Epic Fail: Palin can't answer softball question about national security experience at first town hall meeting
Probably because she doesn't have any. At all. Well, not unless you count the proximity of Alaska to Russia. Sarah Palin made her first unscripted appearance Wednesday at a town hall meeting with John McCain and proved exactly why the McCain campaign has tried their damnedest to keep her as far away from those things as possible. In this clip, a questioner throws up a softball about national security cred and Palin can't remember her talking points about being able to see Russia from some remote island or that she's the "Commander-in-Chief" of the Alaska National Guard.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Governor Palin, there has been quite a bit of discussion about your perceived lack of foreign policy experience. And I want to give you your chance. If you could please respond to that criticism and give us specific skills that you think you have to bring to the White House to rebut that or mitigate that concern.
PALIN: Well, I think because I'm a Washington outsider that opponents are going to be looking for a whole lot of things that they can criticize and they can kind of try to beat the candidates here, who chose me as his partner, to kind of tear down the ticket. But as for foreign policy, you know, I think that I am prepared and I know that on January 20th, if we are so blessed as to be sworn into office as your president and vice president, certainly we'll be ready. I'll be ready. I have that confidence. I have that readiness.
And if you want specifics with specific policy or countries, go ahead and you can ask me. You can even play stump the candidate if you want to. But we are ready to serve.
Turns out the town hall was pre-ticketed and she still couldn't answer the question coherently. Sheesh.
McCain town hall style meetings are generally open to the public where anyone may wait in line on the day of the event and come in without an advanced invitation.
However, at tonight’s 3,500 person townhall in Grand Rapids, Michigan–the first time Palin is taking questions from the public– only ticketholders are allowed in.

She's a politician, you expect a straight answer? I have only ever gotten one politician to answer the actual question I asked.
Epic?
NO one expected a real answer did they? They aren't discussing policy as the election is all about personalities!
First?
OUCH!!!!
That's going to leave a mark
"Play 'Stump the Candidate'"? Do they think that this is a game? Oh, wait. Of course they do.
"I will be ready"
That basically says "Actually i don't know jack about foreign policy, but i'm reading the cliff notes."
where's the rest of the clip?
So essentially, her skills are: No skills, but the abilty to be vague.
She Forgot ...." I know you are but what am I?"
God Damned Tina Fey... holding her own meetings. What? she? really? you mean...?
Well I was a POW....
Can I just say for the record... "AAAAhahahahahahah hahahaha hahahahah hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ah aahahahahahahaha!"
Feel free to quote me on that.
Member of Alaska National Guard Also Slams Palin's National Security Credentials
Uuuuuhhhh, what was the question again?
OT sort of.
this is scary beyond belief
Say farewell to money, even T-bills are toxic now
GWb, Bushco, and WcCain that master of finance, Chimpy's legacy writ large.
"Play stump the candidate".
Oh, if only they did...
"How long is the border between Iraq and Afghanistan?"
Lars @ 8:
Like mcsame I expect she's used to just screeching a little and throwing a few things and having everyone around her jump to do her bidding. Having to actually explain herself is really taxing that itty bitty brain of hers to the max.
woooo so defensive!
hm. i wonder where those tickets came from? happy meals? used birth control packets? bazooka bubble gum? what?
Lars @ 8:
I think she's observed that strategy working on the top of the ticket on the opposing party. Give her a break.
Well, one thing's for certain. Sure as hell wouldn't be from birth control packets! Maybe a free ticket with every box of moose-huntin' ammo...
i am no Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations but I can see Russia from my house!
The people who like Palin couldn't care less about anything other than her fundamentalist principles. Look at it this way - when God is in the White House, what could possibly go wrong?
I'm salivating in anticipation of the Oct. 2 Vice Presidential debate. Not that it will be a debate by any definition of the word, but the popcorn will be ready.
She's simply incapable of talking on her feet about anything substantial, in terms of foreign policy.
She's limited to reciting talking points, and "Projecting confidence", aka faking it.
Palin was Viagra for the McCain campaign. It gave them a lift in the polls for a little while. Fortunately for the campaign, her effect didn't last more than four hours, so there will be no need for the campaign to consult their physician.
