carries any content of interest to me. I have emailed each of their news departments that I will not watch again until they become interested in presenting the truth, leave off with their stupid opinions and "analysis" and begin to provide investigative journalism and informative news as they have a responsibility to provide.

I have also let their sponsors know my feelings. Let these media giants see if they change their tactics when their audience disappears.

I would encourage everyone to voice their displeasure not only here but also directly to the stations involved.
