Adieu, Marilyn Musgrave: A fond look back
I know we're supposed to be all bipartisan and forgiving and stuff in the wake of the Great Repudiation, but sometimes you've gotta sit back and smell the schadenfreude. Case in point: Colorado Republican Marilyn Musgrave:
Two weeks after the brutal loss, Musgrave still hasn’t called her opponent to concede or to congratulate the victor, as is not only textbook but also mannerly to do.
Moreover, Musgrave’s ill manners bleed into her own team. Rumor has it she still — 14 days later — hasn’t even thanked her campaign staff. (Again, textbook.)
Musgrave press secretary Joseph Brettell tells us: “It’s a campaign matter, and I have no further comment.”
And as for Markey, her campaign manger, Anne Caprara, who is in town this week with her boss for orientation, tells us of Musgrave: “No, she hasn’t called to concede, but we’re moving forward.”
Though the Markey team doesn’t plan on stopping by Musgrave’s office while in town, eventually the two camps will have to touch base — just in terms of transitioning. But curiously, more rumors abound that no one has seen or talked to Musgrave since the brutal loss; she’s all but disappeared.
One of the joys of this past election was seeing the final exit of characters like Musgrave from the nation's political stage. This was, after all, the woman who tried to have Michael Schiavo arrested merely for showing up to one of her events.
My favorite Musgrave moment, though, came with the above video, which shows Musgrave critics trying to get her to answer their questions. Not only does Musgrave ignore them as her entourage shoves the questioners out of the way; but at the end, some of her supporters confront the questioners and physically intimidate them by shoving them and grabbing their mike.
Congratulations to Betsy Markey. She did the whole nation a service.
So, she won't call to congradulate her opponent? What class. But what do you expect from a repug?
To call this mean, dried up skank a bitch is an insult to Leona Helmsley, Aileen Wuornos, that anger management phone throwing super-model bitch, etc.

The local papers and teevees don't cover here nuttiness. If you were to ask 10 of her constitutes about her whole McCarthy-like comment on Hardball, I would bet you that 9 would't know about it.
The local press gives her a complete pass.

Nevertheless, she's still hot in a Martha Stewart sort of way. My guess is she has her own radio talk show in a week, and a loyal following of pinheads that will invite her on the rubber chicken circuit. She won't starve.

asking a congress person, someone who's job it is to listen, being asked as she's going about congressional duties in her district, as opposed to accosting private citizens in restaurants in their driveways on a Saturday, during family time, with whom he disagrees (no other reason), and he sends lackeys to do it -- you don't see the difference? Seriously if you all can watch this, putting aside your dislike for the woman's ideas and policies, and think that this was a smart question, I really pitty you. It really takes something for me to root for the other side, but when that old dude was getting up in the smarmy "reporter's" face I was feeling his rightous indignation. There is nothing wrong with asking a hard and pointed question, but this "reporter" is not doing it.
Ah, you're so wrong. He asked her a question about her priorities, and in the starkest way. Would she save the life of a soldier or prevent a gay marriage? A sane Congressperson would respond in a sane manner, perhaps even turning the tables on the questioner. Musgrave just assaulted the reporter and cameraperson. How was it not a smart question?

And for calling me a troll, for not liking this display of ignorance. As someone who is a life long Democrat, I'm very wiery of idealogs on both sides. I understand if you don't agree with my assessment, but it really does make me pity you. Calling me a troll based on my comment really speaks to the level of even-handedness you may be approaching the conversation with.

purchase a lens protector for the camera and glue some razor blades to it. put a sign on it that says 'danger! sharp!' if you grab ahold of a knife, who is to blame?
or maybe you could try some of those pigeon spikes that are about a half inch long.
or you could just call up your local police precinct and hire an off duty cop to run the camera. then when they grab the camera, it is called felony assault. and the cop gets to give them a beatdown if they resist arrest.

Now that Obama is elected, it's time to push him to bring some morality back to American society instead of getting in bed with pigs for the sake of "togetherness". Me, I'm with Vincent Bugliosi. Let's get Dubya tried for murder. Surely, we can find a way to televise the execution prime-time. Now _that's_ what I call satisfying schadenfreude.
But there _is_ a civilized alternative middle-ground if this nation could rise to grasp it: a nationwide Truth and Reconciliation Commission where this White House fully discloses its activities televised live and archived for easy reference, with the hearings held in various locations around the country so many people could attend them in person, and where the parties can be individually judged for forgiveness. Otherwise, history will judge Obama weak. As the Vietnam crazies were allowed to remain in Washington and become Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld and Vice-President Cheney, it is horrific to imagine what the young monsters of the Bush regime will do to what remains of our country in 30 years. If you are 25, imagine what survival in your middle-age will be like if you think _this_ is bad. If you are over 35, imagine trying to survive at all when you are old if we brush the Bush regime under the carpet today in a moment of weakness.
