I'll get back to you: When pressed, Palin can't give specifics on McCain's "pro-regulation" record
Hannity's infomercial notwithstanding, Sarah Palin is now 0-2 in media appearances. When Katie Couric asks her to name specific steps McCain has taken with regard to pushing for more regulation, Palin is stumped and says she's gonna have to get back to her.

Palin: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.
Couric: I'm just going to ask you one more time - not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.
Palin: I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you.
Maybe it's actually smarter to keep her away from the press, no? Check out this report from Politico's Jonathan Martin:
McCain then looked around the room and gestured as if to welcome questions. The AP reporter shouted a question at Gov. Palin ("Governor, what have you learned from your meetings?") but McCain aide Brooke Buchanan intervened and shepherded everybody out of the room.
Palin looked surprised, leaned over to McCain and asked him a question, to which your pooler thinks he shook his head as if to say "No."
As TPM's Greg Sargent says: Letting Sarah Palin Answer Questions Is Very, Very Dangerous
Full transcript below the fold:
Couric: You've said, quote, "John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business." Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight?
Palin: I think that the example that you just cited, with his warnings two years ago about Fannie and Freddie - that, that's paramount. That's more than a heck of a lot of other senators and representatives did for us.
Couric: But he's been in Congress for 26 years. He's been chairman of the powerful Commerce Committee. And he has almost always sided with less regulation, not more.
Palin: He's also known as the maverick though, taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he's been talking about - the need to reform government.
Couric: But can you give me any other concrete examples? Because I know you've said Barack Obama is a lot of talk and no action. Can you give me any other examples in his 26 years of John McCain truly taking a stand on this?
Palin: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.
Couric: I'm just going to ask you one more time - not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.
Palin: I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you.

And PuhLEEEZE keep her away from the White House !!
This woman is a joke. What a great Prez. she would make! Time to drink Drain-O!
I almost feel bad for her. This woman shouldn't run a carpool let alone a town or a state. Absolutely pathetic.
She is nothing but the window dressing for the Repukes, stand there and look pretty and say Jesus, as often as possible, that will get the votes!!!!
Poor little gov thought she was a real viable candidate! Shame she has no experience in the major league to cope with the assholes she has signed up with.
and we wondered why they keep her away from the press.lol
She's a joke and the more time she spends publicly, the worse of the sham of a team is going to be. There are many better prepared Rebulican women he could have chosen, instead he decided to continue kissing the ass of the rightwing of the party. He go himself a female Dan Quayle.
The look of undisguised contempt and loathing on Couric's face was truly a wonder to behold. I was actually cringing and watching through my fingers. This is the week the wheels came completely off the McCain campaign. Welcome to the White House, President Obama.
I'm reminded of Nicole Kidman in "To Die For."
man i wanna watch this so bad and my browser isnt agreeing w/c&l at the moment
I thought these interviews were always somewhat rehearsed - here's the list of questions you can ask, etc. If that's the case, Palin isn't remembering her lines. If that's not the case, thank the media for actually doing it's job and asking (what turn out to be) tough questions.
McCain: "You just sit there and look pretty, little lady."
wow. what a dope!
Just idiot Republicans being idiot Republicans. I wonder if Alaska will have her back November 5?
jennifer from pittsburgh @ 3:
thank you for posting the funniest response of this thread. I actually conjured a mental image of her running a carpool.
poorly.
thanks again.
She had a real moose in the headlights moment near the beginning of this interview. lol
Murica. . . ...hand ovah yer monay to thee CEos that ran their corporations into the ground. God Bless You all.
Why should Katie Couric have all the fun stumping Governor Palin?
Simple site, straight forward premise:
If you had the opportunity to ask Sarah Palin one question that she was forced to answer, what would it be?
Leave your own question for Palin, or vote for other people's questions.
www.OneQuestionForPalin.com
Heres a nice lapel pin for Palin.
Here's some clips from Letterman who was really, really ticked at being stood up by McCain. Really funny stuff!
It has already been suggested by the McCain camp that the presidential candidates skip Friday's debate in Ole Miss and--surprise!--move it to when Palin and Biden were scheduled to meet. Postponing the vice presidential debate indefinitely, of course.
Just in case the McCain campaign is following the blogs, I'll create some balance:
Great answer! I watched the interview and Palin did excellent. That Katie Couric sure is one stupid liberal doucebag but still couldn't trip up a well-prepared Palin. She is, in my opinion, not only Vice-Presidential...damn she's Presidential material. I typically vote Democrat but this is one election where I'm voting for the bottom of the ticket...and that's for Palin.
The clever thing to say would be, "What is the McCain campaign afraid we'll find out about Sarah Palin if she talks to the press?" Unfortunately, I think we have all figured that out by now.
John McCain really must hate this country.
maybe she could have subbed for mcKeating on Letterman Dave, however, was not so sure.
ya know, in the lower 48, moosehead is a fine beer. in alaska, it's a felony.
i know. you think she shot the moose for nothing?
How could this woman get so powerful? Are the people in Alaska that addicted to pork? WTF? She can't run a PTA meeting let alone the country.

