Bill O'Reilly cooked up another way to attack President Obama this week -- by suggesting that he was associating with racial radicals again, namely, the National Council of La Raza:
O'REILLY: But the president spoke to La Raza this week. La Raza, a pretty radicalized group. I think they're further left than you are. I mean, they don't like any kind of border security, they want amnesty for all the people here. They object to almost every kind of measure to control illegal immigration. And yet the president feels comfortable there. Do you think he's just posturing?
This is why O'Reilly enjoys about as much credibility among Latino viewers as Lou Dobbs -- which is to say, nearly zero. Because everyone who knows their way around the immigration scene is perfectly aware that NCLR is a very temperate, middle-of-the-road organization -- and in fact is frequently criticized by other Latino groups for being too safe and cautious, and for being corporate sellouts. (Your mileage may vary.)
Indeed, all O'Reilly and his crack staff would have had to do is visit NCLR's website to read this:

There are a whole bunch of falsehoods about NCLR -- beginning with their name -- that endure as right-wing myths. I bet O'Reilly has pretty much swallowed those whole, too.

If you're shallow or simple enough to only look at dictionary definitions of individual words, then perhaps you would consider La Raza to be racist, based on your simple substitution of "white" for "Latino". However, if you are able and willing to look at the motivations, history, and reality of the situation, you will understand how an organization that is trying to help a group of people who on the whole have not received their fair share differs from an organization that promotes racial purity and ethnic cleansing. I suspect that in your case you are able to understand the difference, but choose to fit your interpretation to your preconceived opinion of the organization.
Also consider the fact that you are not a native speaker of a Hispanic language, since you needed to look up the meaning of "Raza", and translating words into a different language does not always perfectly translate the meaning. There may be a more subtle emotion behind the word that only a native speaker would catch (I only speak English, so I am merely speculating). Perhaps it's more like "brotherhood". But let's be honest - if you looked up the word "Raza" and the dictionary defined it as "brotherhood", would that change your opinion of La Raza?
the idiomatic meaning behind the word, but if you will be literal, like your monoglot brethren, you will continue to be wrong, with the added bonus of looking stupid and intolerant, as is your wont.
So no. For a literal translation, you do not need a dictionary. For the real translation, you need an understanding of idiomatic phraseology of the particular language you think you are translating.

They started the first dog whistles about La Raza a few years back. Lest we start trusting John McCain again, don't forget he was in on this crap too. Then they tried to float this same "fair and balanced" viewpoint again about a year ago, but it was too soon after the Breitbart-ing of the non-ACORN scandal and the fake Shirley Sherrod debacle and most people saw through it for what it was.
But people's memory's are short and all they seem to hear is soundbites and short phrases so how about this:
Let's just cut to the chase and know that whatever Republicans have to say about La Raza is blatant lies and fearmongering.
I'm of the opinion that this is all about O'Reilly trying to get Beck's viewers now that he has left FOX. Some people will refuse to jump to another station or go to another format even if their favorite talking head has jumped ship. That's what's behind all of this.
