Welcome to the Dictatorship of the Corporations.
A plague on their houses!
Everyone, please forgive me for bringing Pat Buchanan into any Palin discussion, but he has a VERY informative article regarding what the McCain higher-ups are doing with Palin:

The indoctrination of Sarah Palin...OMG!!!
Demand that Ralph Nader and others be included in the debates!
Found a cassette tape in a thrift store recorded by a fellow named Mike Finnegan, called "Black and White," features a photo of a tall fellow in a tux.
Coincidence of names? I think not.
Under breaking news at JTA
Hillary Clinton pulled out of a Jewish-sponsored rally against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after it was announced that Sarah Palin would participate.
http://www.jta.org/cgi-bin/iowa/home/index.html
The Israeli lobby helped sink Hillary's ability to become the President of the U.S. Her choice to sign the 2002 war resolution was partially due to pressure
Former U.S. secretaries of state say they support talks with Iranfrom the I-lobby. We are well aware that this resolution was used as permission for the eventual invasion of Iraq base on a "pack of lies". And then her war mongering yes vote for the Kyl Lieberman Amendment last fall did not help her path to the White House. In fact it helped sink her chances.
The folks who will be protesting Iranian President Ahmadenjad's visit to the UN are zealots, warmongers and need to be backed down. People around the nation are sick and tired of the disproportionate amount of power and influence that the I-Lobby has. It is destructive and has only served to cause chaos and death and destruction in the middle east ENOUGH!

I coined a new name for Palin: Paleo. And from Dictionary.com, this:
Online Etymology Dictionary - Cite This Source - Share This
paleo-
prefix used in scientific combinations (mostly since c.1870), from Gk. palaio-, comb. form of palaios "old, ancient," from palai "long ago, far back," related to palin "again, backwards," tele- "far off, at a distance," from PIE base *kwel- "to turn, move about," also "far" (in space and time); see cycle.
these in from around the country: (scroll down, funny)

I'm in Eugene now, getting ready to hit Portland, then Seattle.

First of all, Ralph Nader isn't running this year-the Green Party candidate is Cynthia McKinney.
This campaign might be very effective if the debates were indeed framed by the moderators; but they are not. Since 1987, former chairs of the DNC and RNC, co chairs of this committee, http://www.debates.org, sponsor all presidential debates. The topics are approved beforehand by this "commitee of non partisans" from the two major parties. You will hear what they want you to hear; period.
What, you thought the League of Women Voters still sponsored debates in this country?

US Jews Ready for Iranian President
by Hillel Fendel
How many times have we heard John Bolton, Micheal Ledeen, Cheney, Reuel Marc Gerecht, James Woolsey and Israeli leaders repeat unsubstantiated claims about Iran? How many times has IAEA's head Mr. El Baradei asked for all sides to turn down the "inflammatory rhetoric"? Yet Aipac as well as other Jewish organizations continue to inflame the situation.
When will Israel sign the Non Proliferation Treaty? When will Israel state that they will not pre-emptlively strike Iran? I hear Israel threaten Iran far more than Iran threaten Israel.
Professor Juan Cole has directly interpreted the Iranian Presidents speeches when he has talked about Israel. In the MSM all we hear are the warmongers manipulative interpretations of Ahmadenajads words having to do with Israel.
http://www.juancole.com/2007/06/ahmadinejad-i-am-not-anti-semitic.html
They declined to go along with a resolution charging Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad with incitement to genocide, given his alleged call for Israel to be 'wiped off the face of the map.'
As most of my readers know, Ahmadinejad did not use that phrase in Persian. He quoted an old saying of Ayatollah Khomeini calling for 'this occupation regime over Jerusalem" to "vanish from the page of time.' Calling for a regime to vanish is not the same as calling for people to be killed. Ahmadinejad has not to my knowledge called for anyone to be killed.

Does Palin really believe that the Earth is 5,000 years old? Has anyone in the media asked her yet?

I know this is OT but it's very important. Here in Oregon Republican Gordon Smith continues to air ads against Jeff Merkely about serial rapists during what are traditionally family shows. As far as I've seen they don't air them during prime-time. They don't air them on any of the news channels. They only seem to air them during shows like "Jeopardy" and Wheel of Fortune." They even aired it during "Honey, I Shrank The Kids" on the Hallmark Channel at 10:00 in the morning on Sunday.
I called the stations that I've seen it on and complained but they said by law they had to air them whenever the Smith campaign asks them to air them. So I called the Smith campaign and after catching them in a couple of lies, I was told that I didn't like my kids seeing the ads, I "should turn off the TV."
The reason I'm posting this is to ask you kind folks here at C&L to please call the Smith campaign at (503) 210-2008 and tell them how despicable it is that they're targeting children with this ad.
Thanks.

