Nomi was probably best known for his strange appearance and his countertenor range. Essentially, that puts him on par with female contraltos/mezzo-sopranos, which, for most male singers, is pretty unheard of. With this rare ability, Nomi was able to bridge contemporary genres like new wave with baroque opera, which made for some pretty interesting musical experimentation.