Katie, I'll get back to you on that after the election....
Palin: He’s also known as the maverick though, taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he’s been talking about - the need to reform government.

Letterman was PISSED...talk about brutal!
I loved how Palin said that America was waiting to hear what McCain said, not Obama but McCain. Katie did a good job. I'm a little surprised.
Jennifer @3
Jennifer, I don't feel the least bit sorry for her. If someone came along and asked you to run for vice-president of the United States, would you do it just because you were asked? Probably not, unless you had the length and depth of service you felt would enable you to perform the duties of the job.
This lady is clueless, but must have an incredible ego, not unlike the current President of the U.S. People this out of their depth yet still desirous of the power are narcissists, in my opinion. And this one is a doozie.
Here's the full interview...

MountainMan23 @ 27:
UGH!!!
thanks MountainMan23!
OMG America would be in pretty serious shape if she needed to take over the Presidency in the event anything happened to McCain.
Well at least the President is sure to have many advisers who are wise and knowledgeable and have the best interests of all Americans at heart,... right?
You would think someone in the Republican party had the sense to predict that she would be a total dope in situations like this... and the patriotism to convince McCain to NOT nominate her for the job.
But no, they really think they can pull this bullshit on the American people. They have no shame.
it was a trick question. the correct answer was that mccain hasn't done anything of the kind.
If this was a Democrats presser, the MSM would be squealing, positvely squealing, by now!
"But, but, but...he's a MAVERICK! Don't you get it?
What is WRONG with you people?"
I don't think Palin even knew who John McCain was before all of this.
So, are they quitting? Dropping out of the race? What happens now, do they have anotther convention??
The crotchety old bastard hasn't bothered showing up for work since MARCH (Obama hasn't been much better, though) - why is it suddenly life-or-death just because the Wall Street fatcats had a bad night at the casino? Someone needs to ask him that. Repeatedly. Preferably in front of a camera.
If the thought of this woman being one heartbeat away from the presidency didn't terrify me, I'd almost feel sorry for her.
Almost...I also have little sympathy for people who have a higher opinion of themselves than they deserve, and I've known lots of women like Palin in my lifetime. They're usually royal b*tch*s.
P.D. @ 26:

as a christian, i genuinely pray for sarah palin's well-being when the neocons wake up and realize she's one of "ours", tanking their ticket.
I have trouble loading the video too. Actually, there were lots of problems with the C&L site today. Hmmm. I wonder if Cheney and Chertoff have been playing on their computers again.
Looks like the wheels are starting to fall off the old Straight Talk bus. So much for tough war hero McKooky and his little airhead Barbie doll. Bad Karma is enjoying some mischief right now.
What would Zeus do? @ 20:
Wow !!
Kathy in St. louis @ 31:
Very good point. You said what I was trying to say, only you did it much, much better.
I think this is truly one of those occasions where it is better to not kick someone when they are down. I also think it is one of those blessed moments in American history where a great awakening takes place, a majority of Americans finally come to the overwhelming conclusion that Republicans are full of shit and dumber than stale bread
BillD @ 13:
{Deleted. SiteMonitor}
Hmmn, I think that's a bit more than out of order, uncalled for and tacky.
But seriously Palin: I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring them to you. - Sheesh!
Exposed for the fraud she is.
Shag @ 6:
Now just hold on there. Dan Quayle was a border line moron! I haven't seen anything from Miss Rapture that would elevate her to that status.

