Here's today's "Honest McCain Campaign Poster" courtesy of Sarah Phalin:

http://gopnot4me.blogspot.com/2008/10/honest-mccain-campaign-poster-41.html

My memory is that brave new world scorned loveless sex.

BTW, Who Says Palin Doesn't Read? -- Sarah's Top 10 Newspapers/Magazines

BIDEN: You're very kind suggesting my only Achilles Heel is my lack of discipline.
Others talk about my excessive passion. I'm not going to change. I have 35 years in public office. People can judge who I am. I haven't changed in that time.

And, by the way, a record of change -- I will place my record and Barack's record against John McCain's or anyone else in terms of fundamental accomplishments. Wrote the crime bill, put 100,000 cops on the street, wrote the Violence Against Women Act, which John McCain voted against both of them, was the catalyst to change the circumstance in Bosnia, led by President Clinton, obviously.

Look, I understand what it's like to be a single parent. When my wife and daughter died and my two sons were gravely injured, I understand what it's like as a parent to wonder what it's like if your kid's going to make it.

I understand what it's like to sit around the kitchen table with a father who says, "I've got to leave, champ, because there's no jobs here. I got to head down to Wilmington. And when we get enough money, honey, we'll bring you down."

I understand what it's like. I'm much better off than almost all Americans now. I get a good salary with the United States Senate. I live in a beautiful house that's my total investment that I have. So I -- I am much better off now.

But the notion that somehow, because I'm a man, I don't know what it's like to raise two kids alone, I don't know what it's like to have a child you're not sure is going to -- is going to make it -- I understand.

I understand, as well as, with all due respect, the governor or anybody else, what it's like for those people sitting around that kitchen table. And guess what? They're looking for help. They're looking for help. They're not looking for more of the same.

IFILL: Governor?

PALIN: People aren't looking for more of the same. They are looking for change. And John McCain has been the consummate maverick in the Senate over all these years.

He's taken shots left and right from the other party and from within his own party, because he's had to take on his own party when the time was right, when he recognized it was time to put partisanship aside and just do what was right for the American people.
That's what I've done as governor, ALSO, take on my own party, when I had to, and work with both sides of the aisle, in my cabinet, appointing those who would serve regardless of party, Democrats, independents, Republicans, whatever it took to get the job done.

ALSO, John McCain's maverick position that he's in, that's really prompt up to and indicated by the supporters that he has. Look at Lieberman, and Giuliani, and Romney, and Lingle, and all of us who come from such a diverse background of -- of policy and of partisanship, all coming together at this time, recognizing he is the man that we need to leave -- lead in these next four years, because these are tumultuous times.
We have got to win the wars. We have got to get our economy back on track. We have got to not allow the greed and corruption on Wall Street anymore.

Re: Palin's tax returns

Are there any tax experts out there who know about Todd Palin's snowmachine "business"

It seems to me like a load of BS, just a way to deduct his winnings from income taxes, and to deduct a little more of his income on the side. Is it really legit to claim something as a "business" if you have no way of ever turning a profit on it? I mean he got 1st and 2nd and still lost $$!! Remarkable!

Plus the whole issue of per-diem's never showed up in their tax returns, plus she never reported any of the $25,000 in gifts she received as gov ... Remarkable!

If the IRS wasn't so in the tank for McCain it would audit her

because it made promiscuous sex “look like fun.”

Look? Shit you ain't doing it right then.

Pelosi votes on the bail-out, and then lectures to us about accountability!
Palin is at odds with McSame about surrendering Michigan. Newspapers try to hide behind free speech in accepting adverts for that Obsession dvd.

More reality TV for teh masses...............oops..........more soma for the masses.

Will MediCare pay for my Soma?

Stranger in a Strange Land

Sarah Palin is a Delta.

The bail-out won't stop the recession, and won't automatically make loans more available.

which corporation is more evil.....Wal-Mart or Exxon? vote here......http://freddiefallout.blogspot.com

I saw that movie in a course I took on Science Fiction in the 12th grade. I thought it was kind of lame, especially with Bud Cort playing the protaganist. He looked like a child in an adult's body.

At John McCain's age, and with his history, there is a 25% to 33% chance that he will die during his first term.
Think about that! If McCain wins and dies, Sarah Palin is POTUS! I can't think of a scarier thought!
Well, maybe Ann Coulter in the White House...............

NY Times: A.I.G. Uses $61 Billion of Fed Loan

The American International Group said on Friday that it had already drawn down $61 billion of the $85 billion emergency bridge loan it received from the Federal Reserve two weeks ago, an announcement that startled credit ratings agencies.

