Former President Jimmy Carter announced on Sunday that he learned that his "cancer was gone" after a recent visit to the doctor.

According to The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Carter made the announcement Sunday morning while teaching his Sunday School class at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.

“He said he got a scan this week and the cancer was gone,” Jill Stuckey told the paper. “The church, everybody here, just erupted in applause.”

Earlier this year, Carter said that liver cancer had spread to other parts of his body, including four spots of melanoma on his brain.
