Residents Take Offense At Name Of New Hackensack Smoke Shop

HACKENSACK — Residents say the name of a smoke shop on Main Street is a thinly veiled profanity that doesn't belong in their neighborhood, the Record reported.

But Fu King Smoke Shop owner Robert Reichert disputes that his store's name is inappropriate and said "Fu" is Chinese for wealth or lucky.

Gordon Whiting, vice principal of nearby Fairmount School, said the name seemed inappropriate and was concerned about the store's proximity to students. School Board member Jason Nunnermacker said the name was offensive and that he hoped the city would act.