The emergency loan was supposed to buy the company time to sell its troubled assets in an orderly manner. But the sell-off has not yet begun, and now the insurer faces the additional pressure of trying to sell the businesses at a time when potential buyers are having trouble borrowing money.

Moody’s downgraded A.I.G.’s senior unsecured debt on Friday and said it might downgrade other types of the company’s debt, which could make it more expensive for A.I.G. to borrow money and do business.

Only if it pays for Viagra first.

I've read a couple of good books lately that I'm sure Sarah would like to ban
- The Handmaid's Tale by Canadian Margaret Atwood - her only science fiction effort, very scary vision of a twisted concubinage in a theocratic regime.

- His Dark Materials by England's Philip Pulman - the first novel in this trilogy was the basis of the movie The Golden Compass. It isn't all about armored polar bears, but features yet another religious order willing to kill to protect the tenets of their faith.

Fundies know promiscuous sex is fun. That's why they practice it so religiously.

Is Sarah an "Aunt"?

America is peering into the abyss these days. George W. Bush warns that the entire American economy is in danger. “Millions of Americans could lose their jobs.” And how is the world reacting? With fear, with indignation, but also with glee and a certain amount of barely disguised Schadenfreude. As Brazil’s President Lula da Silva said when asked about the financial crisis, “What crisis? Go ask Bush about that.”

Anger is taking over. Hadn’t the United States preached the blessings of the free market to the whole world? Didn’t they demonize every attempt at government regulation only to now find themselves putting giant mortgage investment banks and insurers under government control?

But the anger has deeper roots. It flared up first when Bush’s “war on terror” suddenly ignored national borders. It flared up when the President invaded Iraq in defiance of international law, and when he built that shameful prison camp in Guantanamo. From that anger came bewilderment when America started arguing about the legitimacy of torture. That country wasn’t “our” country any longer.

And now, saving the worst for last, as Wall Street bankers descend into ruin, they are pulling us down with them at dizzying speed and amid deep fear of repeating the Great Depression of 1929.

I think everyone has the situation wrong.

Here's my take:
The Republicans know they are NOT going to win in November.
Right now they have charge of all the weapons and the military.
This 700 billion is blackmail.

There is no way the NeoCons are handing over this government. It's theirs now

They are pushing the American people into disgust and chaos from both sides.

Cheney and Bush will crash Wall Street and declare Martial Law. The tanks stay with them.

Overall, the Palins reported a gross income of $127,869 in 2006, and paid taxes amounting to $11,944 (an effective rate of 9.3 percent). In 2007, the family reported earning a gross income of $166,080 ($107,987.00 of which came from Gov. Palin) and paid taxes totaling $24,738, for a rate of 14.9 percent.

But there is some discrepancy with the latter number. According to an accompanying 2007 personal financial disclosure report, Palin's "income" as governor of Alaska was $196,531.50, well above the $107,987.00 that was noted on her W2 form from that same year. An email was sent to the McCain campaign for clarification. And this story will be updated should aides reply.

Palin's personal financial disclosure form also showed a moderate amount of assets. The family has ownership or interest in several properties, including tracts on several Alaska fishing spots. And Todd made between $50,000 and $100,000 from British Petroleum's retirement plan.

-----

I think that a lovely new Obama ad is needed that would tell the Palins just how much less taxes that they would pay under Obama's tax plan than McCain's tax plan... that might get some attention.

let's hope that this bailout is the final disgrace that bush/cheney visit on america.

Soldiers are supposed to take an oath to uphold the Constitution. However, many of them believe that following the orders of their Commander-in-Chief, regardless of his/her actions, is part of that. So you get to the heart of the delima. The Constitution is just a piece of (toilet) paper to the Shrub and Darth Cheney. They'll have no hesitation in ordering marshall law if they think it would be possible. Will the soldiers make the judgement that the Constitution is more than just a piece of paper or will they simply "follow orders".

And don't forget to read up on NDSP 51 from the Whitehouse's own web site. You think this isn't planned for? Think again -- a financial crisis that threatens to disrupt the 'continuity of goverment functions' (hmm, CA just announced the need for $7B to deal with credit meltdown) is one of the many triggers that allows for long-term marshal law to be enacted. Cheney is probably hiding in his bunker with a hard-on for the collapse of the economy.

you don't want to go to war with vladimir putin, do you? well it's time for congress to act now, if not yesterday, to enact the great russia privacy act and enfencement alaska ordinance. seems the russians are really sick of looking at all those appliances scattered about the yards of wasilla residences. according to putin "we have tried to understand american sense of style and appropriateness and frankly, we just don't get it. if we can afford refrigerators like rich americans, we put them inside house. also, all the angry dogs on chains which are endlessy barking all day is giving us headache. we demand america put up privacy fence now... on ALASKA side!... but to russia side of Sarah Palin, who keeps staring at us all day... with her 'serial killer glasses'" - they say this makes them very uncomfortable.

