Charlie Brown (CA-04) Needs Help With Tight Race

charlie-1_ac211.jpg

Charlie Brown has been one of Blue America's priority candidates for Congress for over 3 years now. We first got behind him when he was running an impossible race in one of California's most Republican districts-- the PVI is an astounding R+11-- against crooked right-wing extremist John Doolittle. In 2006 Charlie drew 97,217 votes (vs 104,746) and held Doolittle to under 50%. Doolittle and his wife have been indicted on corruption charges and he decided not to run again and the California GOP got behind an even more extreme right-wing fringe candidate, Tom McClintock, a carpetbagger from L.A.

Today, with around 50,000 votes left to count, this is a 50/50 race, the Secretary of State's website showing that just 889 votes separate Charlie and McClintock. If all votes get counted, Charlie will win. McClintock and his lawyers will do all they can to prevent that from happening. In a letter to supporters yesterday, McClintock admitted that when the bulk of votes from Nevada County show up on the board this week, he will have a deficit.

McClintock's legal team will challenge every vote for Charlie and these battles are costly. Blue America is working on the DCCC to help and we hope to make an announcement about that in a few days. Meanwhile we want to urge anyone who still has anything they can spare to chip in to Charlie Brown's campaign fund. Even $5 and $10 donations help and you can do it right here at the Crooks & Liars Blue America page. This isn't a race about just "more Democrats;" this is a race about a BETTER Democrat, a much better Democrat.

Why isn't HE inspired to assist the aspiring Congress Critter from CA-04?

Just askin...

oh, first

Ok, I'm sorry for being juvenile...but Charlie Brown vs. Doolittle?

Does anyone else find this entertaining?

Good grief! :S

I do ...

I guess Snoopy will be his PR

is a fringe candidate...he is one of the more moderate republicans in the state, but because he spearheaded the recall election of gray davis and was also instrumental in the inacting of term limits, which has done more damage in the state house than did the old system

everybody always pickin' on me?

)O(

Dear Democrats,
The Democratic Party needs a streamlined web-based donation system. We have all enjoyed watching Barack Obama's grassroots rise to success. This achievement was based largely on small donations by lots of people, many of whom were utilizing the internet.

The Party needs an interface like that of Google-Checkout. That system allows folks to only have to enter their billing information ONCE. Imagine if people only had to click a mouse a few times to donate instead of having to enter their credit card, billing, address, and occupation information EVERY time they donate.
Their info could be stored with the Democratic Party at large, which could then manage the transfer to specific campaigns. OR, their info could even be stored with Google itself. Google would be happy to have that much more marketable information on users. This could potentially make auditing easier as well since donor information would be consolidated.

The Party also needs a map on the homepage that shows which candidates and where need donations. The map would update constantly and allow users to click only a few times with the mouse to make many donations where they are needed most.

A few mouse clicks is a lot more effective at getting donations than having to type in information every time a person donates. People would more readily donate $5 if all they had to do was spend 15 seconds clicking.

Imagine how much we could be raising for Charlie Brown if each person who donated to Obama only had to click a few times to give $5 to Brown...

Excellent idea! I hope you develop this idea as far as you can and promote it widely.

For now, I'd add my question to Woody's -- has Blue America asked the Obama campaign to help this candidate? Are there laws that preclude their transferring money to another campaign? Howie, can you address this, please?

Thanks!

but the dccc and the dnc can send their lawyers under their payroll...i think they are sending people to minnesota and alaska

Better make sure their packin' if they are goin' to laskuhr'.

Oh good grief.

Did he get it caught in the kite eating tree again?

I've had the distinct pleasure of meeting both Lt. Col. Brown and Mr. McClintock.

I don't feel the need to get into specifics, because well, I'm not a repub.

When I met Col Brown I got that feeling of trust (could be an aviator thing) and awe.

Not so much with McClintock.

CA-04 McClintock's Alaskan Connection

.

Just two people made donations to the Alaskan Republican Party in February of 2006.

One of them was McClintock, the CA State Senator, the Republican with the Southern California address who is trying to carpetbag his way into Northern California's district 4 Congressional seat, running against Charlie Brown (D, Roseville) to replace the Abramoff scandal encrusted John Doolittle (R, Chevron, Not yet indicted ) Doolittle just lost an ex staffer to the Feds last week when Kevin Ring was arrested.