LA@42, I think I'm more depressed now than when I was in 2004, when Kerry lost. Serenity Now!
What kind of interview was that? OMG. The look on Katie's face said it all. That was highly painful to watch.
Sarah, this isn't a beauty pageant. Didn't you know you were in the big leagues now?
Sarah Palin > A Legend in Her Own Mind!!!
The Very Bitter Ceci Hussein @ 54:
She is so out of her element. Honestly, I could have handled that better than she.
Okay, I watched the whole thing on the CBS site.... this woman is a complete ignoramus. Dan Quayle was a Rhodes scholar next to this one.
She knows nothing behind the basic talking points and she reverts to them reflexively. She is simply not qualified to run a Burger King, let alone our beloved country.
This is scandalous... it's not even remotely funny.
MountainMan23 @ 27:
Spawn of Alaska's Loins is dumber than a bag of rocks.
That's what incompetent leaders do. Trust in their minions, but believe in their super human strength.
I wonder how many people got freaked out by McCain and Palin’s total fear and panic today…Palin even saying the D word, as in, we’re going down the road to a depression (where the fundamentals were good just 10 days ago) … how many people jumped out of windows?
Wild Weasel @ 59:
BWA HA HA HA HA HA
:<[)
If McCain is so eager to have Obama in Washington on Friday, why not swap the VP candidates for the presidential candidates at the debate?
Or is it NOT important that the VP be able to substitute for the president at a moment's notice? Maybe if something happens to McCain they could get Alexander Haig to show up in the White House briefing room and say "Don't worry. Sarah Palin is safely tied up in the basement, and I'm in control here."
MsJoanne @ 56:
Anyone could. I've disliked Katie Couric since the days of the Today Show. But even she should not have to put up with that.
Both the Palin interview and the Bush speech were both case studies in disastrous politics in their own right.
We have both the Couric and Letterman videos up at TheZoo.
Hey Alaskans.... seriously... you voted this twit in as your Governor???
I mean, how bad was the Democrat? Was he a serial killer?
Whenever I can hold my nose for a minute or two, and stomach watching something from the McInsane campaign, I always come away with the feeling that I just got done watching America's dumbest criminals.
The most amazing thing about these morons, is they actually think they are smarter than everyone else.
Pericles @ 62:
That is exactly what they should do! EXACTLY!
sofla @ 65:
LOL. You said it. :D
For crying out loud, WHY does Couric say " I'm going to ask you this just one more time". A real journalist would say: " I'm going to ask you again, and keep asking you till you answer the goddam question.
NoGWBpolicyleftinplace @ 66:
They are all criminals and we are about to be robbed of almost a trillion dollars.
Elliot Spitzer, The Carlyle Group, AIG, Merril Lynch...this shit is so intricately tied you need visio just to try to make sense of it.
This is a fucking train robbery and we get to layer papa Bush's pockets. This sucks. It stinks like a rotting fish head.
Reuters is reporting there is
BailoutSwindle deal. This is Barney Frank from the release:
You can take that to mean there won't be stock warrants which is what Paulson couldn't swallow.
That means it is still CASH FOR TRASH and little more.
Thanks, MountainMan :)
sofla @ 65:
LMAO!! Very funny!
MsJoanne @ 70:
Ms. Joanne, I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you for saying this.
sofla @ 65:
ROFLMAO! I'll have to remember that one.
The country is divided. No one knows which will melt down first: the economy or the McCain campaign.
McCain and Palin both look erratic. More and more, the one with the steady hand is Obama. I sure wish the election was happening next week.
Dick Cheney with lipstick?
More like Dan Quayle with tits.
With the new car smell beginning to disappear off this year's model, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ms. Palin has an early-season snowmachine accident in upstate NY this weekend...
Meanwhile, McMormon and Hucklextian have been playing Rock' em-Sock 'em Robots nonstop for the past 48hrs...
Every American should be sat down and made to watch this in it's entirity over the next few days. Potentially the most powerful woman in the world right there and this just will not do.
Keith Olberman was talking about how Palin's preacher is into witch hunts. I mean real witch hunts. Like some sh!t out of Salem or the Dark Ages.
Some weird stuff going on in those backwoods of Alaska.
Matthews just skewered Bush for using words like panic, rescue and the like...he said people aer going to be going to their ATMs in the morning and pulling all their money out.
MsJoanne @ 81:
Good idea.
What respectable network would allow you to do that after spewing the nonsensical stupid shit you have and wasting their time , you fucking dolt ?
This fucking twit is a complete embarrassment to all women across the planet..........
Palin has no fucking clue!! Doesn't matter if it's American history or current events.. she is a complete ignorant who has crafted a career based on conservative talking points. She and her husband have obviously followed and modeled her political career on the experiences of Bush/Cheney and a talking point email list ( ~ I wonder if that hacker found those gems in her Yahoo email account? ) The few times she's been questioned ( and you can totally disqualify that Hannity interview.. shit, Larry King would ask more pointed questions. ) all she does is talk in a circle of platitudes. There is absolutely no meat on those bones and it proves her complete lack of knowledge. I'm sure she would fail an advanced placement course in American history. Hey Sarah, ever consider a career in fast food?
Not only sounding stupid, but looking less like a MILF every day.
Always a mean, bitter animal-killer and adulterer, though.
MsJoanne @ 70:
Now papa Bush will be able to buy up even more "public land," on top of all the rest of the people's property he already confiscated. Legally of course, since his son Chimpy said it was.
Before these theives leave town, I am going to check my teeth to see if I still have my gold fillings? Honestly, I get tired just trying to keep up with these people.
MsJoanne @ 60:
LET A DEMOCRAT PANIC. JUST ONCE!
The media will drum them out of the election. McKKKeating has been launching tirades at the media and even bush is pulling all the stops. If rove is behind this charade, it is not going so well. But the media will do whatever they can to make this seem like some heroic gesture by mcC*nt. But people haev seen enough to change their minds. It's hard to be dumber than Dan Quail, but Sarah has pulled it off!
I hate to say it but that's twice that a reporter asked Palin a question three times and she couldn't answer it.
We're in trouble if that woman makes it anywhere near the WH. Seriously.
Sarah, this isn't a beauty pageant. Didn't you know you were in the big leagues now?
Maybe she just needs more 'training and education'
upchuck @ 80:
Dude, you have no idea. Check this out. 12 videos (and more) to show you what a whack job Palin is. If you're not terrified of her being ANYWHERE near the nuclear football after this, you are not breathing or you don't have more than three brain cells. She is terrifying!!!
(and this for a laugh...sorry, I really need a laugh tonight.)
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Victory Over SCLM, DIEBOLD, ESS and SEQUOIA! @ 87:
My words exactly.
I'd only add that one could only imagine what was exchanged between herself and the foreign dignitaries the other day. Heck. What could she and Kissinger have to talk about? Really?
I read in the Alaska Daily News when she was mayor of Wasilla she created an executive committee that did most of her work. With 400 days in office as governor, 300 were spent at home. Now just how much executive experience does she have? Enough to answer questions about the state of our economy, national and international security, how many countries in the world, how many are allies, which ones aren't etc, etc, etc.? Qualified to be the leader of the United States of America and the free world? Will someone with an ounce of intelligence please tell me? And, believe me I don't dislike her or hate her. I just don't think she is qualified for a top level political position in any administration.
MountainMan23 @ 27:
Thankyou very much!
BigIslandDave @ 86:
Honey, *I* am a MILF. I know MILF's and Palin is no MILF.
I didn't know there was an intern program to be Vice President in the Republican Party.
Katie Couric and Sarah Palin..........
A true meeting of the mindless.
Sarah, we're gonna need your keys, your cell phone and your credit cards... here's a plane ticket, one-way to Juneau... leaves first thing in the morning. Thanks, but no thanks.
IN WHAT RESPECT, CHERLIE?