Her luster has waned a bit, unfortunately she is proving that it will probably take a depression/prolonged recession to snap the authoritarian republicans to their collective senses! God help us.
so the questioner didn't get to follow up and say, "I just didn ask you a specific question"
She demonstrates very odd word usage. i could have sworn she used the word "example" as a verb on fox last night and i only watched her for about ten seconds.
This from the transcript above:
"... that opponents are going to be looking for a whole lot of things that they can criticize and they can kind of try to beat the candidates here, who chose me as his partner..."
Maybe the Presidummie (heself) is teaching her how to talk?
Noah @ 22:
Thanks for the 411 on that. I can't wait to see Caribou Barbie in debate with Joey the Shark.
Biden is going to crucify her. Rightly so!
Actually, I think you "misunderestimated" how softball a question that was. The woman only asked her, "What specific skills (for foreign policy) do think you have to bring to the White House..." not what experience does she have.
That means she didn't even have to bring the national guard and all that into the picture. She only had to say, "I'm good at organizing people, I know how to negotiate - as I've proven with the oil companies, I never back down, etc." Her claims don't even have to be accurate or relevant (when has that stopped them before?) but that's all she really had to say.
So she's basically saying
"You can go ahead and ask me, play stump the candidate if you want.
I'll have my aides get back to me with the answer, which I cannot provide do you at this moment."
WOW --- she's perfect - a complete blank mind for her neocon monster puppet masters to work with.
I think because I'm a Washington outsider, As for foreign policy I think that I'm prepared, On Jan 20th if we are so blessed as to be sworn into office, Certainly we'll be ready I have that confidence, but we are ready to serve - Amen, thank you Jebus.
But she can explain "delayed off side" and "obstruction" in ice hockey.
She's qualified!!
Joe Schmo @ 28:
But will he use domestic wood and nails? That's all that matters to the fundies.
She's obviously well experienced in obsfucation and deversion.
She should be PRESIDENT!!
...but, but, she can see Russia from her house. Who amongst you can say that??? Hmm?
Edwin Hussein @ 351:
I can see the San Gabriel Mountains from my house. That makes me a .. a ... geologist? Spelunker? Ecologist? Bungee-jumper? World-class John Muir-like hiker?
dennis @ 265:
I don't think there's any higher ground to be had on either side. This is an ugly election season made uglier by the fact that we democrats are realizing you can't win if you don't fight. I don't like Sarah Palin's stance on most issues. The very thought of her in charge of anything makes me very, very nervous. But I've seen some ugly, indefensible language used to describe her here and other places. Which is only going to bolster Dennis and others into voting for her.
It reminds me of the mean-spiritedness of language used to describe Hillary Clinton. You can disagree with Palin's world-view, but let's not turn ourselves into the very thing we despise. Tear her new one on the basis of what she believes in, not about her personally.
Some U.S. Americans can't afford maps, so that's why their foreign policy experience about Africa and the Iraq are limited to things like what they can see from their backyard and such.
Where are Artie Johnson, Jamie Farrell and Jaye P. Morgan when you need them?
Obummer @ 158:
Almost as good as this.
wow! did she hear the actual question or what???
we all know that politicians RARELY answer the question asked - but this woman has taken it to new lows.
the last politician that responded like this during an election campaign was some guy called George W Bush and the American voters were smart enough not to trust him with being President...
oh wait...
dennis @ 245:
Bush went to Yale Dennis. Bush also got in because Daddy pulled strings. Obama earned his spot at Harvard because he deserved it and worked hard.
One of the things, and there are many, that scares me about Palin is that she is clueless about just how clueless she really is. Those kind of people are the most dangerous.
Did anyone notice that black gentleman sitting behind Pailin?
I think the townhall organisers were told to let one token minority in and make sure they are in the front row!
Seems that McCain/Pailin don't have many black supporters.
The Dems picking Obama as their candidate was a sneaky racist ploy to reel in the black votes.
not like us Repukes - we don't resort to such sneaky low life tactics to win votes...
Oh my... I've come to expect very little, but even after 3 weeks of prep she doesn't have a substantive answer to one of THE core concerns the entire nation has about her.
That wasn't a "politics as usual" response. It was either a lack of substance, a lack of preparation, or a simple disregard for anyone's right to ask... My fear is that it was all three.
God damn, either someone left a herd of whales out on the pier, or Palin just outflopped Ashley Simpson's Orange Bowl performance..
