Colbert and Stewart re-create New Yorker Obama cover

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert recently sat down with a reporter from Entertainment Weekly for a hilarious chat on presidential politics.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Forget the two presidential candidates: The most prominent person in this election right now is Sarah Palin. With the attention she's getting, you'd think she was running for president.

JON STEWART: Everyone likes new and shiny. We're bored. What's great about that is [Democratic VP candidate Joe] Biden is an absolutely eccentric character. That's how powerful Palin's story is — it has cast the first African-American presidential nominee, the oldest [non-incumbent] presidential nominee, and a really wild cork vice presidential candidate completely out of the picture. The press is 6-year-olds playing soccer; nobody has a position, it's just ''Where's the ball? Where's the ball? Sarah Palin has the ball!'' [Mimes a mob running after her.] Because they can only cover one thing.

STEWART and COlbert just get bigger and cooler every year.

Why even bring up this stupid thing. Wasn't it best forgotten. Why remind people of this racist cover. It wasn't funny then and it isn't funny now. It's just white people now. Stupid.

WAIT, STOP THE PRESSES! McCain Bags Out Again, for Letterman!

I feel like I'm losing my sense of humor.

I need a beer.

Vote for whomever you want.

But protect yourself.

[Deleted. Off topic. Thanks, Kathleen, we're all over it. The story's in the system. It's scheduled to drop at the top of the hour. Site Monitor]

I laugh at the orginal cover and I laugh at the Colbert/Stewart cover. It really is funny. I get it. It's not larry the cable guy type funny. You have to have a brain.

Six year olds playing soccer = Corporate Media.

Complete with the "parents" on the sidelines trying to "coach".

[Deleted. Off topic. Stewart/Colbert are the topic. The one you're discussing will have its own thread shortly. Thank you. Site Monitor]

I took it that way at first but I really do believe this was a stab at satire.

This is what conservatives see when they look at the Obamas ... that's all. That's so obvious now.

It's funny to look at things through their crazy warped minds. Isn't the "right" silly?

Seriously, this is what they look like to those people. No, Seriously!!

If this cover in any way solidifies what one might see when they look at the Obamas or helps them feel the way they do ... then they were lost to begin with and there was never any hope to woo them anyway.

I like it too. Stewart and Colbert are, quite simply, the best. Love those guys!

Halloween costume dibs!!

Just pointing out the absurdity of Michelle and Barack doing a "terrorist fist jab"..................as if someone could get as far as he has without anyone finding out he's a terrorist........pffft.

Here is my prediction for the debate:

Obama will say we need to withdraw troops from Iraq and send them to Afghanistan.

McCain will say the same thing.

Obama will say the surge has succeeded.

McCain will say the same thing.

Obama will say that the phone companies needed immunity.

McCain will say the same thing.

Obama will say there must be an embargo of Iran.

McCain will say the same thing.

Obama will say he is against a single payer health care program.

McCain will say the same thing.

Obama will say that offshore drilling should be part of the energy mix.

McCain will say the same thing.

Obama will say the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is a terrorist organization.

McCain will say the same thing.

Obama will say Iran is a grave threat.

McCain will say the same thing.

Obama will say we must increase the size of our military.

McCain will have a brain phart and say that we must cut our obscenely bloated Military budget in half.

A trap door will open, McCain will fall through it and never be seen again.

Obama wins the election by default.

I always took the cover to be a comment on the idiocy of American politics.

Colbert is Michelle because he has the eyebrows ... too funny

That would be a pretty cool Halloween costume idea, ricardo. Even better than my Zombies for McCain costume.

That article was actually kind of depressing. At least the cover gave me a good laugh...

That Entertainment Weekly cover gives an amazing twist the conversation about the New Yorker cover.

I see that EW sort of wimped out on the burning flag in the fireplace, though.

Hard to tell from the small size of the image, but there seems to be only a sort of ghostly flag image between Stewart and the fire, not a full frontal star-spangled fire.

B r i l l i a n t !!

[Deleted. Off topic. Kathleen, I know you mean well, but this thread is about Stewart/Colbert and the New Yorker cover (and the parody). There are a few other threads from earlier in the day where you could post this and be on topic- and there's a Debate Open Thread scheduled to drop at 9pm EDST/6pm PDST. Thank you. Site Monitor]

that scares me to think how many Sara Palin's will be out for Halloween

Without Stewart and Colbert and the comic relief that they provide our nation...we might all implode.

i'm glad the new yorker made that cover. its a good cover. its an instant classic.

oh give the baby his bottle. it was funny then and it's even funnier now.

"instant classic"

True.

Imagine 20 years from now people looking back at this campaign marking the end of an error.

This picture will most definitely be a part of the histories.

Sorry Patrick@28 but I side with Orangutan. Come on Stewart/Colbert - the "irony" is soooooo dead already.

My view is that it was a poor class for a magazine (New Yorker- I mean. Entertainment Weekly is just movie wanker filler) that sees itself as highbrow. It only provokes my anger not contemplation not because I'm the idiotic reactionary type but because the concept is so shallow that it invites nothing...

Sorry still gotta open nerve there. Maybe I should get my bottle too, then you and Phill Gramm can laugh and point at us "whiners".

if (when) Obama becomes prez, the cover will be apart of the story to his rise of power, and the challenges he overcame.

If he loses, the cover represents his demise and prejudices of society.

Its a great pun on fox news too. "Terrorist fist jab" like wtf kind of journalism is that? If we're lucky, maybe the cover will symbolize the eventual demise of fox and rupert murdoch.

I'm sure Palin condemns Halloween, however, for anyone so inclined to dress as Palin for the Devil Fest:

Remember, she is a MILF, so make sure you prepare and dress appropriately.

Ha ha.

I thank God for Jon, Stephen & Keith (Olbermann). They keep me sane. Seriously. They are by far the best things on tellie!! p.s. Isn't Lewis Black due for an appearance on The Daily Show? Love him, too.

Are you guys being serious or sarcastic here? Did it really take you two months to figure that out? If so I guess it just goes to show that liberals can be dumb too.
