The police have arrested 55 Occupy movement protesters for "illegally camping" outside the Federal Reserve building in the city of San Francisco.

“It is difficult to believe the city's assertions that these raids are justified,” Occupy San Francisco wrote on its website, adding that they believe members of the movement are victims of “blatant political repression.”

In recent days, in response to crackdowns across the country, Occupy protesters have begun more forcefully expressing their stance that it is their constitutional right to gather and discuss the country's economic issues without police interference.

On Wednesday, the San Francisco police arrested 70 Occupy protesters in an encampment near the city's Justin Herman Plaza.
