Ari Melber speaks up for liberal bloggers

Melber did a nice job yesterday on MSNBC of helping the hapless souls of the mainstream media understand what those dirty frigging hippies of the netroots are bringing to the national discourse -- and sticking up for the anonymous wankers who want to diss their influence.

Milber: "And in the future could you ask your questions in a more condescending manner. I am sure the Liberal blogs didn't feel quite as talked down to as they could".

him to usher in a new era of liberalism. I voted for him mostly because he exudes a sense of competence that this country is starving for after 8 years of the Bush administration, and because we seem to share similar worldviews, which is really why most people vote the way they do, as opposed to individual issues or platforms. I fully expect to agree with some of his decisions and disagree with others, but hope to be outraged by very few.

I did vote for Obama despite his lack of liberalism (too centrist on some issues).

Nonetheless, I am disappointed in his choice for Atty. Gen. After 8 years of republican injustice, why he had to pick the Marc Rich pardon-whore is beyond me. The more I read about this guy, the less I like him.

the boosh ii pardon list.

.

Steve Benen had a piece on him that he offered no legal opinion regarding Rich. He was given Rich's name and passed it along without comment.

Don't believe the right wing blogs.

p.s. I can't post links from my phone. Google it at Washington Monthly.

I voted for Obama despite his "centrist" position.

Would have preferred Kucinich.

But Obama seems competent and I think that it may be reasonable to expect that a BHO Administration can, at least, stop the hemorrhaging caused by Bu$hco.

I saw it was the same old imperialistic foreign policy, held my nose and voted with feint hopes for better domestic policy.

You know what's funny? The MSM actually seems to care about the substance of what liberal bloggers say. When was the last time you heard a similar dialog about a wingnut blog?

I don't know that Ari guy but he did do a good job. I hope to see more of him.

?

What's funny is that another side in the competition for most influence on the public is that very same traditional, mainstream media. They're the one losing ground to the emerging internet formats, and this must be a big reason why they are trying to marginalize the blogosphere in a very condescending manner.

they have such a condescending tone.

They're actually afraid of us. I go to the net for my main news now. I have no doubt they all read us to find out what popular opinion is, and what we're saying. It's a new phenomenon, and I'll bet they didn't see it coming, not so strong. We elected (well not me, I'm Canadian, but... ) BHO and our voices matter, even in your (cough) "centre right" country.

I said we, cuz I've never signed so many petitions, and never thought I'd write a letter to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, but I did.

Look back to Roman times: everyone fears the mob. Don't you forget it!!!!

Resistance (to us) is futile. We just keep coming, by the millions. Hey hey, woo hoo.

...

Yea wouldn't that be nice, to have an influence over the government.

I actually have noticed, some of the comments being repeated on the TV. :P

Yes, so have I. I actually saw some guy during the campaign say something about Joe Sixpack and Betty Winebox. I made that up a couple years ago. Sure somebody else could have made it up for themselves but I am pretty sure that this person got those names, used together, from right here in the comments section of Crooks and Liars.

nice choice!

hmm

I could have sworn it was Bob Keeshan that coined that phrase.

..he had some input from Mr. GreenJeans...

Wingnuts read??? I thought they only had there sacred talk (follow like sheep) radio.

Oh, they read and write but nothing they write make any sense.

it's done in Tongues? :-)

three cheers for ari.

Yes

The internet is showing it has a voice in the running of the goverment. I love it. The MSM reads these bloggs and uses the opinions to get more viewers/sponsors/MONEY. Times they are a chang'in.

Perharps Obama should consult liberal bloggers before appointing anyone for his cabinet?

...maybe everybody should post their own list for a Cabinet
"Dream Team" ?!

And let's forget about the House and Congress, bloggers will make decisions...

that liberal bloggers think Barack Obama is somehow beholden to our decrees.

Do you? Do you think your own ideas for what the government should do are sufficiently sophisticated that they'd have a chance of getting implemented in the Obama administration?

Hey, I'd love to be Obama's science adviser, because darn it, I know what's cool. But I can't claim that I know what's economically and politically viable. Nor do I know how to swim in the shark-infested waters of Washington. Nor do I have serious details to back up my opinions.

Nope, I'm just a blogger. I can google really well, and I love to peruse science and technology news sites.

That's why I think Al Gore would make a great science adviser for president Obama. He knows tech, and he knows politics. He's been a senator and a VP, so none of the Washington bullshit will fool him. The right would be petrified to have Al Gore as Obama's science adviser.

He was elected as a change. Meaning that he will LISTEN to his electorate at least somewhat. So you think elected officials should ignore the electorate? Isn't that what Bush did for 8 years while getting screamed at and ridiculed for not listening?

He was not elected by bloggers. I'm part of his constituency and I aprove of his selections so far. Now what?

...most of the people who post here and on similar sites don't necessarily think that the thoughts/ideas they post will be imcorporated right away into government policy.

But, I think you greatly underestimate the sophistication, the educational background, and level of knowledge many possess and demonstrate on line. I've seen comments from people on here who hold advanced degrees in science, economics, philosophy, political science and other areas of expertise. Many are also quite worldly, as in they are citizens of other countries, or they travel or live in other countries for work or educational purposes.

So, don't be so quick to diss 'em. You and Obama's folks might learn something.

That's me. Bows and leaves room (??) Degree in history, world traveller, live abroad, teach. And common sense guy, even if I don't always display it here, in these pages.

You can be sure BHO has a team gauging public opinion. He's internet savvy. He may use his own judgement, but he wants to know what we're saying too.

I have never been comforted by our federal government. I am 29 years old and voted for the president elect (The first time I've voted for a winner of the presidency in my life) on the 4th. I am an independent, and became very interested in Obama as an alternative to Hillary Clinton late 2007. There was no reasonable candidate running on the republican side, and I felt this year was FAR too important to vote 3rd party. I wished there was a viable third party, and still do. I had no particular animosity for Senator Clinton until the last 3 weeks or so of the primary when she reached into the Rove bag o' tricks. I feel she will make an exceptional SOS, regardless of my feelings towards the Clinton administration (which are actually pretty favorable minus NAFTA, Rwanda, and the Pacific Rim IMF debacle).

Every decision our new commander in chief made during the campaign has turned out to be (in the face of MASSIVE scrutiny) the correct one. Everyone was concerned about Wright. Joe Biden. Measured response to the economic crisis. Agreeing with McCain at all during the debates, as well as the cool persona. Guess who had it right at every step of that circus?

It seems I will have a president who will be able to calmly explain the problems, and his intended solutions without resorting to fear or talking points (at least mono-syllabic talking points!) for the next four years.

Color me comforted!
