Thomas Frank is, admittedly, the token liberal op-ed writer at The Wall Street Journal. And it's hard to say whether Murdoch's minions let this one slip through on purpose to lend credibility to the newspaper, or by accident:

To point out that this network [FOX News] is different, that it is intensely politicized, that it inhabits an alternate reality defined by an imaginary conflict between noble heartland patriots and devious liberals—to be aware of these things is not the act of a scheming dictatorial personality. It is the obvious conclusion drawn by anybody with eyes and ears.

The comment section had me splitting a gut laughing, especially this one:

Dr. Charles Krauthammer is a conservative respected on both the right and the left.

Far be it for me to speak for the right. But is there anyone on the Left who has "respect" for Charles Krauthammer? (Tweety doesn't count.)

That didn't take long. The page is down. Guess Rupert heard about it.

[I emailed the team. The oped is still up as of 10:20 PDT-Sitemonitor]

that's the secret

"Far be it for me to speak for the right. But is there anyone on the Left who has "respect" for Charles Krauthammer? (Tweety doesn't count.)"

Then no - none - zip - zilch - nada

Well - there is this

:)

PS - Tweety isn't left of anything IMO

Very classy.

...

You betcha!

last January before he took office.

I would imagine that should qualify as someone on the Left who has respect for Charles Krauthammer.

Maybe Jimmy Carter does too, since he hired him back when he was President. Or Walter Mondale, since he hired him, too.

Well, doesn't that make Mr. Krauthammer special?

It does, however, answer bluegal's question I think, though.

No?

On this subject, I will let Ms Bluegal speak for herself. Today is not my day to represent her in a line of discourse.

but I wasn't trying to make a bold proclamation- -it was just my previous perception that Krauthammer was respected by liberals, too. So I found those three examples in about ten seconds.

No big deal.

... you should respect anyone I respect. I am, after all, a long-standing member of the media elite, having rubbed shoulders with Dan Rather and Bob Schieffer. Hell, I've even been nominated for an Emmy Award.

Is that you Stephen Colbert? :)

... I *didn't* get a treadmill on the International Space Station named after me.

Oh, okay, nevermind. I was about to tell you about the crush I have on you.

So you didn't get a treadmill on the Space Station named after you. You are such a loser. ;)

bluegal asked if anyone on the Left respected Krauthammer. I gave you three examples, two of them Dem presidents and a former Dem VP.

Asked and answered.

Do you need more examples, or something.

One gets an MD from medical school, not a PhD. No one on the left respects this nasty little GOP/conservative shill. STFU if you don't know what you're talking about, And you don't.

...

*high fives*

Obama, Carter, and Mondale didn't ask me.

And I didn't ask them.

To assert that Krauthammer is respected by those on both the left and the right is a ridiculous statement, because - as you've proven - you can hit Google and find instances of those who agree and disagree.

and he worked for Carter and Mondale yonks ago. Are you the same person you were in 76? If you are, let's see that portrait of you in your attic.
Obama is a corporate centrist.

Good one. I come here mainly for the laughs and it took me a while this time.

Just like Clinton triangulated in his first term and cozied up to Greenspan, Summers and Rubin for survival and reelection, Obama knows where his bread is going to be buttered too.

Did you watch that Frontline special "The Warning" that Susie Madrak posted on here last week, mk? It doesn't have anything to do with being centrist or corporatist; it's about winning. If he doesn't win, he can't get his socialist agenda enacted.

.

And anyone who cozies up to the likes of Greenspan, Summers and Rubin for survival and reelection, or bails out monolithic banking concerns is not on 'the left.' All that activity equals precluding factors.

It's the actions, not the words.

your delusions run far more deeply than I ever suspected.

And thanks for not calling me a racist on your first post this time, mk.

before you come here with the trollage:

anyone who cozies up to the likes of Greenspan, Summers and Rubin for survival and reelection, or bails out monolithic banking concerns is not on 'the left.' All that activity equals precluding factors.

It's the actions, not the words.

Obama is much closer to YOUR philosophy than you would ever care to admit.

and if he wasn't such a hack golfer I wouldn't mind playing 18 holes with him, or even playing some hoops too for that matter. But, no, mk, the radicals he's so fond of cozying up to are not my kinds of buds.

