Conservative rocker Ted Nugent on Tuesday defended his violent remarks against Democrats and President Barack Obama that have gotten the attention of the Secret Service and prompted the Democratic National Committee (DNC) chairwoman to call on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney speak out.
"This is the Saul Alinsky 'Rules for Radicals' playbook," Nugent told conservative radio host Dana Loesch. "You see, I'm a black Jew at a Nazi-Klan rally and there are some power-abusing, corrupt monsters in our federal government because I have the audacity to speak the truth, to identify the violations of our government, particularly [Attorney General] Eric Holder and the president and [Treasury Secretary] Tim Geithner, ad nauseum."
"And I spoke at the NRA and I will stand by my speech," he added. "It was 100 percent positive. It was about 'We the People' taking back our American dream from the corrupt monsters in the federal government under this administration with the communist czars he's appointed. And if anybody has a problem with that, call 1-800-NUMBNUT and Michael Moore will try to explain it to you as he searches for soap."
Over the weekend, Nugent told a crowd at the National Rifle Association (NRA) convention that their goal “should be to get a couple of thousand people per person who’s here to vote for Mitt Romney in November.”
“If you don’t know that our government is wiping its ass with the Constitution, you’re living under a rock some place. And that there’s a dead soldier, an airman, a Marine, a seaman, a hero of the military that just got his legs blown off for the U.S. Constitution, and we got a president and an attorney general who doesn’t even like the Constitution,” he said, adding that the four left-leaning Supreme Court justices were “like a stoned hippy” because they “don’t believe in the Constitution.”
“And if you want more of those kinds of evil, anti-American people in the Supreme Court then don’t get involved and let Obama take office again. Because I’ll tell you this right now, if Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.”
Nugent continued by urging attendees to get everyone they knew to vote for Romney and against “this vile, evil, America-hating administration” or “we’ll be a suburb of Indonesia next year.”
“We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November!” he exclaimed. “Any questions?”
The rocker went on to compare Obama and the Democrats to a coyote that's "in your living room pissing on your couch."
"It’s not the coyote’s fault," he said. "It’s your fault for not shooting him."
DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Monday called on Romney to disavow Nugent because his remarks were "despicable, deplorable and completely beyond the pale."
She continued: “Yet what have we heard from Mitt Romney and the Republican Party, who should be outraged that someone representing them is using language like this to make a political point? Absolutely nothing.”
“Mitt Romney must condemn Nugent’s violent and hateful rhetoric immediately, as it has no place in our political discourse or this campaign.”
During her interview with Nugent on Monday, Loesch accused Democrats of making him into a "scapegoat" and "trying to suggest that you said something you did not say."
"Absolutely," Nugent agreed. "I've never in my life threatened anyone's life. I am incapable of threatening anyone's life because I'm about positive change. ... And anyone that disagrees with me disagrees with that. And Wasserman Schultz is such a brain dead, soulless, heartless idiot that I could not be more proud that this soulless, heartless idiot feebly attempts to find fault with Ted Nugent because I am on the right track and she just encourages me to stand stronger."
"You know, I hunt varmints -- we have varmints killing the fawn and killing the livestock here in Texas -- varmints are sometimes clever, but they're really easy to outmaneuver," he explained. "The job of 'We the People' is to spotlight cockroaches and come November, we're going to stomp them at the voting both."
As for reports that the Secret Service was looking into his comments, Nugent said he wasn't worried.
"The Secret Service are my buddies, OK?" he told Loesch. "They work for me. I pay their salaries and I mean that seriously. But also, you know, I train with the Secret Service. I conduct federal marshal raids here in Texas. So, I rely on these heroes of the federal agencies to save my life. ... So when you say Secret Service, all I can do is get a big grin on my face and realize we'll either be shooting some taxpayer ammo at targets or we'll be eating barbecue."
Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul on Tuesday responded to Nugent's remarks, saying that "Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil."
"Divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from," she noted.
In March, Nugent announced on Twitter that he had endorsed the former Massachusetts governor.
“[A]fter a long heart&soul conversation with MittRomney today I concluded this goodman will properly represent we the people & I endorsed him,” Nugent wrote.
Romney’s son, Tagg Romney, quickly praised the rocker.
“Ted Nugent endorsed my Dad today,” the younger Romney tweeted. “Ted Nugent? How cool is that?! He joins Kid Rock as great Detroit musicians on team Mitt!”
According to Right Wing Watch, Romney actively sought Nugent’s endorsement.
"It's been fun getting to know Ted Nugent," Romney told radio host Mark Reardon in March.
