Maurice Gendron - in that rarefied class of cellists.

Another disc from the ORTF this week. This time it features legendary cellist Maurice Gendron playing the Fantasia for cello and Orchestra by Jean Francaix (listed as the Fantasie on the transcription sheets) with the French Radio Symphony conducted by equally legendary Eugene Bigot in a recording made presumably at a live concert around 1949.

I would venture to guess this particular recording hasn't been reissued in any form. And judging from the way things are going, not likely any time soon.

Enjoy it while you can.
