Republicans: Sore losers, man

Some Republicans are in a really severe state of denial about the ass-kicking they just received Great Repudiation. To wit, Colorado's Marilyn Musgrave:
Bitterness generated by the bruising battle between Betsy Markey and Marilyn Musgrave apparently lingers days after voters decided the winner of the 4th Congressional District.
Incumbent Republican Musgrave, who lost to Democrat Markey by a 56 to 44 percent margin Tuesday, has yet to call and congratulate Markey on her win.
Musgrave also hasn't conceded the race, said Markey spokesman Ben Marter. "She has yet to admit defeat," he said. "It's a little bizarre."
Calls to Musgrave's campaign and congressional office went unanswered Friday.
Ah yes, we remember Musgrave well: She was one of the co-sponsors of a Federal Marriage Amendment, and once declared that gay marriage "is the most important issue that we face today."
Musgrave's residence on Planet Bizarro appears to be permanent.

I live in a red district in a Chicago suburb and I was very surprised to see how many repugs were kicked out and new Democrats were voted in. The DuPage County board has always been all Republican but this time 3 Democrats were voted in. The repugs are still in shock.
how do you reach these people? it's like they have to be deprogrammed from a cult.

I am absolutely loving every second of the Repukes pain. Watching them fight amongst each other is lovely....like seeing two whores fight over street corner territory.

What about all those republicans who retired this go round because being in congress is no fun if your party is not in the majority? Now THOSE are sore losers. Though I'm very happy to see them go.
They saw the handwriting on the wall so decided to leave the sinking ship like rats.
I guess Musgrave was absent that day in Kindergarten when the lesson was about how not to be a sore loser...
There is no reason a candidate has to "concede" anymore than a sports team has to concede. When the vote is tallied they either win or lose. The only time it would matter is if there is a potential recount or something similar; and, in the case that the "calls" are incorrect (e.g., Gore's in 2000) the concession is harmful to the election process. The concession is a script the media has devised to provide "closure" to its election coverage. It is a custom that would be much more honored in the breach.
But it's good that Musgrave is Mustgone!
As to her not calling to "congratulate" the loser, why expect that? In a hard fought contest that gets personal and where the contestants are participating because they believe they're right, it's ridiculous to expect them to kiss and make up afterwards. We don't need any more hypocritical, fake congratulations. Now if the loser runs around bad-mouthing the winner, obstructing any transition, etc., that's bad.
Both of these rituals are a part of the same mentality that goes along with the election being a horse race or some other sort of game.
Its a question of personal self-respect. And future public image.
Besides, Mustgo doesn't have a public future (unless maybe Palin needs a running mate?).
Of course form matters over substance. And in America the 'form' of being a good winner matters.
Has anyone told her that "I reject your reality and replace it with my own." is just an amusing catch phrase from a tv show?
It's not applicable in practice.
I imagine her in a room in the dark with her eyes closed, fingers in her ears and humming a tune loudly so as not to be accidentally confronted by any facts. LOL!
And besides...it's more funnier'n hell!

If you manage to steal this election too we've decided we're leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we're taking the other Blue States with us. In case you aren't aware, that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California.
To sum up briefly:
You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.
We get stem cell research and the best beaches.
We get the Statue of Liberty.
You get Dollywood.
We get Intel and Microsoft.
You get WorldCom.
We get Harvard.
You get Ole' Miss.
We get 85% of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs.
You get Alabama.
We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share.
Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22% lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families.
You get a bunch of single moms.
Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq , and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we're not willing to spend our resources in Bush's Quagmire.
With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80% of the country's fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines, 90% of all cheese, 90% of the high tech industry, 95% of the corn and soybeans (thanks Iowa!), most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.
With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92% of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.
We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.
Additionally, 38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory, 53% believe that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.
Finally, we're taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico

Unfortunately, when it comes to issues of gay rights and marriage equality too many of the Blue States look a whole hell of a lot like the Red States.
You get Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Arkansas where gay couples are CONSTITUTIONALLY denied marriage equality.
We get California, Oregon, Wisconsin and Michigan where, well, uh, gay couples are CONSTITUTIONALLY denied marriage equality.
We've still got a long way to go before Blue States in America fully live up to the ideals of our Constitution.

Even Faux News toady Brit Hume is explaining away the GOP's crushing defeat by saying that the country will never embrace liberal/progressive policies. They're acting as if this was a nail-biter of an election instead of the sweeping repudiation and rejection that it was.

I live in Marilyn Musgrave's district, and we are extremely happy to have elected Betsey Markey. Marilyn ran one of the most disgusting campaign's imaginable. It doesn't surprise me one bit that Musgrave never called her opponent to concede gracefully. Musgrave is a disgusting human being.
She'll be fine. I'm sure that Colorado's Focus on the Family will have a lobbying job for her. *Sigh*