Jesus. This debate is going to be hillarious.
If she were truly smart, she wouldn't have accepted the nomination to be a tool for the republican party. She must be spending a lot of time in front of the mirror these days trying to convince herself that she was actually picked for her brains and not because she's got a pair of tits. Alaska's gonna have one angry moose on their hands when she wakes up from the tranquilizer.
Greup @ 54:
Outside the US? She hasn't even learned enough about the world outside of Alaska.
me @ 363:
lmao
Mrs. Palin, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Liberal AND Proud @ 35:
lol.
golgiiguy @ 376:
lmao!

I would arrest her husband right away!!!!!
And about her... she is a crook like all Republicans are !
You're suprised that she can't answer a simple question? - Haha... because she doesn't know anything! That's it!
Palin's non-answer can be classified as bullshit, but since she's from Alaska, it is properly called MOOSESHIT!
Dancer @ 69:

From the other side of the world (Australia) I'm thinking, like, this is a joke, right?
What? Oh...
Well unfortunately all this hate toward Palin and praise for Obama won't get this country anywhere. Both sides are despicable. A McCain/Palin victory wouldn't help this country, and a win for Obama/Biden would be worse. At least with McCain/Palin we'd be a lot less socialist, and that is a good thing. The problem is both parties habitually violate the Constitution and spend spend spend. The latter didn't use to be the case with the Republicans, but since the Neocons took over they have been Democrats in disguise. So, while you McCain haters keep complaining, you're really just bitching about another Democrat.
Until the true conservatives regain power in the Republican party this nation will continue to have a disease that festers from the current two party system. Another alternative is the rise of a viable third party, but 90% of America is so uneducated, indifferent, and/or stupid that it will never happen. That's right, the Republicans and Democrats are such a menace to America that we need to change to something else, but you idiots think changing parties is the best "change". Wake up and have some humility. It is ok to admit you've been an idiot.
Ummm... I think that's what the questioner was asking, you dimwit, for at least one specific skill you have in regards to foreign policy -- and demonstrating an above average ability to bull**it doesn't count.
It seems to me that she and her running mate are rather dumb. Just about any semi-bright politician would know how to at least appear to know what to do to appear to know what was going on. McCain can perhaps be partially excused because of age and perhaps his PTSD (ignored by the public and the parties and concealed in his med records that have never been fully shown)...
Lars @ 8:
Well, ya know, she can read the teleprompter, reminiscent of another sports announcer come politician.
Epic Fail: Palin can’t answer softball question about national security experience at first town hall meeting
I'm sure palin leaves a lot of balls soft.
You know, she sends a great message. First, it's ok if you don't know jack so long as you can pretend. Teenage pregnancy is A-OK. And finally, nothing will get you further in this world than a pretty face.
We are F'n DOOMED
James in Colorado @ 1:
Try asking Barack Obama a question.
John M @ 385:
I'm sorry, we don't have time for this. The meme that "The parties are the same" may be arguable, but the attempt to apply that same idea to the candidates is patently false. Obama is a thoughtful, prudent, charismatic man with a firm grasp of constitutional law, a real foreign policy and a great work ethic. McCain has shown himself to be driven only by the need to win, willing to change what were once considered his "core" beliefs to placate his party, and with only a very tenuous grasp on the issues that are crucial to this country. He is completely out of touch with the situation "on the ground".
They are not the same. Obama is the man this country needs right now. McCain is not. Any other conclusion must either be willful ignorance, or outright malevolence. I refuse to put my country into the hands of frauds and ignoramuses for four more years.
Don't worry Sheeple, Gawd will guide her when she ascends to the White House with McBush. /s
I'M READY BECAUSE I'M READY BECAUSE I'M READY!!!! DON'T YOU GET THAT!?!?! WHY DO YOU KEEP ASKING ME HARD QUESTIONS???
Anyone else seriously going to leave the country if this puppet and her puppet master get elected? I plan on distancing myself as far as I can from these morons and the morons that elect them. I'm not one to stay on a sinking ship.
Duncan @ 384:
If only it were a joke...but unfortunately...such is the sad state of our politics now...
Gawd...I'm ready for a beer already.