And wow, I guess I haven't been spending that much time here to know that you weren't all that jazzed about the guy. Is Left and Left calling YOU a racist now like he did everyone else who ever said anything slightly negative about him?

masochist. So do not call me by my first name. Call me "Ma'am."

Where did he buy it, Wal-Mart? Woolworths? The man is a drooling half-wit. Doesn't speak well for the institution that granted him the degree.

is a lifetime of sitting in a room at a desk.

Where you eventually start believing your own hype.

... B.S., well, we know what that is.
... M.S. = More of the Same
... PhD. = Piled Higher & Deeper

Same place he bought his Pulitzer.

Before that he was a Commonwealth Scholar at Oxford.

How about you?

... I'm just a peon. I didn't go to Hahvahd and can't possibly compete with stellar intellectual luminaries like Charles Krauthammer.

But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night ...

Shdadowgm, neither where you went or whether or not you could compete with Charles Krauthammer on any given topic. But I also didn't make the allusion that he bought his degree at some podunk medical college, either.

I think Alan Grayson is an opportunistic moron and a clown, but to call him dumb is wrong. He graduated in three years from Harvard, summa cum laude.

... attendance at Harvard Medical School mandates automatic respect.

Plenty of thieves and liars have fancy degrees. Men of the cloth are embroiled in child molestation scandals. Men of faith are caught up in adultery.

I've not seen behavior out of Mr. Krauthammer that would merit respect outside of routine social courtesies.

.

dennis respects post grads from Hahavahd...

I didn't postulate that.

My reply was to Paul when he asked this:

"Where did he buy it, Wal-Mart? Woolworths? The man is a drooling half-wit. Doesn't speak well for the institution that granted him the degree."

He asked, I answered. You jumped in. The guy's not a half-wit, and to make light of a paraplegic's drooling is beyond the pale, even for comments on a blog.

... doesn't make a comment "beyond the pale." The assault was obviously on his intellect not on his disability.

Got it.

Same with Handypants picture of Krauthammer's head photo-shopped on top of a baked chicken with stub wings.

The assaults are ALL about the intellect when the guy's about as smart as they come.

You've gotta admit that it explains his facial expressions pretty well.

you were quite shocked and outraged when Rush Limbaugh imitated Michael J. Fox when he didn't take his Parkinson's medication before he filmed his commercial for the stem cells legislation in 2006, weren't you?

And I would be equally shocked if Charles Krauthammer had a condition which produced symptoms similar to a half-baked chicken with a beer can up its a$$.

But that condition is not a disability in Krauthammer; it is merely an uncannily accurate interpretation of his neocon intellect.

Point to fiver!

No one is making fun of his disability. We are pointing out that even though he has a degree from Harvard, his stances on many issues are reprehensible.

Even Harvard grads can spout Fox talking points and sound stupid.

you celebrated and defended Rush Limbaugh's imitation of Michael J. Fox, as a Parkinson's sufferer

go back and check the archives. Usually when you think I'm defending anything, the more accurate case is that I'm defending the taking it to extremes that commenters here are always so anxious to do. Big difference, but I guess it's a useful pasttime for some.

this has become a thread ALL ABOUT dennis.

Starring denis as himself. Produced and directed by denis. Written by denis, with political references written by Rupurt Murdach and Charles Krauthammer.

everything else has been in reply to someone else. I've never once replied to any one of your posts because there's no challenge in it nor even the possibility of getting in a good laugh.

A no-win situation.

go ahead dennis. that's how a troll spins it: "Not MY fault!"

You're still arguing that since he has a degree from a prestigious university, he's not a lackwit, but deserving of respect.

Now, in matters medical, I'd probably grant him the respect his achievements as a physician earn. That doesn't mean he's some fount of wisdom on everything else.

It's like papal infallibility. What the Pope believes about the Word of God is one thing, what the Pope believes about the Yanks/Phillies World Series is another.

... George W. Bush receive a graduate degree from the same university?

Also, it appears Dr. Krauthammer practiced medicine for about 3 years.

I don't care to argue with you whether or not a medical degree from Harvard makes someone an expert on anything and everything. I just answered Paul's question about where he got his degree from and that it wasn't Wal-mart or Woolworth's. He said it didn't speak well for the institution, wherever that was. If you took the time to read his accomplishments, I think you'd disagree with that.