I don't want to imply that a McCain presidency would openly want to ban books in this country but the reality is that the current operating partners in the republican party have already laid the ground work for exactly that. I believe that we may see a huge splinter in the Republican party similar to that when for a four year period there was not one. From 84-88 Lincoln ran on the Union Party ticket uniting Republicans and War Democrats in response to his displeasure with his party. The proposition of a Bloomberg/Hagel ticket although not perfect would certainly be a refreshing thing in the midst of this economic collapse. I wouldn't guarantee them my vote but I'd love to have them at the debates.

skippy @ 33:

I liked Bogart and Mitchum in that role. I think Garner did it too but doesn't stick in my memory as anything special. Dick Powell may well be the best. On Zeitgeist alone.

Why does the GOP only like beautiful women? That seems to be the message they keep floating. During the debate why did Palin wink and turn around? Was all of that to promote her sex appeal to men? It seems that the GOP’s beliefs and message says that when a woman is a candidate issues do not matter, the real priority is does she look good and can she follow orders. Is this the reason why the GOP spent so much time on the message that Hillary was old and ugly?

Sarah? Is that you?

I ALSO want the future history books to ALSO declare that ALSO in 2008 John McCain and ALSO Sarah Palin ALSO ran ALSO.

That's Missouri for ya.

Rep. Roy Blunt's latest campaign ad takes pains to inform local voters that high gas prices are due to "liberal extremists." Tom DeLay's own stealth protégé has no misgivings about assuming that most of his constituents are blithering idiots. Sadly, he is quite correct.

One thing wrong with the bail out is that many of the homeowners who purchased property and defaulted on their loans purchased Mortgage Insurance.

Mortgage insurance covers the banks loan balance, not your principle. When you default, your bank is able to recover the amount of your loan, or a good chunk of it from the company that writes the mortgage insurance.

This is still not brought up very much if at all.

The lending industry has built in safeguards against "bad" homeowners.

This shouldn't be happening.

O.J.'s found guilty. Will bigoted white people be happy that he finally got justice, while ignoring the murderers at the top, or will this incident be used against Obama?

Unlike the great depression, our government is NOT purchasing property. If they are, it is a fraction of the bailout package.

What they are purchasing is the paper assets that traded based on the mortgages that were originally written.

These are the paper assets that are going to be the focus of the investigation that some congress folk said "would send someone to jail."

These assets were also improperly rated as AAA. This is known but has not been vetted or prosecuted.

So we are buying paper that is already known to be bogus, based on crooked deeds, the companies that hold it say "it is difficult to place a value on it." and we are told it might make us money?

Arrest the treasurer and Bernanke and the SEC chairman. Impeach the majority of congress and the senate who voted for either bills passage for armed robbery of the American people. Turn the taser on George and Dick and leave the room.

All of the above people are guilty of using terroristic threats to extort money from the people.

hold on....im happy that he is finally getting justice, and i am not bigotted

do you think he got convicted cuz he is black?

he is an evil person

Joe: I don't think he got convicted because he was black, but the outrage by white people against his acquittal was worse than it ever was for the release of those thugs who murdered Emmet Till.

I kind of think the whole case unfairly inspired the movement against affirmative action in my state; but that's just me.

I'm hoping that faith in the vow to protect the constitution will override any orders from the administration.

I am aware of all you said. Let's hope that they honor the oath. They are not sheep like the average citizen and they are the ones with the weapons.

But they are sheep. Soldiers are trained to take orders. It's their first priority. If their commanders give them the order to enforce martial law, they'll do so. Have you seen what much of the duty is like in Iraq? House to house searches. Kicking in doors and rousting the civilians, literally bagging the men and taking them away to prison to be tortured by other soldiers. Of course, the Bush gang has thought about how to lessen the soldiers sense of conscience about harming their own people by insuring that the guards from say, Florida will be serving in Washington and so on.
Don't forget too that the Canadian army and the US army signed a deal that in times of "emergency", either army can cross the border to assist. Without being asked for by any politician.

When is somebody going to get around to banning the Bible.

Yeah, that book is chock full of violence, sex, and vulgarity. I'm pretty sure all 10 commandments are violated at least once. That book is a bad influence on the youth of this country!

