Guadalcanal Diary - Part of that initial Athens Georgia wave of talent.

Finishing up 80's week with a listen to one of the earlier examples of the Marietta/Athens Georgia Sound. Guadalcanal Diary had been around since 1981 and were initially known as The Emergency Broadcast System. They were part of that wave of ecclectic, Indie bands that included the likes of REM.

Tonight's track is off their third album, "2X4". Litany (Life Goes On) starts the album off on an upbeat optimistic note - sort of a mirror reflection to the feelings surrounding today with the tsunami of Protests going on all over the world.

Guadalcanal did break up after 1989, but have since regrouped and were playing at some local festivals.

From all reports, they appear to have lost none of their chops.

Lucky us.