Do these people EVER answer a question?
ferrofluid (Obama + Biden = 2008) @ 14:
That is pretty scary. I wonder what either candidate has to say about this and how they'll restore the value of our dollar.
this is probably over her head but it might be worth it just to hear ben stein blast the repugs
dennis @ 19:
ah, the flash of ignorance. kinda of pretty in the morning light.
What's scary are the number of people comforted by hearing her say that she's ready as if that means she really is. Because, certainly no one has ever lied just to get a job before.
PWNed,Hackers break into Sarah Palin's e-mail account . how come a governor uses Yahoo account for her governing job?, when you do such a "smart move" , you end up being PWNed.
When will non pre-selected people be able to play this stump the candidate...actually, I don't think we want to stump her. We want to ask intelligent questions and have the question answered coherently. I know tall order for the short of mind.
I really do not care if he comes off as mean, Joe Biden must make it his duty to expose her utter ignorance on every single issue. Winning a debate is not nearly enough. The gloves must come off (She's a hockey mom, you know) and Joe HAS to expose her. It is not sexist to call a woefully inept feamle candidate out on her lack of any discernable qualifiactions.
The media should report how the crowds are allowed entry into meetings the candidates hold. Pre-ticketed crowd......just another setup situation. Please, media, let the masses know full well the circumstances of these 'open' meetings.
OK, my posts seem to not be showing up, but I'm gonna try something different.
I propose the following, can we pass a law requiring that all candidates for office at the national level must take sodium pentathol (truth serum) before every public appearance? Whenever they are on a news talk show after being elected, hold a press conference, or make any sort of appearance, they must also take truth serum.
Can we do this? Would this be unconstitutional? Let's do it to them before they do it to all of us!
Joe Biden is going to turn her into little itty bitty moose gutting pieces
"And if you want specifics with specific policy or countries, go ahead and you can ask me. You can even play stump the candidate if you want to. But we are ready to serve."
And if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we’d all have a merry Christmas.
Hurin @ 372:
Yes...to folks with a brain...unfortunately the troglodytes will see these debates as wins for their side.
Doubt it.
Ms. Palin did not answer the question. The question was, give "specific skills that you think you have to bring to the White House" (to rebut the impression she has no foriegn policy experience). Ms. Palin gave- none. Why? Because she has none.
But there are a whole lot of Republican voters who aren't concerned about that Plain has zero skills. Why? Because SHE'S HOT, exciting, folksy, and SHE SHOOTS GUNS. Sometimes, FROM AIRPLANES. I mean, if we have a problem with Mr. Putin, well, the obvious answer is, send in Ms. Palin. Maybe she could recall Mr. Cheney to help out... I'm sure he would be happy to help a fellow Republican.
And, if you read the Constitution (yes some folks actually do take the time to do that) you will see that the only requirements for election to the Presidency are, must be 35 or older, and, must be born in the United States. That's it. The rest (like electing someone who has half a clue) is up to the voters.
Every politician ducks a question or doesn't answer it directly. Obama can't give a simple yes or no answer... he can't answer a question in less than 50 words because he needs to get you all caught up and confused in the rhetoric while not actually committing to anything.
As for experience, everyone likes to forget that Palin is the only person with executive esperience. Mayor of a town and current governor of a state. I should say that both take some skills and have given her experience. What is Obama's experience? A partial term in the senate where he spent most of it campaigning for president... voting "present" over 100 times in the state congress. So what makes Obama so qualified for president? Oh, he says that he is for change... I forgot. Just remember that all you will have once he is elected is change because his tax policies will take all of your money that folds.
You can say that people are only voting for Palin because she is hot or whatever, but the only reason people are voting for Obama is because of rock star politics and because of the color of his skin. A white man with his skill set would have been smoked out of the primary months ago and Hillary would have won the ticket.
And consequently, the Obama camp is going after Palin like rabid dogs because they know that they screwed up by picking Biden and not Hillary. The latter would have united the party while the choice of Biden totally flies in the face of "change".
She's on national TV and under tons of scrutiny over the media's charge that she isn't ready to address the nation's foreign policy concerns--any human being would falter under this sort of pressure, even if he/she knows the question is coming and is fully prepared (which I'm sure she did and was). Who really expects Palin to have this sort of expertise, anyway?--Everyone in the country is fully aware that she was a state governor before she accepted the vice presidential nomination, and there was no need for such knowledge in the position! Give her a break! Competent voters are keeping all factors in mind (this included) as they juggle which candidate to ultimately vote for; therefore, this question has no real significance at all.