My biggest issue with the Bible are the severe continuity problems found through the book...

Alas, let's be honest the bible is a book written by committee and it shows. If you read Genesis, they are actually relating at least 3 different traditions (combining multiple myths of creation from previous cultures established in the near East and Mesopotamia/Persia). Heck you can do a great study of seeing which "lobby" groups were in full force, at the time any specific book in the torah was written, by simply checking which inane laws god was coming up with during that specific book.

And it is funny how most Christians are unaware that the Gospels were written centuries after the supposed death of Jesus and their actual authors are unknown... never mind that the new testament itself was also edited by a committee of newly converted Roman power brokers.

The sad part is the fact that billions of people actually took the silly book literally.

As Neil Postman noted in Amusing Ourselves To Death, we all patted ourselves on the back when 1984 came and went and we were not drinking Victory Gin, but we didn't realize that the prophecy of Brave New World really did come true.

I'm thinking of an Obama campaign ad.

A baseball player is at bat. He swings and misses. Strike One. Swings and misses. Strike Two. Swings and misses. Strike Three.

The umpire calls him out.

Before the player can leave the bat box, a man in a suit comes out and whispers to the ump. The ump looks mad, but gestures to the player to get back into his stance.

He swings and misses again.

The umpire calls him out again.

The man in the suit hands the umpire a folded piece of paper, and talks to him again. The ump again lets the player take another swing.

He swings and misses. Over and over again, with the man in the suit continuing to get him more chances.

Voiceover: The Republicans have had their chance and they have struck out. They've tanked. They've run this country into the ground. They will not get us out of this. They cannot.

McCain you're out. Face it.

You couldn't hit the ball if it was on a tee.

Fannie Mae forgives loan for woman who shot herself

(CNN) -- Fannie Mae said it will set aside the loan of a woman who shot herself as sheriff's deputies tried to evict her from her foreclosed home.

On Friday, Fannie Mae spokesman Brian Faith said the mortgage association had decided to halt action against Polk and sign the property "outright" to her.

"We're going to forgive whatever outstanding balance she had on the loan and give her the house," Faith said. "Given the circumstances, we think it's appropriate."

illegal to give away public money on a whim.

I'm just watching "Real Time" from last week. Lisa Shiffren was on. I don't really know her work, but I've never seen a person get pwned as quickly and definitively as this. In the space of 25 seconds, at the beginning of the panel segment, Bill Maher effectively shows she has no clue, and nothing to stand on. It is stunning how quickly it happens.

Shiffren: "Republicans rely on rational arguments...not emotional fuzziness."

[Bill's 'oh come on' look is priceless.]

Maher: "And we're gonna stick to that story? This is the party that nominated Sarah Palin."

Shiffren: "Who...of all things...who could deny that she invokes this warm and---"

The moment that follows is pure beauty. Priceless.

For the christiofascist GOPer's, sex is suppose to be some kind of sleazy filthy thing that no one talks about or mentions. Maybe that's why they think they won't get caught cruising for it in public restrooms. Hehehehehe..........

Maybe if they let these sexually frustrated (and closet self loathers) go out and have a little fun (without having to worry about their lives coming to an end as they know it), maybe they wouldn't spend the rest of their time being so vicious to the rest of us.

Those are the kind of "Mavericks" the voters should put down on election day.

The Democrats OWN Paulson's Plunder Package. IT NOW BELONGS TO THEM, and they had to buy off the Republicans with PORK to get it. In six months (or less) when the swindle and its failure becomes clear(er), WHAT WILL THEY DO FOR AN ENCORE?

They may get the White House but the Swindler in Chief has handed them a poison pill of monstrous proportions and THEY BIT! AND LET HIM OFF THE HOOK!

Meanwhile poor Addie Polk will be the poster person for what should have been done, which was to BUY the impending mortgages in default.

I heard an NPR NEWS person describe the 'Bailout' Swindle as 'buying mortgages'. It is no such thing, will that be the PROPAGANDA PROGRAM?

Cause it AIN'T SO, they will keep going in default and how will the Democrats going to explain that?

Lotsa luck with this abomination folks!

McCain is expected to hit hard in the next debate the refrain "Obama is going to raise your taxes!" I hope someone in the Obama campaign right now is crunching the numbers on the tax increase every working American with employer provided health benefits will pay under McCains health insurance plan. My guess is that if enacted it will amount to the largest single tax increase in American history on the middle, working class. With those figures in hand next week, Obama will be able to slap the old man down on that charge in real time and take that argument away for the remainder of the campaign.

Wait a minute...

Promiscuous sex isn't fun?