MsJoanne @ 61:
What sort of responses are our rightwing associates giving? Has the luvvv stopped yet?
Think about this :
What special-type-of-stupid does one truly have to be , to allow Katie Couric of all people , to make you look completely clueless and foolish ...........?
That's like getting Mr Rogers to call you a douchebag during his show.................
The Very Bitter Ceci Hussein @ 92:
Did you catch the exchange with Palin and the leaders of Pakistan and Georgia? NO SHIT. I swear you will not believe this.
MCMetal @ 106:
"Hi, neighbor... you're a douchebag."
Funny stuff.... you know Couric was thinking "OMG, what a retard this woman is."
Jay Severin Has A Small Pen1s @ 22:
Really? Really? Who can be that stupid? You are joking, right?
fastfeat @ 105:
Honestly, the Fox print media has been brutal. I have been shocked, shocked I say! Fox television still blows McCain daily, but the print and internet versions, not so much.
Go to my site...there are two pieces up there from Fox that are really ugly towards the goopers.
MsJoanne @ 60:
anyone who can check their own pulse and saw those performances knows that both repugs are dangerous to this country. I have no idea how many people have been witnessing this total meltdown, but personally, I want to thank Rachel Maddow for starting the ball rolling by calling them all liars in no uncertain terms. Even Keith hadn't been that blatant until then. I also want to thank the SNL crew for the skit and I love the final line by amy pohler: "If the media won't grow a pair, I'll lend them mine."
The Very Bitter Ceci Hussein @ 92:
Kissinger's love of head and Sarah's love of the limelight.
Something tells me Palin can't give specifics on ANYTHING.
runner up in the miss alaska contest isn't such a big deal when you consider that huskies plant their butts against the nearest wall whenever a man enters the room.
It takes a pretty dense post to make Couric look like the intelligent one in the room...
Palin sounds like she's obviously spouting key phrases shes been forcefed.
MsJoanne @ 95:
Win!
MsJoanne @ 107:
When I read that, I was truly aghast.
All I can say is that no one needs to push Sarah into doing anything. This woman is showing the world all her liabilities on her own. She is the last person anyone wants to conduct high level talks internationally.
This is truly an embarrassment.
Jeff @ 113:
Oh, now that's just not FAIR!!
She knows the Earth was created 5,000 years ago.
She could tell you it was created by God.
And she could narrow down to one, from ALL THE RELIGIONS IN THE WORLD, the religion that's the biggest threat to America. How's THAT for specific.
MsJoanne @ 30:
Letterman is absolutely right. If he had a VP candidate worth a shit, then she could stand in for him. But , as we know, that's a problem.