And here's what another far-Left liberal said about him:

“He became Ground Zero among the neo-cons, but he’s vastly smarter than most of them,” said Time’s Joe Klein, an admirer and critic who praised Krauthammer’s “writing skills and polemical skills” as “so far above almost anybody writing columns today.”

--Joe Klein

He also said something horribly idiotic in that same column, but it's not on-topic here.

Krauthammer probably wrote it himself. The only reason someone would be a conservative in this day and age is if one's selfishness outweighed one's intellect.

Ok,

Krauthammer probably wrote it himself.

You say that as an assertion. Please defend that and enlighten us all.

Please tell us on what basis did you added the qualifier 'Probably'.

The only reason someone would be a conservative in this day and age is if one's selfishness outweighed one's intellect.

Please tell me on what basis outside of anecdotal evidence and conjecture you base this assertion, too, savannah. I'll provide studies that refute that conservatives are more selfish, but since you made the assertion, you go first.

Look up the word, "parse" in the dictionary. That is the basis for all of your arguments, denis. And the reason I said "probably," was to leave open the possibility that you wrote the blather about him in Wiki.

that you write whatever comes to your mind.

No facts, no backing, no reasoning, no anything.

... and Gene Simmons just declared me the best ballerina in Podunk.

Any one buying tickets?

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Dennis dennis dennis...ROTFLMAO Jokeline, a 'liberal.' Shit man you owe me new laptop...I just sprayed coffee all over this one reading your assessment of a guy who works for Time Inc, and who is known by his adopted name allover the 'progressive blogosphere' as Jokeline.

grandfather, the Nazi sympathizer, went there before him. Give enough money and "prestige" to a school, they let you attend no matter how thick you are in reality.

Texas turned GWB down for law school. He had a Yale sheepskin plenty of political connections, yet his performance at Yale was so bad that Texas Law said "No." Of course, Yale still gave him a degree for that performance, and Harvard had no problem admitting him and doing the same.

I gotta go look.

actually elevated the prestigousness of Wharton and Princeton, since those schools actually have academic standards that they adhere to, and do not relax for anyone, regardless of their celebrity or legacy.

Brooke Shields, Jodie Foster and Dean Cain are a few celebrities that actually cracked open books and busted their asses for their degrees, while Bush bullshytted his way through on his Pappy's dime.

Which means to afford Krauthammer any respect because he came out of Harvard is like saying the school you came from determines how much your opinion is to be respected, whether or not it sounds like absolute bullshyt.

How embarrassing for them. Andover is not doing so well in this discussion, either, are they? The thought of GWB with a law degree is too funny. I will be laughing about that possibility every time I think about it for at least 24 hours.

a willingness to adhere to academic standards and not familial legacy. After all, law schools keep their accreditation based upon the success of their students, and Bush would have added to the quotient of those flunking out.

didn't lose respect was "Skull and Crossbones." Clearly, a school for scoundrels.

a nearly clean bill of health...

none the less. Stellar, stellar diagnosis.

From his diagnosis I half expected her to jump up out of bed when that feeding supply was finally turned off (again).

Dumbasses. Every last one of that Repuke bunch. So much for that sacred dr/patient bond and beaurecrats getting in the middle of it.

...

Spot on

he's the prick Ob-GYN from Oklahoma who wants to deny a woman's right to choose, and probably did so when he practiced medicine.

He'll always be associated with Santorum, won't he?

Dennis, you must be that "lefty" who respects Krauthammer so much.

that I'm not too far off from him on, yes.

Did you know that about him, or did you just assume he's conservative straight down the line?

And I do know Krauthammer is a constistent liar who works in the name Fox...hey, like you.

He's still awaiting his first promised paycheck. Of course, Rupert wouldn't lie to him...

I wouldn't mind getting a job there as a chyron operator.

How much fun would that be, huh?

"What's the Matter with Kansas? (film) 2009 documentary movie based on Thomas Frank's best-selling book of the same name." (Wiki)

See Kansas thread! lol

... wasn't that the cartoon featuring the rambunctious German kids?

the (sour) Kraut part comes in.

Approximately "cat's holler"

Also slang for a hangover. A fascist hangover in this case.

a Chinese Girl with big connections just so he could get a jump-head start into the Last Frontier of Capitalism.

LOL nothing personal but . . Oh wait no it had nothing to do with that it was "Love"

Franks is going down on the elevator, personal affects in a box as we type.

for "overdue maintenance"...

a perfect name for a GOP toadie.

