Hey, Bay Area C&Lers! We're in town this week ...

John and I have been doing our best to get out and promote Over the Cliff: How Obama's Election Drove the American Right Insane, but most of our appearances have been at progressive gatherings like America's Future Now and Netroots Nation. This week, we break out into the real world with a couple of events in the Bay Area.
Tonight, we'll be at Books Inc. in Berkeley at 7 p.m., giving a talk/reading and signing books.
Then, on Friday, we'll be at the Contra Costa United Democratic Campaign headquarters in Concord, also at 7 p.m. It's located at 2737 Clayton Road, Concord.
If you can come out and meet us, please do. Otherwise, we'll also be on the radio: This morning we have an interview on KVON Radio, 1440 AM, in Napa at 7:30 a.m. Then, on Friday morning, we'll be taping an interview with Philip Maldari and Aimee Allison at KPFA-FM in Berkeley, with airdate to be announced.
Hope any of you in the area can come out and catch us.

Are you guys going to visit any other states......like Florida?
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Well, clearly NOT Arizona. . .
:)

I'm sure Book People in Austin, TX would be happy to have one or both of you come to promote your book. You've got lots of fans here who would turn out for the event.
Also, years ago, when "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" came out, Al Franken did a book signing at the Barnes and Noble Arboretum store. Attendance there was great (although my preference would be for Book People because its an independent book seller and isn't in a mall for the wealthy).
I wish I could be there.

I live in Napa (not my hometown but I have been here 6 years) so it was quite funny to see our little radio station mentioned. Strange in fact.
Have you guys already had an LA-area appearance?

I think it's in August.
Drinking Liberally in Santa Monica is one. Possibly NY and DC and others as they come up..Resources are limited as you might expect. We may have a fun contest on what city would like us to come. That was a Howie suggestion.
We'll do our best to get you here (Austin) if you do decide to have a contest.
...I hope KPFA puts the interview on in a timely manner, rather than hoarding it for their seemingly endless fundraising camapigns.
This weekend I am going in search of this book and Carl Hiassen's new book, "Star Island". It's too hot to do anything but read.

One of the things I admired about Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins, is that when they wrote their recent books about God and atheism, they didn't follow the safe route and visit only "blue states". I saw one of them being interviewed, and he said he told his publisher to arrange his tour to include the South.
If that's not in your budget or you don't have time, then fine.
But if you only visit "safe" areas -- if you avoid Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee -- then you're being chicken. (And Austin, Texas doesn't count as the South, politically)
Cheers,
about us here in Austin, but we'd still like the opportunity to host John. He can easily travel to Dallas, Houston and San Antonio from here. ;)
I'd love to go even with their history...Who would host us in the barbecue state?
Let me see what I can do. Since you're talking barbecue in particular, I might not be the best person for hosting (long time vegetarian, since 1978), but I'm sure there are some Austin area C&Lers who are avid carnivores. You've probably heard of the legendary Salt Lick barbecue. That's where I'd suggest (and I'd come along for the conversation ;).
Come on down to Santa Cruz (78 miles south, cozy beach town) and I'll buy you lunch. I'm a big fan and it would be great to meet you, got lots of pertinent ideas also.
Don't worry because outside of my blogging ego, I'm just a simple friendly person and it would be fun.
Awww. I miss Berkeley. Transplant to Nashville about six years ago.
Hope you make it down here. Or have you done so and I missed it?
Powell's City of Books in Portland, OR ... please come visit!!!!
We have to get Powell's to invite us. So far, they haven't responded to our queries.
Have you contacted Book People in Austin? If not, please do. If they're hesitant, I'd be willing to get a lobbying campaign going here so they'll know it's worth their while.
I love the book! My favorite thing is that you don't need to resort to Beck-style hysterics, Hannity-style bullying, Palin-style paranoia, or Limbaugh-style demagoguing. You just lay out the facts without prejudice or passion, and you let the evidence speak for itself. (One could say that, "You report, the readers decide" -- but I think someone already owns that slogan, albeit in an ironic and comical fashion.) Also, my 8-year-old was fascinated with the cover: "Who is that mean, ugly lady at the bottom, and why is that one man having a temper tantrum?"