Haven't we had enough embarrassment as a country in the last fucking eight years? It's disgusting.
Good lord, she's odious.

Damn, that was funny. LOL!
I give her another two weeks before she drops out of the race due to family concerns. Jesus save us ... is this the best McCain can do for a VP pick.

Who started this MILF thing? Newt or Rush? Seriously, a MILF (or Yummy Mummy, as they're referred to in Australia) is meant to be good-looking.

MsJoanne @ 132:
LMAO! Yeah, it would be plus for the agriculture vote.
Yep, if Obama had a baby mama, then that would be the end of Obama. ... that's a tongue twister.

The only reason the republican party is even still standing at this point, is because of all the bigots and racist morons. If Al Gore were running this time, after 8 years of constant catastrophe from Chimpy, Gore would probably be up 30 points in the polls right now.
The truly sad part of this, is that if those racist assholes just listened to the candidates proposals, many of them would never ever consider voting for McStupid. It is totally f***ed-up, and seriously sick!
Fil Hussein Oaks @ 118:
Letterman just ended the farce that is Sarah Palin
broomy @ 133:
hey how many pit bulls does it take to change a light bulb anyway?
(big pause)
oh, too late, seems the pit bulls never were in favor of changing the light bulb, in fact they "just said no" to changing the light bulb since about a month ago.
(de tails to follow)
The woman is nothing but a caricature.
There is no substance there.
An empty hat.
Kind of like W.
odanny @ 48:
Very well said.
I'm wondering if he's ill. He looked medicated on TV today. It's hard to tell if he looks sick because he's got pros packing on the make-up.
If he is sick I feel sorry for the old guy. Campaigning for president at any age is a physical and mental ordeal.
GIS "age 72" and look at those pics.
What butchered phrasing.
Couric: "What are the pro's and con's of it (moratorium on foreclosures)?"
Palin: "Oh well, some decisions that have been made poorly, should not be rewarded, of course."
OMFG!
What part of the government has McDepends ever tried to "reform" ?
The part that caught him during the Keating 5 and Savings and Loan Fiasco of the late '80's/early '90's ?
SwingingJohnson @ 143:
Fuck him and the horse he rode in on.
To intentionally mislead and try to con the American people for his own pride , arrogance and greed , is completely and totally reprehensible , despicable and unforgivable .......
Uncle Joe Mccarthy @ 138:
This is another seed planted by the people who brought you "Palin's a MILF."
They want stupid men to vote for the hottie.
And they want stupid women to think that they're getting the first woman president, with their very own "First Man." That Sarah Palin is, by nature of being a woman, equal to Hillary and, damn it, if Hillary can't be the first woman president, then Sarah will!
The flaw with this is, Palin isn't running for President.
MCMetal @ 146:
Yep!
If i have to hear how John McCain is a Maverick one more time I think Ill throw my TV out the window.
slacker_george @ 144:
That's the kind of clarity we need in a president. Four more years of Bush!!!!
Seriously, these companies that have preyed on average Americans, and made risky, stupid decisions that have driven the company into the ground, are now attempting to raid the public coffers and all she can say is "they shouldn't be rewarded"?