Someone please answer this--why isn't Senator Obama being questioned about the exact same thing (or his stance on any issue for that matter)?!?!?!? Oh yes, I forgot, because the liberal media is on an "Attack & Destroy Sarah Palin" campaign (and will only keep losing the battle they have been losing since the Republican convention)--this is ridiculously biased and insulting to our country! The media should shut up already and focus on more important matters!!!
In light of it all, Sarah Palin is not being portrayed in a negative light--the media is just making itself look desperate and unworthy!!
Considering she said some months ago she doesn't even know what the vice president does combined with McShames admitting in 2000 he was too old to run for President the only reason for them to run is pure unadulterated greed and arrogance. NO sound ideas for 'change', just keep repeating the word so people believe you will change when if fact there is and will be NO change except for the wrse for the average American being further sold into indebtured servitude to the corporations that control DC and elect who they want.
When you add the ignoring of subpoenas and refusals to testify you KNOW they are lying and hiding something. What are they afraid of? Why can they spy on us with impunity and then claim to be above they law when caught in their own improprieties? To elect such arrogance reveals the true psychopathy of the American public as programmed by mass media news and tv.
re Joe: FYI the only candidate I found with real merit so far in the last year was Ron Paul. He's NOT a Republocrat like McCain, Obama, Palin, and Biden. He's a Constitutionalist, and weights every single vote (afaik) relative to whether it is authorized under the Constitution. He's a throwback to somewhere around 1809 I'd guess, judging by the crop since.
If I vote for Obama it will NOT be because of the color of his skin or his "rock star politics". It will be, as it has been since I became eligible to vote 38 years ago, because I prefer people who are willing to think about things and exercise restraint rather than charge around the world wielding brutal unary power and printing fake money following some "message from God". It remains to be seen whether Obama would do any worse than McCain under real world conditions. Both have pledged to wage war... as is expected of presidential candidates- they wouldn't last two months if they appeared "pascifist" (commie, right?).
400+ responses to an article about nothing. i hate election years.
How come anyone did not stump her, it would not have been hard.
dennis @ 19:
NO! This is not 5th grade, you don't get to 'fake it'
“Play stump the candidate”.
Oh, if only they did…
“How long is the border between Iraq and Afghanistan?”
John McCain is the only one in the world who knows the answer to that question.
just ask her what the Bush docterine is..
The question was vague. The question is over foreign policy, an incredibly diverse topic. The person asking the question goes on to ask for specifics, yet fails to provide any criteria upon which those "specifics," would apply. The U.S. foreign policy towards Iraq is not the same foreign policy used when dealing with France, or Belgium, etc., etc. The vice presidential candidates response throws the question right back, "what exactly would you like to know . . . " She did fine.
And if you want specifics with specific policy or countries, go ahead and you can ask me. You can even play stump the candidate if you want to. But we are ready to serve.
Ummmmmm..... I think I SPECIFICALLY remember her asking what her SPECIFIC experience was.... and she answers with that?
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John McCain just forget where Spain was. Seriously, not kidding.
Bumped. This is a very important story.