The other person who donated to the Alaskan Republican Party in February of 2006 was...... drumroll please..... the lobbyist for the City of Wasilla. Named Bickford. And a lobbyist for an engineering company that contracts with Amoco and Shell Oil.

Okay, we see that the Alaskan Republican Party was not exactly rolling in the donations during that reporting period in February 2006. But who got money from them? They did make 2 big payments, or disbursements.

Curiously, both were to the same Minnesota address, without any name of any organization given.

570 Asbury St 201
St Paul Minnesota 55104 FOR "GENERIC PARTY FUNDRAISING" 3/21/2006 $4372.80 and on 3/28/2006 $ 4036.80

Why is the Alaska Republican Party sending over $8000 to the address in Minnesota in the spring of 2006 ? "Generic Party Fundraising?" What's at this address ?

http://www.sourcewatch.org/...

"570 Asbury Street, 201, St Paul MN 55104" = FLS= the address of Tony Feather, political director of Bush's 2000 campaign, and Tom Synhorst of Progress for America DCI Group, which ran the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth against John Kerry.

According to source watch.org, Feather Larson and Synhorst DCI are "Specialists in Telephone Contact Business." They were one of the largest recievers of funds from the Republican National Commitee in 2004. They were praised by Karl Rove. They have Minnesota and Arizona offices.

The Minnesota Democratic DFL Party says
" WHAT (Senator) NORM COLEMAN DOESN'T WANT YOU TO KNOW "
http://www.dfl.org/...

{{{ St. Paul, MN (June 4, 2008) Today at the State Capitol, Minnesota DFL Chair Brian Melendez held a press conference to address new details about Norm Coleman’s relationship with the DCI Group and the group’s disgraceful actions in previous elections.

Among those revelations are that the Coleman campaign rented office space with FLS–DCI (Feather, Larson, and Synhorst DCI, a lobbying and consulting firm mentioned above ) and that the same FLS–DCI and DCI Group operatives that serve as the core of Coleman’s political operation were behind several shadowy GOP “soft-money” efforts, including the infamous Swift Boat ads and attacks waged on Paul Wellstone in 2002.

Meanwhile, Coleman’s Campaign Shared Address with FLS-DCI:

(Senator) Coleman's Campaign Shared Two St. Paul Addresses With FLS-DCI.

Republican Senator Norm Coleman sure gets around a lot. Coleman used printed documents sent by mail to the FEC instead of electronic filings in 2006 , which means easily searching his database of hundreds of pages of payment disbursements is akin to mushing huskies from Anchorage to Nome during a whiteout.

Now, if the Republican Party of Alaska is using the swiftboat group, via Senator Norm Coleman's "rent" money, and the state of Alaska gets its revenues from oil, and therefore the Republican Party of Alaska gets oil money at least indirectly from people's salaries or dividends, can one connect the dots and connect Big Oil with Swiftboating?

And what about Tom?

SO TOM MCCLINTOCK WAS GIVING MONEY TO THE SAME GROUP GIVING TO TELEMARKETERS FOR SWIFTBOAT VETERANS FOR TRUTH GROUP IN EARLY 2006. IN THAT YEAR, MCCLINTOCK, A STATE SENATOR WHO WAS ELECTED TO THAT POST IN 2004, WAS ALSO TRYING TO JUMP UP TO THE NEXT LEVEL, BY RUNNING FOR THE OFFICE OF LT. GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CA, BUT HE LOST TO DEMOCRAT JOHN GARAMENDI.

Always the fiscal tightwad looking ahead for the next contest, McClintock's treasurer sent a letter to the State of CA in May of 2005, asking if he could transfer money from the state Senate Account to the Lt Governor's campaign account, but if he had leftover money, and lost, could he then transfer it back into the State Senate account again. The answer, mercifully, was no. But McClintock was already looking beyond the state campaigns in early 2006. That's one heck of a coincidence he was only one of two donations and the other one was with the lobbyist for the town of Wasilla, Alaska, and the same Committee was then disbursing to the Swift Boat telemarketers.
