Heard this one for the first time in a long time and forgot how interesting it was within the world of jazz.

This song is a bit unique in that it is Adderley's biggest hit (monetarily, anyways), but it's probably one of his least jazzy songs. In fact, it could probably even be argued that it crosses the line into R&B. However, Adderley didn't write it. Heck, he didn't even solo over it because it wasn't close enough to jazz. It was written by Joe Zawinul, his keyboardist at the time and the future leader of Weather Report, a band known for its explorations into jazz fusion. A lot of history behind this one, whether it's jazzy enough for you or not.

Got any favorite works by an artist that came out before they were big?