(UPDATE: I now have the Spanish version of the interview cropped to the 1 minute 37 seconds in question. You can listen to it here, but it's in Spanish.)This isn't funny. It's actually quite serious. We may have the first evidence, on tape, that McCain's age, or illness, or both are catching up with him and he's losing his mental faculties.Per a post on Josh Marshall's site, I just listened to an interview John McCain did with a Spanish journalist recently. The interview is in English, but there's a Spanish translator translating the tape into Spanish at the same time. So the English part is difficult to hear. I am however fluent in Spanish, and what Josh reports is exactly what the Spanish version shows.Namely, that John McCain didn't appear to know that Spain was in Europe, or that the leader of Spain was named Zapatero, even after he was told that Zapatero was the leader of Spain. When asked about Spain and Zapatero, by a Spanish reporter for a Spanish newspaper, McCain responded about Mexico and Latin America. A reader suggested something that Josh had already considered, that perhaps McCain thought the reporter was talking about the Zapatistas in Mexico, the guerilla group. But that's not possible as the reporter clearly said she was talking about Spain and Spain's leader, Zapatero. She told McCain this twice. Let me tell you exactly what she asked McCain (per the translation):
McCain then gives this odd answer about America's friends and America's enemies. He also, oddly, talks about Mexico (why Mexico? The question was about Spain) and how he'd invite friendly leaders to the White House. She then asks him again, would that invitation include President Zapatero? He says again that he'd have to review relations first, blah blah. She then says again, "so you'd have to wait to see, so would you meet with him in the White House?" He again repeats his weird statement about friends and enemies. McCain also throws in, oddly, to the Spanish reporter, when she's asking him about meeting the Spanish president, a line about the importance of our relationship with Latin America (this is now the second time he answered a question about meeting the president of Spain with an answer about Latin America). She then says to McCain one last time:
This time, there was no room for confusion. McCain then gives this very bizarre answer:
What does concern about human rights, democracy and freedom have to do with a prerequisite for meeting the president of Spain? Especially when you told the same paper 5 months ago that you'd be happy to meet with him. McCain had no idea what was going on in the interview. She specifically told him, twice, that she was talking about Spain and the Spanish president. She's a Spanish reporter with one of the largest, if not the largest, newspaper in Spain, El Pais. I know this paper, McCain certainly knows this paper (and it's not like McCain's staff didn't tell him who he had the exclusive interview with for ten minutes). She made it clear she was asking about her own country and her own president and Mccain had no clue what she was talking about.Either McCain had no idea what the woman was talking about when she said "Spain," and then said "the President of Spain," repeatedly, or McCain intentionally snubbed the country of Spain tonight for no apparent reason, which is very hard to believe, especially given his earlier interview in which he said he was fine meeting Zapatero. The interview is absolutely bizarre, especially in that it sounds like McCain wasn't even lucid, it sounds like he simply doesn't have complete control over his faculties anymore. And judging by the fact that just a few months ago McCain was fine with Zapatero, it sounds like McCain simply wasn't quite all there any more during the interview. He got horribly confused and didn't know what was going on.This is just incredibly disturbing. And remember, this is hardly the first time in the last year that McCain has become confused about his signature issue, foreign affairs. It's happened a lot in the past year, and it never happened before. There's a pattern here, even if in polite company the media isn't supposed to talk about. McCain is having trouble focusing and understanding what's going on around him. He gets increasingly confused. And that's just scary.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: "If you could please respond to that criticism and give us specific skills that you think you have to bring to the White House to rebut that or mitigate that concern.
PALIN: And if you want specifics with specific policy or countries, go ahead and you can ask me.
FEMALE I am asking you for specifics
PALIN: Which you can go ahead and ask me because this is America and not some other country that doesn’t allow specifics and questions and such.
FEMALE: Well I’m asking if you have specific skills?
PALIN: Yes, yes I do and I’m ready to use them.
FEMALE: Fine but are you going to tell us what they are, specifically
PALIN: In what sense?
FEMALE: Do you have ANY SPECIFIC SKILLS regarding foreign policy?
PALIN: You’re only asking me that because I’m a woman. Next question!
Might there be a cosmic coincidence at work here between Sarah Palin and Michael Palin who played the purveyor of fine cheeses who didn't actually have any cheese?
I still say she reminds me of Gladys Kravitz, the shrieking busy body next door neighbor on Bewitched for those of you old enough to remember it.
Mike O'Tool @ 42:
This is not a campaign in which, for the majority of over-worked, under-paid, ill-informed, issues 'matter.' What matters is 'personality' (code for race/gender). Attacking failin' Palin on issues will not have any effect. They just make her look like a martyr to the faithful. The strategy that will work is to IGNORE the dim, vicious slag, and focus on Bombin' Johnnie's age, infirmity, temper, and dishonesty.
There's an old saying which I read on a t-shirt years ago: "If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, then baffle 'em with bullsh*t."
Apparently, it's the repugnican motto.
moarku @ 29:
Good point. You're right. She could easily have constructed a much better answer. I think the McCain camp must really be desperate and scared, and her reaction to the question betrays that underlying fear. It was a knee jerk answer to a relatively benign question.
What part of you know don't you understand?
Christ, she's no Hillary. She's no Chelsea. She could probably handle a debate with Socks, though. Socks is a dumbass.