Sauer-Krauthammer?

big party in Washington whats up C+L? Hit's are booming on other web sites.

"The comment section had me splitting a gut laughing, especially this one:

Dr. Charles Krauthammer is a conservative respected on both the right and the left."

The comment was left by chazzaK, CK, Charlie_Kraut, or Mrs. Charles Krauthammer...

Mrs. Charles Krauthammer

That poor woman.

Now

THAT'S FUNNY!

(sorry I had to yell)

writes for the Wall Street Journal??

I respect that he will continue to be wrong about everything he believes.
I respect that he will continue to stubbornly resist the truth and facts since they do not fit his preconceived notion of how the world should be.
I respect that Krauthammer will be among the first of the ghouls to cheer for wars of aggression.
I respect that Krauthammer will remain smug and condescending to everyone around him, regardless of how demonstrably wrong he is on everything that comes out of his mouth.

News is now entertainment. How big can you get the ratings? That's the game, the money is the prize. Foxnews is at least consistant with their bias. MSNBC is a close second. I don't care if it's O'Reilly, Hannity, Beck, Schultz, Scarborough, etc., these people are in it for the money, they're entertainers who occationally show up on late night talk shows like Conan and Dave's to pimp their latest books.
I love how Fox is the only one called out.
Politics has become a giant show with congressmen and senators who have become "stars". Some villains, some good-guys, but all on the take. Once out of office is when the real payday begins. The "news" are their promotional and marketing vehicles.

The news division of a network used to be the black hole of budgets, same as for newspapers.

Now, my boss comes back from a meeting with a publisher about twice a month and the discussion is now: How do we make money in the newsroom? Thankfully my boss isn't a sellout, so we just have to deal with more and more budget cuts.

Take your token liberals when you can get them.

I have about as much respect for Mr. Krauthammer as I do a sack full of cracked hammers.

like weighting down a body in the Hudson. The Krauthammer floats...

please tell it to those "noble heartland patriots"; in their minds they are at war, first with the great satan--liberals, and second with the republican party that let them down. and since liberals are the enemy, it means that we are not to be talked to while they are leading us out of darkness. and the funny thing is that some of the things they are talking about now, i believe the ron paul video about 1953/1979 iran and blowback is now circulating, are things discussed back in 2001 by liberals, for which liberals were called traitors. i wish i could smack them wise, but they are not talking to us.

yep, everyone has their cause and they always call it a war.
How nonchalant they use a term that cost 68 coalition military member their lives in October alone (in Afghanistan)... and some of them were there just because they needed health insurance (that our senators are at "war" trying to stop).

Apparently does not include the mainstream media, who all supported with Fixed Noise in its fight with the White House. How can the MSM support an intensely partisan outlet that is a propaganda machine? This certainly does not reflect well on the MSM, whom the American public once counted on to fairly report the news. How can they when they can't see or hear the obvious?

They are all flip flopping conservatives.

um

That is putting it nicely. I could fall into a long string of expletives just before conservatives

Here is the WSJ link to the whole editorial.

My head hurts after trying to read some of the comments.

It's like Orgrimmar* over there.

(*For those that don't understand the reference: Orgrimmar is the capital city of the Orcs and Trolls in the World of Warcraft online game.)

...that I have ZERO respect for Charles Krauthammer (or Krauthimmler as I like to call him when I want to show him the extra measure of DISRESPECT I think he so richly deserves).

But is there anyone on the Left who has "respect" for Charles Krauthammer?

*Crickets*

It's just another nonsense issue being rolled into the teabagger "dummies against everything" campaign. Enjoy:

.

Dr. Charles Krauthammer (what a name) is.......oh crap, I'm being called for dinner.

BTW, wasn't Krauthammer on "Hogan's Heroes"?

That you all are a pretty smart (and witty) group of people? Well, you are.

I respect his freedom of speech
I respect all of his constitutional rights and freedoms.

I respect his strong and deep lexicon and vocabulary, albeit droning at times with too much sloganeering.

I respect his freedcom of movement, freedom to vote, freedoms to share his beliefs and opinions, regardless of facts, without infringement whatsoever.

I disagree with virtually everything he says and believe he is a paid propagandist without any real moral convictions regarding the impact of his rhetoric is having on the public health and well-being.