Roadtrip?...Where are you headed?...
Whoops sorry looks like Nader is running under and independent party ticket!
Polls are looking up.. Checking them on realclear now for a number of days, and McCain has been dropping steadily.
It's a statistical dead-heat.
Let's hope for the upcoming debate to push Obama back into a steady lead.
Alice X - (Chomsky Nader) - status quObama - change you can pretend in - @ 3:
are you friggin nuts? I'm all for ideology but Nader is the REASON we have had 8 years of chaos. I know the arguments, i know Gore SHOULD have run a better campaign but the reality is with Nader out of the race in 2000 there is not a friggin tie! Gore wins in a walk. if we have states closer that nader votes again he will again be the problem.
Concerning "The Debate We Need"
I am not one for form letters or online petitions, but I thought this important.
Here is the letter I sent:
Rather than send a form letter, hoping that some sort of point and click activism will help, I feel the need to use my own words.
This is not a game. This is not a sport. This not entertainment to be used as a cynical ploy to increase ratings or the bottom line.
Your words matter. Your questions matter.
You have the unique ability to help us see past the distractions and focus on the task at hand. And the responsibility to do so.
The decision that each of us will have to make on November 4th is a duty that should be handled with care, concern, and deliberate forethought.
It is your job to help us prepare ourselves.
By focusing on facts. By asking questions that enhance our understanding of what policies and positions each candidate holds. By focusing on the true national debates over the economy, health care reform, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, global climate change, and the rule of law.
By not only asking the important questions, but following up and getting answers rather than allowing either candidate to merely state a platitude, null sentence, or lie.
This is what we need from you.
Please help us to have the government we deserve, by helping us to deserve a better government.
Sincerely and with the gravest of concern,
Matt Carlson
Lincoln Nebraska
All the "smart" money was SURE Kerry had bested the Chimp in ALL the '04 debates.
Guess what?
Murkins wanna feel SMARTER than their Preznint, apparently.
Kathleen @ 9:
The reason Israel is called The STATE of Israel is because it is the 51st state of the United States and all of our foreign policy shots are being called from Tel Aviv.
Example? Here are the immediate paces Sarah Palin had to march through:
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=28559
Matt @ 17:
Matt, while your passion and concern are admirable, this is called "pissin into the wind." You get all damp, and it don't change a fuuking thing...
But thanks for your sincere effort.
Nomi Prins on Democracy Now addresses the bailouts.
she states that AIG, Bear Stearns etc were acting as "speculative investment banks/hedge funds.
Why bail out the "gamblers"
http://www.democracynow.org/2008/9/17/us_seizes_control_of_aig_with
" economy being sacrificed to bail out the gamblers"
Kathleen @ 21:
Noni is brilliant and explains the economy in language that a peasant can understand. Obama should pick her up as an economic adviser. This woman is a wiz gal
Just out of curiosity, and admittedly off-topic a bit: What's the difference between someone who uses the cover of a natural disaster to enter unoccupied stores and remove usable merchandise and those 'investors' who hang around those disaster areas to try to manipulate the survivors into 'giving' their property away for a song?
Seems to me the term "looter" fits both cases quite nicely...
We shoot looters, don't we?
Abbybwood @ 19:
I had read that article by Pat. I also read a couple of articles that basically said she was 'vetted" by Lieberman and other right wing radical Israeli firsters. I don't believe this strategy helps Israel at all. This issue is not going away
scarlet p. @ 7:
I'm a fan. With your inspiration, I have been leaving post it notes (usually with the single word "Impeach!") all around. I especially like sticking them to Hummers.
Thanks for your work.
If a fundie's teenaged son asked if the dichotomous nature of anthropological perceptions was due to the bi-hemisphericity of our neurocognitive structures, would they wash his mouth out with soap?
Or if it's their teenaged daughter asking they'd break out a video cameral.

Do you have to be bisexual to run for a bicameral legislature?
The ad that won Obama this election:

getalife @ 27:
That's the ad that Scarboy laughed at this morning...
Joe is making fun of it because.......
Lets socialize big oil for cheap gas.
Let's socialize health care like Canada.
The door is open.
w killed capitalism and opened the door to socialism.
Chavez is laughing today.
Patrick @ 16:
I never hear a peep complaining about the votes that Buchanan got on the right.
Never a peep.
You are 'all for ideology'?
I am not for ideology. I am for a political discourse that deals in realities and not crap that we are getting.
Nader isn't the problem but he would be a solution.
When Obama was for the fourth amendment I was for him, I donated FOUR times to his campaign.
After he was no longer for the fourth amendment, I was and continue to be off the bus.
That isn't ideology, it is the Constitution.
If Nader is in the debates serious political discourse takes over.
Otherwise watch for more of the crap we have been getting.
woody, tokin librul @ 20:
Yeah, don't be a chump who gives a damn and is willing to do something, be a cynic like the kwel kids
getalife @ 29:
If my family can get health care he can laugh all he wants. Apparently you're confused. Socialism isn't some evil ideology. Inearly 20th centuryAmerica, people were running for office as Socialists and winning lots of support. The republicans hadn't sufficiently demonized the word at that time, so the rubes weren't frightened by the term.
Sarah Palin on Israel: Frightening
The truth is, pretty much EVERY American politician on Israel is frightening. And the media: look at how they jumped all over Jimmy Carter for his statements on the apartheid treatment of the Palestinians...
I modified and sent that petition. I'm concerned about more crappy, dangerously misleading questions during the debates.
Jesus was a community organizer, Pontius Pilate was a Governor
And the latter was very limber
What with all the Pilate classes he was taking.