AND yet, people who operate (I refuse to say THINK) like Limpballs and InSANNITY will say..."see she answered that just fine and didn't mention seeing Russia from Alaska!"...the bar is SO LOW for this woman that it is totally insulting to women everywhere and woe be to those who cannot perceive that!
It is so funny watching the neo-kkkons squirm while trying to convince us that they really believe Barbie is a viable candidate.
Oh, and Cap'n Kilgore: Thanks for the first laugh of the day. Is Trojan Moose yours or have you heard it somewhere before?
That really was quite a specific answer. I really don't whether to laugh or cry at this point. We now have a complete nitwit running for VP who upon being asked to cite a specific example of her foreign policy experience, avoids the question and invites the person asking the question to play stump the candidate, which ironically the questioner just did. God help us all.
dennis @ 19:
I think the top of the ticket of her own party is having a break!
She's running for VP of your country. If I was a citizen, I wouldn't give neither of them a break - you got less than two months to your election and she's can't answer a very easy question (or maybe she didn't understand the question, which makes it even worse)
dennis @ 19:
Yeah Dennis, try to defend this clearly unqualified "candidate" from your "whites only" party. LOL.
a brief reminder, folks. dennis and his ilk are asking us to elect a ticket featuring a boob who can't turn on a computer at the top, and a rube who doesn't know what the bush doctrine is on the bottom.
they're asking us to elect 2 nincampoops who know nothing about the economy, and next to nothing about foreign policy.
last time i checked those were the 2 most important things a president ought to have a handle on.
dennis also believes we should trust a ticket run by the 7 biggest lobbyists in washington to "clean things up".
sorry, dennis. enjoy your stay on bizarro world, the rest of us got a country needs savin'.
Eric Hussein in Ottawa @ 65:
Err... not betrays the fear... Guh, I shouldn't post comments so early in the morning before my brain has had a chance to wake up. I meant to say something more like "demonstrates that underlying fear".
I call her Gladys Kravitz, after the shrieking neighbor lady on Bewitched.
There's even some fools who want to give this empty pants suit a break.
How about a break for all of the people who have lost their homes?
No, gotta use OUR tax dollars to socialize the losses of the banks!
Ditto for those who have lost their pensions.
Foreign policy?
No problem; GOD will tell us who we need to invade.
Give HER a break!? Take your break and stick it up your fundament.
woody, tokin librul @ 63:
The amen choir of republican dolts (Dennis) are not in play, I agree. However, if even for posterity, the public record or whatever, someone has to call her out. Go down swingin this time if they are going to steal the election. Make em earn the shit.
Talk about sexism, the MSM is being sexist and NOT holding Palin to the same standards they would if she were a male. They hardly touched this story, imagine if Biden or Obama pulled this crap. Hannity and Fox didn't even report this at all, so let's stop all this bull about poor little Sarah. It's obvious this Moose-killer is an empty suit and the only reason she is as popular with the right wing is because of her stupid facsist views.
"if we are so blessed as to be sworn into office as your president and vice president, certainly we’ll be ready."
Surprised no one jumped on that part of the statement.
No one is "blessed" into office, you ignorant scam artist. Do you think of God as nothing more than a super delegate? Do you think the Hebrew Messiah was nailed to a tree for nine hours to help you stump for a new job?
A BILLION people will go to bed tonight without clean drinking water, the the creator of all the universe has nothing better to do than help out a hockey mom with her new promotion.
She can suck it.
Enough with the theocracy. Tax the CHURCHES.
I bet there are republicans who look at her and listen to her and deep down they are asking themselves, WTF have we done putting her on the ticket? Now we have a ticket of Moose and Squirrel.
ashton @ 70:
Just wait till Joe Biden gets the chance to drag her around by the brain for a couple of hours on live television. And may he show no mercy.
cobsjo @ 60:
I've theorizing on that. So far I've got the following theories on McCain's thoughts:
- "What? Franco's gone? When did that happen?"
- "Spain.. aren't they ruled by muslims??"
- "I thought Zapata was a Mexican guy? I remember meeting him."
- "Hmm.. is this guy another Generalisimo or not?? Umm.. better play it safe until someone tells me."
- "Does this asshole really expect me to remember the presidents of every goddamn Latin American country?"
dennis @ 19:
So, the GOP answer to everything is "I know you are but what am I".
What's next.."I'm rubber your glue, whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you"?
