The video above, and that follow below were taken Saturday, Dec. 17th after Occupy Wall Street was stopped from occupying the vacant lot next to Duarte Square in SoHo, and began to march towards Times Square.
Plenty of beating people with steel batons, shoving people face first into concrete or asphalt, depending on where they happen to land. One young man who is on the ground being arrested is asked his name and age by an observer, and he just happens to be 23-years old. A new study released today just happens to tell us that an astounding 30.2 percent of youth are arrested by the time they are 23. That occupier is right on schedule. I have a feeling that percentage will be even higher next year.
An interesting mix in this video of some officer's overreaction and others trying to de-escalate the situation, along with violently throwing protesters to the ground and arresting them for no apparent reason. I wonder if the NYPD would treat the Phelps clan this way, or if they would respect their freedom of speech?
More violent arrests and shoving:
Now some kettling occupiers for peacefully assembling on a public sidewalk behind nets, only to withdraw:
I'm still looking for any information about arrest totals near Times Square from December 17th, as well as any reports of any injuries during the altercations with police. Will update you if anything becomes available.