All they really did was give money for nothing. Wall Street said "we have debts will you give us money?"....They did. Why? What good does that do? Nothing. I have many debts I'd just love the government to give me the money to pay for.

I have no idea why they didn't wait till after the election to do this, when they will have large majorities in all three elected branches.

I guess some people just don't get allegory. The kids they protected went on to play in the "erotic games" in high school and college and most of them went on to follow the path that others set for them. The censors might should have read Brave New World Revisited before rendering a judgment.

Front page of today's librul New York Times. Bill Ayers and his association with Obama http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/04/us/politics/04ayers.html?hp

The quote I like best: "In a televised interview last spring, Senator John McCain, Mr. Obama’s Republican rival, asked, “How can you countenance someone who was engaged in bombings that could have or did kill innocent people?”

Maverick, hello? George Bush and Dick Cheney? Hello? Maverick are you there, hello?

Or this one: “If you’re in public life, you ought to say, ‘I don’t want to be associated with this guy,’ ” Mr. Chapman said. “If John McCain had a long association with a guy who’d bombed abortion clinics, I don’t think people would say, ‘That’s ancient history.’ ”

No, John McCain has a close association with people who recently bombed a nation on false pretenses resulting in deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians and sticking the American taxpayer with the bill for so doing. I guess cause they're not American, their skin is brown, they're half a world away and it was to steal their oil it doesn't matter much.

Another booked banned that warns of the dangers of banning books.

I read Brave New World for my high school senior English class in 1984. (And I read 1984 on my own, finishing it over Christmas vacation between 1983 and 1984--creepy, huh?)

It's definitely a book that stays with you. I think I re-read it once about 15-20 years ago, but when a friend mentioned a medication called "Soma" a few days ago, I immediately thought of the book. I said, "Ah, somebody's (meaning the namer of the drug) been reading their Huxley". To which everyone at the lunch table at work said, "Huh?" *rolls eyes* I had to explain what I meant.

It's her first book, and she's done a wonderful job. The target audience is 10 to14-year-olds, but I read it and loved it as have other adults who reviewed it for Amazon.

Promiscuous sex is fun--don't let teenagers know. Especially since we don't teach comprehensive sex education; it is imperative that they are taught all the evils of sex. Remember teenagers: if you have sex you will get a social disease, get pregnant, then die. Now does that sound like fun?

Look, mandatory promiscuous sex is not really my idea of fun, okay?

I'm glad Brave New World made it look that way, though. I mean, here I thought I when the few individuals presented as rational thinkers in the automatic dystopia were afraid and disgusted by the stormtroopers bombing them with happy gas that prompted cries of "orgy-porgy!" from the sheeple, they were actually just afraid and disgusted by all the fun they were having!

With that mandatory promiscuous sex.

I can't really take Brave New World all that seriously, though. I mean, the book is basically about the elite's desparate attempt to control the ever-increasing number of people on the planet, which is alright in and of itself, except that the only source of new people on the planet are workers employed by the elite in factories operated by the elite pushing buttons engineered by the elite that say "make more people".

1984, George Orwell

Challenged in the Jackson County, FL (1981) because Orwell's novel is "pro-communist and contained explicit sexual matter." Source: 2004 Banned Books Resource Guide by Robert P. Doyle.

I haven't read 1984 since the 8th or 9th grade, but after 8 years of the Orwellian Bush Administration and the fact that I just installed my first telescreen (an LCD monitor with built in microphone and video camera) I figured I should read it again...

How anyone can see 1984 as pro-communist is beyond me. When I read it in 8th or 9th grade (required reading, in 1979 or 1980), I associated it with life in the Soviet Union or China. Hardly pro Communist. It should be required reading in EVERY American classroom.

How ironic that someone tried to ban 1984!

1984 pro-communist? *falls down laughing*

It's been a while since I read it or anything about it, but didn't Orwell write it in response to his outrage over the USSR's supposed "socialism"? Orwell was a socialist, and he didn't like the USSR calling themselves socialist when they were clearly not.

While we're on the subject of Orwell...

My late mother-in-law was a high school English teacher who retired in 2000. For many years, she taught the book Animal Farm. Every year, she was disgusted that the kids couldn't get past the fact that the animals were talking. "Mrs. Y., why do the animals talk?" Two weeks or more after they had started discussing the bloody book!

*headdesk*

Geez, now I have to go start digging out books that I want to re-read. I'm right in the middle of Elmer Gantry, and a friend just loaned me Twilight (we're both Harry Potter fans, and she recommends Twilight), but I know what I'll be reading next.

*goes in search of 1984 and Animal Farm, among others*