"In the 1930s, at the trough of the Depression, when Glass-Steagall became law, it was believed that government was the answer. It was believed that stability and growth came from government overriding the functioning of free markets.
"We are here today to repeal Glass-Steagall because we have learned that government is not the answer. We have learned that freedom and competition are the answers. We have learned that we promote economic growth and we promote stability by having competition and freedom.
"I am proud to be here because this is an important bill; it is a deregulatory bill. I believe that that is the wave of the future."
Phil Gramm Nov. 12th 1999
As Chairman Gramm accurately noted, the history of this issue, like that of the SEC, goes back to the Depression. When Congress separated commercial and investment banking in the Glass-Steagall Act, it did three big things: First, it said banks couldn't underwrite securities or be dealers in securities. Second, it said banks couldn't affiliate with underwriters and securities dealers. And third, it said that underwriters and securities dealers couldn't take deposits.
Christopher Cox SEC chairman speaking of Phil Gramm and the regulations that held back this sort of collapse.

I just heard on MSNBC that she was a product of Title 9 and that it helped propel her to where she is today.
Oh God! What hath we wrought! :D
In other news, anyone having problems getting into WikiLeaks? I want to see the e-mails, but I keep getting a page load error. Did they get hacked or shut down by chance?
If this was vaudeville...someone would be shouting.."GET THE HOOK!"
fil @ 21:
I don't believe that she has even this much to back herself up, as I remember the quote being that there was a small island (at the tip of the Aleutians, I'd guess) from which you could see Russia. I doubt she's even seen a glimmer of Russia on the distant horizon.
Her whole schtick would be funny f it weren't so sad.
James in Colorado @ 85:
No Wiki for you. This is America...land of suppression and home of the tool.
Alexdem @ 82:
LOL!
I don't even dare think about what will come out of his mouth when asked about my country, Denmark. Which for better - and worse, has been a staunch ally to Buch - Hope it brings the fall of our own PM, if Obama/Biden wins.
hello @ 81:
You know that if he is critical at all or exposes anything negative, the media and especially Fox will blast him as a sexist pig and he's being mean. This is all a set up and thats why McCain picked her. They will play the poor little Hockey mom crap!
Face it. She's Alaska's version of a Valley Girl. She's the student who always got A's on the essay questions because she new how to write a snow job.
"What's this Wiki I hear about?" - John McCain
"I think its something on the internets...right next to The Google." - George W. Bush
Dennis, and the rest of the minions are possibly denizens of a world full of facts that destroy their every contention, but alas must be descendants of Capernaum (for the religious right folks).

Did they have to sign up as republicans or sign loyalty cards?
"Stump the Candidate" is no big deal. I want her to expand on the positions she has on a whole variety of topics, so I would know what we would be getting!
But since her boss is all over the place I can't expect more from her. So far she's said nothing and she says it over and over again.
I think she misspoke...I don't think she meant "stump".
Left&Left @ 72:
Going back to the race card, eh Left²? I don't see a lot of defending of Barack Obama's experience or his accomplishments lately. All I see are negative attacks. 77% of Obama's ads since the Republican convention have been negative, obviously taking the advice of his sage Keith Olbermann. Nothing against this site, but scroll down the page- you won't find a blog post positive about Obama at all; everyone an attack against, McCain, Palin or the Republican Party. It's the same on all the liberal blogs. If there was substance in your candidate, it would be highlighted and talked about. That's clearly not the strategy.
Why you blame me for pointing that out and yet somehow find it to be racist is baffling.
Liberal AND Proud @ 33:
And she can field-dress a moose in 20 minutes or less! If that doesn't qualify her for veepee, I don't know what will.
I am going to try that trick at my next interview....
"Mr. Woolf - You list on your resume that you 'have experience with .Net'. Could you please describe what that experience is, and some of the projects you have worked on?"
"Well, I think because I’m a {new face to your company} that {other applicants} are going to be looking for a whole lot of things that they can criticize and they can kind of try to beat the {applicants} here, who {decided to interview me}, to kind of tear down the ticket. But as for {.Net}, you know, I think that I am prepared and I know that {when hired}, if we are so blessed as to be {chosen to work for your wonderful company}, certainly we’ll be ready. I’ll be ready. I have that confidence. I have that readiness."
I think I'll make a $250,000 signing bonus a requirement.
